Following Sunday night’s onstage assault of Oasis’ Noel Gallagher, the guitarist was taken to a hospital where an examination revealed he suffered a suspected fractured rib and ligament damage. During the band’s Toronto Virgin Festival-closing set on Sunday night, Gallagher was pushed from behind by 47 year old Daniel Sullivan, who was promptly restrained and arrested. The band took a short break following the attack but returned to finish their set before Gallagher made his way to the hospital. As for Sullivan, he was arrested and charged with assault. As of right now, Oasis’ show in London, Ontario tonight is expected to go on as scheduled.

Update: Due to Gallagher’s injuries, the band has postponed tonight’s show in London, Ontario after doctors advised Gallagher to rest. Tickets for tonight’s show will be honored at the makeup concert, date to be announced soon.

Oasis are very good but they aren’t any better than Nirvana was; also it is simply a fact that their output has been pretty weak since WTSMG; about 1 or 2 good songs on each album. Noel Gallagher probably gives the funniest interviews in pop music though. I think that historically the UK has slightly better bands but groups like The Doors, Beach Boys, Allman Brothers, Steely Dan, REM, and Nirvana are nothing to sneeze at either, not to mention recent groups like the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and Kings of Leon. Also America has by far the best individual acts; Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Paul Simon. One thing I’ve discovered is that English people aren’t capable of posting anything on the internet, no matter what the topic, without saying “Americans don’t get irony” or some other insulting idiocy. It’s crazy how obsessed English people are with America, despite being ridiculously uninformed!

First of all who ever wrote the last comment does not know much of Oasis…First of all Oasis less selling record was SOTSOG and sold 700,000 in UK making it double platinum and 3 million albums worldwide. There last album DBTT sold 1,000,000+ in the UK making it triple platinum and 6 million records worldwide. Oh by the way they reach #12 in Billboard US..Not bad from a band that is not innovative huh!!! Its clear to say that yeah Oasis are not as popular in the US as in the 90’s but over the world there still known as a very influencial band who has sold 50 million album’s worldwide. An inspired bands as the Killer’s, Ryan Adams & Sum 41..And by the way I’m not from the UK

This was in Canada not USA | 9/10/2008, 12:05 pm EST

to “Jones”- for your comment -”Perhaps you should get on to Reality TV tonight for 5 or 6 hours…the next American Idol might produce a great band.” Funny you should mention this since American Idol was originally “Pop Idol” in Britain and brought here by your boy Simon. Also, pretty funny that Rihanna and even Miley Cyrus are currently in the UK top 10 album charts. Both Oasis and Radiohead have claimed that Kings of Leon are the best rock band in the world right now so you may want to give them a try. America loved Oasis back in the 90s when they were making innovative music, but the last couple of albums have bombed not only here but in the UK as well. As for the VMAs, the only people in America who watch that are teenage girls so you know more about who performed there than I do. I am all for paying homage to the Beatles but the difference with the Beatles and Oasis is that the Beatles music was continually evolving and changing where as Oasis hasn’t really done anything different. I will buy there new album and have had enough blabbering on this page so hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised by their new stuff. Still don’t get why everyone is going on about USA when this happened in Canada! LOL

Noel’s behavior and comments have really sparked an internal conflict within me. I’ve been listening to Morning Glory since I was just a kid riding around in the car with my mom, and obviously I’ve been in love with it ever since. With the recent immature comments about bands like Radiohead and Jay-Z though, I’m almost glad people are screwing with these guys during their live performance. Obviously I would never actually condone such behavior, but I almost wanna say they had it coming.

Jay Fullmer, 38, yesterday became the first American to get to grips with the concept of irony.

“It was weird” Fullmer said. “I was in London and like, talking to this guy and it was raining and he pulled a face and said, “Great weather eh?” and I thought - “Wait a minute, no way is it great weather”.

Fullmer then realised that the other man’s ‘mistake’ was in fact deliberate.

Fullmer, who is 39 next month and married with two children, aged 8 and 3, plans to use irony himself in future.

“I’m, like, using it all the time” he said. “Last weekend I was grilling steaks and I burned them and I said “Hey, great weather”

Paul Schfield | 9/10/2008, 8:06 am EST

Get well Noel.

I love what I hear from theie new album and would love them to do a proper arena tour.

I just hope oasis don’t get put off now. America is starting to wake up to this brilliant band so I hope they don’t through it all away and return to the UK, never to set foot on these shores again.

Andrew the English bloke | 9/10/2008, 5:18 am EST

(Yep a genuine Limey, living in not-so-exotic Norwich)…

Anyway, i agree w/ you Kinman 100%……mostly, we love all the large US bands over here.

livebythesea | 9/10/2008, 3:08 am EST

A message to Rolling Stone. Put Oasis on the front cover!

tbonespop | 9/9/2008, 11:00 pm EST

I love all of the “my band/country is better than your band/country” discussion. None of you will change anybody’s mind with 2 (maybe 3!) sentences about The Beatles…either direction you go.

But at the end of the day it comes to the music and Oasis deliver it in spades. Rock and roll exists in a context not too far removed from sporting events these days with everyone feeling they need to pick a side. I pick…music, and Oasis does it better than any band out there. Get well, Noel!

Sez Who? | 9/9/2008, 10:03 pm EST

I’m so tired of everybody and their ass monkey getting into pissing contests about who’s the best band in the world. Hey all you pretentious assholes, here’s a newsflash: music tastes are subjective. Get the hell over yourselves.

Manilo | 9/9/2008, 9:22 pm EST

The guy should have pushed Liam instead so that would have forced Noel to finally go solo and send Liam into obscurity where he belongs. Noel is cool and funny, Liam is just a talentless pretending little bitch. How funny was it when he started acting tough after the guy was restrained.

kinman | 9/9/2008, 7:54 pm EST

For the most part Americans and Brits agree that each others bands are awesome. US appreciates The Who, Led Zep, Radiohead, etc.. UK appreciates Van Halen, Pearl Jam, RHCP. And of course America loves the Beatles. But as an American, I can honestly say I do not like Oasis, albums are okay, and the live show was annoying, all sounded like distortion.

Our Kid | 9/9/2008, 7:52 pm EST

Oasis are the best in the world.
If you don’t like it, go buy the new Jonas Brother’s record, I’m sure that’ll be the soundtrack for a generation.

Jones | 9/9/2008, 7:51 pm EST

John Harkes Hair’s comment that, “the US does represent the world and it is the epicentre of modern culture.”

Are you kidding me????

So the epicentre of modern culture is the Jonas Brothers, morbidly obese majority population, America’s Next Top Model, American Idol and Big Brother Season 75?

Someone please send a Renassaiance if this is the truth.

Jones | 9/9/2008, 7:41 pm EST

“This was in Canada not USA”’s post saying, “Oasis is a good band, not a great band,” is absolutely ridiculous. Who’s great, The Red Hot Chili Peppers (not), Motley Crue (not), Guns and Roses (not). Listen, get off the butt rock tip and listen to some proper tunes. Telling someone to, “Get over paying homage to the Beatles,” is like telling a kid to, “Get over Disneyworld.”

America’s been asleep at the wheel with respect to good UK music for a long time. The VMA’s are proof positive that the palette of the music listeners in this country is rife with the taste of ridiculosity.

Perhaps you should get on to Reality TV tonight for 5 or 6 hours…the next American Idol might produce a great band.

Rock n roll star | 9/9/2008, 6:30 pm EST

The reason oasis are great is because they dont give a shit about anybody ,sure they may piss off a few people, but that just makes them rock even more. If only people in america realised how good they are they’d be bigger then the beatles.

This was in Canada not USA | 9/9/2008, 5:58 pm EST

Funny to me how all the comments are about Oasis coming to America and this happened in Canada. Did anyone read the story? Oasis is a good band, but they are not great. A great band is someone who could not go on with losing any members. A few years back Oasis toured with Liam and were possibly better (he is the one who should have been pushed). Plus they need to get over trying to be the Beattles.

Bronson | 9/9/2008, 5:47 pm EST

Bronson | 9/9/2008, 5:04 pm EST

PS- I could name truly amazing US acts by the hundreds, John Harkes’ Hair. I’m not gonna waste my time telling you about all these great bands. You’ll just have to find them on your own! Oh No!!!

Bronson | 9/9/2008, 4:50 pm EST

Who the fvck are Chris Brown and Weezy? “Do you realize the 5 greatest bands ever are English?” Yes, i did MANCHESTER, and thank you for your well thought out retort. Did i EVER say U.S. music is crap? Did i EVER say UK music is crap? Not once. I was simply stating that bands that are huge there, when touring here, find themselves playing in smaller venues (seeing as they don’t have the same following here, yet). MY response was to the brits who were saying “leave the US alone, come back here, we appreciate you, etc.” Also, MANCHESTER huh? Live in America? Wish you were somebody else, do ya?

Four Nick Eight | 9/9/2008, 4:06 pm EST

The best active band out there is Irish, and they are about to prove why again. Oasis has put out a couple of underrated albums since Be Here Now. This one should be good too. But no one does it quite like U2. For all the GagBros’ pompousness and loutishness and boorishness, they look up to U2 still. Ain’t nothin wrong with that.

MANCHESTER | 9/9/2008, 3:51 pm EST

Bronson, I’m from America and I think you sound like an idiot. Do you realize the 5 greatest bands ever are English, and America gets good music about a year after the entire world. Go rock out to Chris Brown and Weezy.

stoooge | 9/9/2008, 3:41 pm EST

Im not the biggest fan of Oasis, but they are a lot better than some of the dumbed-down U.S. rock bands that still whine about getting their asses kicked by their parents. At least Oasis has substance to their music. Most U.S. bands lack a lot of that. They are also better than a super-washed up frontman with a weave that not only takes a decade to release craptacular tunes, but needs to suck on pure oxygen every other song just to survive a live show, and some people wanna rag on noel for getting a broken rib from a cheap-ass push from behind and after 10 mins he continued till the show was over. If you’ve ever been in a fight, you’d know that a broken rib, even a fractured rib is no fun. If that happened to Axl, he probably would have crapped his pants or had a heart attack.

H. Bomb | 9/9/2008, 3:37 pm EST

This was staged.

John Harkes' Hair | 9/9/2008, 3:19 pm EST

Bronson, me ol’ chum, I see what you mean about a band not ‘making it’ until they crack the U.S, after all the U.S does represent the world and it is the epicentre of modern culture but please would you remind me, who are America’s biggest band?

Feel free to get back to me in your own time, cheers big-ears,

mwah x

America doesnt appreciate much real music these days… Oasis have all the right elements which make them an excellent rock band… Not like this MTV youth culture product marketing garbage. Cheers to RS to still covering good music for the most part….Get well Noel.

You whinny little UK fvcks. When will you learn you aint made it till you make it in the USA? I love it when your biggest bands (playing sold out, unintimite arenas) come over here for a go and play small clubs, where we can meet them after and be right up against the stage and truly feel the experience (like the several time i’ve seen KOL here in the states). Suck it, tea drinkers. Have fun at the O2.

Amanda | 9/9/2008, 1:37 pm EST

I agree with you. AXL is the best.
I’m sure Chinese Democracy will rock!
Oasis are a cheap pub pop/rock band: “So Sally can wait/ She knows is too late”…Please!!

Lucy G. | 9/9/2008, 1:31 pm EST

Axl is the best frontman of all time. Noel is a old rude man. Besides, I loved when he wears that shorts with their parts almost visible. Arrr!

Ramito | 9/9/2008, 1:28 pm EST

The diference between Noel G. and Axl Rose is that Axl used to attack the audience. Noel is pushed, falls and breals bones.

hey dickbag…let me push you from behind without warning into a concert monitor and see how you make-out.

thick-headed tool.

H. Bomb | 9/9/2008, 12:36 pm EST

I saw the video of the incident… How the hell did the guitarist suffer a fractured rib off that measly little kiddy-push?

Seriously, I think it’s time to start taking some calcium tablets, Noel!

oasisfan1 | 9/9/2008, 12:32 pm EST

Oasis is one of my top 3 favorite bands, and I live in the U.S. I don’t understand why they are not bigger here, but there are plenty of people who want to see them perform here. I don’t know why the UK people are so snobby about them. They play 90% of their concerts there. Let them roam free a bit.

Brett | 9/9/2008, 12:20 pm EST

Richard, this wasn’t a small club, it was 30-40 000 people at a festival.

Tim Tillyer | 9/9/2008, 11:53 am EST

Idiot attacked the wrong Gallagher.

Hey Now. | 9/9/2008, 11:22 am EST

what a dick that guy is…how ’bout you try not pushing him from behind and see how tough you really are?

Cool Breeze | 9/9/2008, 11:14 am EST

What’s a 47 year old doing at an Oasis concert anyway? The guy should be at a Neil Diamond or Cher concert, not Oasis. No wonder he pushed Noel. He’s got mental problems - probably didn’t know what concert he was at.

whatever | 9/9/2008, 10:56 am EST

Oasis are way overrated. you can keep them in UK, we’ve got better bands to listen to over here.

Richard Johnson | 9/9/2008, 10:36 am EST

I always worry about oasis in America. They don’t get them or irony.

Noel leave it alone come back to the UK and play stadiums, not in fron t of crazy people in small clubs, You deserve better and WE want to see you play.

oasisfan1 | 9/9/2008, 10:12 am EST

and people wonder why oasis doesn’t like coming to north america. PLEASE DO AN AMERICAN TOUR! PLEASE!
