Coldplay’s Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends is barely two months old and already the band are aiming for a 2009 release for their next album. The sessions the band had with producer Brian Eno were so “incredibly fruitful,” a source at Coldplay’s label EMI said, that they recorded more music than a single album could house. “The majority of the follow-up is already in the can, though they will have to go back into the studio at some point to add a few more songs,” the source told the U.K.’s Telegraph. So why the rush? The source speculates that after this upcoming album — which would be the band’s fifth — could be combined with an obligatory greatest hits compilation to fulfill their contractual obligation to their label. Chris Martin has already hinted at a new record in 2009, saying it would be the likely destination of the band’s collaboration with singer Kylie Minogue.

i admit that i like their 1st, 2nd, and 4th albums…i don’t go all orgasmo over them like the rest of the world though.

hopefully this’ll will bring back how it was in the 60’s and a lot of the 70’s – artists coming out w/ new albums every 9 months

All of their albums sound the same. I’ve seen no progress in this band. They take no risk whatsoever to evolve their sound. Its not like they cant afford it. They’re pretty famous. I guess thats the issue with music nowadays, its mostly the same vomit being thrown-up over and over again. This may as well just be yoga meditation music because they are a complete snorefest.

Coldplay, whom I have seen live twice and generally regard as wonderful musically and repetitive lyrically, have definitely fallen into the trap that AmericanMale address in the previous blog. Eno’s production work on tracks such as “Yes” and “Lovers in Japan” could not stop Martin from tripping over his own lyrics on “Viva La Vida”, et al….Look. Coldplay is good. They are reaching for stars and planets that U2 has already planted their flag on. Coldplay’s “Joshua Tree” has not arrived yet. They probably came closest on “A Rush of Blood to the Head”, which I still regard as their best “album” front to back. “Viva la Vida” is just a bit too uneven for me.

I think it should be obligatory for all the Coldplay bashers in these comments (or ANY band’s bashers in their respective comments sections) to give a shortlist of stuff that they currently prefer over the band in question.

I’m a fan of Coldplay, but just for the hell of it:

+ Scars On Broadway
+ One Day As A Lion
+ Nas

,,,,dude, yu listen to Coldplay, like anyone cares what you think, dork.

It doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. There will always be people who bash the music of others, as sure as death itself. Now, all I have to say on Coldplay is that they are talented.

I appreciate how characteristic Chris Martin’s voice is and I also appreciate his vocal talent in general. Other than that, this band has an uncanny ability to place songs together in a way so that they stick in your head. Their songs are made up of so many components, no one can deny they sound almost empty without one of the other components (i.e. guitars). This proves they are not purely vocal power, but musical as well.

True, this album is not their best. But Coldplay themselves admitted they were attempting to find a new sound and a new genre. That takes some adjustment. Perhaps, their next album will be more secure and more clear genre and sound wise.

And if you’re complaining that they’ve become pop sell-outs and aren’t any good- just remember that Mozart in his time was pop, and look at him now.

Good music is not defined by what you think… it’s defined by what history thinks.

Don’t listen to people who say this is bad music. Let’s see you do better. It doesn’t matter what you haters think, so don’t waste your time commenting on a page that will get you nowhere.

Anyone who bashes Coldplay obviously has no life and hasn’t actually listened to their music at all. And BTW, if you pay actual attention, you’ll notice the steady progression in Coldplay’s sound and lyrics. Even a moron could figure that out!
