- DJ AM and former blink-182 drummer Travis Barker both survived a jet crash that killed four people in South Carolina. A blown tire has been blamed in the fatal accident. Meanwhile, DJ AM is reportedly out of the hospital and on his way back to Los Angeles.
- Two potentially earth-shattering enterprises entered the music industry this week. First, major labels finally agreed to embrace technology by segueing into the realm of memory card albums. Then, MySpace Music, the all-in-one music service/social network, launched after agreeing to a deal with EMI, the last major label holdout.
- We caught concerts like New Kids on the Block’s first U.S. show in 15 years, Weezer’s tour-opening show, Neil Young and Willie Nelson at Farm Aid, My Bloody Valentine and Thurston Moore at All Tomorrow’s Parties, Al Green in Los Angeles, Jimmy Buffett in Paris and Paul McCartney in Tel Aviv.
