In an effort to move in further on Apple’s market share, Microsoft revealed some upgrades for its Zune music player. First, the line expanded to include a 120-gig player. Additionally, Zune users will now be able to buy and download music onto their Zune from any WiFi hotspot. Another upgrade allows users to “tag” songs they hear on the Zune’s FM receiver. From there, you can download the song from a hotspot. Other updates include genre-specific playlists programmed by music critics, software that introduces new music to the user and a new online music social network called Zune Card. All upgrades are expected to go live on September 16th for all new and existing Zunes.

Why doesn’t Microsoft just admit defeat and bury these things once and for all? I don’t know anyone who owns one.

i own a 1st gen one and its great. the software is great and easy to use. and if you have an xbox 360 you can sync all your songs/videos/pics to it or just play them from the zune directly!

I own one and I like the Zune a lot. I only have an ipod shuffle to compare it to but I think the Zune is just fine for me!!

The Zune is a superior product. I know many people who own both iPODs & Zunes, and all prefer their Zune. The people who make “bury these things once and for all” comments live in a tiny iPOD only world. I will say one thing, Microsoft needs to get it’s act together and provide competitive content on their marketplace site. I am getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of comparative availability of TV & movie video content not available for Zune.
