Rage Against the Machine to Play War Protest Show During DNC

8/14/08, 12:26 pm EST

Already scheduled to play in Minneapolis during the Republican National Convention, Rage Against the Machine prove they are bi-partisan protesters after signing up to play the Tent State Music Festival To End the War, which happens to take place in Denver on August 27th, during the Democratic National Convention. Tickets to the event are free but only available through a lottery you can enter here. Joining Rage at the full-day fest are State Radio, MC5’s Wayne Kramer and Denver’s own poli-sci rockers Flobots. Flobots will also take part in Democratic portion of “Grammy’s Rock the Conventions” on August 26th. Daughtry and Everclear will also take part in that all-acoustic performance. On the Republican side of the Grammy’s series, songwriter Brett James (writer of “Jesus, Take the Wheel”) and “up-and-coming singer/songwriter” Greg Laswell will perform on September 2nd.

@The Graveyard

Obviously, you have never heard of the concept of using an extended metaphor in song-form to convey a specific sentiment. (in this case, shooting shoppers on Rodeo as a metaphors for railing against the absurd profits made off the sweatshop-made goods those shoppers buy, not to mention the all-around douchey snottiness of it all)

I was planning on going to the RNC to see Rage’s show there, but I’ll go to Denver instead. At least in Denver there is a point in demonstrating, it is completely expected to be pissed off at the republicans…but the democrats have paid a large part in continuing the war.

They didn’t “fall silent” during the Bush years…they broke up. I will admit they did it when we needed them most, but know what your talking about before you open your mouth about one of the greatest bands of this generation.

You can be against the war and still agree that Rage are just idiots who capitalize on knee-jerk teen rebellion. Re: their comment in Rolling Stone about shooting people on Rodeo Drive. They’re disgusting asshole clowns and I would say that to their face.

Neil Young’s ‘Living with War’ project is a good example of a protest album that’s nuanced, sincere and effective. He doesn’t just scream ‘fuck you! fuck you!’ at people who disagree with him.

THX-1138, Are you scared of what the crowd would do to you? Cant handle the intensity? Stay home and bitch some more.

Perhaps I would believe that these clowns had some sincerity to their message if they weren’t the same band that burned an American flag during the Clinton years then fell silent for most of the Bush administration. We all know they’re good capitalists. Are they good republicans as well?
