Kings of Leon False Advertise With New “Sex On Fire” Video

8/27/08, 4:46 pm EST

Behold, the new video for the Kings of Leon’s “Sex On Fire.” Despite the song’s title, the video sadly features no sex, no fire and definitely no sex on fire. The clip does have plenty of chickens, sweat and exorcisms, if that’s any consolation. It also looks strangely similar to Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” video, with all the crucifixes and Biblical allusions. “Sex On Fire” is the first single from the band’s new album Only By The Night, due out September 22nd.

BLAH | 5/22/2009, 6:14 pm EST

There is a Spanish Rock song that came out several years ago with the same beat and the lyrics are delivered in the same tone….Wish I could remember the song. It has been killing me

Someone please help me: This song sounds JUST like another song (especially the staccato guitar riff that falls on the back beat) that I remember being very popular sometime in the 90s.”

I totally agree on this one and it’s driving me crazy! Any suggestions?

hmm | 5/11/2009, 3:22 pm EST

When I first watched the video, I too was a little curious as to why there wasnt any sex in it. ( or even any girls at all)
But, and I dont think this revelation was the bands idea. This is just the interpretation I got out if it.
Sex is just the fullest way you can enjoy something. It is the highest pleasure with you and something else. So this video could be just talking about just enjoying something like……ldk drugs. I love this song. It’s so deep.

anna | 4/15/2009, 6:27 pm EST

This is all fake to me. All they are talking about is drinking, doing drugs, fucking around, being wasted, but when they show up in theirs Burbery suits, haircuts a la Robert Pattinson, when looks is more important then music, fuck it.

d.b. echo | 2/25/2009, 2:01 pm EST

I think structurally it sounds like “All Fired Up” by Pat Benetar. You could probably intercut pieces of the songs and have them flow together pretty seamlessly.

sooz69 | 2/20/2009, 10:33 am EST

this vid is clearly about smack withdrawal any of you that think its about being gay you are mental and clearly cant see what is right infront of you…this IS the best song EVER!!!!!

Drunktitties | 2/8/2009, 9:22 pm EST

for those who think the song reminds them of another from the 80’s or 90’s - I totally agree. Could it be an old 38 Special tune which reminds us of the “Sex on Fire” song??

Ad | 2/8/2009, 2:58 pm EST

I think the vocals in this song sound a lot like Sammy Hagar’s. Sort of a combination of “Your Love is Driving Me Crazy” and “I Can’t Drive 55…”(?)

Angel Fuck | 2/5/2009, 4:28 am EST

I agree…I was like what the fuck? Do like it in the butt? What was up with the guy pouring water all over his body…the video made it look like he was having withdrawls…at first and then all of a sudden the other dude was almost naked with the water, so I was like is he gay or coming off drugs…the video was very confusing!!!!

Too Old | 1/27/2009, 5:11 pm EST

Am I the only one who thought this was Steve Winwood singing when they first heard it??? Love the song and the band tho.

Nathan B | 1/26/2009, 6:56 pm EST

The beginning kinda sounds like Even the Rats by the Slip. Idk

Anyone figure out what that “other” song is this sounds like. It drives me nuts everytime i hear it. Like the lyrics are right on the tip of your tounge.

Nathan B | 1/16/2009, 1:56 am EST

this music video proves that this song is about gay sex. Ahh! But think about it. There was no girl in the video. Also with the whole Christianity thing, he was probably ripping out the pages of the bible that dont allow homosexuality. Does anyone else agree?

Nicorboker | 1/10/2009, 5:28 pm EST

it sounds like “as long as you follow” by Fleetwood Mac

Bruce Springsteen — Dancing in the Dark

@ anonymous | 1/1/2009, 9:11 pm EST

exactly what i thought. The first time i heard it, it reminded me to some song either of the 80’s or 90’s. Sadly dont know which…
Very cool song!!!

bla | 12/28/2008, 7:20 pm EST

the song is about being on heroin and coming off heroin. cause they wrote it when they were addicts didnt they?

shabam | 12/24/2008, 8:49 pm EST

i would so fuck caleb followill.

hands down.

sexiest voice ever.

KOL are incredible.

psycho monk | 12/22/2008, 6:00 am EST

i like this bind like i love sex

bugman | 12/17/2008, 7:17 pm EST

Listening to this the other day while driving I was just about to blast out the lyrics to the “other” song and drew a complete blank. It was late 80’s early 90’s on the Charlie Sexton/Eddie Money kinda sound.

anonymous | 12/17/2008, 6:11 am EST

Someone please help me: This song sounds JUST like another song (especially the staccato guitar riff that falls on the back beat) that I remember being very popular sometime in the 90s.

I’m not talking about “Dancing in The Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. Evidently, I’m alone on this opinion, but I really don’t think this song sounds much like Springsteen’s at all, except for the general chord progression (which is very common and can be found in probably hundreds of songs) and a few melodic similarities between Caleb’s vocals and the main synth melody of Dancing.

Anyway, there’s a tangent for you. Does anyone have any leads on what slightly older song sounds a lot like this one?

KiwiinUSA | 11/30/2008, 11:10 pm EST

I LOOOVE THIS SONG…can’t stop playing it

newzealandnikki | 11/21/2008, 6:50 pm EST

This is good music; some people do not appreciate change or evolution in music. Sure, no denying there has been a clear transition into a more polished sound but KOL still maintain the key essentials; layers, climatic emotion, sweet rifts and much appreciated lyrics.

Good music provokes some level of emotion.

This Girl | 11/10/2008, 11:59 pm EST

People seem to be sitting on the fence about this album, some love the different sound, some not so much, but apart from a few people (who probably have never listened to KOL)who think they suck or are over-rated, mostly everyone loves the new album, i know i do. I love all KOL stuff, and even if they have lost the dirty, raw feel to their recordings, they have gained it in thier music.
This album, and song in particular makes people want to fuck, and that has to be a good thing right?

MzJodie | 10/24/2008, 7:09 pm EST

hey well ive never heard of kings of leon until ‘’your sex is on fire'’ so i guess there plan has worked and they now have a higher majority of people listening to them although im waiting to hear some of there old stuff as everyone seems to think so higherly of it ,but main reason ive come here was my waitress at work was going on about the film clip and how they must be gaye because of the manly erotics of the film clip and i must say i do not actually see that when i watch the film clip i was expecting something alot more involved lol..and maybe its me just over reading the song but watching the film clip and really listening to the worlds i get the feeling the reason that there isnt actually sex in the film clip is because the sex isnt actually what the song refers to i think its more layed at the taboos of society and maybe its about the effects of drugs as many drug users say its better then sex and how sex on drugs is electric so maybe theres more meaning to the song then people relise im not sure what the band has said about the song this is only the feeling i got from the song and am probable way of base but yeh, love the song its really catchy has a kinda alluring quality and the singer really has a great seductive voce that i personally think makes this song a success i dont think had someone else sang it that it would have the same feel, sound or popularity. anywayz thanks and hope to hear some more songs and would love to see if anyone agrees with me

jules | 10/20/2008, 10:50 pm EST

liked their 2nd-3rd cd best. Not so much the new one. Too smooth, over produced. They lost their originality, now they sound like Bruce and all the other Bruces in the world.

Kitten | 10/17/2008, 12:24 pm EST

This album is definitely good… but VERY different than any of their previous ones. They are trying to get a home fan base- Theyre HUGE overseas, but have never hit the big time over here, so yes the album is a little more mainstream- but listen to Caleb’s voice- it sounds so good this album! I definitely miss the gritty dirty days of old, but its a new sound from them. Thats the signs of a great band- evolving.

And for all of you who want them to “return” to their old sound- why dont you just “return” to their old albums and let these boys do what they do!

A bit surprised they’re already putting out a new album. Seems like they’re just trying SO hard. Don’t get me wrong, one of my fav bands hands down- both old & new sound. Wonder where they can go from here..interesting.

mATTERgOD | 10/11/2008, 10:54 pm EST

KOL have grown as artists over the years. However, that may be there biggest liability. I still moderately like their sound.

They have been my favorite 21st century band besides the Strokes. But, the last two releases have paled in comparison to the sound of the first two. Just my opinion, I think this exploritory sound is going away from what was going to make them more successful in the U.S.

Still a very good American rock band, but the hard edge is gone. Smoothing out the sound takes away from the initial raw energy they possess.

Hopefully, the fifth album will return to the first two. That is what they need to break through in the states.

I love Kings of Leon! But i’m very doubtful about this single… maybe I’ll warm up to it.

It definitely did not sweep me off my feet like ‘On Call’ or the very peculiar but charming ‘Charmer’

I’m definitely keen to hear more of this album. The last disc was truly excellent - not a single throwaway track on there.

This new tune is good, but I’m hoping for some serious rollicking songs too…

Anonymous | 8/29/2008, 9:13 am EST

Pretty good song, I hope Kings new record can build on the last one cause the last one was really good.
