Phish Reunite, Plan Virginia Concerts For March 2009

10/1/08, 9:42 am EST

Photo Gallery: Phish Through the Years

It’s official: After recently reuniting to perform at a friend’s wedding, Phish will make their return to a larger stage next year when they invade the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia for a trio of shows on March 6-8th, 2009. The concerts will be the band’s first public show since calling it quits four years ago. The announcement was made in a video posted last night on Phish’s official Website depicting an artist painting the iconic, multi-colored Hampton Coliseum, the scene of the Phish live album Hampton Comes Alive. Recently, both guitarist Trey Anastasio and bassist Mike Gordon told Rolling Stone that they hoped the band would reunite in the near future. The band also revealed additional shows for 2009 are planned, but no specifics have been announced yet. Fans can go to the Phish site now to enter into a drawing for Hampton tickets now, while Ticketmaster will begin selling tickets on October 18th.

I can’t wait to see phish for the first time ever!!! I prayed the day would finally come…and at Alpine Valley! What else could a kid ever ask for. Can’t fucking wait…

Hot Rat | 12/17/2008, 2:36 pm EST

Man, I’m so psyched for this! I hope they have someone awesome, like Staind, Nickleback, or Hoobastank opening for them. And then cover a bunch of Puddle of Mudd and Linkin Park songs.

Gordo | 11/19/2008, 10:12 pm EST

Whatever you do, don’t buy Phish tickets from 1stseasonticket on eBay. He’s a scam artist, routinely buying up large lots of tickets and jacking up prices by 300%

yahoooooo | 10/20/2008, 10:27 pm EST

the boys are back in town…the boys are back, followed by long time…THAT my friends, is the opener! I nearly wet myself reading this!

ticket scam | 10/18/2008, 1:28 pm EST

since i couldn’t get tickets through the lottery or ticketbastard, looks like i won’t be attending these shows.

i’m sure that the scalpers are happy knowing they are selling a $50 ticket for $300 to $1000 dollars. I hope their greed pays off for them. It sure is keeping lots of real phishheads shut out from these shows.

if you buy tickets from the scalpers you not only are really stupid, but you continue to prolong this process of scalpers grabbing every available ticket and selling them for absurdly high ticket prices. I refuse to pay that much for any concert…even by the best band in the world.

I’ve seen Phish at Hampton countless times and all during the 90’s. Hopefully Phish will have it together like they did during those sweet, sweet shows in ‘96 and ‘98. Those were some of the times of my life… How the hell are we gonna fit 60,000 phishheads in a coleseum that only holds 13,000?? Oh yea, and stop mentioning string cheese, save your breath or go hoola hoop or something…

There’s Phish lovers and Phish haters. If you’re a hater don’t waste your time here. And for you’re info, Phish have plans to record NEW music and record an album with Steve Lilywhite (Billy Breathes) So the rest of you haters can go listen to p!nk and t-pain. I’m gonna go see PHISH LIVE!

Oh my sweet jesus | 10/5/2008, 3:00 pm EST

You would “seriously put money on it”? Got to Vegas, check the line, and then jump off of the top of the Luxor pyramid. Drag a couple of Phishheads with you.

Dave | 10/5/2008, 1:43 pm EST

Sorry, but we all know, for real, the opening song will be “Curtain, with” They closed their last show with a curtain coming down, now it’s time to raise it again. Seriously, I would put money on it.

I got my photo album as part of my Coventry refund. Maybe the letter I had sent on my attorney letterhead had something to do with the decision to send out the album in the first place. You’re welcome.

SwirvinIt | 10/3/2008, 9:57 am EST

No doubt about it, Run Like an Atelope opener…. or maybe Toture. As long as there’s no Velvet Sea Encore.

phishvids | 10/2/2008, 2:26 pm EST

PosterNutBalls…you have no idea chump. I and the 12 people I went with to Coventry all mail ordered and we never got any photo albums. In fact of all the Phish fans I know, nobody got one. I don’t expect them to control the weather but simple creative solutions like having hay to spread on the mud so people can get to the concert and handicap people have a chance to participate are EXPECTED. I have been to all of Phish’s festivals (on my birthday most times) and there was a time when they were setting the standard for fan experience. They to top it off Trey forgot how to play the guitar and they started crying. Stick the facts. I’ll stick to my nugs.

phishvids | 10/2/2008, 2:16 pm EST

Hey Poster you have no idea. I and about 12 other people I went to Coventry with mail ordered and nobody I know got any photo albums. I never said a band can control the weather but they could have had hay to mop up the mud or any NUMBER of creative solutions to the basic problems of an outdoor festival. I was at all the festivals and there was a time when Phish set the standard for fan experience at these things. Coventry was a huge cluster and then Trey forgot how to play guitar. And cried….

Anonymous | 10/2/2008, 1:34 pm EST

Miner –> Coldplay??? Are you kidding me?? How they ever got a record contract is more of a farce then Phish being a “great” band…

Mr Miner | 10/2/2008, 11:05 am EST

Wedding band?!! Get outta here, Zee. You’re killing the vibe, man. Go back to your Coldplay album.

zee | 10/2/2008, 8:57 am EST

zzzzzzzzzzz… never understood the fascination with this band… saw them several times, just to try to “get it”… recently they proved what they really are “a wedding band”

riverken | 10/2/2008, 4:04 am EST

I haven’t been this excited about a show since I don’t know when.I feel alive again. Hands down the best arena/festival size shows I’ve ever witnessed have been from Phish. I didn’t know I could still bounce around a room til today! Fingers crossed I get my requested tickets. Who knows, maybe there will be a good reason to go to Bonnaroo this year!

We no longer have to say… “it’s just a matter of time”. The time is now. Got my phishin’ pole ready!!!

Poster Nut-Bag | 10/1/2008, 9:44 pm EST

To the schwag nerd that asked for a hand out for Coventry:

Are you seriously asking Phish to give you more? Unfortunately, sir, the band is not capable of controlling the weather. A sincere apology was issued as well as an autographed photo album by Danny Clinch given to all of the fans that mail-ordered. That is more than any other band would ever do. Do you think they wanted to go out like that? You are the type of person that gives the true fan a bad name, with your camera phone in one hand and some schwag in the other…

Leo | 10/1/2008, 8:59 pm EST

I’m tied to them,
Or them to me.
Depending who you ask….

post-a-comment | 10/1/2008, 8:52 pm EST

I can’t believe it. I had a kinda-suppressed little half-gurlged titter and then jumped around excitedly when I heard. Free opener, anyone? Also, I’m glad that this doesn’t have the feeling of a nostalgia tour. You can tell they’re going to be doing great new things.

Banjo Kazzooie | 10/1/2008, 8:32 pm EST

Never got to see em the first time around… you can bet I will this time. Maybe a show at the Roo next year?

My boys! I cant wait for it. Thank God I am seeing Trey at Roseland. I got Reba as the opener!

phishvids | 10/1/2008, 8:01 pm EST

Am I the only one who thinks that Phish owes the fans that endured the travesty known as Coventry?? How about giving us some preference on tickets for the tour or soemething. You know there was a river of mud to wade through to get to the stage area and you all CRIED on stage and played horribly. I can’t listen to it to this day!!

tom the douche | 10/1/2008, 7:37 pm EST

hey tom…is your name really negative nancy? or is it debbie downer? Don’t be hating on people because they actually enjoy good music. I love the grateful dead and i love phish, but you dont see me dissing either band. If you think Phish is just a knockoff of the GD then you are sorely mistaken my non-friend. Get a clue…get a life…
