  • Metallica spent yesterday in the outskirts of Los Angeles filming a “short film” for Death Magnetic’s first featured track “The Day That Never Comes.” The video was shot by The Celebration director Thomas Vinterberg. Check out photos from the shoot here.

  • Britney Spears‘ father Jamie had his conservatorship over the singer extended for the remainder of 2008, a judge ruled yesterday. Spears can file to terminate the conservatorship at another court date on October 25th, however.
  • John Mayer lobbied for the L.A. City Council to place restrictions on the paparazzi at a hearing yesterday. “I don’t sit before you today to ask that you ban the paparazzi,” Mayer testified, “I’m asking you to regulate it, officialize it, tax it, legitimize it.”
  • A pair of live releases by the Clash will hit shelves in October. The band’s 1982 Shea Stadium concert will come to CD, while a DVD titled The Clash Live – Revolution Rock will collect many of the band’s best performances.
