Robert Plant Denies Led Zeppelin Rumors, Says He Won’t Tour Again “For At Least The Next Two Years”

Robert Plant has finally responded to all the rumors circulating about Led Zeppelin finally launching a full-blown reunion next year. Unfortunately, it’s not the response Led Zeppelin fans were hoping for. “Robert has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years,” a statement on Plant’s official website reads. “Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin. Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets.” U.K.-based rumors spread on the internet last week that Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham were threatening to recruit another vocalist, which reportedly prompted Plant to rejoin the band for a tour next summer which would have included sets at Bonnaroo and Coachella. It was all fiction. “It’s both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward,” Plant said. “I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects.” Plant is currently on tour with Alison Krauss to promote their album Raising Sand

I’d just like to cast my vote for Terry Reid. Better singer, plays guitar too, and it would be something more than a Led Zep tribute.

Leif | 10/31/2008, 2:13 pm EST

Led Zeppelin playing live, all 4 of them, would be equally as amazing as sitting down with Tolkien and discussing Middle Earth. The music will not be the same without Plant’s vocals, the legend dies when prime members are absent. I wish something could be arranged…The Krauss/Plant duo is nothing to be remembered, nothing legendary, nothing as EPIC as Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant, where have you gone?!

Terry M | 10/29/2008, 1:31 pm EST

Robert’s obstinance is just like the LP he made with Krause: ponderous, just f-in’ ponderous.

sjonnie | 10/29/2008, 7:54 am EST

Wake up Mr. Plant!

sjonnie | 10/29/2008, 7:51 am EST

Please Mr Plant………….?!

Fee | 10/28/2008, 2:00 pm EST

I saw Plant and Krause. It was awful. She’s like a softy gospel singer and all Plant did was either sit in a chair (or backstage) watching, and OCCASIONALLY come out to add a TINY bit of vocals. They played (and I use that term loosely) 3 Zep songs…..so slowly and country’d up, it was just sad. There were about 1-2 minutes total where Plant hit some vocals that sounded good. And all it was was a tease. And the audience! Everyone was just sitting there doing nothing. I saw Page/Plant in the mid 90s and it was outstanding. It is possible that Plant knows his voice is shot, I just don’t know. But yes, time is certainly running out. They would all have to be completely healthy and Plant would probably have to take some sort of vocal lessons/excercizes to maximize what’s left of his……instrument. But come on Plant! What are you going to wait for? You’re about 5 years away from being a senior citizen. Unless it’s all hype…..in which case, hope to see you at MSG.

kissfan | 10/12/2008, 6:36 pm EST

I agree that Zep fans have unrealistic expectations. Do you really think they will sound like they did 1969-1975 and have the same kind of improv chops they did back in the day? Plant has always been smart enough to know this. If Page really does get frustrated enough to go with another singer, why not Terry Reid, his original choice for Zeppelin in the first place? At least it would have some credibility.

perdanales | 10/7/2008, 6:10 pm EST

Amazing…the US has one foot in the door of a depression, and most people are literally struggling to keep gas in the car, pay a few bills on time and maybe catch a major concert a year.

What is so amazing - that my dear hero of yesterday - Robert Plant - makes so much money doing what he loves to do that he can’t find time
to join a Zep tour to make people happy! Heck Robert, since you don’t ned the money, please tour and donate it to some good causes to help people in need.

You hold so much power in your hands - the average human has little funds or power.

Think and dare to what is right; you are not getting any younger.

Carlos | 10/6/2008, 7:15 pm EST

LZ has outstanding position in todays young ones, maybe Robert P is just scared that their OLD LOOKS scared the Young Fans away. Let’s keep it that way. LZ in HOT.

Jason Daniel Baker | 10/6/2008, 3:31 pm EST

Oh well. Maybe in two years then.

Plant has always been the one reluctant to bring Zep back in any way.

He was tight with Bonham in a way the others weren’t and when Bonzo passed he was understandably devastated.

Rumours back in 1980 that they might replace Bonham with Cozy Powell or Carl Palmer proved to be just that.

Zep stayed together longer than most bands and never made a line-up change until reunion shows like at Live Aid and Jason Bonhams wedding and Atlantic records anniversary.

Billie Bob | 10/6/2008, 3:07 pm EST

Robert’s bangng Alison? Wow, she’s cute, too. I wouldn’t mind having my name on that list but I’m not a rock star. Oh, well, life goes on.

Dean | 10/6/2008, 2:48 am EST

Who needs another reunion tour that is going to be severely overpriced? Those old bands were best in their day,and should stay retired.

Kix | 10/6/2008, 2:42 am EST

Ah well. It is a shame, but Planty does have his commitments and main priorities. I’m sure he has enough on his plate, anyway.

-K.W.

David | 10/4/2008, 2:39 pm EST

If Robert Plant has other commitments then that’s that. Stop your crying…

Joe S. | 10/4/2008, 12:24 pm EST

LZ were giants in their hayday. I hear their music all the time from teenager’s cars. If Robert doesn’t want to tour or record, you have to respect that.We can all hope that someday he will change his mind.

Cheryl | 10/3/2008, 7:37 pm EST

Sooooo Sad !! I would love nothing more to see LED ZEP as a whole band.I have seen Page and Plant together and it was the best of the best concerts I have ever seen.I saw Robert with his Strange Sensation band also and he was terrific ! I wished him and Alison would come by Vancouver BC but no luck.I will always love Robert Plant afterall he is my man . I guess I wasn’t born soon enough to see Led Zep together . It was even in my Junior high school annual that it is my wish to see Led Zeppelin and at 44 I thought my dream was finally going to come true as I was not so lucky in the 02 lottery .So my dear Robert you have killed my dream!!!SOOOOO SAD!

Greg House | 10/3/2008, 7:33 pm EST

I must concur with all the folk (especially “Time to move on”,) who have figured out the paucity of talent in this band. Pretentious lyrics, boring music, and a lead singer who sounds like he’s having his genitalia removed with rusty hedge trimmers.

Mike | 10/3/2008, 5:17 pm EST

Roberts an asshole, party pooper.
Yes he is a Mighty God of rock and so are Page and Jonesy.

He should’nt be so disrespectful to the fans and the remaining members of the band.
And screw all you Zep haters!!!

Time to Move On | 10/3/2008, 3:54 pm EST

Led Zep is the most over-rated band of all time. Classic Rock stations play this band ad-nauseum while ignoring Zep’s more worthy contemporaries such as The Who, Stones, etc. There is a station in St. Louis that plays these guys on the hour. Enough! Next!!

James Becker | 10/3/2008, 12:40 pm EST

Robert Plant should do a few shows with remaining members of Led Zep. How about NYC, Chicago, and L.A, and a maybe a few other stops along the way? Led Zep is one of Rocks biggest influences, and HAS the strongest sound ever created!!!

hitfan | 10/3/2008, 11:24 am EST

It’s just as well that Led Zeppelin not reunite. I got to see the O2 show in snipppets on Youtube after the fact — which is fitting because LZ always gave a wink and a nod towards fans who bootlegged their shows.

After the disastrous Led Zeppelin performance at Live Aid in ‘85, it’s understandable why they’re apprehensive about having a reunion. The O2 arena show is a fitting swan song–it was a rousing success and a great way to provide closure to the legend of Zeppelin.

Now they can retire on top, just like Rocky Marciano.

black bottom | 10/2/2008, 5:42 pm EST

I did not realize Plant was banging Alison Krauss -are you sure that is true? Where are you getting that informaion?

crowley | 10/1/2008, 8:27 pm EST

i agree with lot of these people. But what i really think is that the best thing that could happen is tha zep do the global tour it would be amazing, hoping they to come to latin america. About plant i think he is completely wrong he should leave everything he’s doin’ at the time and meet whith jimmy and jon and do that tour

the seeker | 10/1/2008, 6:32 pm EST

who cares anymore!

Ari | 10/1/2008, 3:05 pm EST

Rob has become a snob. He’s distancing himself from the dirty, bluesy, hard rock sound that made him. He’s gone all poofy and sensitive now singing silly ditties while banging a hotter co-musician, in Allison. What does he care, selfish pig? Sod off! Get a new young gun and tour, but don’t call yourselves Zeppelin. I’ll pay good money to watch the other guys and a couple of new talents singing and drumming. Fuck Plant!

CM | 10/1/2008, 12:50 pm EST

¿What about Steven Tyler?…¿Why not?

Jexxy Warner | 10/1/2008, 12:19 am EST

I think Plant is being unfair to the other guys in Zeppelin. If it wasnt for them he wouldnt be here today, and the world needs Zep to remind it about what good rock sound like.Lets face it rockn roll is dying.
One tour, one album then permanent retirement, whats so bad about that Rob? Huh?

Two Years Yoazurrs

Marc | 9/30/2008, 3:29 pm EST

Judging from the London concert last year, the surviving members + Jason can make great music. However, Plant keeps evolving as a musician, which makes a reunion tour a digression for him. Page needs a strong singer/lyricist for him to record anything with substance in it. Unfortunately, only three guys have been able to fit this criteria: Plant, Paul Rodgers who is now with Queen, and David Coverdale. Maybe Page should record with D.C. again and then the Zep reunion rumors will subside.

Plant | 9/30/2008, 12:58 pm EST

Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock/blues band ever. Jimmy Page the greatest guitarist. Robert Plant has, since the demise of LZ, created some of the best music of that time. His creativity is amazing. His Raising Sand album tills new musical territory. I saw Robert and Alison this past summer, and you could tell Robert was genuinely happy. He’s having a great time! He’s given us so much already, he owes us nothing more. Let’s appreciate what he’s given us, and wish him happiness whatever he’s doing.

The Truth Commission | 9/30/2008, 12:07 am EST

This is all about expectations. When baby boomers hear “Led Zeppelin” they expect what they heard in 1971. Most people on this board aren’t in that category, but you have to accept that is what the typical Zep fan wants whether it’s what you want or expect.

Zep is one of the biggest, most influential and ubiquitous bands in history. They aren’t a venerable blues act that survives on the road even into their 70’s and 80’s.

Zeppelin is expected to bring down the arena/stadium every time they play: that is what they did and they did it better than any other band from their era. The casual, average ticket buyer doesn’t read every news article about a reunion, nor do they have an appreciation of Plant’s current limitations. They want Black Dog the way they hear it on the album!

The Stones can get by on lowered expectations because they’ve never stopped touring/recording: there’s never been that long, icy period where the fans’ perception of the band remained frozen in time, as is the case with most Zep fans over the age of 40.

It’s the same way with a lot of other rock, country, jazz and blues artists. A country singer can retain his old fans while making new ones (the late Johnny Cash), and a rock group in their 50’s can sell-out massive arena tours without ever changing their sound (AC/DC).

A small, acoustically-themed amphitheater tour that hides the band’s limitations while emphasizing the subtlety and intimacy of their current strengths (i.e. Plant’s voice) would be satisfying, but a majority of people want Whole Lotta Love played as hard as they heard it in 1971. Most people wouldn’t consider the former a proper reunion, so Plant ain’t doing it, and I commend him for it.

David | 9/29/2008, 11:10 pm EST

If Zeppelin where to tour it would be like Paul and Ringo coming together and touring as The Beatles.

retardation | 9/29/2008, 10:45 pm EST

Led Zeppelin is not Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. A tour without him would be horrible and an insult to their music.

dicky moe | 9/29/2008, 10:28 pm EST

Gotta disagree with the Stones slamming. Loved Bigger Bang, and every thing I caught of them on TV they sounded pretty good. And Mick still has more energy and showmanship in his little finger than a thousand Death Cabs, Radioheads, and other whiny bores have in their entire audiences!

Zep, on the other hand, who I also love, shouldn’t bother. Plant’s in another place now both in mind set and in vocal range. He obviously doesn’t want to just collect a paycheck and walk through the past with a set of pipes that while sounding pretty good in the lower registers peters out the higher the notes get.

TurdBurglar | 9/29/2008, 10:06 pm EST

ZEPPELIN IS GOD!

But that being said, Plant has the idea. Keep it cool, baby! It is like Kyuss and Soundgarden, they all have a complete perfect legacy at this moment in time and there is no need to disturb it. I am off to see Plant and Krauss though Wed in Seattle. See you there Mr. Plant.

Chad..... | 9/29/2008, 10:04 pm EST

….Kroeger from Nickelback and Robert Plant have the worst hair ever.

steve | 9/29/2008, 8:51 pm EST

all of us, including myself need to wake up and deal with the truth. robert is what 65 years old? in two years 67? why don’t they get john mccain to sing in plants place. he probably will have the free time!

young at heart | 9/29/2008, 7:49 pm EST

hey ’stupid reunion tours’: do you REALLY think Zep needs to “prove to us your all that” Your kidding right? Or just young?

Enough already | 9/29/2008, 7:10 pm EST

Zeppelin died with John Bonham. As much as I’d love to see a reunion of Page, Plant and Jones, along with Jason, it’s obviously not going to happen. Robert has moved on with his life and his career, and he has said dozens of times over the years that he doesn’t want to “trade on past glories”. It doesn’t make him a bad person. It means he doesn’t want to live in the past. Do any of you live in your pasts? No? Then why should he? Get over it and leave the guy alone. He’s doing just fine with his own new music.

Over it all | 9/29/2008, 6:05 pm EST

I say the three need to move on with out Plant and stop talking about it. Get another front man and move forward. Plenty of bands do it all the time and though it can be agreed that it would not be Zepplin of time past what really is? Plant cant sing how he did when he was 20. Jimmy etc. It’s about celebration and frankly if JP can find another singer all of this would be mute. This way you two-steppers can nance around with Plant and the fiddler and we rockers can bang our heads for a few hours with music we were raised on. Rock on.

heyjude9958@yahoo.com | 9/29/2008, 5:33 pm EST

I wish the morons who keep putting the rumors up on the net would just stop already! I was estatic with happiness when I read he had finally agreed, I should have known it was a cruel rumor! I just wanted it to be true so bad!! What a freakin let down! And yes, fydo I agree, can we at least get the 02 DVD!!?

black bottom | 9/29/2008, 5:19 pm EST

If Page can come up with some great new music maybe it would inspire Plant record a new Led Zeppelin album. Til then forget a LZ tour. Plant’s solo albums are more than enough.
They’re amazing!

Hunter | 9/29/2008, 3:29 pm EST

Zee - I saw Robert during the Might Rearranger tour and was blown away. Him not doing Zep stuff is just fine with me. I think the fact people are buying tickets to see him and Allison as they support an album should clearly understand that more than likely they will focus on that material and some side stuff. Hope you had a good time though.

artificialred | 9/29/2008, 3:28 pm EST

As much as i would love to see Zeppelin once in my life, I think they should keep Zeppelin where it is, the past. The refusal to do a reunion tour is what sets them apart from all of the dinosaurs that continue to carry on, long after their prime. The Rolling Stones come to mind, they are just tired and pathetic anymore!! They are the best for a reason, because they knew when to let it go!!!

Led Zep Fan | 9/29/2008, 2:15 pm EST

I am sick of Robert being the sticking point in Zep reunions. If you don’t like reunion tours, don’t go, but there are millions who want the chance to see Led Zep once in our life!

Robert, you are a cool guy, but please just do one damn tour for the fans (and you will shut everyone up if you do!)

If not…the 02 show would be the biggest tease in Rock!

zee | 9/29/2008, 2:09 pm EST

Hunter –.> saw the Raising Sand tour earlier this year.. Expect to hear ONLY the songs on that album, plus 3 Zep songs, 2 of which you won’t recognize until halfway through when you hear the lyrics.. I personally loved the concert, must fans however left frustrated and the feeling of being “ripped off”

toby | 9/29/2008, 1:53 pm EST

perhaps Led Zep as we knew them is the best choice for all.

the hermit | 9/29/2008, 1:27 pm EST

their reunion probably deals with the level of commitment Plant has to LZ’s status of spreading “the word”. On occasion Plant has tried to distance himself from LZ’s “agenda”. He knows what the Hermit expects from him–he’s resisting.

Jungleland2 | 9/29/2008, 12:38 pm EST

Makes no sense for Plant to do a Zep tour. A few shows would be nice but I think Page, Jonesey and Jason should hire a young & hungry singer and tour as Page & Jones. If Boston, Journey, Foreigner, Yes can all do this, why not Page?

Rob | 9/29/2008, 12:13 pm EST

Plant is being ridiculous. Obviously Page and the boys want to tour and Plant is just acting like is too almighty self in refusing to do so. But he continues to do Led Zep songs with Krauss in concert that just seem to annoy all Zep fans. Get off the high-horse Robert and tour already!

StevenX | 9/29/2008, 11:44 am EST

I think Robert got caught up in reunion fever before the O2 gig when talking about maybe LZ should hit it again after all. Then as time passed, the reality hit…a reunion would get picked apart, and if things weren’t perfect (and probably even better than tne first time round) it would not only be a disappointment but a legend-deflater for some. And the Zeppelin legend deserves to remain intact. “It’s better to burn out than to fade away”…..:)

Kbhr | 9/29/2008, 11:25 am EST

Why doesn’t Page just contact Terry Reid (his original first choice) and form a new band? Reid’s voice is still superior to Plant’s anyway.

Rob J. | 9/29/2008, 10:58 am EST

I saw the last Page/Plant tour in 1998. Which basically WAS a Zep tour, in all but name. Good enough!

Jimmy Page | 9/29/2008, 10:42 am EST

No, what is frustrating is constant refusals for something that should happen. Who gets hurt by a reunion so long as it’s done the way the Police did it? If it’s a good show, and not some ongoing farce like the Stones, fans won’t mind to have one last chance to see Zeppelin. Even if it means breaking the bank to do so.

fydo1974 | 9/29/2008, 10:37 am EST

Can we at least get a DVD of the O2 concert, then?

stupid reunion tours | 9/29/2008, 10:12 am EST

reunion tours suck,,,,,,just come up with some new material,,,,prove to us that you are “all that”,,,in the mean time, give us a break with these overpriced come back tours.

Hunter | 9/29/2008, 9:45 am EST

I am seeing Robert tomorrow night. Raising Sand is such an excellent album. I do ish Robert would do a full blown Zep tour in the next year or so… Please Robert. You are such a talented performer.
