David Archuleta Debuts First Single “Crush”

8/1/08, 1:05 pm EST

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta premiered his first single “Crush” this morning on New York pop radio station Z100. The track starts out sounding like Chris Brown singing a Max Martin-penned Backstreet ballad before blossoming into a lush chorus reminiscent of JoJo’s “Too Little Too Late.” Ten years ago, this song — which was co-written by onetime Evanescence member Dave Hodges — might have been a hit. Now, it’s something you’d expect from an American Idol silver medalist. Your move, Cook. Archuleta’s debut album is due out later this year on Jive Records. Listen to “Crush,” which will be available as a digital download on September 2nd, here.

UPDATE: The digital release for Archuleta’s single has been moved to August 12th.

I’m so happy to come across this section to see the fools that said Crush didn’t cut it and would flop. Crush is a smash hit and David Cook is tuning up his bartending skills. Light On Cooks first single is a failure x2. Cornell should have stuck to dissing Cook because now Cornell and Cook look like yesterdays leftovers. Youger David = Star with a smash hit. Older David = out of tune dried up bartender, at least the older one got to claim a trampy hasbeen for his arm dangler. Im sure I will enjoy coming back here when Archie’s album outsells Cook OHH Wait IT HAS BEEN FOR WEEKS…. No need for me to return here.

Meaghan | 11/7/2008, 11:59 am EST

BadKarma4U | 10/12/2008, 2:10 am EST

Hey, Rolling Stone! Guess u got this one wrong, eh? David’s Crush made a smashing #2 Hot 100 debut and is still selling like crazy! Nearing 700K in week 9 and will be platinum by its 14th week! Top 40 airplay #14, AC #15, BB POP 100 #18! Oh, and guess who’s #1 on VH1’s Top 20 Music Video Countdown? Yep, you guess it! Crush! Not that you guys have the stones (pardon the pun) to admit that you were wrong about Crush not being a hit in today’s market…but it would be nice to see some balance here re: Cook and Archuleta. Do you like Cook’s “Light On?” Well, that one be lucky to sell even 60% as much as Crush did in its first 2 weeks. Sorry to disappoint you guys. Cheers! David Archuleta, the album, drops on 11/11/08–Save The Date!

DavidFan4Ever | 10/10/2008, 6:06 pm EST

PJ | 9/20/2008, 5:34 pm EST

Humm, No.1 in 18hr 52min for Itunes song and one day for Itunes video download. Hits no.2 on Billboard Hot 100 hits in its first week of release, highest debut in 18 months. Rolling Stone must have a high standard for calling a song a hit or they are just a bunch of old farts from the 60’s that have lost touch with todays music. What more can be expected from a publication that slamed all of Led Zeppelin’s albums. That group never had a hit either dod it? what a joke Stone has become.

Anonymous | 9/12/2008, 6:25 pm EST

I LOVE THIS SONG! David Archuleta has a great voice! I noticed that since this single came out, radio stations have been playing David Cook’s song a lot. I think they need to remind people that he won AI. LOL. He was quickly forgotten. David Archuleta will go further than him. GO DAVID ARCHULETA! I’VE BEEN YOUR BIGGEST FAN SINCE YOUR FIRST AUDITION ON AMERICAN IDOL!!!! YOU ARE ADORABLE!

hannah | 8/27/2008, 8:37 pm EST

David- I love u so much and i have been a HUGE fan from the start!!!!
I love your song to!!!!! Crush is my new favorite song!!! and i wanted you to know that i have a crush on you!!!!!!

Barbarat74 | 8/13/2008, 4:27 pm EST

Ive always been a DA lover, after the very first time I saw Him try out on AI, and never missed a show, LIKE I, could not wait to see the next show to see him,and hear him sing again, He deserves praise. He is sweet, humble, and has so much talent, this is very refreshing. THe name callers mistake his innocence as a lack of maturity, This new star is just starting to shine, and well on his was to being a Super Nova

Rhett | 8/12/2008, 6:17 pm EST

Great track. Great Voice. Finally, an artist that can actually sing.

RS, whats wrong with you ? First negative review I’ve read. Not good, especially since he’s already #3 on Itunes and should easily land #1 by days end.

Crush#1 | 8/11/2008, 3:32 pm EST

but his website that tomorrow 12
Crush is on Itunes and Amazon..?

To JackSmack | 8/11/2008, 2:04 pm EST

JackSmack, 42 million votes are not giving to someone by luck, my dear! People voted for this adorable kid because he earned! He was born with a God-given vocal gift that has been crafted through hard work and dedication. And his transferring emotion is something you can’t practice, he really feels it. This kid (as said in AI) can sing anything –such mature and stirring musicality, phrasing, soul and brilliant vocals.

He had me at “Waiting on the World to Change” and my admiration just grows. Despite what his critics say (a few bitter people like you), the kid is the real deal. He is not a pop idol flavor-of-the-month, but a serious artist who will change the music industry for the better.

Crush is fresh, fun, catchy pop song with an ageless message and that voice… you can´t find a voice like that in the market. I think the next time David reads his Billboard charts he might be surprised at the name he finds at the top, but we won’t.

Go, David! | 8/10/2008, 12:08 pm EST

I´m pretty sure that David Archuleta will be a 1st runner up that will overshadow the Idol winner of the season. I think that David Cook will have his run as the title winner, sell a CD or two… David Archuleta, on the other hand, is a Star! He is on a completely different plateau of talent. This little guy has the whole package: the voice, the technical skills, the passionate expressivity, the joy, the talent, the good looks, the youth… all these qualities give us a glimpse of who he will become as an artist and, from my perspective, it´s a pretty exciting picture… He certainly will be making some damn good music for a long, long time which will captivate everybody, from kids to grannies!
It’s also nice to hear a 17 year old sing age-appropriate lyrics. Very nice.
(although, as said many times before, he could sing the book phone and do amazing!)
Crush is a really catchy pop song, with great vocals from David as expected!

By the way, I heard ‘rumours’ about “Crush” being #1 on Z100’s 9@9 Countdown. So David unseated the Jonas Brothers –they had been #1 every single day since July 3rd!

cat | 8/10/2008, 9:13 am EST

Rolling Stone,

I bet you wished now you had waited a bit before coming out with this review. Yours is the only one I’ve seen that doesn’t speak highly of Archuleta’s first single.

Dan | 8/9/2008, 10:45 pm EST

“Crush” is a great first-release for David Archuleta, who is a talented young man with a major voice and a nice disposition and winning smile to boot. He’ll go far, no matter what Rolling Stone says about his first effort.

bob archuletta | 8/8/2008, 7:41 pm EST

David archuleta has a lot of talent
and a great personality he will go far if he wants it

grace | 8/7/2008, 2:28 am EST

People overanalyze this song. It’s an easy listening, very catch and fun song. Good for the freshman. There have been many positive reviews, and even some anti-Archuleta bloggers (during the AI show)admit it positively. On reviewing many comments on various websites, I’ve found that 99% of readers acknowledge David’s vocal talent, but some think this song doesn’t show off his vocals. Do not think this song totally represents who David is as a musician. His first album will contain every aspect of David’s talent and satisfy all his fans, young & old.

Amy | 8/6/2008, 3:55 pm EST

LOVE THE SONG. please don’t go the “miley” route. love david archuleta such a pure, HOTT, and amazing young man.

me | 8/6/2008, 3:51 pm EST

This song is awesome! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SAY HE’S GAY! HE’S NOT! HE’S SAID HE’S BEEN ON DATES BUT JUST NEVER HAD A GIRLFRIEND!

Kelsee | 8/5/2008, 11:40 pm EST

LOVED the song! It was very different then what he usually sings. He showed his young side in this song, instead of the usual mature ballad. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the ballads too! However, I hope his album has both slow and fast songs!

Violet | 8/5/2008, 11:33 pm EST

I love Crush as do my sisters, my nieces age 14 and 21, my sister’s husband, and even my 4-year old niece who was mesmerized while listening to it. I don’t expect everyone to like Crush or any particular song by anyone, but there are a ton of us out here are thrilled to get some fun current music from Archie. I think he is a really fine human being, and I love his voice and the way he sings. I can’t wait for his CD album.

fenny | 8/5/2008, 9:51 pm EST

Sorry to disappoint you all but Crush just hit #1 on the nightly Top 9 at 9 on Z-100 in New York. Digital download is available August 12, not Sept 2nd as incorrectly stated in Rolling Stone.

Chariee | 8/5/2008, 5:33 pm EST

The song makes me gag and not in a fun kinda way. I always thought the kid was sort of creepy when he was on the show and this song just confirms it. How can a kid that says he’s never kissed a girl, had a date, or anything sing a song about a crush?

UNLESS he HAS kissed someone, and it wasn’t a GIRL. LOL!!! So little girls, keep you fantasies going but I’m afraid in the future you’ll be real disappointed. Can we say Clay Aiken Part II? Why yes, we can!

JackSmack | 8/5/2008, 5:24 pm EST

Let me educate you a little here Kreps.

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED to have an opinion about David Archuleta! His fans will mow you down like old hay. See how they are pouncing? Of course, judging from the spelling and sentence structure it appears they are either 1) 11 years old OR 2)have a collective IQ of about 75.

This so-called song couldn’t pass for music if it was piped into a Iraqi torture chamber. Hey there’s a thought, let’s play it at Gitmo for 24 hours straight. All those dudes will simply commit suicide and save the taxpayers millions of dollars.

It’s a sucky song by a kid who lucked up and came in second on a reality TV show. Hey, maybe his manager (aka DAD) thought it would be a hit. At least they edited out the kids habit of heavy breathing and thank god we don’t have to watch him lick his chapped lips.

If daddy dearest wants to pigeonhole this kid with pop crap, expect his career to fade by the time he is 20. He’ll be the next child star gone amiss…LOL, maybe we’ll see him on Celebrity Rehab.

So watch your back Kreps my friend. You may find yourself bombarded with pudding and chewed up bubblegum in the not too distant future.

Ciao.

Connie | 8/5/2008, 12:41 pm EST

David has said all along that he hopes to have a mix of “radio” and more soulful songs on his album. I am sure he will have something for everyone! His label has some control over what they want him to include. This is a fun song for everyone but is aimed at his age group. I have no doubt that he will also have more soulful ballads on his album! It will be great! I agree that this song gets stuck in my head and you can’t help moving with the beat! Thanks David for sharing your gift with all of us! I love that smile!

Love | 8/5/2008, 11:41 am EST

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this kid!!!!! I saw him perform in Atlantic City and he was AMAZING!!!!!!!! His performance was top notch and the screams for him were deafening!!! My best wishes to this amazing artist who is truly talented and inspirational…..not to mention a good person who truly cares about people.

Becky | 8/4/2008, 11:47 pm EST

As a mother and musician, I appreciate David Archuleta! This song has a catchy tune and lyrics that I don’t have to worry about. Don’t you remember what it was like to have a crush on someone? NOT LUST THEM!!! Thanks David for making music that is fun for the whole family! My 14 year old daughter and 5 year old daugther have the song memorized!

I must agree that the competition between the Davids has been over for months. They were the first to tell you that their musical stylings were different. . .apples to oranges. But follow their lead!!! They are both supportive of and respectful of each other, as we must be… not only for them but for each other.

Archuleta has real talent and is intoxicating. True talent is hard to find. Archuleta is a role model our children can look up to! Maybe with Archuleta on the air waves, I can finally listen to something other than Radio Disney!!!

Way to go, David! And THANKS!!!

archiefan | 8/4/2008, 11:13 pm EST

i kind of have to agree with the review. i’m a big fan of Archie cuz I know how amazing he is. i think this song sounds pretty fluffy, generic, and overproduced. it’s really made for mass consumption for teens on the radio. maybe that’s what he wanted. it’s nice to listen to but i want to hear his voice more…not that produced sound…i’m still getting his album. i hope there’s more than fluffy pop on there….

NeutralFan | 8/4/2008, 4:59 pm EST

Since when rolling stone have been accurate in their reviews, they can barely sell magazines anymore. We should go by what people think in general. Shame on the haters like “Trashy Fan” because that only shows the emptyness in their lives, there’s nothing wrong with being critical but being disgusting is just for losers.

Connie | 8/4/2008, 4:35 pm EST

I am a 45 year old with a 21 year old son and a 19 year old daughter. I have listened to the song over and over and like it more each time! David has an amazing talent and an amazing spirit about him! His goodness is what attracts his fans of all ages to him. I for one, wish him the best and will do my part to support his career by buying his CD! And yes, David did his fans proud!

This is a very harsh review. I am a fan of David’s, and I agree that the song wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. But it will definately be a hit. Its one of those songs that even if you hate it, you can’t get it out of your head. David, however, is capable of far better than this. I would rather have him sing songs with better messages and more vocal difficulties, but that will come in time. Now David just needed to prove that he could be his age, and he did.

Overall, I found this review semi-accurate but much too harsh. David is a great vocalist, and the z100 version of Crush was over-produced, that is certain. There is another version on a radio site though that is less produced, and a much better listen.

Jessica | 8/4/2008, 4:28 pm EST

David Archuleta is like birthday cake. At first it’s all exciting and delicious. Then once you’ve eaten about 3 pieces, all that sugar starts to make you gag. I liked him on Idol at first but after a while the aw shucks sugary sweet stuff started to make me sort of sick. Crush is just another dose of pop syrup for the tweens who will be on to the “next” teen guy in 6 months.

Sarah | 8/4/2008, 4:24 pm EST

What on earth was JIVE thinking? They take a talented kid like David Archuleta and give him a crappy song for his debut? He sounds just like Chris Brown…and we’ve already got one of those and about 50 others that sound just like him. !

Hallie | 8/4/2008, 4:21 pm EST

No american idol is ever going to make a good album of music and he’s certainly not going to be the first.

BRAVO Rolling Stone! Finally someone is willing to print the truth. CRUSH is an over-synthesized retread of worn out pop songs. These are a dime a dozen and they take absolutely zero talent to produce. David A. is FAR BETTER than this ridiculous song.If his entire CD turns out to be this digitized crap, expect a repeat of the Blake Lewis fiasco of 2007…CRUSH is the stuff that a flash in the pan is made of.

Stephanie | 8/4/2008, 11:49 am EST

I lovee Crush. Although, even though the song is catchy and will get a lot of airplay, I feel that David could’ve sang something to show his talent better. But, he’s gotta do what’s popular.

SallyB | 8/4/2008, 10:41 am EST

I enjoy all types of music and pop is one of them. I like David A.’s “Crush” and think it will do well on the radio.

I am glad David is trying something different and think he should be singing songs like this.

He has many years ahead of him to try different types of songs- heaven knows he can sing any type. As he evolves he will find a style that he feels most comfortable with. I believe his fans will be there to support him through this journey.

I also like David Cook and believe there is no way to try and compare the two together in their singing styles. I am happy the competition is over. If you think about it - they are both winners!!!!

ms. archuleta :) | 8/4/2008, 9:40 am EST

omg! I LOVE DAVID JAMES ARCHULETA!! hizz new single “CRUSH” izz amazing. it’s my fav song. hizz voice izz still unbelieveable!!!! he should’ve won american idol. i cant wait for david’s CD to come out!!!! im buying it..FOR SURE!! and i have a crush on david too!! sshhh..:) he seems like an awesome guy. i love him! i love him! i love him! i love him! i love him! i love him! I LOVE DAVID JAMES ARCHULETA!!

davidarchuletafan | 8/4/2008, 9:13 am EST

I agree that there should no longer be comparing the David. Everyone will also like one or the other better as with an 2 singers. However just because the started on the same platform they won’t end there. Cook is going to rock and Archuleta is going to pop by the way pop means popular and popular music will always be popular that is why it is called popular genius. Crush would have sold 10 years ago it will sell now and it will sell for years in the future.

its catch fluff. not gonna get song of the year but could be top 10 because its archie and it’s catchy a bit. plus his fans are crazy.

archangel162 | 8/3/2008, 7:08 pm EST

Okay…here’s the deal, we get that you don’t like the song or Archie but you shouldn’t compare this phenomonal singer to a great performer. American Idol has been over for months now, and the Archie and Cook are in two completely different boats. However, they will both do well because they both have the support of their own fans as well as each others fans. True Cook fans will support Archie as well, and true Archie fans will support Cook, too. These boys have a bond, and have not been afraid to show the love in the spotlight - so let’s learn take the hint from them and just keep it cool.

Derek | 8/3/2008, 6:33 pm EST

I really like it. I can’t get it out of my head.

Crushin' on David A's "Crush | 8/3/2008, 5:30 pm EST

I may wind up with a dozen posts, but for some reason I can’t seem to get mine through.

I love the song and David. His vocals are so lush, and the subject matter, while appropriate for his age, is something that we can all relate to. I’ve had the dang song on repeat since I first listened to it.

bloodshy87 | 8/3/2008, 5:25 pm EST

i like it!

Crushin' on David A's "Crush | 8/3/2008, 5:06 pm EST

I love the song, despite the fact that I’m too old to listen to most from David’s age group. He captures those heady first feelings so well, and in that lush voice, and the song takes me back and makes me FEEL. Plus, the chorus is SO catchy, with lyrics geared toward the demographic David should be trying to reach. (With fans like me along for the ride.) Don’t think I could ask for more from David’s first effort.

As for your review, I’m with the 95% of posters who don’t agree. I especially dislike the Cook/Archuleta comparisons. The two guys have lead the way by openly supporting each other. Loving this earlier post:

I don’t know, Mr. Kreps. Somehow, I don’t think either David looks at his music career as if it were a chess game to be won or lost to the other David. Perhaps you are still wrapped up in the competition that was over months ago for the Davids and, more recently, for the rational fans.

Read the fansites; you can barely discern the bias among the fans discussing the release of Crush. DC’s fans are pulling for Archie’s success, and no doubt, the reverse will be true when DC releases music. Do you know why? Because this is standard set by both Davids. Thank goodness. Graciousness and class wins in the end.

Damian | 8/3/2008, 3:56 pm EST

Nobody should be surprised by the overwhelmingly negative response to this shallow/glib piece of magazine “filler”. Music lovers across the age/race/nationality spectrum (51 yr old Canadian male here) recognize the unique talent that David Archulta has. I will certainly be buying multiple copies of his CD (as will millions of others).

This is not a competition anymore, its time to move on and leave the kid alone. I wish you journalist would have an objective view and act like mature adults. David Archuleta acts more responsibly than you people who are hating him. What have you agains at 17 yr old kid with so much talent who loves and have the passion for music? You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. This young man is one of a kind in the generation of many teens we have. The day will come when you haters are going to eat your words!

Brittany | 8/3/2008, 12:19 pm EST

David Archuleta’s song is AMAZING!!!!! It’s a hit RIGHT NOW…not for 10 years ago!! It’s a perfect song for him, very relateable, and so good!!

Holly. | 8/3/2008, 11:27 am EST

This song really says what goes through a teenagers mind and its catchy (and addicting!!), thats why everyone will LOVE IT.

Many Archuleta fans are also Cook fans, myself included. There is no rivalry between them, Cook will do well and so will Archuleta.. Everyone wants to see them do well.

Once again, it will be a hit and everyone will love it. I know people who have never really heard David sing and have loved the song. =]

Archuleta’s Crush is beyond what everyone else expected from a 17 year old who mostly did ballads on the show. AI is over!!! so there are no “moves” necessary for the two davids as they are incomparable to each other.

I’m guessing you’re not fit for your job mr. krapppy. Do you even listen to music at all? Just watch and see and eat your krappy words as Archie and his single hits #1 all over the world!

PS. It’s already beginning to be popular here in the Philippines. What can you say about that now, pop hater?

Go ARCHIE! Angels all over the world will support you all the way!

I am old enough to be most everyone’s grandpa here. My 12 year old son AND I both love David A’s singing. Part of his appeal is his genuine humility. He seems to be truly surprised by his talent and success. Look at some of his early videos on You Tube. This guy LOVES music. Not only is Crush a great song for him, it makes us both excited to feel the the enormous potential of David’s talent. Yes, he will grow and mature as an artist. OMG. If he is this good at this age, we are all in for a great experience from him in the future.

Archiefan | 8/2/2008, 4:15 pm EST

Sam Lim, thank you so much for pointing that out, I agree 100 percent! Crush is a phenomenal debut from an amazing artist, this might be only my opinion, but if you are not an Archie fan, don’t read articles about him. Good luck, David, can’t wait for the full album!!

ReadMyMind | 8/2/2008, 2:44 pm EST

The song was great! But, I am hoping that someone will come up with a classic hit for him that will showase all of his magnificent vocals…It is the hits such as he sang on AI that showed us how original he is and how he can sing the hits sometimes better then the original artists…How about the writers for Celine Dion writing something for his voice and will be extraordinary…like he is…He doesn’t need to build up to his capabilities but continue them from AI…The young teens liked him for the songs he sang then so why not continue with the maturity of those songs?

THE NEW KING OF POP - FOR NEW GENERATION HAS ARRIVED !

DON’T FORGET TO DOWNLOAD IT IN iTUNE on 8/12.

Gregory | 8/2/2008, 12:50 pm EST

About ‘the song is decent, nothing special’. While I can agree that there’s nothing special in the song, I also very anxious to hear live version of it. I also may say that One Republic’s ‘Apologize’ also not so special, but DA created a work of art from it on AI Live concerts

SkipToTheMusic | 8/2/2008, 12:49 pm EST

Not what his fans hyped everyone up for……..big let down. I hope the Album has something better.

Sam Lim | 8/2/2008, 12:41 pm EST

To All Young Fans Of Archie, Archies Angels and Arch Angels and Angels Allover the World

If you read a negative article written about David Archuleta - JUST LAUGH IT OFF DON’T FEEL BAD OR AFFECTED AT ALL AND DON’T TAKE THE BAIT - IT SHOWS THAT DAVID ARCHULETA IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE POPULAR AS EVER NOT ONLY IN THE U.S. BUT ALLOVER THE WORLD.

I CAN GUARANTEE YOU THOSE HATER OR COLUMNIST WHO WRITE NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT HIM ARE 100% COOK FANS - NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO TO TRY TO ATTACH DAVID COOK TO DAVID ARCHULETA TO GET A PUBLICITY - THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT ARCHIE IS MUCH MORE POPULAR AND BANKABLE THAN DAVID COOK - IN A LONG RUN ITS HURING DAVID COOK IF HE CONTINUE ATTACHING HIMSELF TO DAVID ARCHULETA FOR PUBLICITY HE IS LOOSING HIS IDENTITY.

THAT WILL HURT DAVID COOK FOR DAVID ARCHULETA CAN STAND ON HIS OWN WITHOUT USING ANYONE ELSE FOR PUBLICITY.

CRUSH IS PHENOMENAL !

THE NEW KING OF POP - FOR THE NEW GENERATION HAS ARRIVED !

jdatu | 8/2/2008, 12:27 pm EST

Great!

--no games, just sports-- | 8/2/2008, 12:26 pm EST

wow, the fanboys are out in force

the song is decent, nothing special. come on folks….it’s trite, it’s been done, it’s decently written, but tell me how it is anything original or special?

DA wasnt that greeat on AI, and thats the truth. he could do one type of song, and when he strayed from that format, he suffered. the kid has a good voice - good, not great - but after his first album, i cant see him having a viable career as a pop artist. he could do well down the road as adult contemporary, but he better learn how to live as a songwriter until then

AC | 8/2/2008, 12:10 pm EST

Not a tween or teen here…I love David’s song “Crush”..He could sing “Mary Had a Freak’en Little Lamb” and make it sound good. He is a super star and legend in the making. I am a Fan for Life. I attended the A.I. concert just because of him and I’ll tell you..I have never heard anyone sing like that boy can and connect to a song and to the listener. He has a rare “gift”.

samrlim | 8/2/2008, 12:01 pm EST

I believe I am not the only one whose noticing this if the fans of David Cook and the media who favor Cook to stop comparing him or attaching him to David Archuleta it will serve David Cook well - It seems Cook need to attach himself all time to David Archuleta name to promote himself or for publicity and Cook is loosing his identity and I believe in the long run its hurting himself. And I know you cannot deny that David Archuleta is much more popular and bankable and can stand on his own without his name attach to anyone else. If I were Mr. Cook he need to distance himself and he need to stand on his own now for after AI Tour I don’t think they will be able to used David Archuleta name to promote himself for publicity.

***below not above***

Ronna91 | 8/2/2008, 11:43 am EST

Crush is frickin amazing! I love that song soo much and David Archuleta sings it beautifully! this song is going to be a hit!

designer4davida | 8/2/2008, 11:39 am EST

Archuleta is awesome. Love the song and can’t wait for the album. Ditto all the Archie love written above. Just can’t get enough of this kid! (I’m not 12 either… 58.)

rita | 8/2/2008, 10:20 am EST

Mr. Kraps,
You’re a sly one! I think you are now very much aware of the phenomenon that David Archuleta and his martketability have become. I am seeing a trend here, bash David A. in your article and get flooded with comments! Great way to get attention for yourself huh?!! About the song, bet your still hearing it in your head, huh?!! Yeah, you know it - HIT SONG - MAJOR!!

JOE | 8/2/2008, 9:16 am EST

Crush is perfect for ARCHULETA!

:)

Amy | 8/2/2008, 8:14 am EST

CRUSH is a fantastic first release. David selected a song that will appeal to his extremely diverse fan base. It is a great song for a 17 year old to sing to become established on the TOP 40 radio waves.

This kid, albeit 17, is extremely intelligent. He can sing any genre and his talent and platinum future is undeniable.

kiefsie | 8/2/2008, 5:23 am EST

oh, think twice before make an article. both david are great but different genres.
you compare Michael Jordan to Tiger Woods.both are great on sport but different. you see?

Thanh Huong | 8/2/2008, 4:40 am EST

I’ve been keeping listening to Crush non-stop.haha
I’ve got addicted to it.
P/S: I’m 30 years old and I’m from Viet Nam

Martha | 8/2/2008, 4:34 am EST

I am loving Crush so much! I have listened to this song all day long, literally, because I was up at 4:40 am listening to the Z100 live stream. And, I am not the only one… so many people around the world have been affected by David Archuleta in such a special way…and I feel lucky…and I feel honored…and I feel blessed…that I get to listen to David and connect with David through his music… and each time he performs a song, with all of that raw emotion and vulnerability…I am in awe…and all I can say is WOW! So this is why this critic’s opinion is so foreign to me. And, it makes me sad that he has not had the privelege I’ve had, of truly experiencing the magnificence of the artistry of David Archuleta.

Anonymous | 8/2/2008, 3:26 am EST

I don’t know what planet this Daniel Kraps music critic is on. He probably thinks that Celine Dion has a weak voice or something.

David’s first pop song has more replayability than anything I’ve listened to in quite a while and he even manages to show off a litte of his incredible voice in this up-tempo song: a feat that many, many other artists have no hope of matching. Those runs…amazing.

2008archudorable | 8/2/2008, 2:42 am EST

totally showcase another side of him! You can’t expect an awesome song when the album is totally rushed but he made the song incredible!

C | 8/2/2008, 2:34 am EST

Um, do you have hearing problems? Have you heard some of the crap playing on our radio stations these days? Gosh, seriously! Before you try & insult one of the most loved guys in the world right now, I think you should think twice & compare it to some of the songs that’re “hot” right now. I’m not going to mention any names, but I can certainly imagine that you can think of a few in a matter of seconds.

A peice of advice;
Think before you type.

Nicole O | 8/2/2008, 2:27 am EST

well, there’s not much left for me to say after reading all these comments. I agree with pretty much all of them, especially Baobab’s and Anne Hunt’s.

You, Daniel Kreps, are going to eat your words once “Crush” hits number 1 on ALL the charts. I’m surprised you were hired by a prestigious magazine like Rolling Stone since you obviously have no musical taste.

Elise | 8/2/2008, 2:04 am EST

I LOVE DAVID’S NEW SONG!!!!!! Its an amazing song and i have been replaying it on my computer all day non stop. Horrible music isnt put on repeat so i can hear it over and over.

island archangel | 8/2/2008, 2:04 am EST

Mr. Kreps - How would you like your crow served?

Crush has #1 chart topper written all over it. For a supposed “music critic”, you seem shockingly out of touch - I guess the emphasis is more on “critic” and not so much on “music”.

David’s fans hail from all points around the globe and bridge all gaps in age, gender, language, and musical genre - united in the absolute certainty that what we feel when David sings, is emotion so pure and perfect and real that it defies explanation.

The David Archuleta Express has left the station - next stop - #1 on the charts! So sorry you’ve been left behind.

DUDE - CAN - SING!!!!!

baseballmomtx | 8/2/2008, 1:39 am EST

The contest is over, enough with the comparisons of the David’s. They both are going to be big in their own genre of music. “Crush” is a great song for David. He is having a lot of fun with it and so are his fans. This is only the tip of the iceberg for him. I personally cannot wait to see what David has in store for the world over the next few years. I really believe that we are in for a huge treat.

jeancat | 8/2/2008, 1:32 am EST

i love crush–you compare it to chris brown and jojo and then call it outdated–wth i’d call it current. its young and fresh just what davids first single should be-its going to be a huge hit. cant wait for the album. congrats david:)

vanessa | 8/2/2008, 1:29 am EST

heh. I’m obsessed with this song. It’s addicting

Taylor | 8/2/2008, 1:17 am EST

Congratz on the catchy tune, DAVID:)
I cant stop listening to it!!!!!
I WISH THE BEST FOR BOTH DAVIDS:)
LOVE YOU BOTH:)

the hatin’ is gettin’ tirin’:(

Kelsey | 8/2/2008, 1:16 am EST

Gosh! How could you be so mean! I absolutely love his song! I woke up at 4:00am just to listen to the premiere and it was totally worth it! Everything about it is amazing. Your review is WRONG! What did David ever do to you? You must have bad taste in music if you don’t like David’s song. And yet you people are treating the Jonas Brothers like royalty. They aren’t even good! They use their looks and they’re bubblegum pop music to manipulate fans. And David can actually sing unlike the Jonas Brothers. I’ll be laughing at you and all the other haters when David’s single is #1 and when he accepts his grammy.

tyler | 8/2/2008, 1:01 am EST

Awesome song by an Incredible Artist

OMG | 8/2/2008, 12:51 am EST

ROLLING STONE! I’ve taken ur mag for 22 years! I can’t believe your review of “Crush!” Mean-spirited, overly-harsh, non-subtantive–irrelevant. Your analogies are most strange and confusing. Not spot-on at all. This thing is rocking the internet. Plus, I have inside info/contacts with about a dozen radio station managers/program directors from LA to Toronto, and from the email traffic I’ve seen, the “HIT” to “NOT A HIT” opinion ratio is running about 90/10. I’m not sure what you are listening to, but everybody knows that David Archuleta can sing his face off! There are hooks and a bridge here, as well–which is more than I can say for most music today (stuff u probably revere, lmao!). “Your Move, Cook?” What is that? How rude, as if he’s gonna vanquish this little wide-eyed 17 y/o uber-talent. Are u kidding me?!? David Archuleta is an instant classic–no matter the material (which I think is good here, btw). That can’t be said for Cook. Time will tell, but I fear that you’re gonna be on the wrong side of history, my friend.

Queen Marilou | 8/2/2008, 12:41 am EST

Congratulations, David on your first hit single!!! You made all your fans from all over the world so proud!!! i got a CRUSH on you!!!

Shari | 8/2/2008, 12:40 am EST

Brilliant! This coming from someone who doesn’t even like pop music. Archuleta and Cook are both going to do great. They both have a huge fan base that will support them. Archie’s, don’t blame all the Cook fans for this imbecile’s negative review. There are many Cook fans out there that respect Archie as we Angels do. Crush is definitely going to be a #1 hit. This young man is a superb artist and I’m sure everything he does musically will be a huge success and I can’t wait to witness it as one of his biggest fans!

intherealworld | 8/2/2008, 12:37 am EST

Wow, you know he’s not awful but my god I hope anyone who likes this isn’t over 12. He’s very superficial and, let’s be serious, if he grew his hair out he’d be Michael Bolton. Listen to some Bob Dylan, Pixies, Portishead….something, anything decent and get some taste.

No american idol is ever going to make a good album of music and he’s certainly not going to be the first.

Chocomel | 8/1/2008, 11:38 pm EST

I respectfully disagree with your assessment of “Crush.” This song fits right in with the mainstream radio music today, which has its share of mid-tempo pop. “Crush” is age appropriate & proof that he can create radio-friendly tunes. I am willing to bet that had Archuleta taken a different direction on his first single, he would be ridiculed for taking on material too mature for his age. However, I knew your review should not be taken too seriously the moment you brought David Cook into the picture. Last time I checked, AI Season 7 was over back in May. I think it’s time to move on.

samrlim | 8/1/2008, 11:33 pm EST

Columnist of this Article I can guarantee you 200 % is a David Cook Fans - I bet you.

David Archuleta Fans just laugh it off no matter how hard they try - David Archuleta is PHENOMENAL ! If you notice they always attach ARCHIES NAME when they want to promote Cook for DAVID ARCHULETA HAS A BIGGER FAN BASE WHICH IS ALLOVER THE WORLD and much more popular than Cook. I just can’t wait AI TOUR to end and see what will happened to David Cook for they will go on there own by then.

wellington yee | 8/1/2008, 11:31 pm EST

Amazing! But some how that doesn’t seem enough to say! Archie really score a knockout with CRUSH! Don’t know how Archie does it BUT he does! If listen to the lyrics, it’s a song that connects to EVERYONE, I mean EVERYONE of ALL ages and gender! The pronoun “I” is gender neutral – whoever is saying it. Amazing, truly Amazing!

Females/girls – You hope he’s sing it to you and I know you are singing it back to him. For the married women it reminds you and your mate first met or courting; and YES maybe rekindle the flame. For the single women, it gives encouragement that one day you will find that special person. And for the grandnannies – they know what’s all about!

And you guys BETTER write a “thank you” to ARCHIE. Why? Cause I’m a guy too. Most of us don’t really know what or how to say ROMANTIC stuff. So listen NOW – Just get the ARCHIE - CRUSH single and say “Listen to this!” Archie’s song will take over and convey your thoughts!!!!! Priceless! For you married guys, you know what’s like – keep it up!

For the little ones, ONE day I hope you will be able to say that about a Special person.

And yes, for those who are… It works too!!!?

Like I said a song for EVERYONE! Amazing job ARCHIE!!!!! A Knockout, a Grandslam! A Revelation from Heaven! Like Randy says, Molten Lava HOT, HOT MAN NOT – lava is pretty HOT! Oh, one more thing. Remember Simon said ARCHIE “CRUSHED” the competition after “Love Me Tender” and Ryan Seacrest called ARCHIE “THE CRUSHER” – How fitting, how fitting!!!!

samrlim | 8/1/2008, 11:15 pm EST

The New King Of Pop - For The New Generation Has Arrived !

I can guarantee 100% those haters are all David Cook Fans, Who need to tell David Cook that he need to enunciate his word clearly when he sing for you don’t understand what he was saying unless you know the song yourself plus you don’t need to scream to reach a high note and Chris Daugherty is much better for he can pronounce his word clearly when he sing. You can compare Cook to Daugherty for their genre is both ROCK.

While David Archuleta is POP who can deliver his song clearly and beautifully and with emotion.

The New King of Pop - For This Generation Has Arrived !

Regina | 8/1/2008, 11:02 pm EST

This song was great! Your review was way off. You better do your homework before you post something like this again. His American Idol Tour reviews are super! David A. can sing!!!! This song will be a #1 hit and it will probably be there awhile. I would hate for Rolling Stone’s sales to go down after this article.

Judith | 8/1/2008, 10:35 pm EST

Crush…Love it…a fun summer song with great vocals…This is just the beginning for David…as someone above aid…reviewer…you got it wrong.

Viva David para siempre!!

sumrsoff | 8/1/2008, 10:18 pm EST

Chalk one up for David Archuleta! Can’t wait for his album to come out in the fall. This kid has incredible talent - Crush is just the tip of the iceberg for him. He’s going to be making incredible music, in many genres, for many years to come.

imrose | 8/1/2008, 10:08 pm EST

Hey, what happened to my first post? You told me “slow down cowboy” that I couldn’t post but every 15 seconds. Well, that was my first post. And so now you get to hear my second post. (I was being gentle on the first one)

Do you even know what you are listening to in David Archuleta’s new song “Crush”? It is only the beginning of something this world has never senn. His forthcoming CD will be awwwesome and it will no doubt contain something for everyone because that is the breath of his audience. Do you know how many 20, 30, 40 50 and 60 year olds are on to this guy? And that is not counting the younger teens and tweens who will grow up with maturing work of art? Yes, “work of art”. He is going global and if Jive gets a clue they will recognize this now before some of the other record companies figure it out. Still doubting, just wait and see. This is as much about David’s singing abiltiy as it is about what he represents. And what he represents, “Now THAT is the question?”

Adele | 8/1/2008, 10:01 pm EST

Its the male Britney. This is a song she would have come out with back in 1999. David Archuleta can sing so much better than that. I have all his studio version songs off Idol and I love his voice; just not on a crappy track like ‘Crush’.

fay | 8/1/2008, 9:58 pm EST

love love archie & his crush song…i’m so buying his songs…love u davida!

Marcos | 8/1/2008, 9:48 pm EST

Do you know what are you talking about? LOL

tj4steelers | 8/1/2008, 9:35 pm EST

This song’s a hit. Archuleta is the real thing. Because he came through American Idol doesn’t make him any less a talent. And don’t give me any of your elitist attitude. I’ve was listening to rock & roll while you were still shitting yellow in your diapers.

Amy | 8/1/2008, 9:29 pm EST

Did I comment yet?? Probably, but I’ll do it again. You see, Mr. “Journalist”, David has an enourmus Army of supremely dedicated fans. Rest assured, you will be eating your words in about a month’s time. That’s all it will take…..maybe not even that long. Compare Cook and Archie as much as you want, that won’t keep Archie from becoming the super star he was born to be!!!

Now, back to your writing! :)

tawni | 8/1/2008, 9:29 pm EST

CRUSH is a great pop tune (soon to be a hit) by a 17 y/o musical genius. no need to compare David to anyone; he’s like no one else. a beautiful, soulful voice and an endearing & genuine personality. that’s probably what threw this articles author for a loop. he’s just not used to seeing so much talent coupled with humilty & sweetness.

Erika | 8/1/2008, 9:15 pm EST

You’re wrong. Period. The song is amazing. :)

Cheers | 8/1/2008, 9:14 pm EST

Love David Archuleta. The Golden Prince of American Idol. Rollin Stones, isn’t that the mag. my grandfather reads.

Tanis | 8/1/2008, 9:07 pm EST

david is still evolving, and he will be one of the brighest young stars out there yet. just look at the comments below mine. he has the fanbase and the talent. just watch him grow.

blondeambition13 | 8/1/2008, 8:58 pm EST

are you eating those words yet. gonna be fun to watch this new superstar with this mega huge hit climb the charts. are you gonna do a re-write when he tops the charts? cause ohhhh, he’s so gonna do it. He has amazing fans that will help him blow the cover off the music world. Stand back and hold onto your hat!

CR | 8/1/2008, 8:46 pm EST

I certainly like Crush and David Archuleta - and David Cook - a whole lot more than I like American Idol or Rolling Stone!

Andrea | 8/1/2008, 8:33 pm EST

CRUSH is a CRUSHER.
“Why do I keep running from the truth, all I ever think of you, you got me hypnotized, mesmerized” Archuleta’s lyrics. And rock fans this is how the rest of us feel about CRUSH. WOW!

whitney | 8/1/2008, 8:32 pm EST

THIS SONG IS AMAZING.
good review,
not!

david archuleta has an amazing voice, give him credit please

mari | 8/1/2008, 8:24 pm EST

Sounds like a pop hit to me! Love David Cook…..but Archuleta’s gonna be around for a loooooong time. You might want to get on the bandwagon before there’s no room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will support Archie.. | 8/1/2008, 8:20 pm EST

The song it’s amazing, Congratulations David and Jive..
I love Crush,, I love it I love it..
the best song ever!

Anne Hunt | 8/1/2008, 8:20 pm EST

Ten years ago, this song — which was co-written by onetime Evanescence member Dave Hodges — might have been a hit. Now, it’s something you’d expect from an American Idol silver medalist.

Palm to Heart

Isn’t it good to know that David never let’s you down. He always goes above and beyond with his music. And he did this time as well. David put a song out that everyone can relate to not just us “Fanatics”. Obviously Daniel Kreps has never had a crush on anyone or vice/versa thus he can’t relate. Oh, and I’m sorry your musical career didn’t work out for you. You should also consider dropping music critic as a job. It doesn’t seem to be working either.

If I’m not mistaken this is the second pan you’ve tried to give this very gifted young man. It didn’t work the first time and it’s not working now. You and that Yahoo reporter both Cook fans are the only two people who have tried to pan David with your critiques.

The thing about David James Archuleta is that he is so far above your critique it isn’t even funny. This young man has the vocal talent and the musical ability to take on practically any genre of music and make it work. He is a consummate performer and his skills will become legendary. So don’t try and pan David James because he can do with only one vocal cord what most singers can’t do with two. Simon Cowell isn’t the only person who wishes they had what David James Archuleta has. Not only does David have “IT”,he is “IT”, and he uses “IT” well. The next time you decide to write a review of this young man’s work, might I suggest you listen to HIM rather than be bitter because you were rejected. David is unmatched as a singer. I would think that the review from the Pop Tart’s Tour would give you just a bit of a clue. What you should really do before you attempt another of these assassinations is consult people who know what music and singing is all about.

mariadonna | 8/1/2008, 8:12 pm EST

ps: david cook (in his blog) asks HIS fans to support david archuleta and kristy lee cook on their new single releases.

now…mr. krepps, you can learn a thing or two from this mature gentleman that we have in david cook.

david SHARES his success with his fellow idols and does not look at archuleta as just a runner up or silver medalist as you see it.

goboywonder | 8/1/2008, 8:09 pm EST

Haters hate and lovers love, and I’m loving David Archulets. I love CRUSH and am so proud and excited to be able to witness this wonderfully talented young man accent to the top of the charts.

Ps. I’m not familiar with JoJo. What’s her full name. I know JoLo? Obviously I’m not a tween or teen, but I do know David Archuleta.(@?@)

Arch Angel & Lil Arch Angel | 8/1/2008, 8:09 pm EST

You people have NO IDEA what is good music. In a world filled with songs about violence and garabge like girls kissing other girls I really do not think you have a strong ground to stand on when commenting like you did about David Archuleta.

David is an amazing singer and spirit. He is what this world needs and what our kids need to look up to for a role model.

“Crush” will soar on the charts and you will eat your words!!!!

~”Arch Angel” & “Lil Arch Angel *in training”

mariadonna | 8/1/2008, 8:08 pm EST

I was waiting for the song that would knock my socks off…I guess I’m just gonna have to get used to flip-flops….

I was glad David did not release a ballad (which would have had me gaga anyway) for his first single. I can’t wait for the full cd to come out!

Lynn | 8/1/2008, 7:59 pm EST

I have to say , as an older more mature fan, I love the young, fresh sound of “Crush”! It is sure to be a big hit! I do really want to hear more and varied songs, and can’t wait for the CD.
Please put comparisons to David Cook aside. They are two different types of artists. I will leave it at that.

Adam | 8/1/2008, 7:45 pm EST

I am a 40 year old Rock Lover. CRUSH is AMAZING. But again for a publication that is used to reviewing LOUD, Obnoxious, creeps, you can’t relate to amazing ARCHULETA

martiee | 8/1/2008, 7:42 pm EST

You have got to be kidding, with this review. It only shows you have no taste for quality sound or performance. You really can never compare David to anybody at all,BELIEVE ME!!!!

Samantha | 8/1/2008, 7:35 pm EST

CRUSH and ARCHULEA ROCK! I guess you are clueless when it comes to PITCH PERFECT VOICES.

Heather | 8/1/2008, 7:27 pm EST

You’re right. This is not gold.

It’s a Platinum single just waiting to happen.

You hear it once and it’s stuck in your head all day. and it’s incredibly relatable. It;s headed for the top. His fans will make sure of that.

Kimberlee | 8/1/2008, 7:20 pm EST

Me and all my friends are in love with David and his amazing voice!!!

China | 8/1/2008, 7:20 pm EST

CRUSH #1 HIT!!! David Archuleta sure knows how to pick songs. Everything about CRUSH is awesome, the lyrics, the melody and of course the vocalist…. David is UTTERLY AMAZING!!! This #1 Hit is one of many more to come. David James Archuleta is a World Wide artist. We cannot wait for his album to be released. LOVED IT, LOVED IT!! Everything he does is Golden!!

jeri | 8/1/2008, 7:20 pm EST

crush rocks david is on his way

Dani | 8/1/2008, 7:08 pm EST

You compared it to Jojo and Chris Brown, two current hit-makers. So that sounds good to me.

No need to compare to David Cook, they’re not in the same genre, they’re not going for the same audience anymore. They just have to be true to their own music and Archuleta has done that here.

Also, this song is way better than Idol “silver medal” song. This actually sounds like something that belongs on the radio. Don’t you remember “Inside Your Heaven” or “I Saw Your Face”??

Rock Chick | 8/1/2008, 7:03 pm EST

He had me at the opening vocal lick. This is a hit.

Cherlyn | 8/1/2008, 7:01 pm EST

Silver medalist? David is running away with GOLD on this.. Don’t think you’re aware to just how many people from around the world stayed up just to listen to this rising star including myself and the numbers that support him. This is a definite hit regardless of what you say and I can’t wait till this rises to the top because I have no doubt in my mind it will.

Stinky | 8/1/2008, 6:58 pm EST

Walks like a Cookie….talks like a Cookie…reviews like a Cookie.

I smell a hater! Guess he prefers magic rainbows ;)

onioneater | 8/1/2008, 6:56 pm EST

CRUSH is amazing. Go Archie! The writer of this review doesn’t have a clue.

Stinky | 8/1/2008, 6:55 pm EST

Hmmmm..walks like a Cookie…talks like a Cookie…reviews like a Cookie.

Can you say Hater????

Jersey Girl | 8/1/2008, 6:43 pm EST

The only thing not good about David’s new single, Crush, it the author of the above review. It’s obvious he/she is biased and can’t hear, dang it! He/she evens seems a tad bit jealous that David has an amazing song out with millions of fans who adore him. Author, take a humility lesson from David, a 17 year old, you obviously need it.

Joe | 8/1/2008, 6:42 pm EST

DAVID!!! AMAZING!!! DATS ALL I CAN SAY!!

Mindy | 8/1/2008, 6:42 pm EST

Shame on you, Rolling Stone! Your rock snobbery is evident. This is a great debut song from a young man who has a truly great voice. It’s perfect, some r&b soul, a little pop flavor and a catchy lyrics. This is going to go through the roof. David has a gift and it won’t be denied. Also, do us all a favor and stop the inane comparisons with Cook. By the way, do you like Time of my Life? Now that’s dated!

sarahjane | 8/1/2008, 6:41 pm EST

I dislike your horrible feedback. I love his song. I stayed up at 1:40am Hawaii Time waiting for the world premiere and it was well worth it. David is an amazing talent and is one in a million. Everyone can relate to this song and he just proved that he can sing any type of music. He reaches out to a wide audience, boys and girls, young and old. This song is sure to be a hit, and if you check youtube, there are lots of videos of this song, lots of views, fans, and positive comments. Can’t wait to buy this single on itunes and we Archies are sure gon make it #1. We are truly dedicated and can’t wait for his album. If this is what his first single sounds like, imagine what the rest of his songs are gonna be like. It’ll be absolutely amazing. Archie4evr.

Carl C | 8/1/2008, 6:39 pm EST

it’s a good solid single for an up and coming artist, I liked it

Archugator | 8/1/2008, 6:29 pm EST

Only two people in the world fail to recognize David Archuleta for the musical genius he is, David himself and you. If you don’t like it fine (there are plenty of us who do) but don’t make inane comparisons to other artist’s work trying to be clever.
P.S. check the charts

MaryBodo | 8/1/2008, 6:21 pm EST

I agree with so many here that the comparisons between the two David’s need to stop. They are different artists and appeal to different audiences. There is room for both of them. They respect each other and we should respect each of them. Loved CRUSH. It was young and fresh and perfect for a first single for a 17 year old who loves life and most of all loves music. Way to go David.

Sandy | 8/1/2008, 6:19 pm EST

CRUSH is AWESOME. Congratulations David. I am a 40 year old woman who is one of your biggest fans.

Jenna | 8/1/2008, 6:18 pm EST

Amazing song. You know David is doing something right when non-fans are appreciating his single. It’s a song that gets better everytime I listen; something rare to find these days on the charts. David doesn’t deserve to be reviewed by an inept magazine. Keep doing your thing David, see you on the top of the charts.

Lizzybee818 | 8/1/2008, 6:11 pm EST

I love this song. It’s sooo catchy and fresh and David Archuleta’s voice is amazing. The song is a blend of pop/R&B/and Rock that is undeniable. Love it or hate it, you’ll get it stuck in your head, might as well LOVE IT. Great job David!

bianca | 8/1/2008, 6:07 pm EST

Did you listen more than once? This song is addictive–gets better each listen. Give it two more tries, c’mon!

DORA | 8/1/2008, 6:04 pm EST

For the author:SO..You promote JBro!!!
maybe it will be decent to try a little to not be subjective!
Anyway..go and listen JBro if you don’t like David.
I don’t mind! David is 100% better!

sara | 8/1/2008, 6:00 pm EST

why I’m nor surprised you have Jonas Brothers on the cover?
HAHAHA

Fran | 8/1/2008, 6:00 pm EST

I am 34 year old black woman, who considers herself a Golden Archie, I love his amazing voice and I absolutely love his new song. I preordered 7 of his CDs already and I plan to pick up at least three more in the stores to gift family and friends and of course myself. I’m proud to be an Archie. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this new song Crush and I know David has an amazing and long lived career ahead of him.
Instead of comparing David Archuleta to Cook compare to a current pop artist Jesse McCartney or something-Cook should be rightfully compared to daughtry or michael johns who plans to coem out with a rock record. It makes no sense to compare the two Davids. And your comment that this song is dates is ridiculous, I keep hearing in current artists songs, beats and rhythms from songs in the 80s and 90s and we don’t call that dated. It’s called meshing the two styles.

sara | 8/1/2008, 5:58 pm EST

The song is very catchy!
I love the rhytm and the beat and the lyrics..I love that part:
“Am I crazy or falling in love, do you think it’s another crush”
because I can’t realy stop listening the song…haha..Am I crazy?!
David..this is an awesome start for you!
Good luck with your album!
PS: Your voice is really amazing!

Anonymous | 8/1/2008, 5:56 pm EST

I’ve been listening to this song pretty much all day and I just can’t get enough. I love it!! It will be a #1 hit :)

Marie | 8/1/2008, 5:54 pm EST

I know you said all of that to incite posts and it worked!!!

Now, give David A his due. This is a great song for his first song - contemporary and fun to listen to and perfect for him.

Cook will do well also.

Cut out the comparison. Everybody else has…

SherylNotCrow | 8/1/2008, 5:53 pm EST

No need to throw ’stones’ at David. This song is absolutely perfect for him! He stayed true to his style, age and the quality of the song was purely amazing! I can’t stop playing it!! Thank you David - you’ve rocked this world more than you can ‘imagine’!!

Jwipe | 8/1/2008, 5:50 pm EST

This song really surprised me - it’s not at all the “mature” ballad people came to expect from Archie on Idol. It’s young, fresh, hip, catchy and completely relatable. It has everything today’s audience wants in a pop song. You make all these comparisons to current artists, then say the song is outdated? Huh? And fyi the competition is long over - the 2 Davids are completely different artists with different styles. They are not competing with each other - why do you try to pretend they are?

Mike's Wife | 8/1/2008, 5:47 pm EST

My husband posted and this older woman agrees with him. We grew up on the Beatles and know star-power and talent when we see it.

David is 17. He did this album under-the-gun, while singing on tour every night and right after Idol (HECTIC). How much more can be expected from him? Nothing.

My guess is that this reviewer would slam whatever David came out with.

Oh well, keep listening to your Jonas Brothers and we’ll stick with PRODIGY DAVID ARCHULETA.

Kevin15 | 8/1/2008, 5:46 pm EST

I am 15 so I don’t know what was popular 10 years ago. I do know that I really like this song today. Thanks for the article.

Mari | 8/1/2008, 5:39 pm EST

David, Great job!! I love the song. You must be so proud of yourself. Enjoy your sucess. We Love You!!!

Marissa | 8/1/2008, 5:38 pm EST

I’m a big Cook fan who wasn’t expecting a lot from Archuleta post-Idol, but I have to admit my expectations were far exceeded with “Crush”. Way to go David!!

mike | 8/1/2008, 5:35 pm EST

I’m an older guy and I think it’s great musically and catchy.

The DJ’s all like it, the fans like it, and a lot of non-fans admit it’s good stuff.

Rolling Stone is missing it if this is their opinion.

Linha | 8/1/2008, 5:35 pm EST

I love this song. David thank you for making us proud. I love that you stayed true to the R&B vibe in your voice. CRUSH is going to crush the charts!! Mark my words!

Sandy | 8/1/2008, 5:33 pm EST

First of all I don’t understand why you have to compare David to Cook. They have two different styles of music. You need to MOVE ON! Besides, you have the Jonas Bros on your website but bash someone trying to put his foot in the door? Who ever wrote this article has a lot to learn. This is not an outdated song. Young and old are gonna love it. He has instilled R&B and Pop and Soul into Crush at one point or another. If you take the time to close your eyes and listen you will know what I mean. I’m proud of you David. You don’t need Rolling Stones approval to be a HUGE SUCCESS! Keep the Faith

virtueisin | 8/1/2008, 5:24 pm EST

David! I love it! Yes, you did us proud, very proud!!!

Biceman | 8/1/2008, 5:22 pm EST

I’m a Bice/Daughtry/Cook fan, but that doesn’t prevent me from being surprised and delighted with this complex arrangement of a simple idea. It’s not what I expected from this American Idol silver medalist, whose penchant for message ballads is well known.

mhelchuleta | 8/1/2008, 5:13 pm EST

david song is amazing.he is truly the world idol.i loved the melody and the lyrics.it’s so perfect for him.he did a good job!kudos to you david and to the songwriter.

margot | 8/1/2008, 5:11 pm EST

this review is ridiculous. you should be utterly ashamed of yourself for making such a harsh and inaccurate review. you had the freaking disgusting jonas brothers on the cover of your magazine, for gosh sakes. you have no right to criticize david archuleta, who is so incredibly talented. back off of him; the song is perfect.

Wilson | 8/1/2008, 5:10 pm EST

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
David Archuleta is just amazing.
This song captures everything that everyone goes through. AMAZING.

Jonasfan | 8/1/2008, 5:03 pm EST

Boo hiss. I thought Rolling Stones liked the Jonas Brothers. They are all pop. Why dont you. Ut ohh the Jonas crew will be over now. I can’t believe the writter doesnt like pop music. Well At least that is what is POPular now. I love the song. I didnt really watch American Idol, but I love the Jonas Brothers. I liked this song and so do my friends. Yes were 15, but um were the reason Miley and Jonas are mega stars with total sell out concerts in 10min. What other stars today are doing that? I can’t think of any. Actually, I think the vocals are better in Crush than My Jboys but I love Jboys music. haha.. Im sad that Rolling Stones dissed the Jbrothers and Pop music. Boo hiss on you.

david fan forever | 8/1/2008, 5:01 pm EST

i’ve listened to crush at least 20 times today and it gets better every time i listen! face it Rolling Stone, the world adores david and it’s only gonna get stronger so i suggest you put him on your cover SOON!

Mich | 8/1/2008, 4:59 pm EST

Haters can be haters but i LOVE this song! I am def. buying this single AND the album.

Ani | 8/1/2008, 4:57 pm EST

I LOVE THE SONG!!
ITS PERFECT :D !

Jane | 8/1/2008, 4:49 pm EST

I agree with everyone that says, stop comparing the two Davids. They are so different in their music. The contest is over. I reqlly like David”s “CRUSH”. Loved it!!!!!!! I say it’s a number one.

Sandra | 8/1/2008, 4:42 pm EST

David Archuleta has EVERYTHING to be a huge, amazing world music star.

I love the song!! I love David Archuleta’s amazing talent and awesome personality.

This kid is a gift to the world; he is a blessing.

Anonymous | 8/1/2008, 4:41 pm EST

This song works. It’s exactly the kind of music a young artist should be doing. I’m really liking it.

G Johnson | 8/1/2008, 4:39 pm EST

Archie hit it outta the park!!!!! Believe me when I say there were tons of us Archies up all night (and still up) - chatrooms blazing across the US , from Guam, Singapore, Japan, Canada, the Phillipines, India in nervous anticipation of this debut - and we all feel Jive has done our “Crown Prince” proud…. this is the beauty of him being 17 years old - the tiger is yet to be fully unleashed, and this debut goes a LONG way in silencing the critics and detractors who wrote him of as being unable to appeal to a “mainstream” pop audience…. BRAVO DAVID….

Sandra | 8/1/2008, 4:37 pm EST

I looove the song!!

David Archuleta has EVERYTHING to be an huge, amazing world music star(talent and personality) This is only the beginning of his successful, amazing, eternal music career!!!

BRAVO DAVID ARCHULETA!!!! You are truly an amazing gift to the world.

eric | 8/1/2008, 4:35 pm EST

Your review stinks man. obviously you were not listening to music ten years ago and ur not a david a fan. Oh well ur loss

lauren | 8/1/2008, 4:30 pm EST

You obviously hate David A. because nothing you said makes any sense. This doesn’t sound like a JoJo song and I can’t think of anything from 10 years ago that sounds like this. It is a good pop song. I’m sure you’ll praise Cook to death with his first generic Nickelback-esque song since you are obviously blind to true talent.

Guxt | 8/1/2008, 4:30 pm EST

There are too many kids here, I guess. Why some of you hate David Cook? Are you still feeling bad because Cook won? Get over it! Please, enjoy the music and forget about the others.

Mary | 8/1/2008, 4:07 pm EST

This song is amazing! Just like the artist, he is incredible and his CD is going to tear up the charts and all of you critics. Go get um David. God Bless You and all that you achieve.

Ninah | 8/1/2008, 3:53 pm EST

David Archuleta is the TRUE American Idol!
Extremely gifted, truly blessed by God! He seems to sing in a language that connect to our souls… whatever he sings, goes directly to them!

Adding his pure and velvet voice to a catchy, current pop song, fantastic to play on the radio was a brilliant idea! Congratulations to him, the songwriters and JIVE!

But the old ones that love him expect for a ballad that shows his rich, deep and soulful vocals!
He´s gonna be a superstar!!!

Quoting both Simon and Ryan, I have to say: Fantastic, crushER!!!
We love you here in Brazil!

Steven | 8/1/2008, 3:52 pm EST

This sweet track is gonna be huge. And not just among the kids too, because I gotta admit its dang catchy.

brenda | 8/1/2008, 3:46 pm EST

I loved this song by the “silver medalist” I thought it was amazing. I wish the comparisons with DC would stop, they are both completely different artists. This was a fantastic song by an extremely talented, humble young man who has just begun to show the world his talent. DA is a superstar in the making.

Talita | 8/1/2008, 3:44 pm EST

The new King of Pop has just arrived! DA has the best male singer voice to come on the pop scene in a generation!!!
God blessed him with such talent and now it has been given to the world!

Congratulations, CRUSHer!!!

brenda | 8/1/2008, 3:42 pm EST

This song is fantastic. I am not sure what was meant by it being a silver medalist song. I loved it and it ! I wish the comparisons to DC would end. They are 2 completely different artists. DA has blossomed since AI ended and he will be a superstar.

Jimbo | 8/1/2008, 3:32 pm EST

David Cook is only popular as the anti-Archuleta. Once they separate at the end of the tour Cook will be seen for the ersatz rocker he is and no one will be interested. I don’t know what’s more pathetic about David Cook on the tour videos - him asking the crowd to applaud louder for him or faking out old-like-you followers that he’s the one playing the great guitar riffs in the concert.

Karyn | 8/1/2008, 3:30 pm EST

Crush is the perfect first single for David Archuleta! Some people complained that he couldn’t do anything current, and this proves them wrong. His album will be perfect because it’ll have something for everyone on it. David has a golden voice, and a beautiful heart and soul. Everything he sings is brilliant, including Crush, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for him.

DL | 8/1/2008, 3:30 pm EST

admit it. i’m right :)

DL | 8/1/2008, 3:27 pm EST

“lush chorus” mixed in with both an RnB, as well as college or punk rock feel, showcasing AMAZING vocal range as well as technical singing, be it in the subtleties - is more like it thank u very much!

soco63 | 8/1/2008, 3:21 pm EST

David- see you at the top of the charts!!!!
