Former blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, 32, and celebrity DJ Adam “AM” Goldstein, 35, suffered extensive burns after the plane they were traveling in crashed during takeoff from a South Carolina airport Friday night (September 19th) at 11:53 p.m. The Learjet 60 — a twin-engine, private plane that was heading to California — overran the end of the runway, plowed through a fence and continued onto a road, causing a significant fire. The four other passengers were killed, including the pilot and co-pilot. According to MTV News, the other two casualties include Barker’s assistant, 29-year-old Chris “Little Chris” Baker, and his security guard, 25-year-old Charles Still. Barker and DJ AM escaped the blaze and are currently being treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia. The pair had just performed at at a free T-Mobile-sponsored show at Columbia’s Five Points shopping district with Perry Farrell and Gavin DeGraw; they recently teamed up as part of the house band at MTV’s VMAs.

UPDATE: According to the doctor attending Barker and AM, both received second and third degree burns but are expected to make a full recovery. Remarkably, they did not sustain any other injuries in the crash.

Maybe this will bring Blink back together

Tragic and Terrible | 9/20/2008, 1:54 pm EST

Our hearts and prayers go out to all involved.

Bella Couture | 9/20/2008, 2:12 pm EST

Extremely Tragic… My family and friends are praying for everyone aboard. Travis even has children. He’s a father… and DJ AM is such a nice guy, he’s a friend of a friend. Both truly great guys with big giving hearts… We hope they will pull out of this… I feel so sorry for their families. My staff is in horrified disbelief… So hard to believe… My close friend told me that DJAM was reported as stable… but my friend just called me and said that those reports were not true. DJ am is not stable. Both are in critical condition. Both Travis & DJAM fell out of the crashed plane on the highway right before it hit the embankment. DJ ADAM with burns to his face and Travis is burned from the waist down. Both Travis & DJAM somehow were on the highway and a passerby saw that they were both rolling around attempting to distinguish themselves because they were screaming and their bodies (because of the gasoline) were on fire. So sorry to be so graphic. The passerby was able to ask both if there were any other people and they both said yes, 4…but the plane was engulfed in flames and nothing could be done for the other four that is why they died. People tried to help them….I just though people/fans might like to know what I know. PLEASE PRAY FOR THEM! PLEASE!

Love everyone at,

We are all pulling for you!!!!

Rock stars..... | 9/20/2008, 2:58 pm EST

Mikel K Poet | 9/20/2008, 3:30 pm EST

The near Buddy Holly event of today. Weird how the two famous guys survived. God bless them all.

Browny83 | 9/20/2008, 4:18 pm EST

i was a big blink fan growing up, hope both guys recover, and r.i.p. the rest of the guys on the plane

Chris M. | 9/20/2008, 4:49 pm EST

I saw Trav play drums perfectly while hobbling around on crutches with a broken foot.. he’s gunna pull through. He’s full of spirit.

god bless all in this tragedy.

Chris M. | 9/20/2008, 4:51 pm EST

I saw Trav play drums perfectly using his other foot while hobbling around on crutches with a broken one.. He’s gunna pull through. He’s full of spirit. One of the most down to earth and genuine rockers I ever met..

god bless all in this tragedy. Prayers are with you..

Actually.... | 9/20/2008, 5:07 pm EST

….the near Buddy Holly event of the “rock generation” was the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash. That and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s helicopter.

So basically | 9/20/2008, 5:11 pm EST

they saved themselves and watched the little people die. Great.

Not cool | 9/20/2008, 5:36 pm EST

“So basically | 9/20/2008, 5:11 pm EST

At what point were they supposed to help – while being ejected from a moving plane onto the road, or while being on fire themselves? Grow up dude and have some sympathy, being famous has nothing to do with this.

Tiffany | 9/20/2008, 5:37 pm EST

I live 5 mins from the airport where Travis and DJ AM nearly lost their lives and 4 others on their jet did. My heart goes out to all the families, friends, and fans. I heard the loud noise of what I thought was a jet plane over my house. Later I find out today that it was still at the airport and that it was crashing is what I heard. This deeply saddens me to see such young lives and great musicians in a tragic turn of events.

fuck travis barker. | 9/20/2008, 5:52 pm EST

hahahahahaha

So basically | 9/20/2008, 5:55 pm EST

I am COOLER THAN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PILLOW, BAY-BEE!!! Being famous could have had everything to do with it! How do you know? They could have POSSIBLY thought of themselves first! That’s human nature, big boy! I don’t really hold it against them all THAT much. Youre right, maybe I was a little harsh. I would do the same if I just had a couple of hangers-on and/or ancillary employees in the plane. They’re always expendable. And who knows? There’s gotta be at least one more reality show borne from this horrible tragedy.

Good Life | 9/20/2008, 6:00 pm EST

“They Saved Themselves”

I don’t know if you understood that these two guys were ejected from an aircraft moving at take off speeds, burning alive in jet fuel, and numerous other injuries! You are a dipshit for posting that pal! These guys need support not bashment!

Wow | 9/20/2008, 6:21 pm EST

BellaCouture. Incredibly tacky and insensitive to link your commercial website in this thread. Just not the time or place.

Thoughts and prayers to all the victims of this tragedy.

Just an observation | 9/20/2008, 6:23 pm EST

Sympathy is between shit and syphilis in the dictionary.

So Basically you're an idiot | 9/20/2008, 8:08 pm EST

If you’re like that in real life
I’m sure that there are no friends or neighbors
who would cross the road to piss on you,
if you were on fire.

David S. | 9/21/2008, 1:20 am EST

Thoughts to the folks whose lives were lost and hope the people injured recover. It’s about life and death in this case, not rock and roll or throwing insults on a message board.

Catherine in San Diego | 9/21/2008, 1:39 am EST

Get well wishes to Travis and DJ for a speedy recovery. Condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Prayers for all.

Jesus Quintana | 9/21/2008, 2:17 am EST

I’m glad Travis is ok, he’s a great drummer, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing DJ AM bite it.

Jack Bauer | 9/21/2008, 6:56 am EST

Jesus Quintana: “I’m glad Travis is ok”

He may be alive, but he “suffered extensive burns,” which could mean a long, painful recovery. “OK” is yet to be seen.

midevil | 9/21/2008, 8:13 am EST

How terrifying. May they have the strength to get through the long road to recovery.

alex | 9/21/2008, 10:46 am EST

oh fuck!! his tattoos!

Casey | 9/21/2008, 4:18 pm EST

Jesus Quintana,

Regardless of your feelings toward Adam, your comment about him was completely uncalled for. Just remember, karma has a strange way of biting you in the ass.

H. Bomb | 9/21/2008, 4:43 pm EST

Best of luck to TRV$DJAM in their recovery.

I know that Travis has said he lives to play the drums, so it’ll be interesting to see if it actually takes him a whole year to pull thru and get back behind that kit.

Colin in NJ | 9/22/2008, 10:18 am EST

How many people did they help get off the plane? Oh, only themselves.

Hole | 9/22/2008, 10:32 am EST

Def Leppard’s drummer prevailed…ummm sort of. yeah..he is screwed

This just in.... | 9/22/2008, 11:14 am EST

….thousands die in flood/monsoon/earthquake/hurri cane/AIDS epidemic…..oh wait, they aren’t famous. They dont deserve our sympathy or best wishes for a speedy recovery. Besides, they are in a Third World country. They don’t count. This is much more tragic.

Rs,

can you remove this forum for this story? People are disgustingly cruel.
thanks.

God has a weird sense of humor | 9/22/2008, 1:51 pm EST

Let me get this straight! Buddy Holly’s plan crashes and he dies,Stevie Ray Vaughns Helicopter crashes and he dies,Randy Roahdes Dies,Skynards plane crashes and praticually everyone dies. But a Douche Bag like Travis Barker lives? WTF Who knew god was a Blink Fan?

BLESSED | 9/22/2008, 3:32 pm EST

ALL THE NEGATIVE PEOPLE MAKING THOSE HORRIBLE COMMENTS ABOUT THESE SURVIVORS SHOULD BE ASHAME OF YOURSELFS. YOU SHOULD PRAY FOR THEM NOT JOKE ABOUT THE SITUATION,GET A LIFE. MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO ALL THE FAMILIES THAT LOST SOMEONE IN THAT CRASH.

dood | 9/22/2008, 3:51 pm EST

Well, Blink was a Christian band at one point. But not when Barker joined… oh well, extended karma.

cheryl | 9/22/2008, 4:02 pm EST

I can’t believe how people are saying despicable things about these survivors! I can’t say i’m a fan of either one but the same thing could happen to any of us or our loved ones! If you don’t have anything positive to say, do NOT say anything at all.

Ghostwritten | 9/22/2008, 4:07 pm EST

It’s easy for people to be cruel behind the veil of internet anonymity. Travis and AM are in the headlines because their talents and art have blessed and inspired many. Cowards who write negative comments about this accident are just that.

Four Nick Eight | 9/22/2008, 4:45 pm EST

By no means am I condoning making light of being injured in a plane crash, but ask yourself this…..when natural disasters occur halfway around the world, do you pray for the victims? I had to take a good hard look at myself after reading this thread and I didnt like my answer. Not one single thing makes them any more or less special than DJ AM and Travis Barker.

ted | 9/22/2008, 4:49 pm EST

Im a pro drummer and have been for 30 years, and I also teach. Blink 182 is a great pop rock band, and I know Travis Barker is a kick a$$ drummer!! and we all wish him and his family and the familys of the others the best.

vote for McPalin, they will see to it that your job will be sent overseas, your 401 will be raided, your home foreclosed, health care? who needs that when all you have to do is pray to god. stupid.

stupid Ghostwritten | 9/23/2008, 12:54 pm EST

and you calling others “cowards” and “cruel” isnt negative? you are guilty of the same thing you despise. stupid.

AngelLake | 9/23/2008, 6:52 pm EST

I Love Travis and DJ AM, but Its no way Travis and DJ AM was on that Jet at time of impact. Its obvious they jumped out of the Jet before it crashed and thank God they did. The question is why didnt the other two jump with them, they couldnt have been dead yet. I think they all where getting ready to jump and time ran out when they hit the road. I believe Travis and DJ either are to traumatized to remember and have created another scenario which explains why at first they say they got out the door which is impossible because the door disintergrated on impact, now they are saying they went off the right side wing. Im glad they survived but I can tell the way this is turning out the PR folks have gotten to them and they dont want to talk about what really happened, lots of counseling they will have to have.

i’m mailing from Africa (the other side of the world) and feel bad about those who passed on, not much of a rock fan but still hope those famous guys who survived get well soon!

hoping for the best | 9/29/2008, 2:35 pm EST

dude you people that are complaining that the victims of the crash are getting so much attention than disaster victims, your on crack. i pray for disaster victims and for anyone that needs help. so grow up and stop wishing the worst for these guys. i dont know much about dj am, but i know that travis barker rocks and you have no right to say bad things about him or say that people care more about this than any other disaster.

Ritchie Valens | 9/29/2008, 3:27 pm EST

Its amazing that the shittest musicians seem to have the most luck in airline crashes. Any other less vomit-worthy musician would have perished in a blink(182??). Look at me for example.

Damon perucich | 4/22/2009, 1:24 am EST

It did! We are lucky for it. Such an exceptional band should not waste time on petty feuds! Especially due to the fact that their last album “Blink-182″ was such an amazing breakthrough for them, launching their style to a completely different level.

To the idiots saying they were “ejected”

They saved themselves. Climbing out an escape hatch is not the same as being ejected. Maybe they could have saved someone else, I don’t know, but if they think they could have, they gotta life w/ that. I’m sure they didn’t push people into the fire, if your not whatever. On a side note, they really shouldn’t be perusing this civil suit against the pilots estates. Oh, damn, an accident where our pilots lost their lives, with the super rich surviving. LETS SUE!!!! (<- problem with [everyone else in] United states.)

Pilots earn less then McDonald managers.
