Paul McCartney Promises Israel Show Will Go On Despite Outcry

9/12/08, 9:04 am EST

Despite demands from pro-Palestinian groups to cancel his return concert in Israel, Paul McCartney promises Israeli fans he’ll go on with his September 25th concert in Tel Aviv. “I was approached by different groups and political bodies who asked me not to come here. I refused. I do what I think, and I have many friends who support Israel,” McCartney said in an interview. The concert marks Macca’s first performance in Israel since the Beatles‘ cancelled concert in 1965, when the Israeli government thought the Fab Four would corrupt the nation’s youth. “The Beatles had a pretty positive influence on the world and only regimes that wanted to control their peoples were afraid of us. We mostly laughed at the Israeli government decision,” McCartney said. In other Beatles news, Hamburg, Germany has dedicated a city square to the band to commemorate the band’s time there in 1962. The square will feature steel statues of all four members of the Beatles, plus original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe.

In 1945, how was Israel “created”?

The Palestinian people are not terrorists. The Israelis are not terrorists. They are both groups of people that have been pit to perpetually war with one another, and in both cases government and militant factions are to blame; that being said there are people within government who are great people who want peace. It is ridiculous to say that the Palestinians are to blame, as they are under a system of checkpoints and military occupation that no person in our country could ever fathom (unless having lived through Apartheid, the Holocaust, or a war camp.) The Palestinians elect those who they believe will get them freedom, and these two freedom factions are divided into the militant (much like our government is made up of the militant minds) and the progressives. Many people want direct results and therefore pledge to Hamas, while Fatah is overlooked. In Israel, the people are not given media voice, but rather the media is controlled by those who would like Palestine to cease existing. The same is true of many government parties in Israel, but in fact the people of Israel would like a peaceful resolution and recognition of Palestine as a state. Until this happens, violence will continue. It is a multifaceted problem. Not one that is merely black or white. Anyone who approaches any world issue in this way is a complete idiot.

It is a shame that threats of suicide bombing have already been made against Paul McCartney for playing in Israel. He has every right to play music wherever he wants. Paul sets an excellent example by not kowtowing to Palestinian terrorists.

Paul has every right to perform wherever he wants to.
I just hope and pray that some NUT from the country that said he can’t go to Israel does not do something tragic like Hurt Paul in any way! These people need to learn the word “Freedom of choice!”

M,

Well said.

David S stands for Silverstein, I’m sure.

Silver and gold, hmmm……Silverstein, Goldstein, Goldfarb, Silverberg, Goldberg, Goldman, Silverman……no wonder. Don’t they get enough damn money from the U.S. propping up their regime?

McCartney is yesterday’s man and unrecognisable to himself today.

Being in the music business, Paul is no doubt friends with a lot of Zionists. Perhaps he hasn’t even heard the Palestinian side of the story. If he did, perhaps he would change his tune. Maybe he could dust off “Give Ireland Back to the Irish” and rechristen it “Give Palestine Back to the….” you know. Christ, I’m listening to that song NOW and I CAN’T BELIEVE PAUL CAN’T SEE THE TERRIBLE IRONY IN HIS ACTIONS!
