Slayer Consider Retirement As Record Deal Nears End

With nine albums in the tank and a tenth set to be recorded next year, thrash metal forefathers Slayer are considering life after their contract with Rick Rubin expires, says singer/bassist Tom Araya. “Let’s put it this way, this is the final record of our commitment with Rick Rubin. When we first signed a deal with him back in 1986, we never sat down and said, ‘How long do you guys want to keep this together?’” Araya tells Thrash Hits. The band still has another album to record, which they’ll begin after their Unholy Alliance tour ends. After that, the future is unclear. “Once we’ve put together new material, we can get together and discuss our future plans,” Araya said. Retirement is an option, as the band is “maybe” financially secure enough to pack it in. Plus, “Seeing a 50-year-old man headbanging on stage would make me cringe. If I was watching that, I’d think, ‘Dude, you’re a little too old for that, aren’t you? You’re gonna fall off!’”

Hey, these guys deserve a break.
I mean, after having the best time of thier lives while giving us a ride too, they should be able to sit back and enjoy the rest of thier lives.

Reign In Blood is the best metal album ever to be recorded…and if you have never seen Slayer live your a complete douche bag. Everyone has to retire sometime… so you better go see them next time around because they are not the type of band that will have 5 farwell tours.

Seasons in the Abyss is greater than all of the crucial Metallica albums put together.

And I do think those are great records.

“stupid slayer” and “hmmmm” I guess you both probably lothe over the beats of 50 cent or some other rapper who couldn’t play an instrument of any kind to save their life you wouldn’t know real musical talent if it smacked you in the face-which is what you should get for talking about Slayer like that

I’ve listened to slayer for as long as I can remember, and I can’t say that I’d blame them for retiring if they can. The last thing that I’d want to happen to Slayer is for them to end up like Ozzy.

Just because you do not listen to them does not mean the world does not. Slayer were not only pioneers, they continue to influence. Each album continues to amaze and I loath the day I no longer can get the adreno buzz achieved from listening to a new Slayer album.

AJFA>MOP>RIB??!! HAHAHAHAHA joe u r an idiot. How u managed to rank Justice anywhere in the top 100 is beyond me; it’s a piece of over-hyped crap from total sell-outs. As for Slayer retiring, why not? If you could afford to retire at 50 wouldn’t you? And as for Slayer being ‘turds’, exactly what have you managed to accomplish in your life? It probably takes a lot more skill than being in a band for 25+ years to ask if they would like fries with that… Slayer will be forever remembered as one of the greatest metal bands ever.

Are these turds still around? Just how does a band that no one listens to retire?

huh? | 7/23/2008, 3:23 pm EST

hey hmmmmmm,,,,,your kidding, right? You do realize you are talking about,,,,,Slayer?

Joe | 7/23/2008, 2:34 pm EST

….And Justice for All>Master of Puppets>Reign in Blood

hmmm | 7/23/2008, 2:14 pm EST

that is sad, better see them while you can, they will be remembered as one of the greats in music, like them or not
