R.E.M. has been hit with the stolen equipment epidemic, as Peter Buck’s signature guitar was taken from the stage following a gig in Helsinki, Finland. The band is asking for information about the whereabouts and offering a reward for the black Rickenbacker 360 guitar, which Buck has used periodically since the band’s debut Chronic Town EP. “This instrument means a great deal to Peter and to R.E.M. It is our sincere hope that whoever is responsible for the loss, or whoever has information which can help recover the guitar, will come forward to receive a generous reward, no questions asked,” the band’s spokesperson said. Head on over to the band’s official site for photos of the stolen instrument and more information on how to contact them if you know anything regarding its whereabouts. R.E.M. has become the latest victims of equipment theft after the Stooges‘ entire equipment truck was pillaged after a concert in Montreal.
