New Kids on the Block Return to U.S. Stage For First Time in 15 Years

New Kids on the Block returned to the stage for their first U.S. Show in 15 years at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s IZOD Center. A sold-out crowd of legal drinking-age women, many sporting t-shirts with “MILF” written across the back) greeted them with the same sort of fervor the New Kids enjoyed during their heyday. Though the boys stepped out to massive applause, that wasn’t good enough for Donnie Wahlberg. “15 years and that’s the best you can do?” Wahlberg joked, provoking the audience into hysterics.

Later in the night, Joey McIntyre told Rock Daily, “Canada was a warm-up — a good place to get the kinks out. Our hometown is here, in the Northeast. These are the fans who help take the show to another level.”

The group covered the expected hits, including “Right Stuff,” “Cover Girl” and “I’ll be Lovin’ You” along with tracks off their recently-released comeback album The Block. McIntyre provided a fluid solo performance of “Stay the Same,” while Jordan Knight screeched through a falsetto version of “Give it to You.”

In one of the more sentimental moments of the show, a montage of musicians and stars who have passed away since the group’s last show accompanied “If You Go Away,” with images of Kurt Cobain, Frank Sinatra, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Aaliyah, Heath Ledger and Wahlberg’s father and Wood’s mother.

With multiple outfit changes throughout the evening, the guys ended the show wearing Boston Celtics jerseys emblazoned with their last names, while performing “Hangin’ Tough.” Fluorescent strips of confetti fell to the ground to the delight of every screaming fan still living in 1990.

Set List:
“Single”
“My Favorite Girl”
“(You Got It) The Right Stuff”
“Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)”
“Valentine Girl”
“Please Don’t Go Girl”
“Grown Man” (With Nicole Scherzinger)
“Games”
“If You Go Away”
“2 In the Morning”
“Dirty Dancing”
“Tonight”
“Twisted”
“Baby I Believe in You”
“Give It To You” (Jordan solo)
“Stay the Same” (Joey solo)
“Cover Girl”
“I’ll Be Lovin’ You (Forever)”
“Click, Click, Click”
“Summertime”
Encore
“Step By Step”
“Hangin’ Tough”

have to say, i was pleasantly surprised on how great the vocals were…thought they rocked! NKOTB definitely put on a great show and i’d gladly go back for more!

Derek Evan | 9/24/2008, 8:00 pm EST

I was there, and I thought it was great show. They did most of the classic hits, along with a good amount of new tracks. I was possibly the only guy in the audience who was glad to be there and wasn’t just “dragged there” by a girl. I always liked their music, and this was my first opporutunity to see them perform live at a concert. It was a great show, and my wife liked it alot too!

flaming | 9/25/2008, 7:05 am EST

donnie was hot. i dont remember any songs though. joey was hot too.

Hurt! | 9/25/2008, 6:49 pm EST

Wow. I must say, I am a little hurt. I was at the Montreal (Canada) show on Saturday and it was fantastic – but seeing as though it was just the dress rehersal…I guess I paid way too much. Oh and by the way…Donnie never had to ask us top scream louder.

Katy | 9/26/2008, 7:58 am EST

If it was a dress rehersal, why did we pay so much? I want my money back.

Avery | 9/26/2008, 7:59 am EST

That’s what you think of Canada???? After performing to sold out shows and screaming fans… we were nothing but a warm up to you????

Insulted | 9/26/2008, 8:07 am EST

I was also at the Montreal show… not to mention the many friends who went to both the Toronto and Montreal show… We feel like we were kicked in the stomach. Maybe next time I will save my money instead of attending your “dress-reharsal”! Hope you got your Kinks out!

Isabelle | 9/26/2008, 8:43 am EST

I’m so mad at Joey. I was at the Montreal show – it was awesome! I guess Joey shouldn’t get his cut of the money they made in Canada. I’m in for a petition…

Shellie | 9/26/2008, 9:13 am EST

Totally insulted! Joey should keep his mouth shut and only open it on queue…I was at the Montreal show/dress rehearsal and loved it but to be honest I noticed a couple of screw ups from the “Kids”…perhaps the dress rehearsals should be complete BEFORE the tour begins…

Insulted Too! | 9/26/2008, 9:22 am EST

I can’t believe Joey would make those comments about Canadian fans…especially the ones who took the time to go all the way to Montreal and Toronto, bought your overpriced t-shirts and endured all that teasing from NKOTB haters!

NKOTB Fan | 9/26/2008, 9:25 am EST

What other city then Toronto do you sell out three shows in a matter of minutes. What an insult. Really, where was your PR rep. at this moment. Um- but I guess the New Jersey girls are better. Whatever!!!

Dawn | 9/26/2008, 9:59 am EST

I don’t think Joey said anything bad. He said that Canada was a great place to do a warm up. Somewhere has to be the first place. Those are the places that make or break you. Those first concerts are the ones that are going to set the pace for the whole tour and he just said that Canada was a great place to warm it up. Probably meaning that they had good reception there from their fan base and that the tour would start on a positive note. And it did. Three sold out nights. Why wouldn’t they be comfortable enough there to know that if they made a mistake or two that the fans there would be accepting and realize that this is the first time in 14 years they performed together? Take it as a compliment!

ticked | 9/26/2008, 10:42 am EST

Great publisist you have there…. not worried at all about the warm up contry eh! where is the damage contol??? Maybe this should be sent to Much Music. there are other Canadian concerts still to come, bring tomatoes to throw at them, or demand your money back.

Angela | 9/26/2008, 12:08 pm EST

I am quite insulted! And Joey is my favourite! I drove up to MTL for the show and I will admit that I had a blast. I noticed some screw ups as well and kind of just laughed at them … they have been away for 15 years. The screw ups made it seem more real. But to be told that we are basically paying for the dress rehearsal was quite insulting! If I am correct their CD did better in Canada than in the US. If Joey was just trying to tell the Northeast that it means more there because it is closer to home then fine, but I really feel he could have done so without insulting an entire Nation and many “hardcore” fans! I attended my first concert when I was 7! NKOTB have definitely been a large part of my music life!

Disappointed fan

Not nice | 9/26/2008, 12:22 pm EST

Ouch!!!!!!!!! So I guess we were like foreplay for the boys.

I was at the Montreal concert also and I have to admit that this is a bit hard to swallow.

RESPECT, MR MCINTYRE, RESPECT!

Q

Tina | 9/26/2008, 12:39 pm EST

I was at the Montreal show last weekend and I just want to say that I’m glad I got to see them again after 15 years. What a great show!
It brought back many good memories from my teen years.
As for Joe’s comment “Canada was a warm-up – a good place to get the kinks out. Our hometown is here, in the Northeast. These are the fans who help take the show to another level.”
Joe never did know what to say in an interview. I see nothings changed. Suggestion to NKOTB media relations person, Donnie should be doing all interviews.

Paw | 9/26/2008, 12:53 pm EST

I’m sure Canadian fans are thrilled to pay full price to make sure Joey and friends can “work the kinks out” for their “true” fans. Real professionals work the kinks out BEFORE the tour begins.

Jackie | 9/26/2008, 1:08 pm EST

Friends and I went to the concert in NY at Nassau Colliseum and we all said it was the best night of our lives! We woke up the next morning and bought tickets for their show at Madison Square Garden in October. They’re even better than they were in the 90’s and we can’t wait to see them again!

Jacqueline | 9/26/2008, 1:11 pm EST

Ya really nice, guess I’ll be selling my ticket to the Calgary concert on Nov 19 – do I really want to pay $75 to see some band that thinks of Canadians as their warm up / practice. Joey, I used to think you were to hot one not anymore with that crap coming out of your mouth!

Joe needs to say he's sorry | 9/26/2008, 1:23 pm EST

Wow…I just lost all respect I had for the New Kids, mainly Joey. Canada has done A LOT for your come back and us being a “warm up” is how you repay us? Pathetic…

TDot | 9/26/2008, 1:25 pm EST

As is the case with every artist/group out there, the hometown gig is always special. I don’t think his comment was intended in any way to insult anybody. I think it was more along the lines of “…we’ve been off the stage together for 15 years, and our shows in Canada will be a great test to see if we can still pull it off.” I think some people get WAY too sensitive about stuff like this. Yes, you’re a girl and (in your eyes) the biggest NKOTB fan alive…fact remains, there are millions of other girls just like you thinking the EXACT same thing. Just be thankful they got back together, organized a tour, and you got to see it. It was a great show, as I’m sure they all will be…Canada, US, or otherwise. They are all thankful to be doing what they’re doing, and although it could have been worded differently…the end result is the same. This isn’t public school anymore…or even high school…just buy the albums, watch the show, and get real.

UO | 9/26/2008, 1:31 pm EST

I have been a New Kids fan from the beginning and I was thrilled to see them in Montreal last weekend. As corny as it sounds seeing them in concert really was a dream come true. It was awesome! However, I paid $400.00 to fly to Montreal, %500.00 for a hotel room, $200.00 for the tickets and this is the thanks I get? Very low class Joey McIntyre.

Angela | 9/26/2008, 1:32 pm EST

NKOTB have a job (it is their job right now) to do and that is to please fans. Would you tell a client that they are just a warm up for better one’s? I highly doubt it!

Marla | 9/26/2008, 1:48 pm EST

I cannot beleive this! Are you kidding me right now? I was at the Montreal concert and it was AWESOME!!! I loved it… and was almost ready to go and buy tickets for one of their US shows. Now I feel completely insulted and ripped off. And with three canadian shows still coming… Way to go Joey.. maybe you should think of something nice to say before insulting your fans in an entire nation!

and Joey used to be my favorite…

Oh… TDOT – last time I checked, their home town was Boston, MA not East Rutherford, NJ!

Sue | 9/26/2008, 2:16 pm EST

Guess what Canadians? You stink and Jersey rocks! Deal with it. And FYI- what Joey said is not being disrespectful to Canadians, he is just saying that they are from the Northeast. Take a chill pill! No wonder why Jersey is better! We don’t freak out over nonsense.

katie | 9/26/2008, 2:20 pm EST

Actually nowhere in there did he say canada was a “great” place to warm up.. he just said warm up.. im sure if he did say canada was a great place to warm up we wouldnt be talking about this right now.

WOW | 9/26/2008, 2:24 pm EST

You all need to get over it…. THEY ARE FORM THE US… It’s there home! SHUT YOUR MOUTHS..
No matter what you think about that Joey said, they put on a AWESOME show!

Dar F'ton | 9/26/2008, 2:25 pm EST

My initial reaction was to be ticked about Joe’s comment but I’m sure it was not meant to hurt their Canadian fans. Just like the rest of us sometimes words come out in a way we don’t intend them to. I was at the Montreal show, drove 9 hours to get there and I gotta say the concert was worth every minute and every dollar. Canadian fans try not to take comments like this to heart, we know we’re great and always will be.

RickMac | 9/26/2008, 2:42 pm EST

Quit your crying, Canucks. It was a harmless comment. Joey Mac didn’t mean any harm, relax.

GMONEY | 9/26/2008, 2:48 pm EST

I’m not going to lie, I’m not a New Kids fan, but, like any other slave to music I read this article here, on Rolling STone, and all I have to say is wow.
I can completely understand that US is home for them, but Canada is home for me. And I can even explain why I’m so enraged by this, but I just am.
I guess I would just think that seeing as they’re not new comers to this area, they would understand that they have to be careful HOW and WHAT they say.

GMONEY | 9/26/2008, 2:50 pm EST

OH, and by area I mean fame, not Canada.

NKOTB hater | 9/26/2008, 3:01 pm EST

Listen….. any band that blatently calls out any state, province or Country as a “warm up” is insulting. What else can you call that? It was a diss plain and simple. Work out all the parts that didn’t work so well in the routine in Canada so that when you get to the US it is a better show. I didn’t have much respect for this band 15 years ago and they just proved why again.

Valerie | 9/26/2008, 3:24 pm EST

No Canadian should complain about Joey’s comment made in reference to the Canadian concerts dates being a warm-up. Really, what else would one ever expect to hear from the American’s, arrogance. Can any Canadian really be surprised.

Canuck and loving it!

Melinda | 9/26/2008, 3:25 pm EST

I think everyone needs to chill out. He wasn’t insulting Canada so stop being so sensitive. The first couple of shows for EVERY ARTIST ON TOUR are considered “warm up”. It’s their first time performing in front of an audience and it’s their first time to really see what works and what doesn’t. NKOTB has said a lot of really wonderful things about performing in Canada since their reunion so just relax!

AC | 9/26/2008, 3:29 pm EST

I guess the next level for Canada would be not to have them here anymore… I’m so glad I didn’t go see them :D

JUSTME | 9/26/2008, 3:41 pm EST

Why even put on a show in Canada if your not going to respect the fans there…I understand that he may not have meant it in a bad way that’s why you watch what you say especially when your in the piblic eh…and as for those who told us to calm down or said Canadians suck, you stupic Yankees need to chill out also and be just as respectful as Joey should have been…Your country isn’t that great so get over yourselves….

Jim | 9/26/2008, 3:42 pm EST

Can anyone say, “inferiority complex”???

Rick | 9/26/2008, 3:46 pm EST

Why such a massive inferiority complex Canada?

Love | 9/26/2008, 3:48 pm EST

NKOTB FOREVER! So glad they are back!

Rose | 9/26/2008, 3:49 pm EST

If we aren’t that great why care so much what we have to say???

Nic | 9/26/2008, 4:14 pm EST

Ouch Joe! While I don’t think you directly meant to diss Canada, you did.

Hurt | 9/26/2008, 4:23 pm EST

I was at the Montreal concert and loved it as well. I have loved them since I was 12 , Joey was my fave always. I am very disappointed in his comment. To think that they’re new album became number 1 here in Canada and not their hometown. Also, to the girl from Jersey, I’m sure if Celine Dion said the same thing as he did that you guys would feel just as insulted, she is Canadian after all. No matter what in the end he should not have said anything like that. I even got to see him right after the concert and was so excited it was a dream come true, now I think I think I just acted the fool. Shame on you Joey!!!

Sarah | 9/26/2008, 4:23 pm EST

Hey all. I’m Canadian. I was at two of the toronto shows. And you know, whatever show an artist is at, they always tell those fans they’re the best ones. Sunday night in Toronto, Donnie told us we were way better than those fans in Montreal on Saturday. I think it’s kind of sad that people get so easily insulted. We live in a sound bite culture where every word you say gets disected and it’s probably unfair to crucify him. Besides, if I were famous, I’d like my hometown fans best too.

In the end, whether he actually meant it as an insult or just didn’t think it through before he said it, it doesn’t really matter to me. I had an effin’ blast at both shows I saw and Joey certainly seemed to be giving it in his performance (bonus points for really tight pants…). The guys sound awesome, the show was a blast. We may have been the warm up, but I also get to say I was at their first show. That’s what I paid for, that’s what I got.

Sarah | 9/26/2008, 4:27 pm EST

p.s. I would think any decent performer would use each show to learn from and make the subsequent ones better. The third Toronto show was a little smoother than the first. That’s just show biz, folks.

Mad | 9/26/2008, 4:30 pm EST

I think the Americans really need to stop making comments about Canada, you are being just as rude and stupid as Joey, and the fact that you are all mostly ignorant about your neighbouring country and think we all live in Igloos proves my point.

Stacey | 9/26/2008, 4:34 pm EST

First of all, we really don’t care what Celine Dion says about us. In fact, most of us would chip in to pay for a plane ticket for her to head back to Canada!

Second, if we are so rude and ignorant why do you get so bent out of shape over what we think and say?

test | 9/26/2008, 4:35 pm EST

test

hurt | 9/26/2008, 4:44 pm EST

To Stacey really that wasn’t the point, Celine Dion is just an example it could have been any other artist. Anyhow Sarah you said it well, looking at it from your point of you I get it, but in the end as a performer and someone always in the public eye you really have to watch how you word things. Just as a side note, he said that the Montreal fans were better then the TO fans. I know I know all performers do that.

i'll be loving NKOTB forever! | 9/26/2008, 4:50 pm EST

My best friend and I proudly and giddily went to the Toronto show and it was AMAZING! True NKOTB fans listen up: if we helped our boys get over their “first night jitters” so that they could be even more awesome for the rest of their tour, then we have done our jobs as fans. Trust me, I’m sure Canada has a special place in the boys’ hearts…afterall, a Torontonian was the reason they got back together in the first place! (Nasri-Click Click Click) No other city or country has that claim to fame!

Persona Non Grada | 9/26/2008, 5:01 pm EST

It was a really bad comment but he pretty much said the same stuff in the UK about their fans. He also said something about Canadian fans being different/pleasant looking than US fans in a tv interview. They need some PR asap.

test | 9/26/2008, 5:01 pm EST

what?

Stacey | 9/26/2008, 5:04 pm EST

Hurt, I understood the point that was being made clearly. Maybe you misunderstood mine. I’m saying that Americans don’t care what Canadian celebrities say about us because we don’t really care about Canadian celebrities. Everyone should just relax!

i'll be loving NKOTB forever! | 9/26/2008, 5:29 pm EST

It was a really bad comment but not as bad as how Joey looked in his pink shirt when he came out at the montreal show. I am a huge fan of NKOTB but that comment kind of made them drop a line in my book.

i'll be loving NKOTB forever! | 9/26/2008, 5:29 pm EST

COMMENT FOR SUE | 9/26/2008, 6:22 pm EST

.. “You Stink”? Is that really the best thing you could come up with?! Are you kidding me?! I find that hillllllarious! You are truly making yourself look like a complete idiot. NICE! I am sure that if Joey made a comment about Jersey YOU would be the FIRST one on here freaking out!!!

justme | 9/26/2008, 6:23 pm EST

I could really care less about The Kids…and yeah maybe he made a mistake with that comment, and probably people are taking it too seriously…but as for the American fans on here who are outright slamming Canadian artists and fans just because they’re upset about what was said…shame on you!! We know you don’t give a flying leap (not what I really wanted to say) about much of anything except what’s in your own back yard….and that…just shows your ignorance and intolerance of others…let people voice how they feel without the nasty comments!

Sarah | 9/26/2008, 6:43 pm EST

Well Hurt, that was my point. The show you’re doing always has the best fans. So, of course he’d tell the next crowd that the previous one was a warm up. Are any of us really naive enough to think that we’re really “the best” when they tell us that?

I just think that we all put people on pedistals and forget that they’re human. I say stupid things constantly that I don’t mean the way they are taken. He’s just a guy. If he said “Canadian fans suck and I hated playing there”, well, then I could see this level of anger from the fans. He didn’t. I was sitting pretty close to the stage and he looked genuinely happy to be up there performing for us. (Full disclosure: Joey has always been my favorite.)

But a petition because he said, in what sounds like hyperbole to impress a crowd, that we were the warm up? (which technically we were?) Who cares. You want to know what would make me hate a country? The fans there turning on me for an off hand remark and actually making a petition to make me apologize. The petition is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. If you’re going to put all the effort into a petition, why not make it for something really important? There are people sick and dying in the world, you know.

We’re being oversensitive. Other celebrities, and more importantly, politicians, have said far worse things about Canada than this.

Long rant over. Peace.

The big picture | 9/26/2008, 7:26 pm EST

As a Canadian, it wasn’t so much the “this was the best place to work out the kinks” because believe it or not, I kinda think I know what he was trying to say: The Canadian audience is typically more accepting and would shrug off the kinks.

No, the part that actually bothered me about his comments was the “These fans are the ones who really take it to the next level”, as though Canadian fans aren’t as good as American fans. Like American fans mean more than Canadians.

MI | 9/26/2008, 7:36 pm EST

I have to say that I feel insulted. I bought tickets while i was on vacation in the caribean for the third show (I couldn’t even get through on ticketmaster for the first show because of the traffic).
All I have to say is that now I DON’T regret not buying one of the overpriced shirts at the concert.

LoriG | 9/26/2008, 7:37 pm EST

I was at the the last Toronto show and I did have a great time, but that comment upsets me. A lot of people came from all over Canada to come to those shows. It’s insulting! I was going to catch another show in the USA but I think I’m going to have to pass now. That’s a great way to show your appreciation to your Canadian fans and to Toronto which is the only city on the tour that has 3 shows.

chillll out I AM Canadian | 9/26/2008, 9:06 pm EST

I never when it any N K O T B shows when they came to Canada 15 years ago we did not have the money. I whent to the Montreal show OMG I was so happy had to much fun I want them to come back. They came here befor the US ya maybe US fans were upset now there saying we stink lol. I think he was saving his ass from US fans knowing that MOST of us Canadians a chillin and don’t trip
SO CANADA DON’T TRIP
we know we ROCK don’t we :-)

Krissy80 | 9/26/2008, 9:07 pm EST

I was at the Sept. 22 show in Toronto, and it was incredible!!!! The boys were definitely not faking their appreciation for the Canadian fans and Donnie was even moved to tears by all of the screaming! Toronto is also the only tour stop to have 3 dates!!! NKOTB aren’t even playing 3 shows in Boston! I think that this quote was probably just taken out of context, so I don’t think that us Canadians should worry about it.
I loved the show so much that I bought tickets for the Vancouver show! I’m flying half way across the country for these guys, and some random quote is not going to deter me from going to the show!:)

Canada loves you NKOTB!

Mon | 9/26/2008, 11:06 pm EST

Joey, u were my fav new kid and u were like the love of my life as it revolved around the NKOTB. But now u have gone from being #1 down to the bottom. It doesn’t matter how hot u are on the outside cause that rude comment of yours has totally insulted our nation and us Canadians. What other city did u have have 3 sold out shows….TO…and where is TO? That is located in Canada my friend. Did we not scream loud enuff at your concert in MTL…did u not get sold out shows in Canada. Is that the thanx and appreciation we get? Where was it that u guys were able to get prime time airtime on national television after your announcement of the NKOTB reunions…that’s right…it was on the Much Music Video awards…..in Canada. So Canada is only a warm up place, and us fans don’t help take the show to the next level…oh, I’m sorry…but u guys only did rank #1 on the billboards in Canada as oppose to #2 in the US…ur home town!!!! If you meant in a way that the Northeastern US was your hometown and it means more to the group cause it brings back the memories…fine. But did u not have a brain to say it any more nicely!!!! So next time, if you want Canada to pay for a dress rehearsal or a practice show, then don’t charge us…cause even then, no one would go. And to think that we went through hoops to get tickets to the NYC show…what for? cause u wouldn’t even appreciate it.

Jada | 9/26/2008, 11:39 pm EST

You all need to relax dont take his comment to seriously i know he wouldnt have meant it the way you Canadians have taken it, of course his hometown would be No 1 in his mind because thats where he comes from anyone would say the same thing but like someone else said musicians always say your the best crowd till the next crowd its just what they do to make you feel special on the night. Relax and dont hate them because your upset he didnt think Toronto was the greatest city in the world or something, stop acting like a child that has had their dolly taken off them they love all their fans be happy they are back!!

Uoklop | 9/27/2008, 12:08 am EST

His comment was insulting.Especially this part: “These are the fans who help take the show to another level.” I was at the Montreal show and the fans went crazy for them. It’s like he’s saying that the way we welcomed them back by screaming our heads off, loudly singing all of their songs, and clapping and cheering for them all night wasn’t good enough.

kaybone | 9/27/2008, 1:01 am EST

oh come on. it was just a comment. The guys have continuously showed how much they love canada and canadians. They are playing more shows in canada then they had originally planned. Guys act like adults and stop taking every little thing they say seriously. They were joking. They are doing this again just for the fans when they do not have to do this at all so just enjoy it while you can.

Trixx | 9/27/2008, 8:41 am EST

Reading the article in the Rolling Stone, one could take Joey’s quote out of context, however, regardless of what was said, NKOTB did come to Canada first.

I can’t believe I’m reading the amount of “HATING” on here. The whole point is the NKOTB is back! Forget about the name calling and who they love more ………….. they are spreading out their love to the entire WORLD!

The Sept 21st concert was amazing and brought me to a whole new level of respect that I have for them now. As a grown woman, I now realize just how great these guys are. The love I have for these MEN now is so unreal!

So, for real, to our fellow NKOTBers in the States and Overseas……… enjoy this reunion, soak it up! IT’S TIME! We don’t know if we’ll ever get another chance to see them once this tour is over. Stop the hating and just love the moment!

They are pathetic and totally washed up! Why would anybody want to watch a bunch of 40 year old guys singing about girls in bikinis. Its kind of creepy actually. I guess when they realized their individual careers were going nowhere fast and the money was running out….they thought they would be welcomed back…..pretty LAME! I saw them at the Much Music Video Awards and they looked and sounded awful! They need to go to Boston and stay in Boston and live off royalties if that’s possible!

Sooo GAY | 9/27/2008, 12:25 pm EST

WOW this entire topic is retarded…people should find more important things to debate about. NKOTB are a soon to be a past memory as they were before the come back…

JEN | 9/28/2008, 1:52 pm EST

Ok guys, give Joey some slack! As anyone, you will never feel as comfortable as you do in your home town no matter where you go off and live its only Natural. And you always get better the more and more you do something so quit taking things to heart. It was fun and probably the best night so move on. Remember every one says things and people take them out of context. I live in MN and I believe they enjoyed the show just as much as the fans! I seen some pics! Looked great can’t waite to see them in MN.

pennylane | 9/28/2008, 2:03 pm EST

Canadians and Americans…..CHILL!! I’m a canadian and have loved NKOTB from the very beginning. I have also toured and have done many many shows so I know what it’s like to be out there. I know what Joe is trying to say. He just didn’t word it properly. (where is his publist when you need him/her?!?!) The first few shows of my tour…weren’t the best…but no one knew. To me and my tourmates, they were “warm-ups”. That’s just how you feel. Of course there is going to be mistakes and changes needed to be made, but the more shows you do..the more comfortable you are and the show gets better and better.

You guys are making too much out of it. Grow up!! You’re not children anymore!

Sweet Candy | 9/28/2008, 9:13 pm EST

I’m from Montreal, and I was at the concert,it was awesome. And if we were a warm up, I hope the rest of the fans can leave up to our warm up.
cuz not one is going to measure up to us!!!NKOTB for ever, no matter what. Love those guys

BL | 9/29/2008, 2:20 pm EST

People, please put things in perspective.

The montreal show was absolutely phenomenal as I’m sure were the 3 sold out shows in Toronto. The media has always loved to pick on these guys no matter how incredible their success and especially now with such an unbelievable comeback, what better way than to distort a simple non-threatening comment.

Joe by NO means was dissing Canada. If you know ANYthing about these guys, as all their true mature fans can attest to, they are some of the most genuinely appreciative artists EVER to be in the business.

Seriously, find something more useful to complain about and let us all enjoy this amazing opportunity again to see these guys do what they do best…. ENTERTAIN (as hot as ever almost 20 yrs later!)

Disappointed fan! | 9/30/2008, 10:48 am EST

Wow! Joey thanks alot! I’ve been a fan since ‘88 my first ever concert was seeing you guys in 1990.

This band was a huge part of my music life for years…and when I heard about this reunion I was estatic! So far I’ve been to 4 shows and 3 more to go to. I’ve met you 2 weeks ago in Toronto you were nice (or was that you being fake)? I can’t believe that comment you made it made me soooo angry that you lost my respect forever… only you (I am a Donnie girl) I have nothing against the other guys.

Seriously Joe keep you mouth shut!!!! you never knew what to say in interviews anyway! let Donnie do all the talking :)

I think that Joe should get a pay cut from all the money that they made here….is there a petition???!!!

NKOTB forever minus Joe!

Jessica | 9/30/2008, 11:31 am EST

This is blown completely out of proportion! Granted, it wasn’t exactly the most considerate comment, but artists always say the crowd they’re performing to is the best.
Furthermore, if they really truly felt that Canada was just a “warm up”, would there be more shows coming later this fall? I’ve got a ticket to Calgary’s show in November and am looking forward to them having their act nice and polished after all those US shows.
Really, who cares? They were huge 20 years ago and it’s time everyone saw this for what it is: another group to jump on the reunion bandwagon. I’m certainly not complaining and I’m ridiculously excited for the show, but let’s get some perspective. This would have made no difference to our impressionable minds when we were starstruck 10 year olds, so why does anyone care now? Appreciate it for what it is: an opportunity to dance down memory lane and shriek like adolescents.

Ottawa Girl!! | 9/30/2008, 3:21 pm EST

Come on guys and girls!! It didn’t really mean about the comment. I am not insulted and I have been fans of the New Kids 20 years. Leave him alone. Don’t listen to the media they like to blow things and make a big scene about it and half of the time its all bullshit!! Joey don’t worry us canadians fans love you . New Kids on the block rules.!!!

Kiki | 10/1/2008, 4:06 pm EST

I was at all 3 Toronto shows! and they were awesome :) His comment was taken out of context and who really cares…T.Dot can claim fame for the fact that we are the only city with 3!! sold out shows and we have a petition going for a 4th show for them to end their tour in Toronto…NKOTB Toronto girls will always love you!! Donnie I still want more face time :-)

Seriously? | 10/1/2008, 10:06 pm EST

Are you kidding me? You guys are all acting too pathetic. He did not even say anything rude. Damn cannucks acting so sensitive. Give me a break….. HE SAID IT WAS A WARM UP BECAUSE LITERALLY, IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY PERFORMED ON STAGE IN A PACKED COLISEUM! It is the first time in a year they have not been in a locked rehearsal studio. It is sad you cannot see what he meant.

And for the fan that wanted to know why anyone cares about them: it is a little ironic to me that you are on here saying who cares. Weird that you took the time to google them and come on here and even leave a comment. Maybe you should stop hating or just admit that they are back for a reason.

Mila | 10/2/2008, 8:19 am EST

OK! People listen! You have no idea how much the media can take your words and blow them completely out of porportion! Honestly, Do you really think Joey would actually want to make all these people so upset?! No, of course not! So please, try to understand from his point of view, I guarantee he did not mean any of it and that he was only trying to explain how his home town meant to him.

Cry Me a River | 10/6/2008, 5:57 pm EST

Geez, some people really need to stop being so sensitive. EVERY artist says that the city they’re in is his/her favorite one to perform in. Some of you act as though you’ve never been to a concert before. I’ve seen several artists in several different cities, and they all say that the audience is the best so far on tour. And somehow I managed to not be offended on my hometown’s behalf.

Just calm the hell down, or get rid of your tickets if you are this thin-skinned. I’m sure some other person who doesn’t start whining at the drop of a hat will appreciate them.

Janice | 10/7/2008, 12:01 pm EST

i was at tne NKOTB concert in Montrreal…awesome. Did not like Joey,s comment either. I am origonally from Boston… you,re hometown. How come your hometown did not have enough fan support to give you 3 sold out shows like Toronto Canada. Having lived in both countries..sorry to say Canada rules. Still love my hometown of Boston… but in Canada they treat people with respect.

Whatever | 10/9/2008, 11:00 am EST

To cry me a river, yes all artists say their hometown is their favorite place to perform, but they don’t insult the other cities or countries that they just performed in. That was very rude and completely uncalled for. And if the people who are insulted feel the need to voice that, then that is their perogative. In the end what Joey said was wrong. Personnally I don’t care if he prefers his hometown to other cities that’s his right, but when he says we were just the rehearsal a place to get the kinks out, well that’s just not right.

Mike | 10/9/2008, 1:19 pm EST

You Canadians are a bunch of babies crying like this. Are you being serious?

Dude, I have been to alot of concerts and all the artists say “You are the best” or something along those lines.

You guys need to chill

DJH | 10/11/2008, 10:45 pm EST

Joey McIntyre told Rock Daily, “Canada was a warm-up” He’s right, they were a warm-up to the best all boy band to visit Canada The BSB. Thanks for getting us ready! By the way, if Joey voiced these same comments about the US all the people here calling us Canadians whiners would, in true american fashion, sue his ass.
