Listen to AC/DC’s “Rock N Roll Train”

8/28/08, 9:00 am EST

AC/DC’s “Rock N Roll Train,” the first single from their upcoming Black Ice, is set to debut on radio stations today. Or, if you don’t feel like waiting patiently for your DJ to air it, you can just click play on the video above. The song sounds like trademark AC/DC, proving the band still knows how to rock 35 years into their career. While not as tenacious as the band’s “Stiff Upper Lip” single from eight years ago, “Train” is a lot more melodic and, thankfully, much better than those YouTube fan clips that came out last week. Expect a music video for the song in the near future. Black Ice, the band’s first album in eight years, is due out in Wal-Marts on October 20th.

This song sounds like every other AC/DC song ever created.

Comfort Inn | 8/28/2008, 10:17 am EST

I’ve always liked ACDC, but why the big deal, same formula works for them, make millions go on home.

Felipe | 8/28/2008, 10:19 am EST

AC/DC is like The Ramones. You don´t expect them to play folk, you want them to play old AC/DC style Rock n Roll, and this song is a good example of that. Great Malcom´s riff and amazing Angus solo. Brian´s voice sounds good. So is the album is as good as this song the waiting should be worth it. Please AC/DC come to Chile on your world tour.

Megatron1 | 8/28/2008, 10:32 am EST

I liked the song. Thought it was great! These guys know what works for them and don’t try to be or do something their not. Their sound hasn’t changed one bit in the last 30 years but it’s still great to here just a straight up rock song today, cause there ain’t that many bands keeping it real.

Premature Junk | 8/28/2008, 10:36 am EST

It’s quite sad that a group of men in their mid-50’s can’t find anything more meaningful and substantial to write about…

My kids have more maturity than these guys, and they are in elementary school.

George Martin | 8/28/2008, 10:37 am EST

Same ol’ same ol’…and that’s exactly why I – and everyone else that’s a fan – love ‘em!

Defender of the Faith | 8/28/2008, 10:38 am EST

Which is exactly what I want to hear from them.

David | 8/28/2008, 10:41 am EST

I love the song fucking great!!!!!!!

The Jake Man | 8/28/2008, 10:55 am EST

ACDC… OH YA..Rock and Roll that’s what it’s all about. Just put your ears close to the speakers…MAN and TURN IT UP !!!. Way to go boys !!.Great song.

The Jake Man.

Willie | 8/28/2008, 10:56 am EST

I think some of you folks have been carrying wood for too long on this one. Just because it’s been eight years, doesn’t mean it’s the best you ever had, knowhatimean?

This band is tired, old and out of ideas, and this “single” proves it. Face it; it might be formulaic AC/DC, but methinks the ingredients are going bad.

Wal-Mart can keep it.

The sensibility of a fallen desire.

The long vigils

with a fine

even that sunshine
invites me to cry
near the sound
of a finger: I dream
you my dear,
I remember your

Joe | 8/28/2008, 12:12 pm EST

It’s funny, all the songs on Back in Black sound the same and that album is regarded as a classic.

stargell79 | 8/28/2008, 12:12 pm EST

……and it’s better than anything on alt rock stations and hip hop stations. I feel sorry for this generation…..mope rock and songs about bitches and ho’s. Sad….

Bryce | 8/28/2008, 12:21 pm EST

I think it rocks. You hear all these other old “rockers” with new songs and they suck. They went from hard rock n roll to easy listening. “relax to the mellow sounds of The Rain”. Not for me. thanks AC/DC for showing us what real Rock n Roll should sound like and Rock n Roll will never die.

Sig | 8/28/2008, 12:22 pm EST

Just what I expected, and WANTED. Welcome back to the gang.

Angus’s guitar and Brian’s vocals are great to hear out front again, with the backup punch of the rest of the boys.

Class is in session at rock and roll high school for today’s bands – musicality, simplicity, power, and good times.

Respect your teachers.

Rock on!

Dan H (HUGE AC/DC Fan) | 8/28/2008, 12:26 pm EST

This song rules!!! AC/DC has done it again! If this song is that good, I can’t imagine how good Black Ice will be, or if they’re gonna kick ass on their world tour.

Marshall Young | 8/28/2008, 12:40 pm EST

I think that this resembles more of the Highway to Hell album material than previous Johnson material. The pop orient of post Back N Black material is definitely present, but on second listen I think it’s a fine song for a great band that defines rock and roll. We’ll see how it translates live….

Hard Luck Child | 8/28/2008, 12:40 pm EST

To me, the new single sounds great. Obviously, they aren’t going to top what they did on “Back In Black”. AC/DC has written the same song for more than three decades. What do you guys expect? The guy who said they are like the Ramones is 100% correct.

Peeps | 8/28/2008, 12:46 pm EST

Hey Francesco, what does your little gibberish there have anything to do with the new AC/DC tune? You’re on the wrong website dude.

The Dude | 8/28/2008, 12:51 pm EST

Badass!! I absolutely love it! A rocking song with a smokin’ backbeat, long live AC/DC!!!

Anonymous | 8/28/2008, 12:55 pm EST

I know I’ll get murdered for this but Phil Rudds’s drumming seems very plodding since he re-joined. Love his early stuff with DC but I think they should have kept Chris Slade.

Problem Child | 8/28/2008, 1:20 pm EST

The song is great!! For all the haters on this post that want something different, go listen to Panic at the Disco or coldplay cause you clearly don’t know or appreciate what rock n roll sounds like at its purist…….Can’t wait to get my hands on Rock Band 2 so I can jam out to “Let there be Rock”!!!! Awesome!

Petty Fan | 8/28/2008, 2:05 pm EST

Hope they release it on vynil – its the ONLY way to listen to ACDC!!

bruce hinely | 8/28/2008, 2:07 pm EST

yeah—thats why we love ACDC-they dont follow trends–go listen to COLDPLAY-and all that other depressing shit-thats out-

Mike | 8/28/2008, 2:17 pm EST

Problem Child…the “haters” don’t want something different, they want something good. there is good ac/dc and bad ac/dc. its all the same type of rock, but not everything by this band is good. quit being a crybaby.

guitars rule | 8/28/2008, 2:27 pm EST

I agree with Mike. I love AC/DC but I don’t like EVERYTHING they’ve done. Its just how it is. I tend to enjoy AC/DC when it makes me think “wow, that’s cool, I really like how they did that!” Like the groovy bass line in Love Hungry Man or the subtle difference in what Malcolm and Angus are playing in Moneytalks and Get it Hot. Rock N Roll Train is ok. Pretty much what I expected from them. Nothing stood out, all old ideas. Is it as good as Bon Scott AC/DC? No. Is it Back in Black good? No. That’s ok, though because its just AC/DC doing what they do and I will buy the album and see them in concert!

across the universe | 8/28/2008, 2:55 pm EST

wow, this song is a little weak. I hope there are going to be some more songs with a little more aggression. This song in particular reminds me of the way I felt after I saw “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” if that makes any sense. Icon’s just going through the motions to make us happy. I’m happy but…come on dudes.

JP | 8/28/2008, 3:04 pm EST

I was hoping AC/DC will at least get back to their last high point of “The Razor’s Edge”. (It’s too unrealistic to expect another “Back In Black” or “Highway To Hell” from them.) However, the song just sounds uninspired. Actually, the drums was the only thing that kept me interested. The lyrics was just I was afraid of when I heard the album is going to be distributed by Walmart. It was such a pale imitation of the usual raunchy AC/DC lyrics. The guitars lack the usual chrunch that you expect from them.

I am big AC/DC fan. Unless, I hear something better than this song from the album. I think I’m going to pass on getting this album.

Rickie | 8/28/2008, 3:14 pm EST

This song is better than anything that has come out in the last 8 years. PURE ROCK N ROLL.

Little funny elephant | 8/28/2008, 3:25 pm EST

At looong last! After EIGHT years! *pouring a BIG glass of Stolichnaya* the only thing I’m concerned about is that we here in Mother Russia don’t have Wal-Marts….. I’m a happy man now

Holden Mcgroin | 8/28/2008, 4:01 pm EST

Just heard the new song on the local radio station(kick 107). It wasn’t too bad but i have to hear it again to be sure. Am glad for some new old rock again though.

Motorheads got a new record, and a new single called rock out.off the new album motorizer, why isn’t there a big headline for them?

Master P | 8/28/2008, 4:33 pm EST

This song (and band) is trash. Who the fuck keeps buying their music? It all sounds the same.

AC/DC = Walmart special. Always low prices. Always.

Sean | 8/28/2008, 4:58 pm EST

I’ve been listening to this over and over today and I think it’s great! I do however recommending going to their site and listening more than once. I listened to it on a Sirius broadcast which had less thtan stellar quality and was a little disappointed with the sound until I heard it clearly. Pure AC/DC man! Can’t wait to see them on tour!

LOL - Premature? | 8/28/2008, 5:33 pm EST

No, it’s quite sad that there are people who don’t even know the meaning of words like “premature”. Read your sentence and get a dictionary and then tell me if “premature” makes any sense in the context you used it. Talk about lack of maturity. You can’t even write.

pete | 8/28/2008, 8:38 pm EST

This is by far the best Guitar sound the lads have had since Highway to Hell,The last couple albums Guitar Tone didnt quite have it , but this sounds brilliant! Strongest ACCA song since The Razors Edge Album!!

Jake | 8/28/2008, 8:48 pm EST

How can anyone not like this?

This is already way better then Stiff Upper Lip and this isnt even the title track!

Brian sounds as good as he did in Razors Edge.

This song seems to have the same touch as their late 80’s material, Brians voice is great, they dont have such a bluesy type of beat more of the rock sound that they’ve been lacking in recent years.

Jim Raso | 8/28/2008, 10:39 pm EST

song sounds like filler material, not a lead single from a hyped album!

Cbzz | 8/29/2008, 12:12 am EST

this song sucks. i love ac/dc, but seriously, this song just sucks

Rickie | 8/29/2008, 12:31 am EST

If you love AC/DC you would love this song. Rock N Roll train is the best song in the last 8 years and im sure there is even better songs on the new cd Black Ice.

Fruit Toast | 8/29/2008, 1:01 am EST

To the guy with the motorhead question:

Because they haven’t sold 100 million frickin’ albums.

Rickie | 8/29/2008, 1:06 am EST

AC/DC have sold over 200 million albums worldwide.

M Chisholm | 8/29/2008, 1:26 am EST

All those out there who say ACDC sounds the same are correct. However they are the only band doing it (apart from Airbourne) so whilst in themselves they sound the same, compared to everyone else they are probably the most uniique band playing. And lets be honest here, if you love ACDC then you love their sound. If they change then they will sound just like everyone else and we all lose a little bit of what makes rock so good. As for the new single. Well I think that it’s much better than anything off their last two albums. Yep, it sounds like everything they have done in the last 35 years but it’s one of their better ones. Good chorus and a nice riff. Welcome back chaps.

Sean | 8/29/2008, 1:44 am EST

I have to add a question that’s been bugging me. Obviously it’s not the lyric, but I swear I keep hearing “dildo” in the second line of the song. Does anyone else notice this unfortunate soundalike? It reminds me of “get your wang stuck in your fly” on Sink the Pink.

Riffraff | 8/29/2008, 3:47 am EST

For all you people who are bagging AC/DC for being too old, or playing the same thing, i am very glad, because this song/album is not for you.

Ac/Dc are a great band because they arnt knob-heads like everyone else in RnR. They dont tell me their opinion on the Iraq war is, or make me feel bad for having a steak. They are a band and play music which is what they are good at.

So to all you doubters out there, go see them live, and then try and bag them for being too old or sticking to a formula. You might find it hard because it’ll kick ya up the arse and show what music is all about. Rock aint about posing.

Jake | 8/29/2008, 5:34 am EST

to Sean

When Brian Sings He says ” One Hot Angel, One Cool Devil”… not dildo…

swlabr3 | 8/29/2008, 6:28 am EST

AC/DC isn’t AC/DC without the signature swing of Phil Rudd. Chris Slade? He totally wacked out AC/DC Live and a potentially great song, Big Gun. Simon Wright?
Hello, Dio. A band is only as good as its drummer. That’s why Malcolm and Angus mended the fences and brought back Rudd.
The single is the (big) balls.

Sime | 8/29/2008, 8:26 am EST

Good song. Thank the Lord Brian is writing the lyrics again. Ballbreaker still makes me cringe…”Honey roll over and lettuce on top”…aarrghh!

Alejandro the Argentinian | 8/29/2008, 9:00 am EST

Sticky hard rock riffs, great bassline, ideal for singing when you’re taking the highway with car at 100mph. That’s what AC/DC it’s all about, that’s why we love them.

Jungleland2 | 8/29/2008, 2:32 pm EST

Riffraff – you are my hero! Great post

I picked up all of the AC/DC reissues from my local Wal-Mart this week (for like $7 each) and I am in freakin’ heaven. I expect a good if not great new record (as good as Dirty Deeds or Highway To Hell, I doubt it)and a KILLER concert this fall

Graham Carr | 8/29/2008, 9:45 pm EST

Great song! Best thing they’ve done in years. It rocks hard. Great dirty blues/Rolling Stones type riff. Reminds me of Keefs “Take it so hard”. Same feel. Hope the rest of the album is this good.

BADDOG | 8/29/2008, 10:47 pm EST

AC/DC rules and stuff….

ac/dc fan2345 | 8/30/2008, 10:35 am EST

Brian’s voice sounds a little better than in stiff upper lip. This song is typical Brian Johnson AC/DC. With Bon Scott, we had a little more variety. I think they could have done much better than this.

Nicolas from Argentina | 8/30/2008, 11:39 am EST

Great post Riff Raff.
I dont understand certain people…what are you expecting from AC/DC? A hip hop album? C’mon people!!! This is about feeling alive, I’ve seen them back in 96 in Buenos Aires, and I was so happy that I cant wait to feel the same again.
Thanks Angus, Malcom, Brian, Cliff & Phil one more time!!!!
Have a good one.

Francesco Sinibaldi | 8/30/2008, 3:58 pm EST

what are you listen to. the song sounds great, it all ready sounds better the stiff upper lip. if all songs sounds the same and that means that the style of music.

Jon | 8/31/2008, 1:28 am EST

I like this song,it has a steady beat. It’s acdc, get over it. I still like stiffupperlip a little more.favorite albums are: back in black, flick of the switch, stiffupperlip!!

acdc 4ever | 8/31/2008, 4:17 pm EST

JSTU | 8/31/2008, 10:05 pm EST

YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS AT WALMART??????? I LOST A LOT OF RESPECT TO AC/DC. SELLING OUT TO A CROOKED STORE LIKE WALMART IS JUST LOW.

BonScott | 9/1/2008, 1:41 am EST

this song is ok, nothing to be amazed at. im sure the strippers will dig it.

rockandroll | 9/1/2008, 2:49 am EST

KarmanJade | 9/1/2008, 3:58 am EST

I work at Walmart and I’ll be the first to tell you that the company sux ass!!!! But it’s a VERY popular retail store and it’s smart of AC/DC to sell there. I love them no matter what!!!!

dDub | 9/1/2008, 4:03 am EST

Awesome song!

Walmart sucks….
move on and party!

Mr. Levi | 9/1/2008, 12:37 pm EST

at least you never have to wonder which new direction this band’ll ever take. they are the waffle house of rock n roll and that’s a good thang. good tune. hopefully it’ll be a good album too. dont wanna hear no “best since Back In Black stuff” cause hopefully it’ll be at least a “best since Razor’s Edge” thats much more approachable i’d say.

Bob | 9/1/2008, 2:11 pm EST

AC/DC rocks
I saw them 1st at there Cow Palass
BacknBlack tour 1980. Now that was a concert with 3 oncores. I saw them again 10 years later. It was just as good. They definetly
know how to rock. Angus is a trip.

Dillard | 9/1/2008, 10:40 pm EST

Feel good rock and roll..thats what I’m talking about..If you can’t feel the beat you must be dead,,ROCK ON AC/DC!!!!

MAYBE AC/DC IS SELLING THERE NEW ALBUM AS WAL-MART ONLY, *SO ALL YOU CHEAP FUKS CAN GET IT FOR A LOW PRICE…INSTEAD OF BURNING (FREE) COPYS OFF THE INTERNET !!!

Snake. | 9/11/2008, 6:01 pm EST

Good consistent stuff as usual but how can the boys have a world tour and not play at HOME.

Rifle | 9/12/2008, 7:10 pm EST

can’t wait for the tour. last saw ac/dc in toronto at sars concert headlined by rolling stones in 2003 – ac/dc blew everyone away. it wasn’t even close. as for the song – it great to hear some quality rock and roll on the radio that makes you feel good for a change. a fantastic if brief escape from all the election b.s. /gouging at the pumps/climate change is gonna kill us unless we start driving souped up vacuum cleaners and shower twice a year insanity

Peej | 9/12/2008, 8:02 pm EST

I’ve been a rabid AC/DC fan since 1978 and I’ve got the logo tattoo to prove it. This isn’t a great song but just hearing a new song from them puts a huge smiale on my face. Just heard they’ll be in my town in Nov. I’m there!

No Sell-Outs | 9/14/2008, 7:58 pm EST

Don’t be sore just because there are still some bands out there who have remained true to what they set out to play, rock and roll!

AC/DC aren’t sell-outs. They haven’t sold their souls to ‘modernise’. They’ve never looked to be trendy. They’re not pop stars. They don’t pander to the audience, and that’s why we love them. If you want just another ‘rock’ album, look elsewhere.

desiel | 9/18/2008, 10:52 pm EST

I’VE READ ALL THE STATMENTS. THE BANDS GREAT TO STILL BE ROCKING AFTER 35 YEARS. YOU CAN HATE ‘EM OR LOVE ‘EM . NAME HOW MANY BANDS THAT HAVE A TRACK RECORD THAT LONG AND HAVE VERY LITTLE DUPLICATE SONGS ON THEIR STUDIO ALBUMS ! NOT MANY! THE SONGS GREAT, THE STYLE IS CONSISTENT. AND LAY OFF THE STATEMENT “SOUNDS THE SAME”. I ASK AGAIN HOW MANY BANDS CHANGED THEIR SOUND AND SURVIVED. THE BAND IS TRUE TO THERE OLD FANS AND ARE ATTRACTING THE YOUNGER GEN.

ALSO EACH MUSIC GENRE SOUNDS THE SAME ANY WAY.

ROCK N ROLL IS PLAYED WITH REAL INSTRUMENTS AND RAW POWER NOT SOME SYNTHO-TECHNO-COMPUTERIZED DIGITAL ARTIFICAL BULL.
I HOPE THEY CAN STILL KEEP ON ROCKIN FOR ANOTHER DECADE OR TWO

Blagnarok | 9/20/2008, 3:28 pm EST

This is an excellent track. AC/DC still rock. If people are upset because it sounds like a song from the same band, then they must not really be AC/DC fans. They are most likely just fans of a few songs!

muttdog | 9/21/2008, 9:07 pm EST

Listen to the song satellite blues and its the same sound but different lyrics.
