Billy Joel, Clive Davis, Michael Bloomberg Announce Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in NYC

8/13/08, 3:14 pm EST

Songs from Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen echoed through the streets of Soho this afternoon as Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in “the city where Lou Reed took a walk on the wild side.”

Flanked by Joel, Clive Davis, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President and CEO Joel Peresman, RRHOF Museum President and CEO Terry Stewart and CEO of NYC & Company George Fertitta, the Mayor said, “I’m one of the few people here who were around when this car was built,” referencing Bruce Springsteen’s 1957 Chevy Convertible at his side. The car, along with the CBGB phone booth on display, is one of the many artifacts which will make their home at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in New York City this coming November.

The Annex will occupy 25,000 square feet at 76 Mercer Street in Soho and showcase selected artifacts from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland, along with special rotating exhibits which will change about every six to nine months. “From Shea Stadium to Madison Square Garden, New York really gave birth to rock and roll” Peresman proudly proclaimed.

Billy Joel, inducted into the R&RHOF in 1999, told Rock Daily, “New York gave me my words and my music, and rock and roll gave me a place for that music to live.”

Screw the Hall of Fame. Tons of people shouldn’t have been inducted, while a slew of greater bands/ artists have still yet to be inducted. Typical political BS.

First off, if you know your Rock History you cannot deny that Rock-n-Roll got its name and its popularity from Cleveland. Not every cultural phenomenon in the 20th century happened in NYC or LA or Chicago. In fact, those cities have a long history of taking credit for stuff that they had nothing to do with creating. Case and point: Blues and Jazz. Cities like NYC think they can take credit for something they didnt create. You cant take credit for art just because you displayed it. And just because NYC is larger and more populated, it doesnt make Cleveland any less important to the history of the music. If Alan Freed were alive today, he’d be rolling in his grave. And if you dont know who Alan Freed is then you are probably the same moron who thinks Cleveland is unimportant to the history of rock. In which case, we dont want you in Cleveland anyway so go screw yourself.

Who cares. NYC is a better place for it. It’s the only cool city in the country.

RONNIE HAWKINS who is the grand daddy of ROCK AND ROLL has not been acknowledged. He is the one
who put THE BAND together, His musicians Played with JANIS JOPLIN.
JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO stayed at his house. He is a personal friend
of PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON.
He had DAVID FOSTER in his band and
got him noticed from the early days.
BEV DEANGELO was in his band.
A personal friend of KRIS KRISTOPHERSON.

Could someone let Rob Light of Joel Peresman know that he is one of the original ROCK AND ROLLERS
and that ROBBIE ROBERTSON was one
of his students in the ROCK AND ROLL SCHOOL OF MUSIC. Which was playing on the road as hard as they could.
RONNIE should be acknowledge as he is the King of ROCK AND ROLL and has been in CANADA playing music for 51 years and will be 75 soon.
Before that he played in Arkansas and all over the world with Roulette Records with MORRIS LEVY.
PLEASE LET SOMEONE KNOW THAT RONNIE
SHOULD BE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HE HAS
MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MUSIC AND THAT
HE HAS A PLACE WITH ALL THE OTHERS.
Sincerely,

Wanda Hawkins
