A number of online message boards have been bombarded by fans who think the group kept sound levels so high that the quality was compromised. Though the band and management stand by Death Magnetic, that hasn’t stopped fans from signing petitions and sharing the less-loud mixes made available for Guitar Hero. When are all you digitally brainwashed fans going to realize, vinyl is better, always will be better, and that CD’s are NOT the best sound…..an analog record is!
Oh Yeah as metal fans all know “if it’s too loud you’re too old!”

There are still some people here that don’t understand: It’s not the music that’s bad, nor the stereo you play it on. The problem is digital clipping on the CD, and if you don’t know what that is, look it up.. If I pay for a CD I expect the best sound quality possible, and if I want it loud, I’ll turn up the volume of my stereo myself!

I am a poor emigrant to US from, Africa, I listen Metallica many years ago. My village was getting bombed and I was listening ONE, but Master of Puppets is the biggist MTLL album. It is the most wonderful band ever after Bob Marley. But what do u guys know about old Metallica stuff anyws? U r just kids.

Sound are build up by lots of harmonic sine-waves. a clipping due to a maxed amplitude will add unwanted high-frequency noise. Maybe this is the intention, I do not know, it is not natural. Metallica is too much noise as it is.

if you open one of the cda files off the CD in a waveform editor you can see the flat-tops. It’s pure amplitude distortion ROOKIE MASTERING ERROR. It’s unlistenable.

metal thrashing mad | 10/5/2008, 5:02 am EST

I just bought the 5 album version. It has a song per side and is 45rpm. It sounds so much better than the cd. No distortion at all.

Invisible Kid and Elvis knows best…

You guys don’t get it. Read up on the subject. It’s not about volume, it’s about loudness.

Idiots.

Disgruntled | 10/3/2008, 10:25 pm EST

It is horrible. The problem is you can’t turn it up loud! It was recorded so loud it distorts badly and will actually hurt your ears if you try to turn it up to the volume a Metallica album should be played at.

Elvis knows best... | 10/3/2008, 7:56 am EST

Take it from a dead guy, if it is too loud, YOU ARE TO OLD! Shut-up and rock! Ever heard of turning it down, so it doesn’t hurt your frail flower crotchety old man ears?

Axl Rose | 10/3/2008, 6:00 am EST

I like the album very much. Good work guys. Good lyrics and sound. Buy a better stereo I would say.

november 25th it’s my turn.

Invisible Kid | 10/3/2008, 3:08 am EST

I think it sounds perfect. The album is awesome. If you think its too loud, hey, TURN IT DOWN a bit (not in my vocabulary for Metallica). Quit whining and suck it up and move on. If you can’t take it, don’t listen to it (thanx for buying anyway though). Oh, and make sure if your gonna dis a band and/or the fans….at least get the name right…idiot.

stupid matallica fans | 10/2/2008, 8:33 am EST

these dorks actually bought a matallica album,,,,,then complain,,,,,um, sorry if we dont feel bad for you,,,,,you listen to matallica

Seriously. When the kick drum is clipping, then you have sound issues. I wonder if the mixes went to mastering that loud or if the mastering engineer tried to get too much gain (especially out of the 7K-12K range), because most of the high end is clipping out.
