Mark David Chapman Denied Parole A Fifth Time

8/12/08, 4:58 pm EST

Mark David Chapman, the man who shot and killed John Lennon in on December 8th, 1980, was denied parole for the fifth time today. Chapman, currently serving a 20 years-to-life sentence in Attica prison for the Lennon slaying, will spend at least another two years behind bars before having another parole hearing. Despite having a record of good behavior since 1994, the parole board once again denied Chapman’s parole, citing “concern for the public safety and welfare.” Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono also lobbied against Chapman’s release.

Mark David Chapman stalked John Lennon for three days prior to actually murdering him. Previously he had gone to NYC twice — with the sole intention of murdering him. How this son-of-a-bitch was declared insane is a forgone conclusion — he’s a loony! This act was premeditated murder and nothing less … in a bid for attention and to be recognized and become famous. It was certainly not the act of a man unaware of his wrongdoing. Let him rot in jail. Chapman’s prison sentence was 20 years to LIFE, with 20 the minimum and life the maximum … therefore, he did not serve his term as someone stated he “served his time.” Macca and Starr are at risk; not the general public. The general public is a risk for Chapman — better off where he is.

mark chapman should be sent directly to the electric chair he should not even get a chance for parol. if he gets out of jail i will find him and kick his ass making him wish he was dead or still in prison. JOHN LENNON RIP

Well in the first place the guy was legally insane and choose not to plea not gulity for reasons of insanity by choice. I dont kno if he should be released, but if it was any other person the guy probably would have been released by now everyone is just saying he should rot in hell and he hasnt been granted parole because he shot lennon. he should be in a mental hospital not a jail.

The death of John Lennon was a great tragedy. While many will mourn, and others will subside their feelings, I have chosen to forgive. Violence is not the answer, and that is what John Lennon lived to teach us. While many think that it is simply crazy and unhuman to forgive, the one person who has gone through all the pain each hour of every day, has held out her hand and forgiven those who have and wanted to hurt her dear husband. Although many, including myself, might not respect all the decisions and some of the influence you had on John Lennon, we respect you, Yoko Ono, for being with John through the hardest times, and teaching him the true meaning of life, and to love. Thank you, and rest in peace John Lennon.

Its not that he was a celebrity. John Lennon was a man of peace trying to push the nation into a utopian direction. Anyone nutty enough to kill a man like that deserves to rot in prison. LET OUT THE MARIJUANA OFFENDERS!

GD | 2/12/2009, 2:50 pm EST

He has served his time and then some and has a record of good behaviour. He needs to be given another chance and with help from others will live out the rest of his life as a benefit to his community. Celebrities are no better than ordinary folk like me or you.

No such thing as god | 2/11/2009, 11:51 pm EST

To the person who thought he deserved this, no one deserves to get murdered. Your ethics/morals ,hile you might attach them to being a good ‘christian’ are deplorable. In short, go fvck yourself

john shoulda known betta | 2/1/2009, 4:46 pm EST

Let’s see… a superstar claims he’s more popular than Jesus and that Christianity will vanish, while being married to a power-hungry control freak that dabbles in the dark arts and nobody saw his end coming? Sometimes you get what you deserve.

KE | 1/24/2009, 2:51 am EST

I read anger and bitterness from most of the comments. That is not healthy and please let go of the evil in your heart. I don’t think John Lennon would approve of that. Also, Yoko will not be killed because she is not John Lennon.

Anonymous | 1/20/2009, 7:28 pm EST

This man took from the world a ray of light leaving darkness that has reigned over the last 20 years. He should have been thrown to the dogs a long time ago.

RIP JOHN.

LENNON FOREVER | 1/9/2009, 6:20 pm EST

Any idiot who thinks that Chapturd should be released should let him live in their house. Do you think your family would be safe? Maybe John would have given him a second chance, but I would kill that deranged zero on the spot with my bare hands. I met John in 1976 on the spot where he would die 4 and a half years later and of all the things I’ve accomplished in my life and all the places I’ve traveled to since then, that was a major highlight for me. Chapturd took away a legend and a good person from all of us and he should be put into general population in prison and NOT in protective custody where he is safe and sound. In general population he would be toast in 3 minutes. He is also allowed 2 conjugal visits with his skank wife Gloria Abe Chapman a year and that ain’t fair at all. Someone should whack her and then he would know what it’s like to have someone who means a lot to you taken away. John Lennon was a better person than me and would most likely forgive Chapturd, but I believe in an eye for an eye and that he should be executed or left to rot in jail forever. I think it’s great that he;’s up for parole every 2 years because in his rotted mind he probably thinks he’ll get out someday which he certainly won’t and it’s a nice tease for him. I also think the parole board should see the movies “Chapter 27″ and “The Killing of John Lennon” every 2 years before he comes up before them and he’s sure to be turned down. THose are chilling films that do not glorify this cowardly slime, but make him out to be the deranged dangerous mental case he was and still is. A curse on Chapturd and his entire trash family. JOHN LENNON FOREVER!!!

why should we kill someone who killed someone to show killing someone is wrong? i don’t think john lennon wants that. or God. we should let God do the judgment. he would get what he deserves.

but until then that fucking bastard better stay behind bars. until he learns his lesson and suffer the pain yoko ono, his family members, and friends havwe been through. and believe me.

thats A LONG TIME.!!!
justice is needed here. he should get what he is entitles too.

James of Vancouver | 12/7/2008, 4:41 am EST

I still feel the pain of that day 28 years ago. Now my own boys who are 13 and 18 both love John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles. They know and love all their inspiring music by observing that it “just makes you feel good”. We just watched the movie “The Killing of John Lennon”. There is nothing new and the feeling never changes. You keep hoping he will change his mind and just leave John alone, but no. It was just a complete waste of a talented and visionary man who had normal human weaknesses like anyone else. He was killed by a twisted sick nobody with the same abnormal issues like any other killer. End of story for him, yet John’s music and words live forever. Thank goodness we still have been able to enjoy the wonderful work of Paul, George and Ringo ever since. Peace!

PeaceMaker | 12/6/2008, 8:51 pm EST

Also, I believe that EVERY murderer should go to jail and be denied parole. Destroying a life is unexplainably horrible.
But this guy left the world grieving. The WORLD. I would do almost anything to go back in time and tell John to watch out, and I would take away all of George’s cigarettes.

PeaceMaker | 12/6/2008, 8:47 pm EST

If he gets out, someone will kill him, and John didn’t want murder. Imagine all the possibilities of John’s life that never happened because of this evil, heartless man - this guy should pay for it by wasting his own life rotting in a prison cell. Disgusting murderer.

al | 11/30/2008, 2:43 am EST

i love john lennon . he was probably as i think the best song writer that ever lived . and it was such a sorry day when he lost his life at the evil hands of mark david chapman . but what can i say are u going to keep him in jail for the rest of his life ?? . the man made a very wrong decision at that time in his life . he could rot there for all i care . .. it all boils down to if it was a normal man who got shot the killer would be out by now maybe 10 years ago .. so let him go and let karma sort it out . p.s i feel bitter but just sit back and see what happens to him . r.i.p john.

mark | 11/28/2008, 10:10 am EST

if he stays behind bars, he gets the worst form of life. no freedom, no nothing.
and if he is set free, he will most likely end up dead within a few years (from being beaten up or something or killed). I cant imagine him surviving very long once people know where he lives!

either way, his life is in finished. so no matter what verdict they give him, he will always be suffering.

its a shame he did this.
i also think that he didnt really single handedly plan this event. theres too much to show it may have had government involvment. (lennon was a key man in getting people to go against war). regan was planning a HUGE new anti-russia scheme and would have surely made lennon write more anti-gov stuff.

i guess it gets divided between people who believe oswald killed kenady and the other half who think it was higher than oswald.
same goes here.
I think its definately higher than chapman.
and somehow he was either picked and brainwahsed or blackmailed or paid.

if the latter two, I wonder if he regrets this now.

the reports say that chapman was carrying about 2000 dollars cash and stayed in the sheraton at the time of the killing. he also had numerous credit cards. he took holidays to the middle east before the killing… he shot like a pro.

where was it all from?

i’m sure there is more to it than meets the eye.

To all the people that say Free Chapman should think about this. What if it was your mother, wife, child, etc. killed, would you go to the murderer’s parole hearing and say free him? I highly doubt it. Another thing. All the people that say Yoko’s voice shouldn’t matter are wrong. She has a right to go and voice her opinion, everyone does. Psychotic killers don’t change, they just fool those around them to make it seem like they changed. The minute you let him out he will either kill, or be killed (probably by a mob)

Jonh Lennon is one of the greatest men to grace this world. He fought for world peace and wasn’t afraid to stand up for peace. He wrote some of the greatest songs, and said some great things.

Love you John Lennon RIP

Chapman shouldn’t ever be let out. he did a horrible thing and has to pay for it. anyway , he’d probably get killed if he was let out.

R.I.P. John Lennon

DK | 11/10/2008, 12:49 pm EST

Chapman will spend his life incarcerated as he should. Sirhan Sirhan has been denied parole 13 times already he will also spend his life behind bars. Look at Manson and he didn’t even kill anyone. John Hinckley will most likely stay locked up in some manner as well.

To all who say that Chapman should be treated as if he killed just some average person. You are right. He should be put to death or spend his life in prison… all the murderers that get out of jail are getting off easy.

back to planet earth! | 11/6/2008, 9:18 pm EST

and where do u get off saying yoko ono has no right to request denial of parole. she has every right, that man murdered her husband and father of her child, maybe your to young to imagine that kind of trauma.

back to planet earth! | 11/6/2008, 8:59 pm EST

it takes an egocentric sociopath to kill a human being because of a bit of hypocrisy. that pitiful bastard deserves no better than what he has, the sentence is 20 years TO LIFE you idiots. he got off easy, he committed first degree murder and got convicted for second degree. the only reason people are liberal is because they can afford to be, remember where you came from! a cave!

believeinjusticeNOTdescriminan | 11/2/2008, 7:23 pm EST

i think that yoko ono should have nothing to do with wheather or not he gets his parole. everyone deerves a second chance and im pretty sure that is something that john lennon himself would believe in.
yoko ono has no right in saying wether or not he gets his second chance. just because she was married to lennon. think about it in reality if you kill a womans husband you are sent to jail. no pitty there its your fault right?.. but the woman canot say whether or not you get parole it is upto the judicinal people. i think yoko needs to get a life, and stop thinking about herself. she isnt in any danger and if she were just go hire some security.

it was a horrible deed to commit. but no man deserves what chapman is getting.

Any-K | 10/29/2008, 10:18 pm EST

I think he should be let out, just because john lennon was a famous musician doesn’t mean that whoever killed him should be treated unfairly, I don’t think Chapman is being treated fairly by the judicial system and screw yoko ono just because her husband was john lennon what makes john any different from any other man, so what if he was in the most famous band, murder us murder and the correct procedures should be taken to have Chapman released.

Sounds like people are jealous of the rich and famous. Would you turn it down? But anyway. Deb 2 injustices is not going to make a justice for you or anybody. I’m black but I’m also a righteous black man. Just because justice is not fare to us it doesn’t mean the man should not rot in jail. To be honest the fact is anybody who kills in the same degree that he kills should rot in jail.

Deb | 9/16/2008, 2:13 pm EST

I grew up in “the hood” as it were(San Diego, CA. No Detroit but there is still a ghetto.) Being black and having grown up in an area were crime is the norm, I would have to take exception to all who feel that Chapman should rot in jail just because he killed John Lennon. I know several people who were murdered -including my sister and the killers were out in as little as two years. How can people feel that, “Oh, well, it’s just another black person…” or any other race for that matter. I read news stories of heinous killer4s of children who are let loose only to kill again. Too bad they don’t kill famous people. By the way, I am a Beatles fan and own several of their albums and movies. I’m just realistic and have never thought of them as gods as some tend to.

TShea | 9/14/2008, 2:17 pm EST

Mark Chapman should not sit in jail one day longer than if he had killed John Doe. To keep Chapman in prison longer simply because his victim was a famous person diminishes the value of the lives of all non famous persons. which frankly is most of us. John Lennon was famous and talented. He was also violent, a subversive and according to new audio tapes, he wanted to have sex with his own mother. So lets take Lennon of his pedestal. And view the case of murderer Mark Chapman as ever other murdered so convicted under New York law..

Jenni-Bean | 9/12/2008, 12:45 am EST

I am a huge Beatles/Lennon fan..in fact, I went to NYC recently just to see the Dakota and Strawberry Fields. Any of you who think this monster should be set free, go to Strawberry Fields. Hundreds of people from all over the world go every day to share a moment in the reflection of John’s message. It’s beautiful and heart breaking at the same time. I don’t believe MDC should be killed, because death is too good for such a beast. I hope he lives to be 120 and suffers every day, as the people who love John so much suffer without him now. People who are as sick as MDC will never cease to be sick…there is no such thing as “mental rehabilitation”. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I feel this man should be stripped of all privileges and left in a cement room to rot in mental anguish until he dies. I don’t care that he’s been on his best behavior, he’s still a calculating murderer and he shouldn’t be given any favors. The idea of him being paroled makes me sick

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds | 9/8/2008, 9:52 pm EST

Ok—-let’s just get this straight:

Any idiot above (and to my dismay there surprisingly ARE a few of you) who have the balls to say Mark David Chapman should get parole or be freed for what he has done should just as well be locked up!!! He MURDERED a great musical talent, and a good man who lived and fought for peace. It was a huge loss and still is. That you could even lightly question letting him go is a slap in the face to his memory!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!

John was such a peaceful loving man and certainly didn’t deserve to be gunned down in front of his home and family because he took the time to sign an autograph for a “fan.” I get goosebumps and tear up every time I hear the song “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy).” Having lost both of my parents (and not to a violent act) I can only imagine how Sean feels when he hears it. I haven’t heard anything about the movie they were supposed to make, but I hope they hold off on it until after the creep is dead…as he said, “He did it for fame”…let’s not give it to him!

Fan | 8/23/2008, 5:54 pm EST

Mark should not be ever released. Life is life and thats the way it should be no bargains like these killers have had for sparing there life from death penalty. If he had got death he would of made a deal and had no parole. Thats not right. The death penalty is death. Life is life no parole ever.

Mellaw99 | 8/21/2008, 5:23 pm EST

I hope MDC never again sees the light of day. He took someone wonderful from the world and also took a loving father and husband from his family. He shouldn’t even have the option of parole. Premeditated murder shouldn’t be allowed out ever.

An old friend | 8/18/2008, 12:13 pm EST

It’s funny that after all these years I still feel the same way about John and the rest of the boys as I did back in the early sixties when I was a very young girl. I was there when the Beatles changed the world of music forever. John, Paul, George and Ringo were my friends and they helped me through some very turbulent years in my youth and when John died I think I mourned not only for him, but for a piece of my youth that died along with him. I think John and the person that I knew he was would not want was to carry vengeance in our hearts for what happened, but to wish peace and forgiveness because after all, isn’t that what he stood for? I agree that John’s assassin should never see the light of a free world again, but wouldn’t killing him make us just like the very thing John hated so much? I miss you John.

ilovejohn | 8/15/2008, 1:42 pm EST

what i do not UNDERSTAND TO THIS DAY IS HOW PAROLE IS AN OPTION? THIS WAS PRE MEDITATED COLD BLOODED HEARTLESS COWARDLY MURDER.
COULD SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW PAROLE IS AN OPTION HERE.
HIS WIFE IS JUST AS MUCH TO BLAME FOR THIS SICKENING ACT SHE KNEW CHAPSTICK WAS A SICKO PSYCHO WACKO WEIRDO OBSSESSED BASTARD. HE SAID HE WANTED TO KILL JOHN BEACAUSE IT WOULD BE LIKE SETTING OFF A BOMB. HE WANTED TO HURT AS MANY PEOPLE AS HE COULD. CONGRATULATIONS MARKO
YOURE A FOOL WHO MADE HIS WORLD ALOT COLDER. STAY WHERE YOU ARE. YOU ROBBED AND RAPED ALL OF US.
MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOU

What if.... | 8/14/2008, 2:32 pm EST

….Mark had moved that gun just a little to the right and picked a better target?

agas | 8/14/2008, 12:34 pm EST

A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality. . . John Lennon

Reality is the murderer shot John in the BACK! Really???. . . is there anything to even discuss?

ted r | 8/14/2008, 12:13 am EST

if they were to let him out.. myself and a million others would definitely kill the guy. either way.. chapman is going to die a painful death.

Rachel Rimgale | 8/13/2008, 11:59 pm EST

Anyone who believes he should be released is truly clueless. That he is even considered for parole is heinous in itself. All that ridiculous notion does is cause more pain to his John’s loved ones. When this cold-blooded killer murdered John Lennon, he also killed the dreams of millions of people. The devastation can never be repaired. It breaks my heart to think of where John would have taken us all - especially right now when this world needs him more than ever.

Peace to John’s family … and all of us fans. It is our job to keep his message alive.

Beatnik | 8/13/2008, 10:57 pm EST

Sorry about the double post. I have no problem with the death penalty either. Anybody who says they wouldn’t want the death penalty for the murderer who gunned down their husband(or any family member)in the back in cold blood is lying. I don’t buy it.

Beatnik | 8/13/2008, 10:42 pm EST

There are some despicable crimes that are unforgiveable. Murder is one of them. I don’t believe in rehabilitation with this. It is a waste of time and money. I do belive he is safer in jail than he would be on the streets. The Beatles stood for peace and were against violence and I think true Beatle fans share their message but at the same time I have no doubt that somebody would try and kill him. Personally it’s excatly what he desereves. He should have been put down 28 years ago. It doesn’t matter whether the victim is famous or what color their skin is. Murder is murder and that’s why he should have gotten the death penalty.

mikesboy | 8/13/2008, 10:02 pm EST

this guy was a humongous coward. even though lennon was not perfect (who is?), i don’t understand how your mission in life could veer toward MURDERing a soul who most probably truly believed that ‘love is the answer’. what a fucking scumbag. if he was insane when he commited the act, he’s still insane and should be kept behind bars!!

Bob | 8/13/2008, 9:19 pm EST

Rot.

Qotu | 8/13/2008, 9:05 pm EST

Seriously? Some of you people think he should be released? He’s a cold blooded killer. Are you nuts?

lennon80 | 8/13/2008, 5:51 pm EST

Imagine no Mark David Chapman

polltax | 8/13/2008, 4:04 pm EST

Sirhan Sirhan has been decaying in jail for forty years for the killing of RFK. Chapman will follow this lead in time being served. Certain cold blooded killings are held up to society as an example. You, the killer, will die in jail….

vinyl junkie | 8/13/2008, 3:04 pm EST

i think that his release may incite violence toward him, something that goes against the core values that John Lennon stood for. if it means he remains behind bars for that to be prevented then so be it.

James Polson | 8/13/2008, 2:46 pm EST

After hearing of his release I immediately thought he should stay behind bars like everyone else, however after doing research and looking at both sides statements, I think he should be released. I think someone can be rehabilitated and after this many years I think he has. As for Yoko, I think she could forgive as well. I don’t think this man should be compared to Manson.

Cream of the Crap | 8/13/2008, 2:38 pm EST

I say let out Mark David Chapman and put Yoko Ono behind bars in his place.

james in cincinnati | 8/13/2008, 2:31 pm EST

chapman should stay in jail for life but I disagree with the person who says its a conspiracy its been long enough and so many people loved John that they would have found out by now.One nut with a gun can do alot of damage.

Amber Duval | 8/13/2008, 2:03 pm EST

Chapman is a horrible, horrible man and should rot behind bars. It takes someone truely insane to believe that someone isn’t a person, merely a paper cut out. Lennon was a real person and it took Chapman too long to figure that out. He needed to killed to notice that. Because of that I believe instant karma is gonna get him. A man like him has too much baggage and if released, alot of people will be out for him because of what he’s done. I believe not long after he’s released, he will be dead. Leave him in prison, and let him rot in there for the rest of his days. Atleast there it is safer and no one in the community will be in danger, nor will he.

Ghost of John Lennon | 8/13/2008, 1:13 pm EST

All you folks are vindictive bastards. Let him out I say for his crime was so long ago and he has made his peace behind bars. We all need to love one another. Forgive and forget. And to you Brian Gallagher: I don’t speak to you or to your heart. You made yourself believe in yourself - I had nothing to do with that. Truly I believe you need to see a psychiatrist. Keep my memory alive and let peace reign.

Brian Gallagher | 8/13/2008, 12:59 pm EST

This person should never see the light of day because he extinguished on of the brightest lights our generation has ever seen. They should take away his conjugal(sp) visits. Never mention his damned name again. It is so hard for me not to hate this creature of the dark but I do. I loved John Lennon. He spoke to me and my heart. He made me believe in myself. Thanks John and thank you to the rest of the Beatles for the great tunes. Peace.

Dr. Ralph | 8/13/2008, 12:35 pm EST

I say let him out… I want to kill the bastard myself. Slowly

Death | 8/13/2008, 8:05 am EST

Chapman should have been crucified in Central Park

amsterdamman | 8/13/2008, 4:32 am EST

Never mention this man by his name or place a picture. Just called him ‘the murderer of Mr Lennon’.
He was looking for a reason to life and he got it: everybody knows him name and everybody knows his face.

AllYouNeedIsLove | 8/12/2008, 11:32 pm EST

Please note my original posting should have read:

“I agree with all of the comments BELOW.”

Thanks.

Rock Singer | 8/12/2008, 9:54 pm EST

George Harrison once said that “this is the man who’s name we must never mention” what George was trying to say was..The killer want’s notoriety for his unspeakable deed and we shouldn’t give him what he wants. F-him.

Tom | 8/12/2008, 9:26 pm EST

So, while I am by no means advocating or defending Chapman, I do find it to be messed u that, because he killed a loved and respected musician, he will probably never get parole, whereas there are people who kill other ordinary people, yet they are able to be paroled. Does noone else see this as a slight problem?

AllYouNeedIsLove | 8/12/2008, 8:55 pm EST

I agree with all of the comments above. He needs to stay locked up so he does the time and not the poor person who would go after him.

I know I plan to also raise my glass tonight on this parole decision.

Jonathan | 8/12/2008, 8:07 pm EST

It’s sad he even gets his name and mentioned here. If I were the editor, I wouldn’t post his picture and refer to him only as Lennon’s murderer.

carmody | 8/12/2008, 8:00 pm EST

i agree, at this point he’s better off in prison than out on the streets where half the world wants to kill him. if they let him out, he’d probably be dead in a week. there are plenty of people who would restrain themselves and be peaceful, but there are plenty of others who’d be a lot more rash about it. it’d be jack ruby killing oswald all over again

Joe Puma | 8/12/2008, 7:50 pm EST

Good.Chapman’s cowardly act of shooting John in the back with 4 hollow-point bullets deserved the death penalty,if New York had one. He’s been eating 3 meals a day, along with the occasional conjugal visit, for almost 28 years, while Lennon’s family and friends have had to endure the possible threat of this asshole being released.I believe anyone who kills another human being in cold-blood should at least spend the rest of their lives behind bars, whether the murder victim is a celebrity or not.Chapman made a conscious effort to kill a person who was loved and idolized by millions(myself among them)in one of the most chicken-shit methods possible, and to him I say “deal with it”.

Anonymous | 8/12/2008, 7:00 pm EST

ilovejohn and the beatles. they did more good for this world. i hope the scum bag dies in prison. bb

Herby | 8/12/2008, 6:57 pm EST

Raise a glass, the bastard stays behind bars!
Here’s to hoping he rots his pathetic life away in jail

Ryley | 8/12/2008, 6:39 pm EST

If He Gets Out, Someone Will Kill Him.

Schram | 8/12/2008, 6:23 pm EST

I don’t think he should be killed, well I’m pro-life so I’m against it to begin with. I still think Lennon’s death was a conspiracy and I think the government pulled something to make sure he wasn’t protesting anymore.

mk | 8/12/2008, 6:15 pm EST

KEEP HIM BEHIND BARS FOR
LIFE PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
