With the two nominating conventions in the past, a bunch of musicians are leading the charge to register voters and rally support for the candidates. Here’s a sampling:

Crow’s CD Giveaway
What It Is Sheryl Crow is giving a copy of her latest CD, Detours —with songs about environmental destruction, terrorism and the war in Iraq —to anyone who registers three friends to vote at rockthevote.com
What They Say “The idea behind this is to not only incentivize people to get their friends to vote but to create a dialogue about the issues.”

Crosby, Nash Tour Swing States
What It Is Folk-rock vets David Crosby and Graham Nash are planning a series of fundraising events for Obama (dates to be determined) in East Coast swing states.
What They Say “We desperately need a new direction, to undo the abominations of the Bush administration,” says Nash. “We need somebody like Obama.”

Hip-Hop Seeks Out Young Voters
What It Is T.I., Ludacris and Ne-Yo tour the country to educate potential young voters for two special episodes of 106 and Park that are scheduled to air in October.
What They Say “I have a fan base, and I can influence people’s votes,” says Ludacris. “I’m happy to see history being made.”

Deadheads for Obama
What It Is The surviving members of the Grateful Dead will reunite to support Obama in Pennsylvania on October 13th.
What They Say “I consider this my patriotic duty,” Bob Weir says of playing Obama rallies. “I think Americans have the ability to rediscover democracy.”

Death Cab for Cutie Go Back to College
What It Is A MySpace- and HeadCount-sponsored contest among colleges to see which can sign up the most voters. Death Cab will perform on the winning campus.
What They Say “This seems like a perfect way for us to help capitalize and score for the Obama campaign,” says Death Cab’s Chris Walla.

Rock the Vote Heads to Debates, Music Fests
What It Is Rock’s leading get-out-the-vote group will sponsor a music festival September 26th on the site of the first presidential debate, at the University of Mississippi, and late-night parties at Austin City Limits September 26th-28th.
What They Say “The important thing is that people take part in the democratic process,” says Pete Wentz, who played Rock the Vote’s DNC party. “But on a personal note, I am very stoked for Obama.”

They are not “getting out the Vote” they are “getting out the Democratic Vote”

the fact that Pete Wentz is “stoked” about Obama is just the reason I needed to vote AGAINST Obama…thanks dude

Why the hell would that stop you for voting for Obama? I don’t like Fall Out Boy at all, but this makes me like Pete Wentz a lot more.

And just because Obama has musicians rallying for him, while McCain has to steal songs to use (he’s been caught like 3 times), doesn’t mean this isn’t fair.

Agree 100% with ya Jungleland. Makes me know who not to vote for.

Notice how Ludicris attributes getting out the vote to HIS influence as opposed to getting out the vote for a greater good other than himself. No, not like a hip hop artist to be so vane!!

Anonymous | 9/15/2008, 10:59 am EST

Like Ludicris has a hand in history making, how vane

I wish the fricking hollywood elitist a*sholes would shut their trap and quit telling us how “stoked” they are for a certain candidate. It’s people like Pete Wentz and that stupid F*%$#$^& hip hop punk Diddy that make me cringe for the Democratic party. SHUT THE F#$% UP and stick to your music, as crappy as it may be, Mr. Wentz.

let me get this straight, people will be vote against a candidate because somebody else is voting for that same candidate? what happened to looking at where they stand on issues,or not worrying about what these musicians say (musicians that you say shouldn’t be listened to anyway)

Airhead | 9/15/2008, 1:32 pm EST

Wow – all those musicians are putting together concerts to get people to register and vote for Obama? Well golly I guess they can’t be wrong, I think I’ll vote for Obama!

Somewhere In The Middle | 9/15/2008, 3:55 pm EST

These musicians really do have delusions of grandeur if they think they are going to make that big of a difference. In 2004 they had close to 30 of the biggest names in music playing shows for John Kerry, and he still lost. Nobody gives a $hit who Sheryl Crow or T.I. (can he even vote with that conviction?) are going to vote for. Alice Cooper said it best “If you’re listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you’re a bigger moron than they are.”

mlittle | 9/15/2008, 4:10 pm EST

Yeah, like I want one of Sheryl Crow’s CD’s. Sign me up.

lordbean | 9/15/2008, 4:41 pm EST

Never before have I seen so many musicians side with the same pres. candidate. Obama not only has my vote, but also all the pop/rock artists that I can think of. Obama for the win!

steeldrum | 9/23/2008, 11:08 am EST

obama changes his “opinion” on issues more than i change my underwear!!! how can you vote for the guy? and just because ludicris, pete wentz, and every other musician in the world decide to vote democrout why should we?
this isn’t a popularity contest!!!
