Daughtry and CNN To Lure “First Time” Voters With Foreigner Cover

8/19/08, 8:57 am EST

Chris Daughtry has joined CNN’s League of First Time Voters by contributing a cover of Foreigner’s “Feels Like the First Time.” The song will help soundtrack special reports throughout CNN’s election coverage focusing on first time votes as they navigate the platforms of both Barack Obama and John McCain. “We strongly believe that it doesn’t matter who you vote for, as long as you vote,” said Daughtry. “Getting to rerecord a classic song like this was a real honor for us, and we hope it helps inspire people to vote.” Even Foreigner’s Mick Jones is down with the new version, saying “Daughtry’s version of the song is very cool and has more than captured the essence of the original.” The song also has an election-themed video (above), which premiered last night. Don’t worry, Daughtry fans who prefer Fox News: the song will also be available on the Daughtry Deluxe reissue, due out September 9th.

Flip A Coin, Stupid Daughtry…

I think you are totally missunderstanding the quote, ” It doesn’t matter who you vote for” meaning it’s your choice…

“As long as you vote” meaning you choose but in doing so you must vote…

I understand what Flip A Coin? is talking about. It does matter who you vote for. What Doughtry and CNN should be emphasizing is to become knowledgeable about all the candidates in every office and all the initiatives that they will be voting for. Instead of just registering to vote and showing up ignorant about who and want they are voting for.

It’s scary that someone is extolling the right to choose who you want to vote for? I thought that’s what this country was founded on, people having a say in choosing their leaders according to their personal convictions.

I think that was his ultimate point, not a random chad-punching or lever-pushing.

Polarize much?

As for the song…not a bad cover, not the best or worst I’ve heard.

True this version isn’t really different but it is very good. I like it better, perhaps because of production values have improved.

As to It doesn’t matter who you vote for, as long as you vote. Its scarey you don’t understand what that means.

“It doesn’t matter who you vote for, as long as you vote.”

That is the scariest thing I’ve heard in a while.
