John Rich Pens John McCain Anthem “Raising McCain”

8/1/08, 8:49 am EST

While Barack Obama has the support of Bruce Springsteen, Wilco, John Mellencamp, Tom Morello and pretty much every rapper, Republican candidate John McCain has managed to lure at least one musician: Big & Rich’s John Rich. Rich has penned a “rock-infused” song for McCain titled “Raising McCain,” focusing on the five-and-a-half years McCain spent in a POW camp in Vietnam. “He stayed strong, stayed extra long ’til they let all the other boys out. Now we’ve got a real man with an American plan, we’re going to put him in the big White House,” go the lyrics. “We’re all just raising McCain.”

Rich will debut the song tomorrow at a concert in Panama City, Florida, with McCain in attendance. “I wanted to offer him something that he didn’t have, a rally song, one that really captures that maverick spirit,” Rich said. While Rich is “proud as an American” that Obama is the Democratic candidate, he said he differed with Obama on major issues and doesn’t think Obama is experienced enough. “The entire world is looking for a way to sucker punch us. National security is absolutely at the top of the list of issues. That’s why I think John McCain is the guy to keep us safe,” Rich said.

Raising McCain is a great tribute to a great American Hero. There’s no better person we could put in office to protect us and our country. He knows the full meaning of freedom. What sacrifices has Obama made for his country? A free Ivy League College? That must have been tough!

phil | 9/5/2008, 10:44 pm EST

Hey Cosmic-loser! McCain is a true American Hero-Unlike your love interest Wesley Clark-What did he ever do? Great song John Rich! Vote MCCain!

V | 9/5/2008, 12:54 pm EST

I am so sad you are supporting McCain in this election. Isn’t anyone concerned with the money we are spending in Iraq while, they are prospering, and we are sinking deeper and deeper in debt?

Also I commend McCain’s war experience but anyone ever heard of PTSD? Please people, lets vote for some real change!!!!!!!!!!!!

wormcreek | 9/5/2008, 7:51 am EST

John McCain is a great american - always has been - always will be Thank you John Rich for putting yourself out there - A lot of bone heads will take a shot at you just because you are there but know that you are appreciated. You are a great person and a great entertainer

McCain is a hero. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t ‘exceptional’ enough just because he got caught. If McCain got caught, was tortured, and came out sane, what do you think would happen to Obama.

Nice song, by the way.

AARGH | 9/1/2008, 12:31 pm EST

How about this?
We’re just in need of a brain
We can’t see that he is the same
so you better tell you’re mama
cause she’s voting for Obama
We’re all just in need of a brain.

John McCain is going to be the next president of the United States of America.

I wonder what John Rich thinks about the jobs America has lost since Fender, the manufacturer of that “American Guitar” he refers to in the video, created “Squier” to manufacture Telecasters and other Fender lines in Indonesia, China, Mexico, etc.? What’s John McCain doing to provide incentives for companies like Fender to keep those jobs here in the USA?

Sandi | 8/27/2008, 1:04 am EST

Great song and what a great interview you did on Larry King. I sent your song to Sean Hannity to have you on his show. You were the most genuine, down to earth supporter for John, I have seen yet. GREAT JOB. VOTE MCCAIN.

I don’t know why all celebrities think that the American public cares about what they have to say about real world issues. They are human just like me, no better, no smarter; they just have a platform to speak their opinion. America, do your own thinking, have your own opinions and cast a well thought-out vote.

cosmic | 8/3/2008, 9:08 pm EST

I don’t know. McCain’s recent ads make him seem like a small man with bad judgement. He hasn’t ever grown up. When he was 50 he was chasing a 25 year old and he still acts immature. He is the one who has a big head and thinks he’s a rock star. Obama isn’t making frivolous comments. I have to agree with Wesley Clark’s comments about what makes a hero and what does not. McCain is not a hero or even a grown man.

Talk about rich | 8/3/2008, 3:19 am EST

Rich’s duo partner, Kenny “Big Kenny” Alphin, contributed $2,300 to the Obama campaign last year.

Joe | 8/2/2008, 10:42 am EST

Breeg, I hear ya, honestly, im disheartened at the whole process. It’s really just another game show or reality show.

TexansCountryFan | 8/2/2008, 8:51 am EST

McCain will lose due in part by his incompetence not his war record. Secondly, Big & Rich doesn’t speak for all Country Music neither does Toby Keith.

HankIIIRules | 8/2/2008, 8:43 am EST

If I want to listen to political Country Songs I’ll listen to Steve Earle or James Mcmurtry not an artist from a pop band in Big & Rich.

Liz Brooker | 8/2/2008, 1:56 am EST

Obama is just a puppet for the Democrat’s agenda. McCain has my vote because he has proven his loyalty to this country. I trust him in leading our GREAT COUNTRY 08′-12′.

Raising McCain | 8/2/2008, 12:42 am EST

Raising McCain is more likely because at least he is on ground level.
With Obama’s head super filled with his own arrogance he is already in the clouds. He doesn’t need to worry about the price of gasoline or fuel because his air head is so big it causes his car and O Force One plane to float like a sailboat.
You supporters be sure to inflate your car tires to save on those energy cost. Haha…what a brillant idea that is. WOW now we won’t have to drill for oil.
You can kiss lower gasoline prices goodbye in the future because the oil companies will move to other countries sell USA oil at higher prices and tell Obama to take his windfall tax and shove it.
Even an elementary school student knows that when taxes are raised on businesses they add that extra cost to the consumer. The higher taxes recyle then to every transportation cost for goods and services. Basic economics 101
Everything including the plastics in you computer casing will increase in price.
This moronic presumed “symbol of American Tradition” is going to bring American Economics into a complete bankruptcy.

By the way this fear tactics the conservatives are playing is that “Fragile ego errupt reaction” It just takes one pin prick of common sense logic and that bubble head Obama ego filled of mere rhetoric thought is going burst like a balloon.

Or is that our new Obama for President slogan F.E.A.R.
Future Endless Arrogant Retard

PS guitar_davey, Obama is going to cut off free trade with your country so smoke that pipe, and by the way butt out…you don’t vote in this country.

Pat | 8/1/2008, 9:16 pm EST

You can trust and believe in John McCain. He is a leader with integrity. He would be the man that you would like to lead our country, and tell your grandchildren about it.

Buster | 8/1/2008, 8:16 pm EST

Can John Rich, the hillbilly, homophobic bigot, do anything else to make himself look more stupid?

bigmack | 8/1/2008, 6:33 pm EST

you can’t even pick a singer muchless a president!

Anon. | 8/1/2008, 6:03 pm EST

Why is someone who was captured as a POW considered to be a “hero”. Personally, I’d prefer someone who was exceptional enough NOT to get caught!

B. Breeg | 8/1/2008, 5:11 pm EST

“umm, breeg, why would another “voter” make you think twice about your choice? ”

That part was a little tounge and cheek. It really won’t affect my decision, but it is disheartening to be falling on the same side as someone who thinks that way.

guitar_davey | 8/1/2008, 4:46 pm EST

“use your brain he is obviously referring to terrorist organizations not canada…moron.”

Thanks for clarifying that andrew, but I’m not an idiot. Oh, by the way, why don’t YOU use some capital letters and some punctuation?

Gary_s | 8/1/2008, 2:33 pm EST

McCain is going to win, face it.

Joe | 8/1/2008, 1:44 pm EST

umm, breeg, why would another “voter” make you think twice about your choice?

Ludacris | 8/1/2008, 1:35 pm EST

McCain shouldn’t be in ANY chair unless he’s paralyzed!

B. Breeg | 8/1/2008, 1:26 pm EST

Wow Barack. You are such a big man for tearing someone down for being tortured in a POW for 5 years. Do you really believe that or does it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to vote a black man into office?

Do you even know what Obama and McCain’s policies are?

I am voting for Barack, but jerk liberals like you make me think twice. Get a grip and show some respect.

Obamaman | 8/1/2008, 12:43 pm EST

McCain is terrible. Experience means nothing. Obama would keep us safe! Thats why he switched his position on what to do in Afghanistan three times in the last month. Oh and he’s got the homefront covered too! By raising taxes, the economy will definitely be stimulated enough to recover. A vote for Obama is definitely not a shot in the foot!

One nation
Under a warmonger
With ignorance and fear for all

Barack | 8/1/2008, 11:44 am EST

What I think John Rich is basically saying with this song, is that he’ll do anything to prevent a black person from getting into the White House. I don’t know about you, but I think someone that was mentally tortured for 5 years in ANOTHER war that shouldn’t have been waged isn’t heroic at all–he’s insane! I wouldn’t let McCain run a nursing home, much less the USA!

Cowboy Bob | 8/1/2008, 11:16 am EST

Heeee Hawwww! That there Obama may have Bruce Springstreet and Meloncamp but we have Big & Rich in our corner I tells ya. The dynamic duo yessiree bob. They wear their cowboy hats nice and proud and now a good candidate when they sees one. That McCain knows what he’s talking about. Heck, he’s been in Vietnam and was a prisoner of war. Can Obama say that? Who knows what them gooks did to him. McCain is a leader and Jesus is his vice president by golly. And if them terrorists gonna mess with us, McCain is the man to handle it. Just listen to Big & Rich the superstars and they speak it the truth. God bless teh USA and God bless John McCain.

guitar_davey | 8/1/2008, 10:18 am EST

“The entire world is looking for a way to sucker punch us. National security is absolutely at the top of the list of issues. That’s why I think John McCain is the guy to keep us safe,”

Ah yes, the culture of fear is alive and well. Sitting here in Canada, I just can’t stop thinking about how I’m going to sucker punch the USA when it’s not looking. IDIOT!
