We hate to go back to the Regis and Kathy Lee well, but there’s too much going on in this clip to ignore it. Philbin and Gifford’s sit down with the Smashing Pumpkins from 1998 was tied to the release of Adore and features Billy Corgan, James Iha and D’Arcy Wretzky playing an acoustic version of “Perfect” before Philbin jokes about going clubbing with Corgan and Gifford declares she wants to go shopping with Wretzky. The tension between the band is palpable, especially during the questions about the band’s changing sound and the mentions that the group was donating all the ticket sales on their tour to charity (Iha seems especially perturbed by this). Once again, the crossroads of bad morning TV and ’90s alt-rock has provided fantastic television.

Tensions were well documented. Smashing Pumpkins fell apart, rather quickly, long before this appearance. At this point in their career(with money rolling in) the band accepted their roles. Unfortunately, I dont see the soap opera the writer tries to conjure up on this vid clip.

When Conan O’Brien dedicated one of his entire shows to U2 back in ‘05 I think, that was a good one. Let’s see it, RS. This is bland.

Huh? What clip were you watching? There’s very little tension and Iha is simply being quiet. Slow news day at RS I guess.
