Velvet Revolver’s McKagan Denies Band Hired Langdon as Frontman

8/8/08, 8:55 am EST

Velvet Revolver’s Duff McKagan has denied reports that Spacehog’s Royston Langdon is set to become the band’s new singer: “He’s fucking awesome, at this point I’d have to say no.” McKagan added, “We just have to make sure it’s the right guy,” saying the band has grown closer since they parted ways with Scott Weiland in April. While they wait on their decision for a new singer, the band continues to work on new music. “We have a bunch of stuff finished. It’s great. It’s killer,” McKagan said. And here’s a fun fact: Slash listened to those leaked Chinese Democracy tracks, but McKagan hasn’t, saying “I wouldn’t even know where to look.”

scott weiland, scott weiland, scott weiland… wtf!? you’re all talkin’ ’bout him like he’s god or something-what? other 4 guys worth shit?! they’re goin’ to be fine just need to find a new singer but voice is not only problem - comunicattion n’ understanding are big issues… They didn’t have that with scott “the god” weiland and that’s great if you ask me - he didn’t belong there in the first place, not for a second.

No revival of the old GNR. Axl is to crazy. Let’s face it he’s just a jack ass. VR will put something out but will never be the same. The same is true for STP. They are all done. I feel that there will be a group come forward in the next 5 years that will rival that of a Nirvana, GNR, maybe even the Beetles. But its time. We’ve had a long drought of sissy bands. Its time for a band to come in and blow the others away. Just as previous bands have done before.

I feel bad for VR only because trying to replace Scott is gonna be tough.. Although he needed to part ways because he seemed to not share the same drive, that Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave have! Finding a singer for this band to replace Scott will be very tough to do! But when they do… VR right back it!

These guys don’t need the money or the fame (they have both)so why would they reunite now?

VR needs a new singer and Royston Langdon sounds like a great fit.

Axl needs IZZY to help him write songs that are as good as Appetite(Izzy is the best songwriter of the bunch)

They will wait to reunite until after the money is gone (2015)and by then they will be an oldies act.

Read Slash’s book to find out why GNR is no more. He goes into detail about how Axl being late/ not showing up for concerts, and control issues was a deal breaker.

Scott’s habit of showing up late for performances mirrored Axl’s notoriously erratic performances.

While I love GNR, I understand the loyalty that Duff and Slash have for the fans, and I respect them, too. I think Velvet Revolver is still developing, and I look forward to some more good music down the road.
And Slash’s playing is so phenomenal, he could riff to any melody, and I’d want to listen.
Haven’t listened much to ‘Chinese Democracy’ leaks yet…

I seriously doubt any reunion would involve Steven.

Not a big fan of VR. Their first record had terrible production. Just awful, thin sounding crap. Compare the mixing to that on Appetite for Destruction and you’ll be shocked. How could guys with a 500k production budget make something that sounded so low rent?

Ledzep1 | 8/10/2008, 9:42 am EST

i agree with you PT when it comes to your comment about axl. it is definately his turn to take some action. it seems as you have said that izzy and steven are totally interested in doing some sort of reunion project. the problem is duff, slash, and axl. with velvet revolver gone i really dont know where those slash and duff are gonna go. i believe it is past time for a reunion but all three of guys egos are just too big. that does not mean anything bad about them musically but this velvet revolver breakup may cause some serious talk of a reunion because i just dont think velvet revolver can recover form losing scott weiland.

To your comment LedZep1 it isn’t Steven that is holding back he plays in a GNR cover band sometimes and has always said he is open at anytime for a tour. I’m going to say the ball is in axls court. If he would just swallow a little pride and say look lets put everything in the past, it would at least get everyone talking. He has done some fd up things to the band and there is no reason to list all but here is three pretty good ones. One asking the band to sighn the rights to GNR to him, kicking Slash out of the Vegas “knew” GNR show, and causing a riot in Canada. Also there is Izzy he left the band to get his life in order. I think he is happy just playing in bars and low key areas. He has jammed with all the old GNR orig. 4(this includes axl), but I think he is happy with being on one of the best albums ever to be recorded and being sober. As far as Slash and Duff those dudes are ready to play with a band with good chem. I’ll leave with this I love GNR and WHEN they decide to put their diff aside and rock the world I’ll be there with bells on.

CHICO | 8/10/2008, 2:16 am EST

I honestly don’t care if they reunite but I can’t wait to hear VR again n their new music that Duff was talking about. I’m currently netrual about NEW GNR’s new album Chinese Democracy because with a different roster the music might be outta my taste or in it, until it comes out im neutral about the new albulm

Ledzep1 | 8/9/2008, 8:23 pm EST

steven adler was decent drummer. sadly drummers offer no real part in a serious song writing perspective. i think it will be another 10 years before we see or even hear serious rumours about the band reuniting. i love the original lineup as much as the next guy and i believe strongly that the appetite for destruction is the greatest album of all time but maybe its not the lead singer who is causing problems. after firing two very credible very good singers maybe people should look at the rest of the band. axl was more than a bit crazy but come on.

Lenny the Frog | 8/8/2008, 7:26 pm EST

Getting it back together means…the original five. Matt, you’re a great drummer, but Steven’s the real thing. What on earth do we have to do to get those five lunatics who’d trash down the hell house and made history with that album?

Megatron1 | 8/8/2008, 1:21 pm EST

What ERL said!

Chareth Cutestory | 8/8/2008, 1:01 pm EST

It really would be awesome at this point if they got back together. I don’t think the band (ie Velvet Revolver) has lost anything in terms of quality. Axl is the real question mark. Could he hold it together to get through touring? Could he make a real new GNR album that wouldn’t take over a decade? Everyone knows that it makes sense for them to go on a mega$$$ tour and do a new album. I’d love for them to keep the VR style that is the most reminiscent of Appetite for Destruction. It’s just more straight Rockin’.

Terrance | 8/8/2008, 12:24 pm EST

I’ll have to have a listen to his stuff. It seems by the quote that there is at least some validity to the rumor, even if he is just getting a look.

ERL | 8/8/2008, 11:02 am EST

Bands are a funny thing. The obvious thing would be to just get the band back together. They are going to fuckaround with their petty differences and reunite past their prime. Do you think everyone in the Rollingstones get along? Not so much, they are a band that stuck through the bullshit and amade great music. Come on boys, pull the trigger and get GNR back on the road. Velvet Revolver is good, Axl’s new stuff is good, and when you’re together it’s brilliant. Quit fucking around and call each other.
