We read so many stories about rappers missing court dates that when an emcee actually makes it to court, it surprises us. Especially under these circumstances: Mere hours after Lil Wayne performed two songs, won an award and nearly lost his pants at last night’s VMAs in Los Angeles, Weezy left the after parties in order to board a coast-to-coast plane in time for his court date in New York City today. Wayne was due in court today to face charges of weapons possession after police found a .40 caliber pistol on his tour bus following an NYC show in July ‘07. To put into perspective just how amazing it is that Wayne made it to court under his post-VMAs circumstances, the rapper recently missed a similar court date in Yuma, Arizona because of an “emergency dental problem.”
