Howard Stern Plots “Rock ‘N’ Roll High School” Remake

7/31/08, 10:50 am EST

Shock jock and self-proclaimed “King of All Media” Howard Stern is turning his sights back on films with a planned remake of the classic teen flick Rock ‘n’ Roll High School. Often on his radio show, Stern discussed his love of the original 1979 film, which was about a group of punk-rock-loving students who — with an assist from the Ramones — rebel against the school’s oppressive administration. Stern is set to produce, with Alex Winter (Bill from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, now a director of music videos and TV) on tap to write the screenplay. Winter is also reportedly working on a script for MTV Films about Napster founder Shawn Fanning. As for Stern, he’s also producing another ’70s remake in Porky’s, with production possibly beginning in the fall. So, who should fill the Ramones’ role in the Rock ‘n’ Roll High School remake? Rock Daily’s early vote goes to Black Lips.

I think it’d have to be someone subversively cheesy like a modern day DEVO, or someone so offensive that it would make the cheesiness turn on it’s head. Someone like Mindless Self Indulgence.

stupid howard stern | 7/31/2008, 12:09 pm EST

This was a Roger Corman film, featuring/starring the one and only Ramones. It does not need to be re-made. It is a classic. Leave your filthy mitts off of it, Howard.

stupid howard stern | 7/31/2008, 12:11 pm EST

um,,,,,why does this need to be “re-made”?

Sternfan123 | 7/31/2008, 12:13 pm EST

He has been talking about this for awhile. I am more excited about the new shows coming on Howard TV. Should be fun. Stern rulz!

Iron Balls | 7/31/2008, 12:36 pm EST

I smell bomb all the way with these remakes. Might as well put these movies straight to DVD instead of releasing them in theatres. They’re definitely going to tank at the box office. You can expect heavy heavy promotion and non-stop talk about these garbage remakes on his Sirius show.

Eh | 7/31/2008, 12:45 pm EST

You mean the guy that gave us such great films as Freaked and um…

Basically I don’t care just as long as Reeves reprises his role as Ortiz the Dog Boy.

Joe | 7/31/2008, 1:26 pm EST

Flaming Lips.

Eric Con Queso | 7/31/2008, 1:33 pm EST

I know this has been a long and painful process. I look forward to speaking with you yesterday so you can walk me through it.

Jungleland | 7/31/2008, 2:00 pm EST

Sounds like Howard has one foot out the door at Sirrus (O&A are gonna kick his ass in the merger)

I think both of these remakes sound like he has no ideas of his own

Rock and Roll High School and Porkey’s just don’t need to be remade, just rented again.

Jbro | 7/31/2008, 2:20 pm EST

Never would happen but would cool:Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, Billy Joe, Flea

Posta | 7/31/2008, 2:44 pm EST

Vedder etc? More like Rock n Roll rest home.

Jughead | 7/31/2008, 3:07 pm EST

Right on Jungleland! I agree – O&A are now much more entertaining and funnier than Howard and will kick his ass. Howard’s new title should be “King of All Greed” as he shows no commitment to his Sirius fans (he’s constantly on vacation and taking days off) and this movie making of remakes just shows how very un-original he is – just like his un-original radio show. Screw Howard.

We blow.

levi | 7/31/2008, 3:49 pm EST

the fact that this movie is even being considered to be re-made is ridiculous. rock ‘n roll high school would have been a lame attempt at being hip and edgy without the ramones to actually MAKE IT hip and edgy.

as for the black lips, they would be a breath of fresh air from the rest of the turd, if it were to come to fruition.

Paul Calypso | 7/31/2008, 4:35 pm EST

Cheap Trick were originally gonna be in the movie but that’s around the time (around Budokan) things were taking off for them so the Ramones ended up in the movie.
Bun E Carlos said they were in debt at that time and if they quit touring to make a movie it wouldn’t have been a good move.

mike b. | 7/31/2008, 5:00 pm EST

Black Lips might work. How about the Black Keys? Or, if you wanna get a little weird, The Hives? Baba Booey, Baba Booey, Howard Stern’s penis, Baba Booey!

Uh.....Bob? | 7/31/2008, 5:07 pm EST

Jonas Brothers!!!!!
….
Oh wait, I forgot I’m not an 12-year girl.

Danny F. | 7/31/2008, 5:41 pm EST

First off, O&A aren’t in competition with Howard, they’re part of the same team now that XM and Sirius have merged. Second off, O&A haven’t had half the impact on XM as Stern has had on Sirius. 3rd off, Stern is meticulous when it comes to everything: his very popular radio show, best selling books, hit movie. This movie will be good. Guaranteed.

Peter S. | 7/31/2008, 5:50 pm EST

I didn’t know Howard Stern was still alive.

Pete Schweaty | 7/31/2008, 7:19 pm EST

I thought Howard Stern died in a car accident!?!?!

Tyles | 7/31/2008, 10:56 pm EST

Who should fill the Ramones role? No one. Why is this being remade? Does Stern have too much free time on his hands? Does he hate Ramones fans THAT much?

Brian Gallagher | 8/1/2008, 12:34 am EST

Is this the Howard Stern who talks about boobs and wieners? Oh he is so cutting edge with the talk about the boobies and the wieners.God he cracks me up with all of his boob and wiener jokes…ha ha hee hee boobs, wieners and the balls.

dickymoe | 8/1/2008, 3:29 am EST

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Bad idea. Original was awesome – highly under rated. And you could never EVER find a band even half as cool as The Ramones.

mattdiggsit | 8/1/2008, 9:17 am EST

What about Tool? How badass would that be?? If you don’t listen to Howard, you’re missing out. CUTTING EDGE RADIO. Go buy Sirius.

Otis Hodges | 8/1/2008, 11:43 am EST

This is terrible idea. Just leave this movie alone, Howard Stern. What’s the point in remaking Rock n Roll Highschool?

CoolAnon | 8/1/2008, 11:34 pm EST

I listened to Howard Stern when I was 11 and felt like I was breaking the rules. I didn’t laugh, but I was breaking the rules.

SomeGuy | 8/2/2008, 4:08 am EST

No.

Just…no.

tomislav | 8/5/2008, 2:26 pm EST

Parkerbob | 9/17/2008, 8:40 pm EST

LEAVE IT ALONE.
it should not be remade. ever. maybe another sequel but not remade.

Michael | 5/3/2009, 12:36 am EST

THE BOUNCING SOULS!!! They have a very similar style and they would probably be very willing to do it!

Michael | 5/3/2009, 12:38 am EST

RANCID!!!!!!! They have a similar style, both punk, and Lars Fredrickson said that movie was what made him originally want to play music! Plus they already have a reputation built up nad would be more than willing to do it!
