“Guitar Hero” Makers Plan “DJ Hero,” Cross-Platform Mash-Ups

The makers of Guitar Hero have a new music game in the works, as DJ Hero might finally hit shelves next summer after two years of development. As the name suggests, DJ Hero feature a simplified plastic scratch deck instead of a mini plastic guitar to hit prompted cues. Whereas users follow a guitar’s neck on the screen for what notes to play, DJ will forecast its moves using the half-arc of a vinyl record on the screen. Part of the game’s long delay to stores — besides the inherent difficulties in getting the rights to sample-heavy hip-hop tracks — now appears to be Activision’s plan on making DJ playable with Guitar Hero gear, allowing users to create mash-ups between the rap and rock genres, which hopefully means playing along to the OJayZis mixtape is within our grasp.

I liked this when it was first called Beatmania by Konami. RedOctane and Activision seem to be ripping another idea off, just like the drums and mic from Rock Band.

You know why guitar hero is ripping off rock band cus one of the creators from guitar hero quit and made rock band so basically that idea was probably already in the making then that dick quit and wanted to get rich for himself and take the idea away from guitar hero. Soooo get your shit right.

To the dumbass that said Rock Band stole Guitar Hero.

No one at GH quit and went made a game called RB. HMX made GH 1,2, and rock the 80’s. Activision bought Red Octane and not HMX. So HMX made RB, which they pitched to activision and they said a full band game will never work. HA, man this just shows how stupid activision really is and how they stole RB from HMX, a company that they cast aside that is now whipping their ass.

Expect Konami to sue or file some sort of litigation. Although Beatmania only had one release in the US (which flopped pretty badly), Beatmania has been in heavy production in Japan since 1997, and has been the cornerstone of their Bemani music game series ever since.
