Ludacris Lobbies for VP in Obama Tribute Rap, Obama Spokesman Lashes Back

7/29/08, 2:26 pm EST

As Ludacris knows, no rap album is complete these days without a tribute to Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Thus, the rapper included his ode to Obama, dubbed “Politics,” on his new mixtape with DJ Drama, The Preview. Luda claims that he’s both one of Obama’s favorite rapper and on the candidate’s iPod, so that’s good for a presidential pardon if he’s “ever in the slammer.” In our interview with Barack Obama, Obama admitted that he knows Ludacris, say maybe he’ll take Luda seriously when he lobbies for the role of Vice President in the song. Ludacris also demands “Get off your ass, black people, it’s time to get out and vote” and “Paint the White House black.” He then goes off on McCain (”He don’t belong in any chair unless he’s paralyzed”) and even calls George W. Bush “mentally handicapped.” “The world is ready for change because Obama is here,” the coda goes as Ludacris closes out a tribute song that’s somehow even more controversial than Nas‘ “Black President.”

UPDATE: On July 30th, an Obama spokesman responded to Ludacris’ song in a statement that called the track “outrageously offensive.” Bill Burton said: “As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”

You republicans are just upset because the entire world knows that Bush is an embarassment to our nation. Secondly, Saundra Gonzo is pretty racist for a mexican. Lastly, why should Luda be ashamed of himself? Nothing in his song that the media has deemed “offensive” is actually offsensive. Black people should vote, we all should. If McCain became paralized, then he would belong in a wheelchair. Luda didn’t say he should be paralized. And who hasn’t called bush something that implies he’s mentally challenged?

Horrible | 8/10/2008, 8:09 am EST

Perhaps Luda should have done his homework before he made this song. Obama the first black president? Last I knew he was 1/2 white, almost 1/2 arabic, and just a small portion of what is considered to be black. NOTE TO LUDA: Pull foot from mouth!

Sandra Gonzo | 8/5/2008, 1:24 am EST

Obama go away take your wife with you and don’t come back..
We the American people don’t want you in our White House. You know they call it the White House for a reason?

No doubt, Obama can talk the talk… but as a GOP supporter I wouldn’t vote for Obama because laying in bed at night he has to be thinking… what have I done to qualify me to run this country? My own father has done more to qualify himself for the role of president short of a term as senator than Obama! Its a shame that BHO lost his shot… he should gave it 8,12 more years and given himself some actual experience in govmnt.

STOP HATING……STOP THE MADNESS…IT IS WHAT IT IS…MCCAIN IS TO OLD TO BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND EVERYONE KNOWS THAT, WE HAVE TO HAVE SOME SO WHY NOT OBAMA

Zeus | 8/1/2008, 11:07 pm EST

Hey, what do you expect from this so called “artist”?
Nothing!
The fact the BHO has him on his IPod, well, that’s where he’s coming from, after all.
What bothers me, and many others, is the flip flopping that Obama does, on daily bases.
I heard today that he’s thinking about going positive on off shore drilling.
He’ll do ANYTHING to get an extra vote.
The Obama fiction is just so - FICTION.
The man has almost no experience in nationa affairs, and his trip abroad may get him elected mayor of Berlin, but look out - on November 5, 2008, our newly elected president will be none other than grandpa McCain.
The democrats sure know how to shoot themselves in the ass, don’t they?

TN4OBAMA | 8/1/2008, 6:47 pm EST

As a black woman it amazes me that the primary people responsible for giving the GOP the most barbs to throw at Senator Obama are BLACK PEOPLE. This artist is an idiot beyond description. Actually I rather doubt that he really is as stupid as he appears to be… no, I think he’s a GOP operative. A true blue modern day Uncle Tom in the flesh. Thanks Ludacris, you faithful & dependable negro.

Anonymous | 8/1/2008, 6:11 pm EST

Just wait liberals, when Obama is taxing the shit out of you to pay for his so-called change, let’s see how you feel about it then. Your take home pay is really gonna be less than what it is now.But then you’ll be stuck for at least 4 years!

White-on-Black | 8/1/2008, 3:55 pm EST

Obama is the wrong black man for Pres. I don’t have an issue with voting for a black man for pres as long as he is “presidential” material. Blacks are in such a hurry to get a black into office they’ve lowered they’re standards and have allowed this wannabe who has NOTHING to offer a shot at the white house. How about Bill Cosby? Now there’s a respectable black man who I’d trust with my life.

T.J. | 8/1/2008, 10:48 am EST

Ludicrous as spelled out in the dictionary is exactly that, LUDICROUS. Childish rhymes for childish minds. He is about as talented as an ass (Donkey that is) I take that back an ass is really useful it’s what comes out of it that equates with Ludicrous.

Concerned | 8/1/2008, 10:38 am EST

Michael: “boughten” is definitely in the dictionary - - look it up (It means: store-bought). If you were trying to suggest that “Make Michigan a Red State” is illiterate, it backfired.

I found the comment by “Sad Immigrant” particularly insightful as to OTHER people’s plights outside the USA. Regardless of our family’s origins, we are all Americans. Everyone in this country has the right to an education (which is not always evident with regard to some of the posts on this site) and to pursue their own destiny; if you want to know what actual “regression” is, perhaps you should visit “Sad Immigrant’s” country of origin. If our country is in such bad shape, why are so many people standing in line and illegally crossing our borders to get into the USA. And if you find our country repressive or oppressive, perhaps you might consider going back to your family’s original point of origin and see how they are faring with regard to lifestyles; and if you feel it is better suited to your idealistic desires, you do not need to return to the US - - just ask and we will ship your belongings to you.

Songs (raps) like these are definitely going to divide the nation; and they definitely will influence undecided white voters - - but not as you wish. Most voters are trying to sort through the facts and lyrics like Ludicris’ are just edging them closer to the opposite side.

Floatingsky | 8/1/2008, 9:51 am EST

The scope and depth of the ignorance and stupidity exhibited here is boundless and way beyond the reaches of my imagination. It is obvious that the main issue in this campaign should be education reform since it is clear from the song and the illiterate, non-factual and banal comments made here that our education system has failed miserably.
” im sure McCain never used explicit language over and Nam fifty years ago…”
That is a certainty, and we are all sure since McCain wasn’t in Vietnam 1n 1958. If he had been there then, it is hard to imagine what he would have been doing. I’m sure when he was shot down, he used profanity. Who cares?
Nothing will save you idiots from the prison of your own design in which you now reside, nor is it likely that you will change residences. You deserve Obama and McCain and you will get what you deserve. Ludicris is an imbecile and so are you.

LaShon | 8/1/2008, 6:03 am EST

I have heard Ludacris’ song and I have read all of the comments so far. Some of you people are so stupid! Ludacris never mentioned anything about race in the song except for stating “let’s make history by voting for the first black president”. Just like everyone he has the first amendment on his side and should be able to express his opinons just like everyone else. I personally am a fan of Ludacris’ music and will continue to be. Secondly, Obama did state he listens to his music but nobody knows what songs. Ludacris has some heartfelt songs too like “Runaway Love” and should be recognized.

Everything Ludacris said in that two minute song was true. I don’t agree with him calling Sen. Clinton a b**** but the things she has to say now is irrelevant. Jesse Jackson and his bullsh** apology. Duh-dum “I don’t know” clueless a** McCain. And Bush……(I don’t have anything nice to say about him)
At the end of the day, I plan to vote for who can make changes to the economy and make a difference and that will be Obama.

PS Ludacris does not speak for Obama. But just like all of us he is entitled to his opinon.

AND ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter | 8/1/2008, 12:24 am EST

It’s obviously not a political song… just for entertainment! This rapper is presently on Barak’s I-Pod. When the former supporters of the former First Lady hear this “C” rap music they may very well become former supporters of BHO.

Sad Immigrant | 7/31/2008, 11:42 pm EST

I am a small businessowner who immigrated to this country for a better life and God bless this beautiful and wonderful country for giving me the chance that I never would have gotten anywhere else in the world. I have traveled to many places to know this is a fact. You folks who hate America should spend a couple of months outside this great country of ours and try and make a good living elsewhere. You’ll be kissing the US ground when you return. As for you ‘black folks’ out there who support Obama, Wright, and Ludacris, why do you feel so damned entitled to everything? There are many people out there who were oppressed and enslaved for hundreds of years and never use that as an excuse for not having the “life they wanted”. These people sometimes do not even speak English and yet they make a good living and raise decent hard-working children. Actually, I feel sorry for you people. You are misguided ingrates.

chris | 7/31/2008, 10:53 pm EST

this is a great idea….gives ludacris just the controversy he needs to sell his next album, by next week this song will be on every urban radio station across america. Who is McCain again, i forgot?

Joe Blowmenow | 7/31/2008, 10:09 pm EST

Typical “Rap Crap.” I here Luda is into “C”Rap (That’s CRAP for all your rap morons).

BLAST THE MUSIC | 7/31/2008, 9:46 pm EST

Whether you endorse Obama or not, it’s going to happen. While most of you are hating on the man that try to restore our image in the wrold, Mccain is preparing to go to war with Iran. Wake up people, our military is so in bad shape, we can even afford to send troops in Africa. Bush is mentally handicapped, because he had all his senses, we wouldn’t be where we at right now. Gas is $4 a gallon and the unemployment rate is more than 5%. Think about where you were 8 years ago and how much it took to fill up your tank. Couple months ago, Mccain was asked about forclosure and his economic policy. This fool said that he will create more jobs so people can stay in their homes. Basically he’s saying that you need to get a second job or a third job to pay your morgage. He didn’t say anything about raising minimum wage nor improving workers benefits. If Mccain get elected, we all gonna die. Because he beleives that the wrold problems can only be resolved through military action. The last time I voted for a republican I was in Balad fighting for my life. BLAST THE MUSIC LUDA, IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE.

Nan | 7/31/2008, 9:32 pm EST

This is just sad! I think this makes us blacks look bad to white people. We are not all like this and this is the type of thing that Obama is against. This did not help the cause but hurt it more. It’s always something. Rapper’s are not representative of every black person. Whether what he said was true or not, it was totally inappropriate! I thought Ludacris stepped his game up after he cut the braids and received a Grammy. He puts us back 60 years with this antic. Shame on you Luda!

Not old; not young. | 7/31/2008, 9:05 pm EST

The mere fact that this so-called entertainer is even remotely in favor of Obama and Obama has previously stated he has this idiot’s songs on his I-Pod is PLENTY of association for me. Yes, you can write and sing ANYTHING you wish (because we do live in America) doesn’t mean you should.
I think it is very interesting that all the comments written in favor of Obama are filled with rotten spelling, bad grammar or no grammar at all! By the way, why do you think America is so prosperous as a nation? Is it because of “average” men and women who do little to contribute to our society and only want free handouts from the government? No! It is because we have big business and we have educated, experienced, “old farts” running the place. I’m sorry. Young people don’t rule the world and can’t and won’t ever run the country successfully. I like the idea of “world peace” as much as the next guy. However, people have been fighting over one thing or another FOREVER. If anyone dares to think that Obama, all by his glorious self, can make “world peace” a reality, then that person is a FOOL! Obviously, neither candidate is perfect. Let’s be realistic and vote for the most QUALIFIED, EXPERIENCED candidate. John McCain.

freedom rock! | 7/31/2008, 8:52 pm EST

this song, I mean S$#T, really shows how the youth of America think, the bleep before he mentions Hillery ( whether true or not) and the handicapped comments just bring to light the stupidity of this whole thread. I hear people saying that McCain is a liar and can’t remember questions or answers he said a few days ago, come on have any of you been out on a campaign like these two have been on? Of course they are going to flip-flop on issues as long as it brings in the money to the campaigns. Everyone is praising Obama for stating that he is going to pull our troops out of Iraq, but! do you know where he intends on putting them? Afganiestan! out of one war zone into another, yes I said it theres a flip the press doesn’t want you to know, As for any race issues, it’s the ignorant, dummies in this country that bring race into it, whether it be the “RAPPERS” or the REV Jesse Jackson,
or even the backward rednecks of the southern states I bet you stick a knife in either one of those guys they both bleed red.

My VOTE is for McCain. this being said from a Veteran of four war zones. AND I KEPT YOU FREE TO TALK YOUR TRASH NOW SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR YOUR ELDERS

Fiesty Fost | 7/31/2008, 7:39 pm EST

Luda’s lyrical political satire is just that. The flow was funny though. It really is no different than the Obama T shirts with the monkey or banana or whatever that crap was. Or the “Black house” button at the Republican convention. So please. This is free speech at it’s best! I laughed when I heard it and it simply pokes fun at the Obama haters. He also did not say anything about voting for Obama because he is black, he said, “Comeon get off of your A$$es black people and vote.” Synonymous with low black voter turnout. Remember the rock the vote campaign a few years ago? It’s basically the same thing, only he is promoting his preference in his rap. Much like Fox news does in their broadcasts, etc. I will definately bang my head to this one! Luda is a trip and always has been, always will be. Also, there is not much difference in rap music than your headbanging music, or your coutry and western music . Each genre has their own way of communicating whether it be banging heads, chewing tobacco (yuk), or a sick flow dissing the haters. Why is it that black artists always garner the negative attention, what about the Obama haters who play the “he’s black” race card. Get a grip folks this is America where we say what we want. LUDA…. I loved it!!
Forever a fan in middle class Black America.

Anonymous | 7/31/2008, 6:15 pm EST

i personally like the song…ludacris is not stating anything wrong or disrespectful…he is just saying that the worl is ready for change…get off ludacris sack..and grow up he is just stating that obama is going to change things..If people were to start thinking bout the good things udacris does instead of thinking of the negative things we wouldnt be on this subject.!

Catherine | 7/31/2008, 6:14 pm EST

Nothing in this country will change unless the people make it happen (voting one way or another doesn’t count as contributing to society). Work diligently and intelligently toward POSITIVE social change. That doesn’t mean taking others down along the way. What happened to self-respect & authentic work ethic? Singing foolish lyrics only contributes to this country’s moral pollution.

whitey | 7/31/2008, 6:10 pm EST

i love it, he is saying the truth 100%….hillary’s campaign took the low road and now is irrelevent. jesse jackson needs to own up to his statments. and mccain’s age and political veiws are not inline with the voting majority. THE TRUTH HURTS!

Blaq Paladin | 7/31/2008, 6:00 pm EST

I think that song it very good and that he did not tell one lie about anything. The only thing is that most of you think it and won’t actually say it.

I am a rapper though so maybe my point doesn’t count.

Mije Jones | 7/31/2008, 5:56 pm EST

Obama, I believe is a great leader.
The rap song by Ludacris was inappropriate. It shows his ignorance. I am pretty sure that Obama is not in agreement with this negative message. Ludacris is enthusiatic and I’m sure he meant well , it just came across wrong.
However you also have to understand that many years of blacks being opressed have lead us to where we are today.
Finally, Obama is worthy of anyone’s vote. Black ,white, green, red, yellow people.
Color should have nothing to do with this.
I am a black woman .I have never considered voting for someone just because of their race or party affiliation. I am a registered democrat, yet have at times voted Republican.Let’s stick to the issues people!

aaron | 7/31/2008, 5:26 pm EST

why do people associate luda as a spokesperson for obama. They have no relation to each other. This is a silly rap song. I feel an undercurrent of racism, associating these two together because they are black.

Obama is the only one who looks engaged and sturdy on his issues, while mccain flounders and tries to poke holes calling obama a media darling. No more old white conservative men lying to us middle and lower class saying we’ll get ours, well fruitless war and economic woes is all we have to show for it.

Anonymous | 7/31/2008, 4:45 pm EST

I changed my mind. I want to vote for McCain. Obama sucks.

Anonymous | 7/31/2008, 4:00 pm EST

The comment that every black person is voting for Obama to make history is very ignorant. Do you know evry black person? I would vote for Obama even if he were white. Anyone but Bush and his friends. You see where his leadership has brought us.

Elaine England | 7/31/2008, 3:53 pm EST

Ludacris, The color of my skin or any persons skin, does not matter. Now that YOU have made this distinction, it matters. I will never vote for a Black Skined President.

Clear the Smoke Screen | 7/31/2008, 11:02 am EST

Not black or white, not replublican or democrat. Vote for an AMERICAN that you all can be proud of. If it’s not a race issue, then why point out that fact that history will be made by having the first black President? If race is not an issue, then why have I seen so many black Americans who have probably never voted before rush to the polls just to make sure a black man is in the running? When the final votes are counted and the elected President takes the oath we’ll all see during those first 100 days who was the right choice.

George n DC | 7/31/2008, 9:57 am EST

I have read most of the comments on this page and I am sickend. You people really have a probelm First of all there is nothinf racial in the rap Ludacris recorded nothing it all talks about politics and what we know is going to happen. You republicans are mad because you know in november you will get you behinds handed to you. * years of Bush / Cheney Politics have ruined america not Ludacris and definitly not Obama. You people are ignorant.

Anonymous | 7/30/2008, 11:57 pm EST

Ludacris & Obama 08 | 7/30/2008, 10:28 pm EST

I love this crap. All Ludacris is doing is inspiring every undecided white voter to vote for McCain. The more idiots such as Spike Lee and Ludacris make these stupid comments and songs it will end up helping McCain.

Kosher | 7/30/2008, 10:11 pm EST

I didn’t like rap before, but now I truly have a reason to hate it. What an arrogant, ignorant, uneducated fool. I find it comical that an idiot like Ludacris can call a person like President Bush mentally handicapped. Even though his decisions have not always been great, he has a degree from Yale and Harvard, plus served in the military and was governor of Texas. People like this rapper make me sick to my stomach.

nonracist | 7/30/2008, 9:30 pm EST

WAKE UP WHITE PEOPLE, This election shouldn’t be about race, EVERY black person is just voting to make history. VOTE on the issues, but hurry up he might change his mind.

A Brown/Black Democrat | 7/30/2008, 8:01 pm EST

U know I like the rap, and its about time someone put McCain out there in the negative way that he really is. ALL I hear are the republicatins talking crap about Obama, espeically Sean Hannity which pisses me off, and now they are mad because of the rap that Ludacris put out there. Well what do they (the republicans) expect after they decided to put out the New York magazine cover? If u put out someone negative the republicans need to expect to get negative responses in return. What annoys me is that all I hear is McCain talking negative about Obama but he never says anything positive about himself, and what he plans to do to better things for the American people. It makes a person wonder what McCain is for and not just what he is against. The republicans complained because Obama wasn’t going overseas to see the troops, now that he has the republican are pissed off about it. Now all I hear are republicans trying to make the American public believe that Obama doesn’t care about wounded troops by stating that Obama did not go to visit them, when in actuality he did go to see them without the media present. The republicans called Obama a flip flopped when McCain flipped flopped in order to win the preseidential nomination.
1. McCain adopted Bush economic poilicies
2 McCain flip flopped on off shore oil drilling
3 McCain walked away from his own immigration reform bill
4 Let’s be real, McCain is offereing to become another Bush which is what we don’t need.
With that said and done Obama has my vote hands down

Clear the Smoke Screen | 7/30/2008, 7:05 pm EST

Bottom lines is, you should never vote based on the color of a man alone (black or white). Vote because you like the person, but more importantly vote on the issues. Vote because a person makes sense. Close your eyes and listen to each of the candidates initiatives and if you like what you hear then make a choice (didn’t say the right choice, but what you believe to be the right choice). If Obama or McCain wins, because of their color alone it will further divide our nation rather that bring it together.

To Make Minnesota a Red State:

BOUGHTEN??? That isn’t a word, for one. And two, why can’t Mr. McCain give a straight answer 100% of the time he’s asked questions? And finally, why can’t Mr. McCain even remember answers to questions he’s asked the previous day? The answer to 2 and 3 is, he’s a senile old codger that needs to retire from the senate, and certainly not run for president.

If you make your political decisions on what song Luda puts out you are an ass already. I love Obama and I get the song, just a motivation for young people to vote and take this election seirously.

But! I can say that the majority of poeple who have commented weren’t gonna vote for him anyway. No rational grown person listened to his song and thought “Wow that was offensive, I will vote for McCain.”

Get your facts in order Bridget, GW had experience and look where its gotten us, he grew up in a wealthy family. Obama grew up in a single parent home with his mother who happens to be white and she struggled to raise him as did countless single mothers. STOP with the Proppaganda and stick to the facts. Ludacris’ “Politics” its just a song and he has about the same chances of being VP as you do.
McCain doesn’t care one bit about you or your concerns, this guy doesn’t even know how to use a computer. It’s 2009 and that tells me everything. Quit believeing that if we keep trying the some crap with the same people, we are gonna get a different results and not be crapped on, lets educate ourselves and stop this maddness. There comes a time when must all stand up and be counted and that time has come for a drastic “CHANGE”! Be a part of the solution and not the continuing problems that plaque our beloved country. Time to get my fellow veterans home, provide comfort and financial security for all of them, they really need it, its the least we can do to take care of the troops. Lets match the amount of money spent on Irag for their well being. All those that have any and every excuse to not vote for Obama, I bet you have to search for reasons to vote for McCain and you know in your HEART that the guy is too “OLD” and his health is a question mark. You guys have had your chance to vote McCain your nominee and posibly President but you choose George W. Bush and now you want to make it right with a guy pass his time, not to mention McCain can’t remember what he says or stands for from day to day. GOODLUCK and may GOD bless us all and help our Country make the right decision and I believe it is Obama.

I can’t wait till Obama becomes president. We’re all gonna be able to smoke some weed, curse up a storm, screw out in public and cheat on our spouses, rap with lots of profanity will be the top music choice of the country, we’ll get to burn the flag and our churches whenever we feel like it and we’ll be able to mock our troops and be unpatriotic! Yeah, it’s gonna be cool! Can’t wait!

If Obama becomes president, will the White House be renamed to the Black House?

I love that track

I think we’re missing the fact that Obama is not necessarily endorsing this song. Yes, he’s mentioned in it, but WE are the ones who are actually connecting him directly to it.

Obama has controversial supporters, yes. However. with our country’s heavily bipartisan system, it’s nearly impossible NOT to have controversial supporters.

Just remember when at the polls which candidate stands for what values, principles, and future changes. Don’t confuse any candidate’s values and efforts with those of their controversial supporters.

Ludacris for President!

sumner | 7/30/2008, 7:55 am EST

I am just saying that as a president he should have at least some standards, prafanity and sexual lyrics are not good standards, then maybe i could be wrong or we as a nation have nothing to look forward to everything that is wrong is right now, so let’s all of us start cursing and teach our kids to curse and let’s all of us start sleeping aroung and commiting adultry and make it a normal part of life. but at the end there will be consequences, whether u like it or not.

im sure McCain never used explicit language over and Nam fifty years ago… quit trying to find small minor reasons to try and rationalize voting for McCain… it cant be done.

How can America be so stupid to consider Obama for president? He’s been in office for very short amount of time, he does not salute the American flag, and he does not respect our troops who keep him free. And down-to-earth my ass, he was brought up in a very wealthy family. America needs a serious wake-up call before he and “Luda” run this country into the ground.

Bridget | 7/30/2008, 12:24 am EST

They both suck, the only thing that will run this country into the ground quicker than Obama as President would be Ludacris as his vice president. And besides, I thought race wasn’t supposed to be an issue any more so why was it necessary to make a remark about Obama’s skin color. It’s just ridiculous.

Profanity, sex, immorality, etc. is part of everyday life whether we like it or not. A president is to represent all the people of the country regardless of one’s moral standards, religious affiliation (or lack thereof), race, creed, intellect, etc. The fact that Obama listens to Ludacris tells me he a down-to-earth guy who’s more in touch with the common people. Not some religious, wealthy, out of touch, mentally retarded motherfucker like Bush who acts like a King of this country and feels he’s above our constitution. Yes, with Obama I think we do have a bright future ahead of us. If he serves our country well, puts the needs of the people first before big business, and helps to bring peace among nations, then he’ll be a great president. A whole lot better than Grandpa McCain, clone of Bush, will do.

sexual lyrics! oh my!

How can a president like a rapper who curses in his music and says dirty things, is this the kind of presiden’t that we are going to vote for, a president who listens to music with profanity and sexual lyrics, we have a great future ahead of us :(
