Very good list! what would you say, as well as dreaming tree should probably be on there. But, still a damn good list.

ReidAnkulous | 8/26/2008, 4:47 pm EST

Dancing Nancies usually when played live featured LeRoi presence like nothing else, should have def made the list, but toher than that all accurate

Omnipotent Music God | 8/26/2008, 6:55 pm EST

Forgot one DMB classic.

“Everyone Thinks We Are Cool ‘Cause We Have (Had) a Black Saxophonist and a Soulful Sound, But Our New Age Lyrics and Whiny Singer Make us America’s Coldplay.”

I’ll never forget when they did that one live. So moving.

daniela | 8/27/2008, 7:35 pm EST

I wish they had mentioned which album each song was from. With all the live recordings, the same song is recording in a variety of ways, some better than others.

Jake | 10/24/2008, 2:05 am EST

Grey Street…#1 on my list

brad | 11/5/2008, 7:30 pm EST

zach | 12/4/2008, 11:29 am EST

Where is Crash and American Baby? Other than that I would say spot on. I would also say White Horses & All Along the Watchtower Live versions

Jimmi Thing? Everyday?

KATHY | 12/18/2008, 12:36 pm EST

OBVIOUSLY PEOPLE HAVE CERTAIN LIVE PERFROMANCES OF A PARTICULAR SONG THAT THEY WOULD RANK OVER ANOTHER.. AS A GENERALIZED IT IS PRETTY SPOT ON!

Erin | 12/19/2008, 12:35 am EST

Two Step is definitely right to be at #1 by popularity vote.

DMB's #1 Fan | 1/23/2009, 5:27 am EST

How can everyone forget “Let You Down,” “#34 (with lyrics; search Feb & March of 93.) If anyone is looking for the best version of “All Along The Watchtower,” check out the Live Trax #2 release in San Fran. Dave gets Santana, and they kill it!!! As far as the rest go..

#40 (See Live at Yoshi’s (5.10.95)
Don’t Burn The Pig (5.10.95)
Stone, The
Lover Lay Down
Dreaming Tree, The
Christmas Song, The
Halloween
41 Police (the song that would become #41)
Bartender (Live Versions Only!!)
Any Noise/Anti-Noise (song that became Say Goodbye)

If you are looking for songs that never got their due…

Say Goodbye
Grace Is Gone
Busted Stuff (Live: Warehouse 8 Vol. 2)
Typical Situation
Dreamed I Killed God (only played with Tim in the spring of 97)

COVERS:
Exodus
Eyes Of The World (8.11.95)
Redemption Song
Stir It Up
Tangerine

Check these songs, then get back to me about being a “real” fan of DMB. I’ve been a fan for almost 17 years, so if you want a real list, check this one out…

Bobby Bucheut | 1/28/2009, 10:40 pm EST

List is almost perfect – but I would have had “#41″ be at the top and I would replace “Bartender” with “Jimi Thing”

Keith | 2/5/2009, 11:35 am EST

Been listening and see Dave shows for a long time now and this list is a great one if folks are looking for the 20 best DMB souding songs. Nice mix.

More hardcore folks might pick some more obscure stuff, but this list is right on the money.

JLM | 2/13/2009, 12:07 am EST

A true DMB fan would put Mother Father on the list.

kirsten | 2/14/2009, 7:53 pm EST

the idea of you?
oh?
some devil?
rhyme and reason?
lie in our graves?
grave digger?

steady as we go?
no matter what, this list could never be complete…ive never met a dave song i didnt like

Nick | 3/5/2009, 3:44 pm EST

i only saw one person say You Never Know. That is the greatest DMB song ever. it tells a story like everysong, but this one is different.

Live at Folsom Field is the greatest version.

And stone is a close second followed by Grey Street Live Trax vol. 2
and Raven Live Trax Vol. 2

Mike | 4/20/2009, 1:32 am EST

People don’t understand it is a generalized list… I’m fairly surprised that “Everyday” isn’t on here, because that always get’s the crowd into it. Always a fun song.

everyday is my favorite dmb song by far…

Landon | 10/21/2009, 10:48 am EST

i think some people miss the point that what makes DMB a sound group is that the art they produce can work in so many different ways…and affect so many different “genres” of people. don’t hate on people who enjoy mainstream–they have their place. don’t hate on people who enjoy old school–they have their place. in the end, it’s about the joy you get from hearing their music, whether it came from the radio, a cd, or a concert.

anyway, my top DMB song is “the idea of you”, not for necessarily how it can be interpreted, but for both the aura the band creates with it. a lot of passion can be heard in dave’s voice, and he says himself at the end, “by the way…i LOVE that song!”

i’m done.
