Britney Spears’ New Single “Womanizer” Hits Radio

9/26/08, 1:51 pm EST

Britney Spears’ “Womanizer,” the first single from her upcoming Circus, finally hit radio stations this morning before getting uploaded onto YouTube, as evidenced by the video above. The song, with its dark synths and propulsive backbeat, was produced by Atlanta crew the Outsyders. Spears reportedly shot a video for “Womanizer” yesterday at a Los Angeles sushi restaurant, with Brit playing the role of a “vampy waitress.” In the meantime, “Womanizer” will make its television debut this Monday on a new episode of MTV’s The Hills. For more info on Spears’ Circus, the album she calls her “best work ever,” check our fall music preview.

When Spears broke on the scene in the nineties, I despised her. I was a rebellious teenager (14) head deep into Pink Floyd and she represented everything wrong with music. She didn’t write her own songs, didn’t play any instruments, and she used sexual attraction to hypnotize every male friend I had. Over time, that disgust has faded and I actually feel bad for Spears now. We made an idol of her and then we were quick to tear her down (her actions were simply that of someone completely lost, who needs some more time to mature). Anyway, I think this is probably one of Britney’s best songs. Her voice bounces perfectly through the tainted love sample and effectively climaxes after she whispers, “I know what you are.” Foxnews has written this awful review that focuses mainly on the lyrical quality (are they kidding?) and dismisses the song as having “no melody.” Whatever. They’re wrong. It makes me, Mr. Floyd, wanna dance. So, screw ‘em.

Joe | 9/26/2008, 8:43 pm EST

“Gimme More” kinda drew me in and I thought it was pretty good. I did not get her last album, but this new song “Womanizer” may make me rethink that. Good stuff. Britney has actually evolved her voice and doesn’t seem to rely on those cliche sex sounds she makes. And just as on “Gimme More”, the production and beat on this song are both really good. Joke if you want, but Miss Spears is back.

As a fan of hers from the beginning i find this far from her best work. Unfortunately it will be huge since it is bland and repetitive. That is what 85% of the Top 40 consists of. I am hoping that this was just a cheap ploy to suck people in and then will get at least SLIGHTLY deeper as the singles go on.

Clamhorn | 9/29/2008, 4:41 pm EST

Didn’t realize she still did music. I thought the big “comeback” everyone was talking about was purely a promotional campaign. Does she still try to perform live?

Anonymous | 9/30/2008, 12:14 am EST

britney has had a rough year, but she has definitely made a comeback. Now she can sit back and laugh at those that people who were so quick to cut her down…gotta love her!

Moses | 9/30/2008, 3:56 am EST

I loooove this song. I think people were too quick to write her off. I think that people are now gonna be peeved to see that they were wrong and she is bakc in the biggest sense of the word!

Best work so far. Been A fan fron the get go. She is very intriguing, i get her appeal, a woman in search of who she is, who happens to be in the spotlight. All her hardships just shows that she is a human i think it gives her more depth and charecter, now she can go on stage and actually mean what she says or what she feels,It seems to me that at this moment she seems to want to rejoice and dance as refelcted in the feel of womanizer ‘out with the old’ ‘in with the new’ sort of attitude which is by far sexier then any of her skimpy outfits, sort of- confidence luv this girl and what she stands for the american dream and taking control even if you falter Song fucking rules all the way!!!!!!! The melody is crazy, catchy vocal performance is strong and matches the style of music- dance track, what music was made for!

Best work ever???!!!! Let her try and do something without lipsynching, computerized music tracks and taking off her clothes. Go ahead and show us what you can do?

b | 10/26/2008, 9:25 pm EST

i here a sample of tainted love in the beat…
but i also think there’s a sample in the “boy don’t try to front…etc” chorus portion of the lyrics…
like from a playground skipping song or something?
am i nutz?

shazz | 11/1/2008, 8:36 am EST

Warchamp7 | 11/5/2008, 7:24 pm EST

I have to agree with Jess up there, this song is just bad. Watching the music video almost gave me a seizure as it changed angles every half a second. I’m sorry but I just did not like this song at all.

I reviewed this song on EverHype and gave it 19%

Other people that have Hyped it don’t seem to like it either, if you get on there you should Hype it yourself and boost it’s score a bit!

jessica | 11/28/2008, 1:16 pm EST

i hate this song!!!!! it gets so annying!! i mean one day she might even speak a bit of english because its crap! she sounds like a man.! put it this way she is SHIT!

old guy from the 80's | 11/29/2008, 8:58 am EST

Matthew Parrish. you can’t be more right. Womanizer is a very cheap version of Soft Cell – “Tainted Love” of course I don’t want to compare lyrics…lol

brianna | 12/15/2008, 8:42 pm EST
