“Chinese Democracy” Rumors: Release Date, Best Buy Exclusive

The latest rumors regarding the release of Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy have been swirling around message boards this week. The first rumor is that the long-awaited album will be released exclusively through Best Buy on November 25th. The source of the multi-tiered rumors is a supposed “vendor convention” that Best Buy had on Wednesday in Dallas, Texas. Reportedly, Guns manager Andy Gould told the 900 employees the news about Chinese Democracy before previewing three songs from the album. Cellphone recordings of the event were later distributed through GNR fan forums. Gould also reportdly alerted the crowd that “If The World” would also be featured in the closing credits for the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio/Russell Crowe film Body of Lies, which was confirmed by message boarders on movie websites (like IMDB) who happened to catch a press screening of the film yesterday. The number of witness accounts, evidence and message boards involved makes it hard to believe this is all just a hoax, but this is Axl Rose we’re talking about, so we’ll believe it when the press release reaches our inbox. Still, we’re cautiously looking forward to Chinese Democracy and free Dr. Pepper on November 25th.

Let me just jump the gun on all the “AXL RULES” and “AXL SUCKS” and “GNR isnt GNR without Slash” posts and say that it’s about time. GNR is a seminal part of rock and roll since Appetite was released, in whatever form that name GNR occupies. I happen to like about 6 of the leaks I’ve heard and I think this will be a really good album.

Joel | 9/26/2008, 11:36 am EST

I can’t wait for Chinese Democracy!!

dude | 9/26/2008, 12:05 pm EST

I just don’t have any hope for this album, and to think that it’s been in the work for how long? It’s going to blow, pure and simple.

CJ | 9/26/2008, 12:43 pm EST

Fuck All The Naysayers – this album is gonna shut everyone up. This is no St. Anger – this is revival at it’s finest!

Alec | 9/26/2008, 1:16 pm EST

HELL WILL SOON FREEZE OVER – CHINESE DEMOCRACY STARTS NOVEMBER 25TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this comes out it will be one of the best days of my life, I know Axl n’ Roses will probably never top the original GNR, but if you’ve listened to the leaks, you’ll realize that this will be the best album released in a VERY long time.

Undertaker | 9/26/2008, 1:40 pm EST

I think everyone should download the leaks and check the songs out so they will know what to expect,if people are expecting the “new” GN’R to sound like the “old” GN’R they will be dissapointed.

Mitch | 9/26/2008, 1:45 pm EST

I heard all the recorded songs from the convention and all I got to say is Axls vocals are awesome and SLASH SOUNDS BETTER THAN ALL OF HIS PREVIOUS WORK!!!

Reagen | 9/26/2008, 1:52 pm EST

this is fabulous news, im 67 years old, been anticipating this album for maybe 5 years. i cant wait for more songs.

Randy | 9/26/2008, 1:52 pm EST

I just downloaded the recordings. Slash totally rocks all over Chinese Democracy! Axl was smart by bringing him back!

Marc | 9/26/2008, 1:52 pm EST

The initial leaks were terrible. Too much 80’s reverb. Too many “Circa 2000″ studio tricks. Axl waited too long, now this thing sounds dated.

Marc | 9/26/2008, 1:52 pm EST

axlslovergirl | 9/26/2008, 2:00 pm EST

HAHAHA!!! | 9/26/2008, 2:06 pm EST

“Too much 80’s reverb” What a douche.

Mitch | 9/26/2008, 2:06 pm EST

You can hear it is Slash on guitar… no one on the face of the earth plays that Badass!

Stacie | 9/26/2008, 2:11 pm EST

Stevie | 9/26/2008, 2:16 pm EST

Wen i heard these tracks wow my penis finally got erected like ala and i think i came first time ever happend

Dumb Git | 9/26/2008, 2:16 pm EST

Who cares? anybody can make a half-decent record in the time it’s taking him to finish it. He is the most bloated rock star in all history.

Mitch | 9/26/2008, 2:23 pm EST

Shut up! All he need to do to finish it is Bring Slash Back… AND HE DID!!!

AXL + SLASH = GNR Chinese Democracy!!!

So when is.... | 9/26/2008, 2:25 pm EST

Dumb Git’s album coming out?

GNR | 9/26/2008, 2:31 pm EST

It’s not Slash dumbasses…..and yes it does rock without him!

CT | 9/26/2008, 2:32 pm EST

If and when this album comes out I would request that when Rolling Stone review it, they review the actual album and NOT the circumstances surrounding it. Please omit or fight the desire to use the 17 year delay, the $15 million price tag, the vast amount of time working on the album, as points of criticism. Review the music. Critique the music. Nothing communicates a bullshit review more clearly then using circumstance as criticism to an already shaky “journalistic” vocation.

gnr | 9/26/2008, 2:37 pm EST

it isn’t slash…..and the songs still rock. Great work Axl. Looking forward to Nov. 25th.

gnr | 9/26/2008, 2:39 pm EST

Well said CJ! From what I’ve heard this is an amazing musical project and a fair review is more important than sarcasm and cheap shots.

AxlRose | 9/26/2008, 2:43 pm EST

Please don’t let this be a rumor. I’m sick of waiting. Give me the damn album.

Joe | 9/26/2008, 2:45 pm EST

Well said CT.

I’ve made this point before but the two biggest lightning rods for posts on this blog are Bono and Axl. Oasis is releasing a new album and no one really seems to care. Even the people who claim they dont care about Axl take the time to tell the world.

Mitch | 9/26/2008, 2:47 pm EST

I know Slash, when I hear Slash… and that is Slash on those Chinese Democracy Songs!

Peter | 9/26/2008, 2:54 pm EST

I had awesome laugh, it is not SLASH !! It’s Bumblefoot playin’ on those tracks , especially on CD – his guitar fills, and he re-recorded solo on fretless guitar

Myk | 9/26/2008, 2:58 pm EST

*sigh* Look, you clearly don’t know Slash if you think that’s him. He isn’t in the band anymore. He hasn’t been in the band since the early 1990’s. There are three guitarists in the band now – Ron Thal, Robin Finck and Richard Fortus. Some of the album parts are also played by Buckethead. If you think I’m talking crap, check Wikipedia, check the official GN’R site, check anywhere. Slash IS NOT on this album. So to all you people who said “GN’R is nothing without Slash”, but are now saying that he sounds better than ever… I think you may be hypocrites.

Cub Fan | 9/26/2008, 3:02 pm EST

Im sorry but its not slash, its bumblefoot, and Richard Fortus

OK, we.... | 9/26/2008, 3:10 pm EST

…can put to rest that Slash is on this album, ’cause he’s not. But that does not discount the fact that, in particular, “Madagascar”, “IRS”, “There was a Time” and “Better” have some great guitar work on them. Im hoping the tour has Finck. Any reunion of GNR would only be a ane-off to play the old hits.

Peter | 9/26/2008, 3:10 pm EST

nono
1.1st and 2nd solo and There Was A time is Robin Finck, outro solo is Buckethead
2. If the World – flamenco guitar solo is Buckethead, electric guitar solo is Richard Fortus
3. Chinese Democracy – guitar play is Richard Fortus, Robin Finck, Bumblefoot , solo is Finck (first part) Bumblefoot( second part)

Mitch | 9/26/2008, 3:23 pm EST

I don’t know who those people are that you are claiming is playing the guitar, they probably suck. THAT IS SLASH PLAYING! NO DOUBT IT IS SLASH!

Derreck | 9/26/2008, 3:32 pm EST

Alright Slash is back with GN’R! I want these new tracks!

benny | 9/26/2008, 3:56 pm EST

Who gives a flying-four who plays on these tracks.

Two things are for sure: This is Guns N’ Roses and the tracks sound awesome.

Jeff | 9/26/2008, 4:24 pm EST

Wow, the only usual blah blah post about “where’s Slash?” or “It’s not GN’R” or “It’s Axl’s Solo Project” or “China will be a democracy before Chinese Democracy is released” …is the first post where someone mockingly says it first to get it out of the way.

Could it be people are finally catching on and realizing this shit ROCKS??

mikko | 9/26/2008, 6:07 pm EST

Welcome back Slash!!
…and rest of Guns N’ Roses too ofc.

Myk | 9/26/2008, 6:11 pm EST

Mitch, you’re so wrong, you don’t even know it.

factual elf | 9/26/2008, 6:46 pm EST

guys its not slash, he only knows 7 blues licks….you can recognize it like this. if it is pointless wanking and sliding it is bumblefoot. if it is bluesy funky stuff it is finck, if it is cool raw guitarplaying it is fortus.

bucket can be on here and there too and he is the best, but left in 2002.

Joe | 9/26/2008, 6:51 pm EST

Yeah, Jeff, now we just have “Slash sounds great!!” posts. LOL

And this shit certainly do ROCK.

How about.... | 9/26/2008, 7:27 pm EST

…the “crazed genius” Axl and the marketing strategy? First the video game, then the movie, then the album. Both the songs are really good. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

James | 9/26/2008, 7:31 pm EST

Just heard the song Better. That is clearly Slash at the end! No one plays with that emotion anymore!

naireh | 9/26/2008, 8:58 pm EST

I was in a concert in 2006 and it sounds like Slash, but it wasn’t. It sounds better. So I don’t want to see anymore a post saying “where’s slash?”. He’s drugged anywhere.

mullethead | 9/26/2008, 11:59 pm EST

The guitars are all by Buckethead, Robin Finck, Richard Fortus and Ron Thal. Slash wishes he could play that well in this day and age but can’t even come close

Bryan | 9/27/2008, 12:03 am EST

Slash is not in GNR. All those solos and guitar parts you all suddenly enjoy are all played by his replacements (Buckethead, Robin Fink, Richard Fortus, and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal).

Mitch | 9/27/2008, 12:16 am EST

That is SLASH! there is only three people in history that could play that awesome: Hendrix, Slash, and Lenny!!!

oneAXLinamillion | 9/27/2008, 8:51 am EST

how many dumbs around here??!

slash is not in the band since 1996!!!!

You idiots

HORSEY | 9/27/2008, 9:31 pm EST

AXL YOU ROCK ‘
GIVEM WHAT YOU GOT !
ALOTTA ROCK !

Axl Rose | 9/28/2008, 5:40 am EST

Slash doesn’t care about black people….

rocknroll47 | 9/28/2008, 5:30 pm EST

Can someone please tell me where to find the recordings? I need to hear them really badly! Is Slash really on them?!

rocknroll47 | 9/28/2008, 5:36 pm EST

Actually, it might not be Slash. The other leaks were recorded before Bumble Foot joined. So it could be him playing his fret less guitar.

rocknroll47 | 9/28/2008, 5:51 pm EST

By the way, Chinese Democracy is better than anything Velvet Revolver ever did. People just pretend to like them to stay true to Slash. For your information, he even admitted that Velvet could’ve made better records. So…IS SOMEONE GOING TO TELL ME WHERE TO FIND THE BEST BUY LEAKS OR WHAT?!

jack the monkey | 9/28/2008, 6:03 pm EST

hey rocknroll47 this cant be bumble foot or slash this rumor probably started with some idiot that doesn’t know that slash quit

jack the monkey | 9/28/2008, 6:12 pm EST

hey rocknroll47 you might be wrong it might not be slash or bumble foot maybe the guy who said its slash didn’t know slash quit. so…NO I DON’T KNOW WERE TO FIND YOUR LEAKS!

Me | 9/28/2008, 6:53 pm EST

Where is all this “Slash back in GNR” nonsense coming from? Have you people been living under a rock? He’s not back in the band.

THIS..... | 9/28/2008, 7:47 pm EST

…is a public-service announcement. Slash has not played on this record. The people who have posted otherwise are just attempting to be “funny”. Slash has called Axl’s work on these tracks “brilliant”.

Joe Mama | 9/28/2008, 11:20 pm EST

I love Peter, Paul, and Mary! They rock!

Faxl | 9/29/2008, 2:48 pm EST

IT’S NOT SLASH.

rocknroll47 | 9/29/2008, 3:18 pm EST

THIS…is right. Slash said he heard the final record and said “It’s the record the original Guns N Roses could never make.” That means he isn’t on it. Axl didn’t start working on the album until 1999. Slash quit in 1996.

rocknroll47 | 9/29/2008, 3:22 pm EST

The old Guns N Roses did work on an album in 1995, but Axl walked out on it to form the new Guns N Roses. Then Duff walked out on it to make his second solo album. Thats when the other members turned it into the first Snake Pit album. Like I said before, Axl didn’t start Chinese Democracy until 199. He spent 1996 and 1997 forming the new band. Then they re-recorded Appetite in 1998.

Dumbledor | 9/29/2008, 4:50 pm EST

I actually think it is Lenny Kravitz playing on the leaks. No one else can play that tight.

rocknroll47 | 9/29/2008, 5:22 pm EST

The guy at the best buy convention said the record will have 15 songs. In addition, the band has 3 other albums currently in the works. So I hope they don’t put too many leaked songs on it. I want to be surprised.

jack the monkey | 9/29/2008, 5:35 pm EST

the guitarists on Chinese democracy
are rob finck,paul huge,buckethead
brian may(who only plays in one song)rich fortus, bumble foot.
besides slash and axl havent seen each other in 12 years

Dumbledor | 9/29/2008, 5:38 pm EST

The milkman said it’ll drop out of his ass on Nov. 4%rd. In addition, he also sold me some milk. I hope that’ll teach you.

rocknroll47 | 10/1/2008, 5:55 pm EST

In 1999, Axl said they were working on 70 songs. In 2006, he said they were working on 32 songs but only 13 would be on the album. He also added that it sounds like Queen. In 2007, Sebastian Bach said Axl had four albums and it sounded like doom metal. Now, this guy at best buy says it has 15 songs. Who do I believe?!

Dumb Arses | 10/2/2008, 8:01 pm EST

All you guys are thick who think slash is back in GNR, that will never ever hapan get over yourselves and enjoy the fact that Chinese Democracy is finally seeing the light of the day on November 25. Yes scott Wailand has left velvet revolver but wait for it LENNY KRAVITZ will front slashs new super group, he aint in GNR and hasn’t been for nearly 2 decades get over it GNR sound great with out him!!!!

rocknroll47 | 10/16/2008, 3:29 pm EST

shitstorm | 10/21/2008, 6:27 pm EST

i can’t believe this cd is finally going to see the light of day. I hope it can hold up to the hype and anticipation of all the fans!

Andrew | 10/26/2008, 11:08 pm EST

Personally I wish slash’ll go back to guns, but if you think about it wouldn’t that be the perfet first tour show, keep everything hush hush and then all of a sudden you see slash take the stage with axl. But seriously guys until you have some actual PROOF keep all this welcome back slash crap off the forums nobody except slash and guns knows wether hes goin back.

mercedes | 10/28/2008, 2:12 pm EST
