Earlier in the week, Rock Daily posted a letter sent anonymously from a comedian featured in the comedy issue, taking Rolling Stone to task over a number of aspects of the package. We asked the readers who they thought was responsible, and we got no shortage of varied responses back. The highlights are below.
• Reader Townes asked of our cover star “Letterman, is that you?
• Obviously thought the identity of the letter writer was clear: “This is David Cross. No question.”
• Both Bob and david thought the culprit might be Dane Cook.
• Others took the letter itself to task. Reader Flip a Coin? said “If this comic had any guts and really wanted to challenge the system he/she would have put their name on the letter. I smell a hypocrite!!! Meanwhile, One Funny Little Person wrote “I AM a NYC comic that works at the company. I take offense to that letter. You may have some point in theory, but you can’t bite the hands that are on the people that ultimately sit in your audiences.”
• Finally, several people thought the letter came from beyond the grave — including snark snark, who wrote “Obviously Bill Hicks, typing from the All-Star Comedy Club of the Universe. He’s in the issue in the sense that much current work derives from stuff he, George and Lenny did first.”
