Following Nas’ protest outside of Fox’s Manhattan television studios last week, conservative host Bill O’Reilly took a few jabs at the “vile rapper” on his TV show. Responding to Nas‘ accusations that Fox is racist in their news coverage, O’Reilly calls Nas a hypocrite for “peddling the N-word to his audience of children and young adults.” The host also claimed the controversial rapper was only protesting the channel for the sake of publicity because his new album Untitled is “a bomb, a disaster, a catastrophe” (even though it debuted atop the Soundscan charts last week). O’Reilly also took shots at any media outlets that covered Nas’ protest, calling them “corrupt.” As for actually discussing whether or not his channel’s new coverage is racially biased, O’Reilly failed to address the issue.

i thought for sure he would call him Mr. Nas in a condescending manner, but he did that with just Nas. soooo predictable.
matt | 7/28/2008, 10:48 am EST
O’Reilly is so dumb. The entire industry has seen declines in record sales. His album still debuted @ #1. Of course, he failed to mention that. No spin indeed…
Tim | 7/28/2008, 11:13 am EST
It does annoy me that O’Reilly has to pronounce Nas’ name like that- but in his defense:
-Going to #1 is impressive, but when you see a 50% drop in album sales from one album to the next you can’t exactly call that commercially successful.
-There are lots of points and perspectives to be made about the “N” word, but you do have to be very careful calling other people racist when you so blatantly use a word with a historically racist meaning. I can never defend people using the Confederate Flag as “Heritage not Hate”, so I will also not defend Nas or any one else using the “N” word in almost any context.
-If you don’t like Bill O’Reilly, don’t watch. That’s the best way to get him off the air. But I like him- so keep watching. Ha!

listen, this is no stunt dummy. the presidential election only happens every 4 years, with this being the first for a black to run for office. hes showing his support… im surprised more black leaders dont speak their mind publicly. + he dropped a no. 1 record with no label promo.

Dear pot, you’re black. Love, kettle
It’s always nice to hear from a respected music journalist such as Billo Riley.
Swingline | 7/28/2008, 11:58 am EST
“Dear pot, you’re black. Love, kettle”
Classic.
I’d still like to know what he considers a good hip-hop album. There’s got to be some guilty pleasures that he bumps around the house when nobody’s around. My guesses are either “The Humpty Dance” and/or “Rico Suave”.
PrettyOkayScotty | 7/28/2008, 12:17 pm EST
Hey Bill ORiley, how many records did YOU sell this week?
That’s what I thought.
Snoopy | 7/28/2008, 12:49 pm EST
So, Mr. O’Reilly, is Fox racist in their programming?
Bill O’Reilly’s response:……
Anonymous | 7/28/2008, 1:48 pm EST
I don’t know who is worse: Bill O’Reilly or the idiots who constantly give him credibility by whining about him. Ignore him. He’s a court jester- you’re all ignoring the King’s foibles.

bill is right
nas is an idiot and hasnt made a good record since illmatic

Fox bashing, like Bush bashing, is getting way too easy. That’s not to say they don’t have it coming but people have got to move on to the bigger issues. Blaming Fox for all America’s problems, as tempting as it is, is just a waste of time. It’s giving them way too much credit. They don’t deserve the time and they do not hold that much power over the people. The only power they hold is over the red state lunatics that don’t have the brain power to dress themselves, let alone get to the voting booth.
Oh...Nas | 7/28/2008, 2:43 pm EST
I am not a Bill fan, but Nas is a moron. He loves promoting the n-word and then calls someone else a racist. I would look at yourself first and stop making African-Americans angry by using the n-word to sell records.

Naaaaaaaas
John B | 7/28/2008, 3:22 pm EST
It was noticeable indeed that O’Reilly attributed the drop in sales for Nas, compared to his last album, as being due his failure as a recording artist whilst making no mention at all over general slumping sales in the music industry anyway across the board.
However this is the same man who will tell you that poor sales by newspapers like the L.A. and N.Y. times are down to their liberal bias, whilst mentioning nothing of the fact that sales of print media have been slumping all over the world anyway due to the access to the news that most people have how via internet.
Fair and Balanced reporting indeed!

klglz | 7/28/2008, 4:10 pm EST
Nas is dumb and so is Bill. Also the reason most print sales are going down has something to do with the net but more to do with the fact that almost all media out there is left-wing and will most likely keep going down in sales unless they start reporting the news instead of their opinions.
Truth | 7/28/2008, 10:29 pm EST
Nas is nas- among the best rappers still out! [the number being maybe 4] – i do not watch the telee so i couldnt tell ya but i think nas has a reason for this he wouldnt have dont it if not and he does not need publicity if you know anything about hip hop youd know that! boom outta here- oh yeah and its the news – its fucked up no matter what – what do you expect? and oreilly is a super dip shit!
John | 7/29/2008, 2:36 am EST
haha Nas? you mean people still listen to rap music?
D | 7/29/2008, 4:23 am EST
Historically, words used by oppressors to oppress take on a different meaning to the oppressed group once the oppressed group claims the term as their own.
In this way the terms meaning is changed and can become empowering instead of oppressive.
A black person using the N-word towards another black person is not the same as awhite person calling a black person the N-word, period.
Thus, the whole argument that Nas is promoting racism with his usage of it is ridiculous.
Tek Johannsen | 7/29/2008, 12:32 pm EST
He only has a one hot album every 10 year average
bob | 7/29/2008, 1:45 pm EST
Calling anyone the best rapper out there is, well, saying nothing. Its still crap and has been since day one-one word-guitar.
pcim | 7/29/2008, 1:55 pm EST
why does oreilly keep saying nas in a sexy voice, i think he has a crush
Anonymous | 7/29/2008, 7:17 pm EST
Nas is a lyrical genius. Listen to his songs, he is highly intelligent and a brilliant teacher, with no shortage of insightful things to say about this country. O’Reilly is a warmonger who whips the hateful into a frenzy. FOX works in tandem with the Bush administration to provide propaganda. If you watch FOX News, let go of your hate and fear.
Cory | 7/29/2008, 9:37 pm EST
Nas is an idiot.
Jeremy | 7/30/2008, 1:07 pm EST
Bill O’Reilly is a joke.
And so is Fox.
What beats me is how anybody could be so stupid as to watch either of them.
“Terrorist fist jab?”
Brilliant. Who even comes up with that stuff?
stupid "D" | 7/30/2008, 1:27 pm EST
,,,,,,,,yeah, but,,,white people buy more “rap” music,,,,so that kinda throws your argument in the waste can.
Jared | 7/30/2008, 8:16 pm EST
That’s tomorrow and that is it for us today, I’m Bill O’Reilly, and we’ll leave you with Nas and a cut off his new album…
ELLIS | 7/31/2008, 10:43 pm EST
Some of you clowns with your hate comments towards Nas need to look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself when was the last time you stood up for something major, something that inspires thousands of people (musically or political). At least he has the balls to protest outside Fox studios, you guys are just puppets and people like George Bush and McCain are your puppet masters. Oh and O Cryeily is a puppet himself. Snap out of it you friggin zombies !
tim berryman | 8/1/2008, 8:17 pm EST
I agree with the other Tim ^. getting to the number one spot today is nothing. In fact, I thought i was the only one who still bought CDs. As for the Nas thing, I think its stupid. Nas is only upset because Fox didn’t want him to perform last year at Virgina Tech. They didn’t want him to perform because not only did Nas have “violent” content in some of the lyrics in his songs but he also has a weapons conviction. Did Nas even know what happened at VT? And talk about wanting publicity NAS! You gathered 625,000 signatures denouncing the Fox News Network. This whole racist think is a joke. Nas is just being a baby. Tons of people hate Bono(among others) but I dont hear him getting out raged when people talk down on him.
king james | 8/3/2008, 12:28 pm EST
Tell O’Reilly don’t die, he is going to be disappointed when he see Jesus Christ is the same color as Nas.
mr wispers | 8/15/2008, 5:24 pm EST
i am a spoken word artist/poet and i love nas as a rapper, but i disagree with that title. why isnt bill expossed for his faults as everyonelse is? the distance between a blink and a tear drop is the same distance between heartbeats go figure………
Eric W. | 8/19/2008, 10:31 am EST
Popularity and record sales dont measure an opinions validity. Whether im the only person who bought the album or the millionth person who bought it,the content on the album is right on point.”Sly Fox” exactly.
terri | 8/28/2008, 12:59 am EST
who cares what Bill O whatever has to say, he’s an idiot. Nas’ song about Fox news is good!
Eric | 11/26/2008, 3:53 pm EST
I’m with Nas about this whole Fox thing, or should i saw WAS with nas with this whole Fox thing. It is clear that Nas used this protest for promoting his album that was coming out at the time “Untittled”…If Nas was really with this whole movement he would still be out there doing everything he can to stop Fox news, but after his album released, he forgot about the whole movement…so great technique for promotion Nas, but as one of those people who there protesting next to you, i like to say FUCK U!!! cause we are still out there even after your album release. He isn’t about the people, he’s about his album sales, it really sucks cause he use to be my favorite rapper until i saw the fake in him….
muze | 12/5/2008, 7:41 am EST
Okay. Regaurdless of what you think about either of them, look at it for what it is. Nas is a black guy who grew up in the hood where killing and the “N” word are very common. Nas was trying to get a point across with the meaning of the word nigger. Bill O’reilly is older and white and obviously doesnt relate to what nas talks about in his songs so he just sees the vulgarity. Nas wanted to get a point across with his album and Bill O’reilly had a different opinion but towards the end they both just wanted to be right
bony | 2/12/2009, 9:30 am EST
what ever u can say about nas,he’s still tha last real nigga alive thats a fact.he’s way to far than all this fack rappers
