Readers’ Rock List: One Album Wonders

8/11/08, 2:43 pm EST

Last week, saddened by the split of Wolfmother’s original members, we asked our readers to tell us their favorite albums by artists who only released one album. We’ve counted the votes, and Jeff Buckley’s Grace — the artist’s only official studio album — beat out other One Album Wonders like the Modern Lovers, Sex Pistols and Black Star to take the prize. Check out the the readers’ list below.

1. Jeff Buckley – Grace
2. Sex Pistols – Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols
3. The Modern Lovers – The Modern Lovers
4. Mother Love Bone – Apple
5. The La’s – The La’s
6. Derek & The Dominoes – Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
7. Young Marble Giants – Colassal Youth
8. Black Star – Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star
9. Propellerheads – Decksandrumsandrockandroll
10. David and David – Boomtown

Given Clapton’s track record at the time (no pun intended, or maybe) it should be safe to say
that neither Blind Faith of Derek and the Dominos should count.

uh unless you count her unplugged album, Lauryn Hill’s “Miseducation” should certainly be on there.

Of course Buckley belongs at the top of this list!!!!!

BTW: Mother Love Bone Had 2 albums. SHINE was the first, APPLE was the second.

What! No Pearl Jam? There was a time that they only had one album. At that time, they were the best by a long shot. Rock on!

The omission of Buckner and Garcia’s “Pac-Man Fever” and Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band’s “Hulk Rules” is unforgivable.

its not fair to put sex pistols there b/c that album was not only revolutionary, but, “the great rock and roll swindle” soundtrack featured numerous unreleased sex pistols tracks (both new and remixed). plus, if theyd done a second album, it would have sold a crapload, making them NOT a one hit wonder
