In the shortlist of songs that will define the summer of 2008, Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” might end up taking the top spot, as the song about tasting cherry Chapstick has turned Perry into a star and made her the breakout artist of this year’s Warped Tour. Click above for an acoustic performance of “I Kissed a Girl,” and click below for more from Perry, including why she hates Fox News and what her parents think of her hit.

bolly, how can your boyfriend be satisfied with what he’s got when he’s not even sure that his girlfriend won’t bail on him at a moment’s notice for another chick? Pot calling kettle black…

P.S.
Sobule’sBetter, if Jill ’s version was so ground breaking, how come it wasn’t a hit like I Kissed A Girl? That’s why no one remembers it, which is why you have to ask. Katy is more clever than you think.

i cant stand the whole ‘petending to b a lesbian’ thing. i myself am a true bi sexual, and i cnt stand people who do it for attention. and this is the biggest ‘im bi curious’ ive seen yet. men love the whole lesbian thing..and to watch my boyfriend watching this trash makes me very mad. men are never satisfied with what theyve got and this makes me feel even worse. Im sure other women feel the same..and if you do please let me know!

I think this song rings very true to the social mood of the current generation of teens. I see it everyday, and am intrigued to watch how people change as the years go by. While people’s emotions towards love are as extreme as ever, younger generations look at sex as something playful and noncommital. I think Katy Perry understands this and nailed it on the head with her song.

Wensel,

I Kissed A Girl is about pandering to male heterosexual fantasy. It is not about sexual freedom as much as it is about submitting to male heterosexual fantasy. And, yes, I have to agree with Jason who said that liberals are responsible for the double standard when it comes to attitudes to same-sex sexuality (ie. girl-girl “hot”, guy-guy “not hot”). Such hypocrisy on the part of liberals doesn’t go down well. For instance, I know gay guys who won’t vote for Obama or any other liberal because of double standards like this.

Radio in America is hypocritical and homophobic towards men. For example, I can’t see American radio playing a song by a man called “I Kissed A Guy”. One of the reasons I won’t vote for a liberal is because of double standards like this. Liberals are responsible for the bisexual double standard (girl-girl OK, guy-guy not OK).

Pandering. Lowest common denominator. Conformist.
It is a shame what an artist feels they must do to get attention. But she is not the only one to blame, the public, or media or both just love this stuff.

she’s a lesbian tease.

It’s amazing to me that Fox news doesn’t catch on that a negative response from them is REQUIRED to make anything popular. Bill O’Reilly is a reverse-taste maker and the free thinking humans on this planet LOVE to hear his 10 year old, perhistoric views of how people should live. It’s funny to watch the conservative population demand that we should all feel horrible about ourselves like they do. Can’t wait for NASA to find fossils on Mars and watch their judgmental, hateful religion turn to dust in their hands. Maybe then they’ll realize that LIFE can be like heaven. Sexual repression is the cause of war and hatred. Chill out and let it flow, folks. We’re just silly little creatures trying to find happiness. Everyone loves “I Kissed a Girl” cuz they’re SICK of hearing about how much they should judge and hate people. Honesty is back in fashion.

It’s not her debut album, as stated in the “article”. Some research would be nice, you know? A little fact-checking, maybe?

deregistering my account and perhaps more importantly not buying your magazine, think this trash and talentless bimbo has got enough exposure from the radio stations

good now in 9 months she’ll be forgotten. if im right then im right, if im wrong then good for her, shes makin money.

Sobule'sBetter | 8/15/2008, 7:00 pm EST

It always fun to see what the flavor is this month. She’d be less annoying if she didn’t think she was so clever. Does no one remember that Jill Sobule already wrote this song like 15 years ago? Oh and her guitarist really blows.

puretrash | 8/15/2008, 1:18 pm EST

she’s pure trash!

additionaltruth | 8/14/2008, 6:26 pm EST

She was a Christian Singer but I guess the God racket does not have the big bucks any more. She is just another Creed and time will show this fact. Five years from now, we will make fun of friends who still like her music.

If this kid was any cooler she’d be a refrigerator.
