After a mess of leaked GNR tracks popped up a few months back, another new cut has apparently popped up online. “Shackler’s Revenge” (which was supposed to have its premiere on the upcoming sequel to the video game “Rock Band”) opens with a deep-voiced Axl gradually building towards his characteristic yowl, and features guitar noodling that is very likely the work of the man called Buckethead. The song’s low crunch sticks with the album’s long-stated industrial leanings, and again, layers upon layers of Axls create a particular sort of demented choir. We’re getting thirsty for some Dr. Pepper.

Buckethead has more emotion in his music over slash, there both extreamly great, but slash is just a little bit to overrated, i think shacklers revenge is crap, that effect in axels voice ruined it, but buckethead brought some life to it

Shackler’s Revenge doesn’t suck. It’s not something you can really get into like old gnr, BUT, when I heard it I was impressed. It’s better than shit like “Better” lol
The Jeffer | 9/21/2008, 2:11 pm EST
Yet another failure in the pathetic career of “Guns N’ Roses”, this song was a major disappointment in my book. The intro and verses are nothing like the GNR of old, despite how much Axl is trying to make us seem like nothing has changed. The whole “deep voice” thing he tries to pull off has absolutely no value to it. And as for the chorus, which is the only thing that even vaguely resembles a GNR song because of Axl’s wail, it just doesn’t live up to any of the hype that that sorry state of a man has tried to put together for the better part of the past decade. Face it Axl, you are nothing without Slash, Duff, Izzy, and Matt, so the sooner you actually decide to man up and admit you’re a major douche, the sooner the REAL Guns N’ Roses can get back to making kick-ass records.
KeVoRk|aN | 9/17/2008, 9:14 pm EST
Absolutely stunning!!! This is what the world needs right now! This is one song off of a well thought out complete album. When is the last time a band really did that? This is the answer to our prayers. Rock is back!

axl and gibby beat up cobain at the mtv music awards.
kurt could fight, don’t get me wrong, but a simple google search tells the story, he got his ass kicked for mocking axl on tv by saying “axxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxle” over and over.
sorry.
doesn’t mean anything as far as music is concerned.

Josh Rouse, you do realize you’re retarded, right? 2008-28=1980. GnR were not around in 1980. AC/DC released “Back In Black” in 1980. Metallica, your intended target perhaps, released what is sometimes referred to as “The Black Album” in 1990.
And the name of the album Axl and his grandmother are waiting on is “Chinese Democracy”, not “Saints of Los Angeles”
You are right about Axl, but wrong about so much else.

The chorus can get alittle annoying, and the solo could be better, but I liked it for the most part.
Unemployed Critic | 8/19/2008, 2:22 am EST
Someone tell Axl that just because you have a distinctive verse, bridge, and chorus…doesn’t equal a hit.
The formula is there, but it just doesn’t work. Buckethead’s sound, while technically proficient, isn’t catchy by the least bit, and is often very trying to listen to.
The sound of this song reminds me too much of the ‘99 flop “Oh My God,” as its well structured, but much too harsh in sound. Disappointing, because I’m a big fan of a few of the other leaks…
Christine | 8/18/2008, 9:41 pm EST
Not since Elvis Presley has there been such an electrifying-ly performer (maybe Jim Morrison is another close second).
The world really hasn’t been quite the same since he kind of went away for while (I know he has toured in the least two years), and can we see why? We’ve got Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers posing as rock n’ roll.

I think the album sounds great, and his voice is in great condition. But when I think of Axl Rose, I think of delays, cancellations and dissapointments. I’ve got the album, so I’m happy.
God | 8/18/2008, 1:39 pm EST
Everything you know and love about GNR was because Axl had final say.
Sure, the chords or riffs may have not always been his ideas, but he wanted it the way he wanted it.
They could have made Appetite 2 in ‘91, but Axl didn’t want that. The rest of GNR didn’t really see the UYI’s as the great albums they were, timeless. Listen to them today, they sound as good now as they did in ‘91.
All respect for Nirvana, but some of their work seems a bit dated now, just as if Axl would have made two or more albums that sounded like AFD, but he didn’t..not that he couldn’t have. It was a total risk to make songs like November Rain or Estranged after songs like Rocket Queen or It’s So Easy.
You can say you don’t like the new GNR, but give it a chance. Outside of delays, Axl’s material rarely disappoints.
CT | 8/18/2008, 8:14 am EST
I find it interesting that when an article about GN’R pops up Nirvana is brought up as well. I am a fan of both bands and I consider them my generations Beatles and Stones. The truth of the matter is Axl and Kurt had more in common with each other than differences. They were “cut from the same cloth”. Conversely, Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana as bands were different from one another. Nirvana had more in common with AC/DC. I don’t mean to say they wrote similar sounding music but that all Nirvana’s album have a very “pronounced” sound. Nirvana’s music is not very diverse from album to album. Bleach, Nevermind and In Utero are very similar sounding albums. Incesticide is marginally different in sound. Guns N’ Roses on the other hand have much more in common with Queen. Every album GN’R put out is different from one another. AFD is different from Lies which is different from the Illusion records and most certainly will be different from Chinese Democracy.
Nirvana and Guns N’ Roses should not inspire some of the posts I’ve read. They should inspire a celebration of good music because love Nirvana or GN’R or hate Nirvana or GN’R no one can deny their talents.
Hating bands should be reserved for the likes of Hinder etc…

Another History Lesson, U NEED A HISTORY LESSON. BonJovi didnt go into “Hiding” Jon released his mega successful solo Blaze of Glory album in 91. Triple platinum in the US with a number 1 single. The band THEN released “Keep The Faith” at the height of Grunge in 1992 and it sold VERY well, their tour was successful as always and they had a huge hit with Bed Of Roses.
so unless u know what u are talkin about, dont comment on the subject please.

Interesting, we live in a world where saying something good about someone or something means you are a sheep. We are compelled to say something negative so that we appear informed. There is nothing negative about news on such a great band. Who cares? All non haters and nonconformers.
One of our artists sometime sounds a lot like Axl and we love it!

Why waist the time to click on the link only to talk about Nirvana? Go to a nirvana message board and leave this one to GNR fans. I like Nirvana and all but who gives a crap about a rivalry from 15 years ago? Give the new music a few listens. It really grows on you.

Blah blah blah where’s Slash blah blah blah China will be a democracy before this comes out blah blah blah it’s not Guns N’ Roses blah blah blah it’s Axl’s solo project blah blah blah yada yada yada zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Axl Rose is supposed to make Appetite part II because A: it’s 2008, B: he’s 46 years old, C: old cockrocker burnouts who think “Anything Goes” is the best song they ever wrote say he should, D: Velvet Revolver already tried that and looked ridiculous trying.
Shackler’s Revenge rocks. All 10 leaks we’ve had this year rock and they’re all completely different from each other.
You love it and you know it!

I don’t agree with the notion that Nirvana and Co. being drug into the conversation, but I do think that this can’t be a showcase of just one point of view. Some of these people, myself included, were fans of GnR, bought albums and concert tix. That doesn’t mean that we automatically HAVE to like the new stuff just because Axl plugged in the drum machine and took 12 years to figure out how to use it.
There’s every bit of a right to say it’s great as much as it sucks. GnR is a band with history that’s more years than music, so different people got on/off the bus at different stages, and they’ve all got a take.
To V and The Haters | 8/15/2008, 4:56 pm EST
Whats the deal with people saying that just because a band sounded a certain way back when, that they should keep doin it over and over, Its not what they do, they grow up just as well as some people on this post should. V go to a Nirvana board and live there. And anyone else, go look up ur band and leave people who like another band other than urs alone. I dont diss Nirvana on a Nirvana post, Hell I dont even read it if Im not into that specific bands music, but I guess Im more mature than half the people on this post

another history lesson = an idiot!
were you even listening to music when nirvana first came out? I hate how some people say they killed hair metal. hair metal was becoming tiresome anyways, its not like nirvana came out then hair metal went right away. nirvana came out in 91 - if they killed hair metal, how come it was still going strong and getting rotation on mtv in 93?
and nirvana didnt try to kill gnr - they were actually fans of the band - do some research instead of listening to ppl who like to alter history as they see fit.

Hey Ben, there already was an Aerosmith without Joe Perry….Look up a guitar player named Jimmy Crespo.
Another history lesson | 8/15/2008, 3:00 pm EST
Obviously, the head bangers are still mad that Kurt and his buddies broke up their party a while back.
Of course GNR survived the 90’s, they had become as iconic as Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc. and that kind of legacy can live through a change in the market. But for the Bullet Boys, Warrant, White Lion, Slaughter, Firehouse, etc., Nirvana’s emergence meant the end. Heck, even Motley Crue and Bon Jovi had to go into hiding for a few years.
So while Nirvana couldn’t sink GNR, they sure sunk a lot of other bands. The resentment over that is still obviously barely below the surface. I know this is a fact, because my cousin is a die-hard 80’s rocker and he can’t stand Nirvana because in his words “they came along and made all of my bands look like a joke.”
In Kurt’s defense, I would say that most of those bands already looked like a joke (Warrant in the “Down Boys” video, for example), Kurt just stood up and pointed it out, and everybody laughed. Don’t kill the messenger, folks…
And as far as this statement: “…if Kurt were still alive he would be doing a co-headlining tour of dive bars in seattle with Screaming Trees..hahah”, you say that like it would suck!! Sure beats the debacle that is a GNR show…Axelrod running around with a leather face, pot belly and horrible extensions, showing up 3 hours late to play, if he even shows up at all. If that’s what you’re into, then I guess “ROCK ON!!”
Bono | 8/15/2008, 2:57 pm EST
Hello everyone. I know everyone is waiting for my take on this new “GnR” track. Listen, the only true winner here is The Edge. No, he is not the greatest guitarist who ever lived…..he is the greatest living thing…ever. Yes Jesus, that includes you in your time here in this toilet bowl we call Earth. Thank you.
darntootin | 8/15/2008, 2:37 pm EST
i think this is the most fun song to listen to of all the recent gnr leaks. in fact, it is one of my favorites. based on what i’ve heard, whenever chinese democracy is released it seems like it is going to be a diverse and enjoyable hard rock record.
it seems like critics of the new stuff mostly articulate one of two arguments…either they complain because the record has taken so long to come out and doesn’t meet their expectations of what an album that takes that long to release should sound like because they essentially expect perfection…or they complain because it does not sound like appetite despite the fact that neither of the illusions really sound all that much like appetite either (not to mention appetite was released over 20 years ago). i think those are unfair criticisms. if you don’t like it, that’s fine. and if you feel the need to explain why, that’s fine too. i can understand criticisms of the chaotic production, mild industrial influences, or even simply that it is not your cup of tea. but the apparent need to bash the songs because they are not perfect or because they don’t sound like appetite is getting really annoying.
letterman | 8/15/2008, 1:56 pm EST
This isn’t Guns N’ Roses. This is Axl Rose failing a poor attempt to start a solo career. What a worthless piece of crap. He has no respect for the fans. He has to make a record that will surpass 15 years or (mabey more depending on how long he wants to play with our fucking heads) of pointless waiting. Can he do it? No, thats a fucking given. It’s not Gun’s and Roses. He should just release this shit record because people are gonna hate him if he does for making em wait for bullshit and they are gonna hate him even more for not doing it. Either way hes a piece of shit
C | 8/15/2008, 1:31 pm EST
Ok quick history lesson.
AFD was a big success and same with UY1 and 2. Axl had a vision (November Rain,Estranged) Slash and Duff didn’t want to do any of those songs (Slash even admits he doesn’t like SCOM) Axl had to force them to do those songs. Long and behold Izzy left the band,Sorum got fired along with Gilby,Slash QUIT !!! then later Duff left as well.
Now 15 years later new band, same name, reinvented themselves and this is what we get a KICK ASS SONG.
Swingline | 8/15/2008, 1:20 pm EST
Some people will love Axl above all and defend even his squeaky farts for being musically brilliant. Others hate the man to no end and won’t ever give it a fair listen.
If this were a song by Orgy, would it be as amazing as some see it?
Loved a lot of the old stuff, don’t think much of the new song, but that’s just one take.
You can definitely tell by the emotions flying around that people are ready to jump all over it, in both good and bad ways. For a project that keeps losing money by the day, would be nice for somebody on the inside to nudge this album closer to a release date.
V | 8/15/2008, 12:46 pm EST
A band is a lot more than signing away your naming rights. Axl has been irrelevent since GNR broke-up. Axl is using the GNR name to try and make himself relevent again ’cause he can’t do it on his own. He’s using the GNR name simply because it’s more recognizable and will sell more records versus him having the balls, or should I say talent, to actually do something on his own. Of course that would fail miserably. The only hope he has at this point is to use the GNR name to get delusioned past GNR fans like yourself to buy his crap. Quit being a GNR homer and realize that without the original lineup, it’s just another GNR cover band with Axl on lead vocals.
He would get a lot more respect if he used a different band name, not to mention that whatever crap he eventually barfs out will ALWAYS be compared to past GNR records and that is a losing battle.
Listen or go away - hmmmm, I have listened and the new material is mediocre at best. I’ll think I’ll pass on that crap-load of an album that he’s been working on for like 20-years now. It is destined for failure.
To the others | 8/15/2008, 11:24 am EST
Saying this isnt GNR is bogus as well. The original memebers signed away the name to Axl. So there is two options, Listen or go away, its that simple.
Arch Stanton Open Ur Eyes | 8/15/2008, 11:21 am EST

This could possibly be a good record from Axl Rose but this is NOT Guns and Roses. News flash………..GNR broke a long time ago. Do Plant and Page call themselves Led Zeppelin? Why the hell do Daltrie and Townsend still call themselves the Who? The Who aint The Who without Moon and Entwhistle. GNR aint GNR without Slash, Stradlin, and McKaggan. WTF?
Pergy | 8/15/2008, 10:21 am EST
Kind of a different song for GNR…but nonetheless its a good catchy tune, nothing to do back flips over but definitely better than most music that is out there today…based off the 11 or so leaks you can really see the musical range Axl envisions GNR having, its a shame the old members wanted no part of this growth…good job Axl

The song sounds amazing from beginnning to end. Axl’s voice is better than ever and the guitar is awsome. People love to pass judgement because it doesn’t sound like AFD or the Illusion ablums, of course it’s not going to, it’s 2008 now!! Chinese Democracy is going to be much better than anything that has come out in the last 10 years and I can’t wait.
And what did happen to all the beginning posts about the song?? They were all positive and now all I see is stupid remarks about Nirvana and Pearl Jam. IRRELEVANT!!!!!!!

Weighing in at this corner…from L.A,California….GUNS N’ ROSES! Get in the ring mofo, and I’m gonna kick your bitchy li’l ass…..
Axl Foley | 8/15/2008, 9:00 am EST
Cobain, terrible father. Very selfish to put his problems before his kid.
He was rich, loved, talented. If he had problems, he would have been more of a man to work on them instead of sinking into drugs and taking the easy way out.
He’s no messiah. Just a bitchy guy that didn’t know if he wanted to be famous or not.

Nirvana and Guns n’ Roses Rule
kyle brooklyn | 8/15/2008, 7:36 am EST

AXL ROSE | 8/15/2008, 6:20 am EST
FUCKING GOOOOOOOD
Daniel | 8/15/2008, 12:44 am EST
i think artists should take a lesson from axl
make production costs for albums ungodly
take an enormous amount of time making the album
above everything though
make that moth****cker rock

First of all, what happened to “Off-topic comments will be deleted”?
Second of all, I swear earlier this afternoon when the news first broke, all the comments on here were positive. They somehow vanished and now it’s 80% negative posts.
This song rocks. The solos rip. It sounds fresh. I don’t think it’s the final mix because Axl’s vocals are a little buried at times.
For a 46 year old, this is pretty fucking cool stuff!
Ali | 8/15/2008, 12:10 am EST
This song is fantastic. Aggressive, with a stomping beat and vicious vocals and catchy as hell to boot. Awesome!

Song is great. Very industial sounding I really like it.
Vedder is Better | 8/14/2008, 11:46 pm EST
Don’t care for this new song. Hard to believe that it’s taken Axl well over a decade for this. But, I won’t pass final judgment until I hear Chinese Democracy in it’s entirety.
Hey Arch,
I’ve seen a lot of your posts around here. You need to get over the whole Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam rants. Eddie and Kurt resolved their differences, so grow up. Also, Dave and Krist hung out with Pearl Jam after Kurt killed himself. So, they all seem to be cool with each other. Get over it.
Also, if my memory serves me right, Kurt and Axl were both acting like kids with their little feud at the VMAS. I like Nirvana and G’N'R, but Kurt was brat and Axl is a megalomaniac.
Mr. Brownstone | 8/14/2008, 11:45 pm EST
Why are people still talking about Axl Rose vs. Nirvana? More importanly, the new song rocks if you give it a few listens. People hear it and dismiss it because it’s not Welcome to the Jungle or November Rain. Artists’ music has to change because people change. No one wants to hear another version of Appetite for Destruction. At least give it a chance and the credit it deserves as a quality piece of music, even if you don’t like the new sound.

wow,
pretty harsh everyone.
who the fuck cares anyway.
anyone who drags out this kind of mess and produces nothing but shit music and hype shouldn’t get our attention
AG | 8/14/2008, 9:24 pm EST
1. Axl is a genius
2. Nirvana sucks
3. This song is amazing
4. Axl could beat Kurt into the ground.
Nick | 8/14/2008, 9:23 pm EST
who cares about Kobane? NIrvava sucked harded. Funny how all the Nervana fans come onto the gnr postings.
Leonardo | 8/14/2008, 8:43 pm EST
Axl Rose is GOD…..
Leonardo | 8/14/2008, 8:40 pm EST
Arch…Axl almost blew Kurt’s stupid face on the MTV movie awards…do not twist the facts my friend…
Guns sold millions of records worldwide and in USA….millions more than Nirvana…Kurt is a good artist but is overrated, never sounded good alive…I saw him in Brazil and he sucked….
Axl Rose on the other hand…needs no introduction…the man is a myth…is an icon….
ian | 8/14/2008, 8:37 pm EST
its too bad g’n'r is terrible…next story please
John | 8/14/2008, 8:22 pm EST
and another thing…Arch…can you explain to me how Axl was “overtaken” by Kurt…Kurt is dead….Axl Rose has the most aniticpated album in the history of rock album set to come out….Guns N Roses were still selling out stadiums all over the world 2 years after Nevermind came out…if Kurt were still alive he would be doing a co-headlining tour of dive bars in seattle with Screaming Trees..hahah
John | 8/14/2008, 8:19 pm EST
haha Nirvana…talk about dated…and by the way Arch Stanton…Guns N Roses were still the biggest band in the world when Kurt blew his brains out….and as time has gone on…GNR is recognized as the better band…and has WAY more fans today than Nirvana…and as far as Cobain kicking Axl’s ass..I quote Cobain as he talking about the MTV awards “I coudnt possibly kick Axl Rose’s ass, the man is insane.” Do some research…
Tdawgdingdang | 8/14/2008, 7:52 pm EST
What I am hoping for is an infusion of the whole situation. A Nirvana reunion tour with Axle rose filling in for Kurt.
Nick | 8/14/2008, 7:43 pm EST
Fuck Cobain Arch. Ego or not, Axl shits all over Cobain on his worst day. People who speak about this punk as if he’s the Generation X’s John Lennon make me sick. This is a man who loved his baby daughter so much that he offed himself with a shotgun and left her with Courtney Love. What a legend! And if I recall correctly, and I do, it was Axl that wanted to beat Cobain’s ass for acting a fool backstage at the 92 VMA’s. Get your facts straight. Long live Axl.
Chris | 8/14/2008, 7:34 pm EST
I can’t understand why Guns and Nirvana can’t co-exist peacefully…….If George Bush thinks “man and fish” can two old bands can easily!
nirvana suck | 8/14/2008, 7:33 pm EST
nirvana always sucked, cobain was an egotistical idiot, nirvana never had more than a handful of decent songs, where gnr managed to have a debut album that wiped the floor of everything then and since. If he hadnt had shot himself he would just be another washed up rock star, im not saying axl is any better, but at least he doesnt feel the need to take a shotgun to his head.
TIm | 8/14/2008, 7:18 pm EST
Can’t believe how outdated “Shackler’s revenge” sounds!
Raised Eyebrow | 8/14/2008, 7:07 pm EST
That is the stupidest thing I have ever read. WHO CARES about 1992. Go listen to some Foo Fighters.
I am constantly blown away about how “fans” feel they have a say in who when and where the music comes out, and how they think, and I use that term loosely, that their rantings against them, whining, complaining etc, has any bearing on when and how an album is released.
Grow up .
Arch Stanton is stuck in 1992 | 8/14/2008, 7:01 pm EST
Are you a moron? Or just plainly retarded. What do you remember about Cobain? Because Cobain never “almost beat Axl down”. It was quite the opposite actually. Are you seriously saying “Long Live Cobain” about a pussy and weak excuse of a man that just couldn’t bear living anymore??? Oh God… this life is so tough… I can’t handle it anymore… even though I have a new kid… you know what, just fk it!!! fk it all!!! I’m gonna blow my head off!!! I hate this life and this world!!! It’s all so sad and so mean!!!
brett | 8/14/2008, 6:59 pm EST
how will dr pepper go about giving one can to every person in america??? exactly?
GET OVER IT | 8/14/2008, 6:56 pm EST
CAN EVERYONE GET OVER THEIR KURT COBAIN FIX ALREADY. HOW CAN ANYONE IDOLIZE A MAN THAT BLEW HIS BRAINS OUT.
Anonymous | 8/14/2008, 6:44 pm EST
Arch Stanton. You are a big cry baby. Long Live Cobain…uh…You know that fuck up blew his brains out back in ‘94 right?
dan1101 | 8/14/2008, 6:43 pm EST
And that alleged story is relevant how? We won’t be getting any new music from Kurt, let’s at least hope that Axl releases his eventually.
Willy D | 8/14/2008, 6:41 pm EST
But how easy is it to forget that it was actually Axle that originated all of that. I eat poop.
Arch Stanton | 8/14/2008, 6:31 pm EST
I remember when Cobain almost beat Axl down in ‘92 when Nirvana refused to tour with GNR. I still smile thinking how much Rose probably steams about being over taken by a guy who could have cared less about being the rock star that he was. Axl is no better than eddie vedder. keep your 1990 irrevelant music in the vault….Long Live Cobain.
