Metallica Reveal “Death Magnetic” Track List

7/23/08, 12:48 pm EST

After a sheet music website accidentally revealed (and then deleted) the track list for Metallica’s Death Magnetic earlier today, the band confirmed the ten songs that will appear on their Rick Rubin-produced album, due out in September. One title immediately jumps out: “The Unforgiven III,” following the Metallica’s “The Unforgiven” and roughly 11 years after ReLoad’s “The Unforgiven II.” The rest of the song titles are packed with common Metallica-esque themes of nightmares, suicides and the apocalypse. There’s also a song called “The End of the Line,” which shares its title with a Traveling Wilburys song, but we’re assuming it’s not a cover. Despite reports from earlier in the day, there’s no track called “Death Magnetic” included. The album isn’t due out for another two months, so you still have plenty of time to figure out if you want these ten songs delivered to you in a coffin box and sufficiently prepare yourself to play “Broken, Beat & Scarred” on Guitar Hero III. The full track list and proper running order are after the jump.

  1. “That Was Just Your Life”
  2. “The End Of The Line”
  3. “Broken, Beat & Scarred”
  4. “The Day That Never Comes”
  5. “All Nightmare Long”
  6. “Cyanide”
  7. “The Unforgiven III”
  8. “The Judas Kiss”
  9. “Suicide & Redemption”
  10. “My Apocalypse”

EMOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO!

Greg | 7/23/2008, 3:11 pm EST

Uh have you even heard the stuff? Emo it is not.

Emsatt | 7/23/2008, 3:21 pm EST

“The Unforgiven III”? Vagina-riffic album covers? Pack in it guys- you’re trying way too hard these days.

machine | 7/23/2008, 3:22 pm EST

be prepare because this is about get heavy babe!!!

mike b. | 7/23/2008, 3:46 pm EST

am i the only one who doesn’t really get why the tracklists for unreleased albums are news? i mean, knowing the titles of the songs does nothing for me if i don’t know how they sound, or at least what the lyrics are.

Joe | 7/23/2008, 4:34 pm EST

Love you guys. Can you shelve the Unforgiven series now?

H | 7/23/2008, 5:22 pm EST

Guitar Hero, Goodie Coffins for fans, Album Cover, Track List – who gives a fuck! Just let me know when the damn album drops. None of that means crap when I’m jammin in my truck or on my iPod. THE MUSIC IS ALL THAT MATTERS!!!

Gary | 7/23/2008, 5:27 pm EST

All Nightmare Long!!! Get it! Ha! These guys are geniuses. All Night Long? Nope, more like all Nightmare Long! Phew!

I think that might be a single, with the B-side being The I Scream Man.

Arch Stanton | 7/23/2008, 5:48 pm EST

Just title every song ST. Anger II. It will be as bad and poorly written as the latest Puddle Of Mud. Hetfield needs to pick up a 40 oz. and get back where he belongs. Cliff would be so upset….Long Live Cobain….

j | 7/23/2008, 6:09 pm EST

is it trendy to rip on metallica these days? I mean what gives? You have this magazine giving Lil’ Wayne 4 and a half fucking stars for his latest garbage dumping and yet a tried and true band like Metallica gets blasted whenever RS posts something about them. It’s fucking sad the state of affairs in this music world we live in… man.

rocker | 7/23/2008, 6:16 pm EST

dont insult metallica, they are the greatest band to ever walk the earth and always will be, long live metallica

Jager and Heineken | 7/23/2008, 7:23 pm EST

Hetfield needs me.

Metal Man | 7/23/2008, 7:53 pm EST

I think this will be the next era of metallica. The last album was well written but sounded like an amateur band playing in their garage. And no guitar solos, wtf? I was disapointed to say the least but now the counseling sessions are over, all members are focused and sober, and Rob TRujillo has reinvigorated the band. The passion is back. They’re not out to prove anything to anyone but themselves and when you do that you’re bound to have success. They set out to return to basics-return to metal-return to guitar solos-return to classic hetfield vocal stylings. They’re not trying to make another black album (although the Unforgive III may prove that they’re was unfinished business or else they feel that the critics and fans won’t forgive them for the long wait to produce a truly metal album again.) Either way, this seems like a welcome change-no more southern rock, country, or hard rock influences and no covers or garage sounds. THis time around it’s all about the Metal-HEavy tunes, guitar solos, and epic songs-It’s all about the metal. There’s also a changing of the guard as they have ditched longtime producer Bob Rock for Rick Rubin. Metallica never lost it they just got too comfortable and that’s why people lost interest. But now there is a new member (who actually recorded songs for the album-whereas last time trujillo toured behind songs that BOb Rock played bass on) a new producer and a new attitude. THis might be 1991 again only in the sense that people will start embracing them again. Long Live MEtallica!!!

yodlur | 7/23/2008, 9:32 pm EST

Stop already with the what would Cliff say or thing..Damn he would be in his mid 40’s, with kids too probably…daaa…screw emo kids@!

Hit The Lights | 7/23/2008, 9:54 pm EST

What’s with all this music-bashing? Can’t someone love Metallica and Cobain’s music too?! If this new album is half as good as ‘Master Of Puppets’ then it will be worth the wait. I’ve not been fond of anything they’ve done since ‘…And Justice For All’ (yes, that very-much over-rated ‘Black album’). I hope Rick Rubin managed the bring the metal back to Metallica!!! “OOoooooo YeAAAaaa!!!”

Josh | 7/23/2008, 10:38 pm EST

Fuck, I never knew there were so many psychic people around! Much like that fucker over at Maxim who has the uncanny ability to write a review for an album he never heard. Sort of like your negative posts about an album none of you have heard.

Gabriel Clark | 7/24/2008, 3:54 am EST

Ahhh to Blog and be a Jackweed. Be thankful there isn’t a Communist party that would force you to listen to Jessica Simpson.

PRAISE ZILDJAN…

sebastian | 7/24/2008, 4:54 am EST

unforgiven III? so beyond lame.

Pete | 7/24/2008, 7:49 am EST

Metallica has the second-most-devoted group of haters, right after Pearl Jam’s haters. I’ll give this new album its chance when it comes out. Unforgiven III does not bode well, but I have to hear the song before I can judge it fully.

The thing I’m really worried about is that North American tour. They’d better bring out good opening acts this time around. The last 2 times they toured America, we got crap like Godsmack and Limp Bizkit. Europe got Down and The Sword.

Metallica better bring out bands like Mastodon, High On Fire and Baroness on this tour. Newer, REAL heavy metal bands.

Karl Hungus | 7/24/2008, 12:32 pm EST

I was a big time Metallica fan, all the way through Re-Load. There was some heavy stuff on all of the albums. But then they came out with what should have been called Shark Sandwich…..err Shit Sandwich. Death Magnetic only has a chance if Lars left it alone. He has proven over the years to be a toatl idiot. They ought to just dump him and pick up someone who will keep his mouth shut and just play the f—ing drums. Lars sucks. Lars is a total loser. If this album ends up sucking, I will blame it all on Lars.

Coke Jager and Heineken | 7/24/2008, 12:58 pm EST

James, you need us

chris | 7/24/2008, 1:40 pm EST

Whats funny to me is is everyone of the people here who are ripping on metallica will run out and buy the new album when its released. Its just like when load, reload or st anger came out everyone that says its crap owns it.This album is for the people who like metallica if you dont then dont buy it.

Gary | 7/24/2008, 2:11 pm EST

I can assure you I will not buy the album. Too scary.

Russ, Ian | 7/24/2008, 2:46 pm EST

Screw Metallica. Bunch of wusses that need a psychiatrist to write an album and settle their mid-life crisis. Very Rock & Roll.
Listen to real metal like Killswitch Engage, In Flames, Opeth, Lamb of God, and the rest of the metal geniuses.

Arch Stanton | 7/24/2008, 5:43 pm EST

Newstead is laughing at Hetfield and Lars right this moment. Cliff is spinning upstairs. They are just tapped out creatively. I will download for free just so they can whine some more. Just like Pearl Jam they have no relevance anymore. Its quite pathetic actually. Long Live Cobain….

Anonymous | 7/24/2008, 6:45 pm EST

Hey Chris…uh…Load and Re-load both suck…and I dont own either one…asshole…

Canadian Boy | 7/24/2008, 8:14 pm EST

All you doubters please shut-up! Metallica will go down as one of the greatest metal bands ever. Pretty easy for you to slam someone but I don’t hear you making music and selling it to millions of people and playing to sold out shows around the world.

Anonymous | 7/24/2008, 10:00 pm EST

for crying out loud, metallica…no fuck that, any band gets back in the studio and gets back on a new album and the first thing we hear is the whole fuckin lot of you just want to tear it a new one. guess what bitches, when you outsell a band then MAYBE you can talk some shit. and what the hell is this about “screw metallica, long live cobain”? guess what, cobains dead, so go bitch and moan somewhere else. cobain was amazing, but this is rediculous, saying that you basically hate metallica cause you love nirvana? what the shit kind of sense does that make? bottom line, at least respect a band enough to get the album out before you all even try to rip on it. oh and for the douche bag that says lars needs to leave this alone, james and lars were always the writers of the band. the problem writing-wise on st. anger was that everyone wanted to write it, and that just didnt work

mike b. | 7/24/2008, 10:23 pm EST

What’s witheverybody hating on the haters? Ofcourse Metallica is one o the best metal bands of all time, but their last four albums have been absolte crap, even the guys in the band half-aknowledge that. They all said that St. Anger was going to be something amazing, and it was very weak. There’s no reason to expect this album to be any good, and it’s silly to say this will be the album that gets Metallica back on track.

they call me moot minion | 7/25/2008, 12:46 am EST

a message to the “lord of dicks up the ass”, ian russ as u call yourself. although metallica have obviously gone down hill over the years its absolute bullshit that the likes of (and i say this in disgust)killswitch engage are even mentioned in a forum concerning metallica. killswitch are a disgrace to music let alone metal! and you are a discrage to mankind for suggesting theyre anywhere near as good as metallica!

Jim H | 7/25/2008, 1:45 am EST

St Anger was the 2nd chapetr of Metallica and I fully expect Death Magnetic to be a continuation of that but much heavier. Rick Rubin at the helm, he has done wonders in the past.

ref | 7/25/2008, 1:45 pm EST

Honestly, i used to love them, and as a teen i could play just about every one of their songs on guitar up until re-load, i was totally influenced by and loved their earlier stuff. I still respect them for what they’ve done and for the legendary music they wrote from 1983 to 1990 but i just don’t dig any anything after that.

Its hard for me to listen to any band that has been played out as much as they have. I’m not dissing on them but if you like metal, and what it has progressed too these days, then i wouldn’t suggest picking this one up.

h | 7/25/2008, 2:09 pm EST

To all Met-haters you should take note to Ref’s comment. Finally an intelligent and mature review – he doesn’t dig them anymore but also doesn’t bash them.

One thing we know for sure is that Metallica is gonna make whatever the hell THEY want to make. If they wanna play with an orchestra – there gonna do it. If they wanna experiment with different styles and sounds – they’re gonna do it. It takes guts to do something out of your comfort zone knowing that most people will not like it. The easy road was to keep making re-treads of Lightning and Master just to keep fans happy. The hard thing is to try and keep evolving and playing what you feel is right even if you get bashed for it. Death Magnetic sounds like the first album in a long time that seems to cater more to what most fans have been asking for since Justice so you gotta give them credit.

They’ve always done things their way and now they’re doing it your way so don’t judge until you hear it. I predict a blend of styles for the new album – something like Justice and Black album mixed together with a little Garage Days. If you think this album is gonna be a Master re-tread then you’ll probably be disappointed.

Flemming Rasmussen | 7/25/2008, 2:19 pm EST

You guys might recognize me from Kill ‘Em All. I produced the album. Now I just sit around and listen to Shark Sandwich and wonder what the hell these guys were thinking. I talked with Rick Rubin regarding the new album and he assured me that these guys can JAM, but that they were lyrically challenged. He also said that Lars is a total douchebag, and that if it were up to him, he would have dumped this waste of space a long time ago. This album will likely suck, with the exception of maybe one song.

-Flemming

David Sherrard | 7/26/2008, 6:19 pm EST

Actually “Flemming”, you didn’t come on board until Ride the Lightning, which you were the engineer of, not the Producer. You must of been thinking of Puppets or Justice……Toolbox!

Eric | 7/27/2008, 9:38 am EST

I lol’d so hard at Ian calling Killswitch, Opeth and In Flames REAL metal.

metal mercenary | 7/28/2008, 7:04 pm EST

i think that anyone who bashes metallica just doesn’t understand that they have been around since 1983 that’s 25 years and they can still play to a sold out crowd. let’s see any of you keep writing lyrics let alone the music for those lyrics for 25 years things change and in order to continue to be marketable to a newer listening audience they have to try new things

sorin | 8/2/2008, 10:14 am EST

hey assholes, you are all talking about old albums, this the year 2008 its normal to evolve,if they were playied the same shit it youl be fucking bored, when you done the things they ve been through for almost 25 years then critisize, you stupid fucks.have a nice day

girvan | 8/4/2008, 3:40 pm EST

mettalica is the biggest selling metal band ever if that does not tell you something then you dont deserve to listen

D lo | 8/5/2008, 8:36 pm EST

the one thing i notice about this post is that none of u so called metal heads cant type so just stop and that Flemming guy is full of shit you didnt talk to my uncle rick when i talked to him he said this is the most fun he has had since Jay-z so that is saying something. And he told me that james lyrics for this were the best since reload so I assure every one that this will be one hell of a metal album p.s. fuck all you haters get a life you would prob suck kurt’s dick if giving the chance

fade to black | 8/10/2008, 5:18 pm EST

if death magnetic disapoints people then i will give you all my address so you can all take out your frustration on me.but if it doesnt then i will hunt down all you hating fuckers.and did any of you fuckheads know there will be an instrumental on the album

c('.' c) | 8/12/2008, 8:31 pm EST

I’m sure this album is gonna kick ass. Doesn’t matter what everyone says. Just wait and see. Next thing you know, all these assholes saying Killswitch and In Flames are “true metal”, they’re gonna be the first ones in line to buy this album. LONG LIVE METALLICA!!! \m/

Anonymous | 8/14/2008, 5:48 am EST

metallica is f-ing awesome. i just hope that this album lives up to thier previous albums. from waht ive heard it should. hopefully we will see the next “one”.

Anonymous | 8/16/2008, 11:29 am EST

metallica is the best band in the world, there music style are different from band now…rock now like emo is bullshit…

Damn | 8/16/2008, 6:10 pm EST

Damn, go write a book full of clichés, YOU KEEP USING THEM
SAY SOMETHING NEW
i’m not interested anymore in you just saying bad stuff about metallica, and always the same.
DAMN

metallica is a legend man,an i think this album will be much better than st anger…almost a master of pupets….long life metallica!!!!!!!

Gleb | 8/17/2008, 1:23 pm EST

I heard that my apocalypse was written like thank for apocalyptica

J.C. | 8/17/2008, 11:20 pm EST

Unlike the rest of you im not hear to be abusive of each others delicate feelings and carefully crafted english diction. Rather, does anyone know what metallica’s official stance on rodents is? I ask because I have a squirel problem and being a metallica fan I wouldnt want to mis-interpret their lyrics when trying to figure out how to deal with it?

Rick Rubin | 8/19/2008, 7:03 pm EST

Flemming,
No wonder Kill Em All sounds like shit. Death Magnetic is sounding great and once you hear it you will probably kill yourself.By the way KIrk says you have a small “studio”.

MC | 8/21/2008, 6:32 pm EST

Just heard the new single.. They still indeed blow.

DIO | 8/21/2008, 8:41 pm EST

EVIL HATERS ……LOOK OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Will the Drummer | 8/23/2008, 1:40 am EST

I just heard their new single (The Day that Never Comes) and wow, its sounds promising. If Metallica is coming back to classic metal like “Puppets,” “Justice,” and the black album then good for them. St. Anger was not as good as it could have been, but they may have been the fault of the producer (Bob Rock). But this album may be what they need to bounce back from St. Anger. I know that I’m going to buy it as soon as it comes out. They’re still good and I think they still have a lot of potential and a lot o f skill. C’mon guys, they’re METALLICA for Christ’s sake!!!!

Adam Bonello | 8/23/2008, 2:58 am EST

Nothing can beat the black album and thats final. Its tight, unmessy and structured. Then after that ,reload load.Unstructured and all over the place. This alabum???we will wait and see if Rick Rubin has saved these cool guys the same way he made Scars on Broadway big.HMMMMMMM will he do the same for ACDC?always looks like when a band isnt doing to well the recordcompanies bring in Rubin to save the day.

Steven Mathewys | 8/23/2008, 3:29 am EST

Sigh…will Metallica just accept that times have changed, that lars has indeed become a douchebag and that they need to stop while there marginally ahead.
Metallica are my favourite band, and i would have killed to be there in Seatle 1989, but St, Anger cannot be considered music, and load, reload and garage inc were pretty piss poor aswell.

They have had 4, maybe 5 albums which defined and elevated metal to the unstopbable standards it has reached today, and it is these albums they should tour with today, and spread joy and moshing instead of shock and shite snare drums.

Please look to the past Metallica, coz the present hasnt exactly been great!

matt | 8/23/2008, 4:04 am EST

if you dont like it dont buy it.
if you dont like them at all,why are you in here typin shit?
some of you fools with your one line attempts at funnies bore me.
the idiots with caps and one line attempts at..offend me.
get a job idiots!

Smithy Stevenson | 8/23/2008, 9:28 am EST

Jesus Christ all you do-gooders preaching the same moral high ground bull s… about the haters are almost as bad and equally annoying.

Just because one person decides to voice their opinions about someones comment doesnt mean thirty others have to say the exact same thing.

This is the problem with Metallica, hands down the greatest metal band of all time in their prime, but these days far too willing to follow the crowd.

Death Magnetic | 8/23/2008, 11:32 am EST

I think that this album probably will be one of the best albums! :D Better than st anger and load hopefully,

Killatorium666 | 8/23/2008, 11:57 pm EST

St.Anger did suck but load and reload come on they were bad ass and made great drinking music and anyone calling them emooooooo is just trying make them selves feel better for listening to stuff like Killswich,in flames, and hanna fucking montana or what ever the hell u fake ass metal fans are listening to ALL HALE METALLICA

RedAkerston | 8/24/2008, 11:36 am EST

Bob Blows Rocks is out and Rick Rubin is in. This might be album of the year or decade.

Brad | 8/26/2008, 5:47 am EST

Cliff Burton/..And Justice for all Era of Metallica is the best!

But, as Kerry King says “Metallica are a sinking ship” the only hope they have left to stay afloat is deploying the lifeboats.

Anonymous | 8/26/2008, 11:07 am EST

Haha listen to The Day is not the End and My Apocalypse…This is going to be the second best metal album ever after Master of Puppets!

Paul Bearer | 8/26/2008, 2:48 pm EST

I was there in 1985 for Master of Puppets at the Minneapolis Orpheum with the original lineup. I think Metallica has definitely found a new and creative Bass player which I am glad they are giving some creative influence. I started out on Kill Em All back in the day before most even knew who they were. This is a far cry from the old stuff, but music usually evolves with the band and the people therein. Unfortunately, they have not gone in the direction I would have hoped. There will always be a place with me for Metallica as they broke the mold and opened up a whole new world for Metal and Metal fans! That’s as far as it goes for me. I will give the rest of the CD a listen, but I am skeptical. Sounds better than St. Anger (crap). If that’s worth anything at all!
Good luck with a new fan base guys! Your old one has moved on!

BrokenClone | 8/27/2008, 2:44 am EST

Ahh the once mighty Metallica… sorry guys I’m another annoying purist, Metallica died for me when they put out that piece of shit “Black” album. A very Sad but True day for many who thought that the anti-establishment band Metallica would never bow to the corporate side of the music business. This new song sounds like bits and pieces of what they used to be… I have a suggestion, however, for the guys in Metallica: Hey guys, you really want to put out some kick ass new music? How bout you let Dave Mustaine write all your songs, y’know, like Ride The Lightning, Four Horsemen and so forth… also while you’re at it you could attempt to dig up Cliff Burton, there’s more talent in his corpse than there is in the entire new line-up. James, go back to drinking and Lars sew your vagina shut ang go find your dick and Kirk quit being a lazy sack of dried monkey and go have Joe Satriani teach you some new guitar licks… this new song sounds like you stole most of the solo from Blackened and MOP. As for Trujillo, sorry man you’ve jumped about a sinking barge that refuses to accept the decent into rock history. Stink and Annoy!!!!

Dirt | 8/27/2008, 8:07 pm EST

Hey Metallica bashers out there! The 80’s called, and they want back their skin tight jeans and mullets back! Thank god for a band that can evolve instead of putting the same album out every other year. We all know that metal would be nothing now without the 80’s Metallica albums, but open your minds a bit.

Dirt | 8/27/2008, 8:28 pm EST

Oh yeah! I’m sure you fuckers out there think they are “sell-outs”, and Metallica might agree. I’m sure they “sell-out” every venue they perform at!!

metal head!!! | 8/28/2008, 9:01 pm EST

any1 who has even 1 negative word about metallica don’t know shit about metal n even less about music. i can’t think of any other band in any music genre to pump out as many hits as metallica has n i’m sure no1 else can name 1! as been said u get these half wit dumb fuks pumpin out jus pure garbage n every1 blows smoke up their ass tellin em how good they r then u get one of the few GOOD music preformers who have long since paid their dues n established themselves get shit on by every tom dick n ferry.. i mean harry, who cant even jerk off to a beat. So 4 all u ball lickin monkey beaters, runnin ur cock suckers when u produce as many famous, memorable, n truly great songs as metallica has then, AND ONLY THEN will u have EARNED the right 2 talk shit about em! til then.. In the corner wit u.. losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metallica | 8/29/2008, 2:10 am EST

Dave Mustaine needs me more than i need him

Pope John Paul | 8/29/2008, 2:17 am EST

Before i died, i listened to one band that forever changed my life, that band was MetallicA, i’m writing you here from beyond the grave..i’m inpurgatory so i gotta few thousand years to kill..i just wanted to say, i got the guys to hook me up with an early copy of Death Magnetic, and i gotta say, you will be extremely pleased with what you hear..and i wouldn’t lie to you, I was-a da pope.

ONE MAN | 8/29/2008, 9:04 am EST

Metallica’s last full good album was the Black album. After that, Load had like 2 or 3 good songs and Reload had only 1 good song, Unforgiven too. After that, they went kind of off the wall with some crazy ass cover albums and a symphony album that was awful. Then they got us hyped for another studio album, St. Anger, which was the worst album I think I have ever heard. It was a slap to the face for every Metallica fan due to the awful sound and poorly written music. But, I have heard tracks from the new album, which I have heard Metallica has admitted is to make up for the poor album, St. Anger, and it sounds really good. Well written. Reminds me of …And justice for all, actually.

Mortalico | 8/29/2008, 3:24 pm EST

Every1 have a little of reason, but in any sense metallica keep rulin’ the rock…i hope the new album have some of the old school metal, but wahtever it comes will be great.

Anonymous | 8/30/2008, 1:17 am EST

why does everyone compare this with master of pupptes. the best albums are kill em all and ride the lightning! mustaine is a better composer, look at rust in peace. nothing compares to it

matt B | 8/30/2008, 10:59 pm EST

all i know is…..i used to be a wigger when it came to music….then i heard metallica…..now all i listen to is the 80’s….i have 53 metallica songs on my iPod…..they changed my life

dude. this new album dude. will kick your ass dude

Anonymous | 8/31/2008, 5:20 am EST

Have heard the new album, its decent maybe even good… but its not metallica…. its something rally mellowed down…. not metal for sure… don’t buy the album if u’re still thinkin bout albums like kill’em all or lightening and don’t think that you’ll get to hear songs like whiplash or horsemen….

the lyrics might be a little dark but songs certainly don’t sound dark… So for me its safe to assume that gone are the days when metallica shocked the world with their first video for the song ‘One’…

Whatever happens its still fucking METALLICA and they are back… Get ready for some big time alcohollica concerts

Leanne | 8/31/2008, 6:37 pm EST

I don’t see why people always compair Metallica’s new albums to their older ones. Music evolves and so do bands. You can’t expect them to play the same songs for 20 odd years.

fatty | 8/31/2008, 10:40 pm EST

damn haters even if the album bombs(which from what ive heard off it that wont happen) u should buy just so u can say u own a lil more of history.so u can “i bought this bc metallica is one of the greatest mother f*ckin god damn bands ever in the history of metal and mankind.so what if u dont like them anymore show sum damn respect 2 gods and shut the f*ck up.and yes i liked all their albums even st.anger!!

TALLICA WILL KICK YOUR ASS , STANGER WASNT GREAT, BUT FROM WHAT IVE HEARD SO FAR THIS ALBUM WILL BE BETTER, AT LEAST ITS GOT GIUTAR SOLOS, IT SOUNDS A LITTLE MORE LIKE BLACK, AND GARAGE, MAYBE A LITTLE OF THE CLASSICS THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER KILLEMALL, THATS FOR SURE, BUT THERE WILL ALSO NEVER BE A BAND AS KICKASS AS METALLICA THAT LASTS FOR 25 YEARS. I THINK IF YOU DONT LIKE IT SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS AND GO LISTEN TO YOUR GARBAGE THAT IS A POOR FUCKING EXCUSE FOR MUSIC, LIKE RAP OR HIPHOP OR POP , NOBODY KNOWS GOOD REAL MUSIC ANYMORE, AT LEAST METALLICA IS ORIGINAL WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE REAL HARDCORE METALHEADS? THETE IS NOTHING BETTER THSAN THE SOUND OF AN ELECTRIC GIUTAR

Bapslap | 9/3/2008, 2:30 pm EST

I love how Metallica cries a lot. Have you seen “Some Kind of Monster”? I love watching them cry. They should’ve named their new album “Cry Magnetic”, and perhaps their singles would be “The Tears That Never Come” or “Cryanide”…

I bet they also hugged a lot when recording this album.

Blindetah@msn.com | 9/3/2008, 3:46 pm EST

heeey!!! eeven if its not another ride the lightning it is better of than saint anger….
the only thing i dont like is rob trujillo….. u.u

long life metallica!! (except trujillo)

Chrisp | 9/3/2008, 4:00 pm EST

Just thought I’d add my pennies worth.
Yes Metallica are guilty of trying something new & yes since Load I have been sceptical, but have you heard tracks from Load n Reload Live? (If thats a no then you shouldn’t even be commenting here). These Albums rock way harder live, & thats what Metallica are, a Live Band.
These guys been around the block a few times & deserve respect. You ain’t gonna get another Kill Em, Ride, Puppets, Black Album, whatever, They’ve been done. If they did do another sound alike. They’d get slated for it.
Example listen to Doomsday for the deciever, (awesome) then listen to every album Flots released after Newkid left. They suck bad & sound the same.
For any band let alone a metal one, to be the 2nd biggest selling of all time after the Beatles & the 3rd Biggest Touring Act, after Madonna & Prince is an amazing achievement, especially without the airplay they recieved or didn’t as was the case from mainstream radio.
Except this, Magnetic may not live up to what you expected, but you can garantee it will sound amazing live.

dave the breast | 9/3/2008, 8:09 pm EST

Thunderbult | 9/4/2008, 12:18 pm EST

For you that said that you had heard the album. Are you insane? This is more kick ass than everything they’ve done the last 15 years. I would say that a lot of the guitar riffs are comparable with those from Justice, Puppets and the earlier stuff. James sounds a bit different but good……and THE SPEED IS BACK. Thank God! Think these songs will be awesome to hear live.

TMPH | 9/4/2008, 8:06 pm EST

The Day That Never Comes

Best song i’ve heard in quite some time cant wait for the rest.. This Is One Album Im glad to PAY for!

METALLICA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

metalliwho | 9/4/2008, 8:22 pm EST

I used to like Metallica, but then they started being whiney little bitches and tried to push Napster out of existence. They didn’t realize that it was the best thing to happen to music since the guitar. Now what sells is back to whatever some yuppie suit in LA allows the radio stations to play for you.

I’m going to download this album just out of spite, but then delete it because I’m sure it’s no better than the last piece of garbage they put out.

Metallica are done. Their time is gone. They are irrelevant.

Death Magnetic God | 9/4/2008, 9:41 pm EST

I had a listen to the whole Death Magnetic album…..You guys are in for a fucking rollercoaster ride!! Thrash Metal never sounded so good. With all due respect to the almighty Cliff Burton, this one ranks up there with Master of Puppets. Epic. Fucking Epic! The leads from Kirk are sick. James vocals have improved both ways and Trujillo is awesome. So what Lars is a dick. He’s the heartbeat of the band folks and he found his drum kit. Get over it and enjoy the music. Loads and St. Anger are the past. Long live Metallica!!!!

Karl | 9/5/2008, 1:49 am EST

You metallica haters are dumbfucks, i’m sure that even if they realesed ride the lighting or master of puppets now, y’all would say it sucks

warthog | 9/5/2008, 6:32 am EST

Metallica will PEE in your faces , U assholes… They always rock, no matter how much the dogs bark.

Reading Festival 2008 | 9/5/2008, 9:57 am EST

Metallica were AWESOME at Reading this year and their new stuff sounded great!!i have already pre-ordered the new album as the new tracks they played reminded me of why Metallica are my fav band of all time!! All you haters fuck off. you want another master of puppets? then either build a time machine or shut the FUCK up. Cheers.

James Hetfield | 9/5/2008, 10:00 am EST

Our new album sounds good, you should buy it.

Anonymous | 9/5/2008, 5:00 pm EST

i like broken beat n scared.go metallica!whole album is cool as fuk. i think theyre back man!whos singing on ‘death is not the end’?

brow down | 9/5/2008, 5:06 pm EST

look if you have heard the album then you can say what you think of it,it is after all an opinion, but if you havent then stop critizing the shit before it comes out, they have lasted a few years because mr. hetfield and crew have a slight idea of what they are doing

Scott | 9/5/2008, 9:31 pm EST

So far I like the songs that I’ve heard from the new Metallica album and I don’t give a shit what anyone thinks.
What’s with the ‘long live cobain’ bs?
His writing never made any sense and i couldn’t understand what he was singing with the marbles in his mouth. Foo Fighters are way better than Nirvana Ever could be.

Lars Ulrich | 9/5/2008, 10:59 pm EST

Lars here. I’m sure you’ll be able to download the whole album for free from one of those awesome peer-to-peer programs. Go ahead, I don’t mind one bit.

UPS man | 9/6/2008, 1:53 am EST

You slack jawed, shit shovelin’, goofy ass, still stuck in 1988 fucktards !!….LISTEN AND UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING; Every fucking metal band to ever evolve since Metallica started was inspired by Metallica. If you dont like the new album, dont listen to it, period.

Ernesto C. | 9/6/2008, 9:20 am EST

For Lars, kirk, & James. The last “good” Metallica album ive heard was the black album, after that it was Load/ReLoad which started singing parts too early. Then it was St. Anger, which Lars didnt like at all, but it was a breath of fresh air. By me, lots of respect for having the guts to change your style. The new album, from the 3 songs that ive heard, is gonna be better than any album ive heard. Listen to James, BUY IT! Long live Metallica

Joe | 9/6/2008, 1:15 pm EST

I think this album is kick ass so far. I have heard 5 of the songs and have loved them all. I think everyone who is hating this because its “not like Master of Puppets” is a reatard. remember, these guys have grown not only older but in their music. I hated St Anger and was very torn when I heard Death Magnetic was coming out. Now I am stoked and I cannot wait to see them OCT. 21 in PHX. First stop, cannot wait.

tangledinruin@myspace.com | 9/6/2008, 5:39 pm EST

We will forever be metallica fans!!!! We will buy the album and be thankful the snare drum throwoff is in the correct position lol!!!

Darren | 9/6/2008, 5:52 pm EST

well i been a metallica fan for 20 years now , i see alot of trash talk about load and relaod i think there the two best albums they done since justice, and st anger has a few good tunes some people here need to look at the fact metallica been through alot and still going while other pussy bands split up new album heard one song so far and waiting for it to release good job james and lars and kirk and welcome trujillo your way of playing sure reminds me of cliff KEEP THEM ALBUMS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal up Your ASS!!!!!! | 9/6/2008, 10:06 pm EST

Death magnetic is then fucking best album since god damn puppets! Puppets is savage But Death Magnetic is heavy as hell!! From start to finish It will Rip everyone a new ass hole!! VERY Thrash Metal!!!!!!!! Fucking love everything they put out but this by far is the best in a very long time very worth buying! Metallica BABY

Ledzepinkfloydeath | 9/7/2008, 7:57 am EST

cool from what i heard, but master is still their best. they’re coming back to themselves.

SB | 9/7/2008, 2:15 pm EST

so far i’ve heard 2 songs from death magnetic and they’re freakin awesome!
just wanna say that Metallica have always kicked ass, fuck those who think they can criticize the gods and creators of metal!
just wish they could visit us in godforsaken lebanon

Jim | 9/7/2008, 3:56 pm EST

If you don’t like something then don’t listen to it. Why moan on and on and bore everybody. As a man thats followed metallica from the start to present i must say they rock an may they do so for many years to come, each album they produce is pure brilliance. Keep going fellas.

MetaliARCO | 9/8/2008, 6:53 am EST

Haven’t heard a song yet but i’m very glad to read that metallica has made a new (MOP album like) album. Load/re-load i have the albums cause i donot want to miss them in my collection but they’ve had better albums. can’t wait to buy DM in The Netherlands.

But please guys. i love your music but donot copy Mick jagger and the other grandpa’s who stole the ressurection stone from harry potter.

Metallica Domineert wij luisteren.

Cliff Richards | 9/8/2008, 5:00 pm EST

Hi

I think this album is Metallica’s best by far. I’m hoping to cover a track for my Christmas Top of the Pops single

Lars Ulrich | 9/8/2008, 5:03 pm EST

Cliff Richards if you cover any of our music I will kill you

Hafieq | 9/9/2008, 8:13 am EST

The judas kiss has the best riff in this whole album i think. It is kinda justice. Overall,it is better than load, an album that worth buying. This album could be better than black except james vocal in black was better:)

Hafieq | 9/9/2008, 9:05 am EST

the unforgiven 3 is another good song in this album.but what is with that piano in the song beginning??
james could use an acoustic guitar it’ll sound better.hearing this ballad,i’m amaze with james vocal.at some part, his vocal became a bit like the vocal in greenday wake me up song. wow,i think i should buy the original one, i’m just downloadin it(for free)

FUT | 9/9/2008, 2:56 pm EST

it’s their best album since black, maybe even justice… i need a little longer to let it sink in. but yeah…. it rips!!

Scott | 9/9/2008, 6:04 pm EST

This new album ROCKS!! Broken, Beat & Scarred is probably the best song on the album, but Suicide & Redemption, which is ALL music, and NO lyrics, while the music is good, the lack of lyrics kills it. The Unforgiven III is good, but not as good as the original. The rest of the album is good, but those songs that I mentioned stick out for the reasons I mentioned. BTW, I recommend everyone gets their own “Advance Copy” of the album…

ahhhhh suck it | 9/10/2008, 12:01 am EST

Hey you bunch of fuckwit metallica negative wankers show me any band that has lasted as long as metallica and released so many songs etc they are gifted in everyway and kirks playing is fucking awesome. getting the album soon and any dumb fuck that hates metallica us metallica fans will Broke, beat and scar you baby

Steven Hedford | 9/10/2008, 7:30 am EST

Thank you Metallica for getting your shit together and bringing more stadium filling anthems to the table.

Im a huge fan of Metallica and would have lopped of my right nut to be there in Seattle 1989, but anyone who tries to say Load, Reload and St Anger were decent should have both there nuts lopped off, as it wasnt Metallica at all!

Fear not my metal loving bretheren, the gods which are Metallica have returned to their dominating form, with face melting breaks downs and tear bringing melodies.

Death Magnetic is the best thing to happen to the band in a decade,
and lets pray we never see the likes of St. Anger again!

Long live Kill Em All, And Justice For All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets and…Death Magnetic!

Ryan Cornthwaite | 9/10/2008, 9:51 pm EST

Personally, I think from what I’v heard so far. The Album sounds great. Sounds a lot like the Black Album with a mix of faster riffs and hot licks from past albums. But hey, I liked all the stuff they put out. Atleast all they’re stuff doesn’t sound the exact SAME. Like half the fucking bands out there. Some change is good. I own every album and am going to get this one aswell.

Metallica Live On!

Ryan Cornthwaite

Dave | 9/11/2008, 11:24 am EST

I love Metallica. Death Magnetic rules. I have a big doodle.

Dude Magna Dick | 9/11/2008, 12:17 pm EST

I dunno why all these guys keep whining that Met doesn’t sound like it used to. These are the nostalgic, inert suckers who probably would find the clacking of a typewriter good music, since it always sounds the same. I’m glad Metallica are what they are & for all the music they have created. They’ve been showin us what can be done with guitars, a drum set & a throat.FOR 25 YEARS……IF NOT METALLICA THEN WHO ELSE???

metallica is over rated | 9/11/2008, 3:35 pm EST

YAWN!

From what I’ve heard, this is boring crap. If it didn’t have “Metallica” slapped on it, everyone would pass it off as second rate 80’s cheese worship. There’s nothing good about it. They’ve run out of Mustaine riffs.

Ernesto C. | 9/11/2008, 6:28 pm EST

Now That ive heard the album in its entirety, I say this album is classic Metal Up Your A**! This album is classic Metallica, true metal. The top 3 by me are: “Broken, Beat and Scarred”, “All Nightmare Long”, and “My Apocalypse”. The fans are back, and so is Metallica! 11-20-08 at Houston, Tx baby!

Evilpatato | 9/11/2008, 8:23 pm EST

First, let me say that I am not a big Metallica fan, and a huge Megadeth fan. I do not look at the bands by the people who are in the band, I look at em by the music. Megadeth have always been more sophisticated, thrashier, and better (in my opinion)! However, I just downloaded Death Magnetic, and have to say, it pretty damn good…and better than Megadeth’s latest “United Abominations”. This album is really good! However, the drums (as usual) are basic, and kinda suck! Everythang else is rock solid!

detached | 9/11/2008, 10:46 pm EST

by far my favorite album since at least ‘91

Only a second black album! | 9/12/2008, 7:47 am EST

I’m laughing right now. I saw a buch of reports about Metallica supposedly getting back to its sources as Death Magnetic sounds like And Justice or Ride the Lightning or Master… This is not the case at all. The riffs and melodies aren’t complex at all and sounds more like a wanna-be black album 2. Metallica is dead and that’s that. Long live Jason Newsted who fuck them all and joined Voivod.

Dave | 9/12/2008, 9:28 am EST

This latest album is depressing from start to finish, there are some great riffs but there milked for all there worth and Hetfields new style vocals irritate me. They`ve always been my number one, Hetfield was my hero as a kid so to see them churning out really poor work really frustrates me. A complete lack of originality, stop start riffs…its absolute chaos…and not in a good way. The ideas seem to have dried up because we hear very similar riffs to the earlier material…the machine gunner riff from “One” comes to mind or the heavy intro form the “The thing that should not be” from Puppetz. Load and Reload didn`t please a lot of critics but although the lyrics were not as inspiring, I still grew to love em. This new direction is a complete turn off for me…I hope for there sake and the legend that is Metallica that they let things lie.

Anonymous | 9/12/2008, 12:59 pm EST

Fuck the haters! Metallica is one of the best bands ever

surbus | 9/12/2008, 3:42 pm EST

im trying to sound like a hater because metallica rock and they are my heros but the album just isnt great but its strangly addictive i cant stop listening anyone else like this.

CRAP | 9/12/2008, 4:21 pm EST

surely crap again. heard part of one song on the radio and immediatley knew the shit that was entering my head was craptalica. lars is the worlds shittiest drummer, is he using the same shitkit he had pre Ride? GTFOH douche bags, wrap it up!

Randy | 9/12/2008, 4:27 pm EST

Those who post here that crap about long live metallica and go boys, you rock or whatever, WTF. do you think hammett is going to rub his comic book collection on your balls or something. grow up and f off. metallica has been shit for nearly 2 decades.

m a l | 9/13/2008, 12:48 am EST

The Black Album was the beginning of the end of Metallica’s edge. While this is not even close to Metallica’s “big three” this one finally has some interesting guitar-work and song writing not seen since “And Justice for All”. Only a fool would expect them to sound or write like the old Metallica ever again, but this is a good progression from “Justice”. Too bad it took so long to come. This album is neither boring nor broad like the previous four.

clamper | 9/13/2008, 12:57 am EST

Metallica brought the metal, and Rick Rubin brought the welder. I’ve been a fan since the beginning, and yeah, Load, Reload, and St. Anger may not have been there best, but they were all still major events in Rock and Metal music history. Those albums put everything from any other mainstream bands of the time to shame. METALLICA is a band of ALL TIME. I loved Puppets, Justice, and Kill/Ride, but I think Death Magnetic is there most well executed album yet. I’m in shock that METALLICA was able to bring it like this. Death to the haters, and those who say ” I only like the old shit”. METALLICA invented the genre as we know it, they can do whatever they want with it and it’ll be right as far as I’m concerned.

Crank | 9/13/2008, 3:03 am EST

Its meh, only plus is a) its not St Anger and b) Hammett gets to let loose…all in all, I’m going to stick with Formation of Damnation…

yardwad | 9/13/2008, 3:28 am EST

ive been a metallica fan since “84″ when justis came out, my first thought was….”lame, sell outs, and of course, “what the fuck!!!”, after a while it grew on me, HARD! then “POW” out came black. same feelings and emotions about the direction they were going.again it grew on me. with much love.load, reload, st. anger? they had there certin, select songs that were worthy of a jam or 2, but not much more. death magnetic. well , ive listoned 2 it 5 times today.(9-12-08), my thoughts r.i like it so far. but, it sounds like metallica trying 2 b metallica.great thrash riffs and break downs. let hope this is the begining of the ultimit and full return of the all mighty METALLICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

rr | 9/13/2008, 4:08 pm EST

one thing a lot of people seem to do is compare the album to previous metallica work, try listening to the music alone void of these comparisons, its not like puppetz or black or load, its death magnetic, it is distinctive and is a great thrash album and as good as anything released in the past 15 years. they have always distinguished themselves with every CD theyve released

haters have problems | 9/13/2008, 9:05 pm EST

WTF wat are sum of you guys on about metallica rulz always has always will its common knowledge sort it out

Jarhead | 9/14/2008, 2:23 am EST

Metallica is back. DEATH MAGNETIC can be considered as the resurrection of the Pre-LOAD Metallica. All songs have the true Metallica rage that all we Metallica fans craved for so long. When I saw the album cover with the Original Metallica logo, I had a feeling that something good is on its way. Probably wouldn’t have been possible if Bob Rock was still there.

This is an amazing piece of work. St. Anger was a BIG disappointment but DM seems to be the resurrection of Metallica. Broken, Beat & Scarred is by far the best track on the album. Unforgiven III could have been avoided.

Metallica Rulez

BoNd | 9/14/2008, 4:02 pm EST

Good album, Metallica rocks again.

Korpsaw | 9/15/2008, 10:38 am EST

I’ve been a Fan since ‘84. Heard it all a thousand times. Guitar Hero seems to be the motivational wallet here. Sounds good, but I can see 1000’s of musicless youths ‘jamming’ to this on their xboxes thinking they can play just like the big guys. Nope. It’s just a game and this is it’s soundtrack. Unforgiven again? awww..geezus at least try

Cmon it wouldn’t be a friggin comment Metallica section with out some ahole sayin Dave Mustaine rules!! and that AHOLE is ME!! Yep they rule and would be no where at all with out Dave Mustaine-but besides that it would be cool to see them play Gigantour instead of OzzFest or both !! I love Metallica for more than just there music -glad they are back -they will never stop never quit because they are METALLICA!! we all are- did i mention Dave Mustaine rules??? hehee

JOEY | 9/15/2008, 4:27 pm EST

They should have taken the 3 good songs off St Anger and the 4 good songs off of Death Magnetic and actually produced a CD worth buying. Now all that will happen is I will tell everyone I know to illegaly download the good songs and Metallica will continue to make less money. In other words this a horrible CD.

Sky | 9/15/2008, 10:33 pm EST

i dont know what the fuck some of you peoples problems are but this fuckin rules!! i mean its not puppets or lightning but its still metallica and it kicks the fuck out of st. anger, its got that classic metallica sound about it and its great (notice they went back to the classic logo on the cover) and clearly it is not emo for you dumbass fucks that have no concept of metal. this is straight up metal like it should be so fuck you if you think any differantly

Matt | 9/16/2008, 12:29 am EST

DM rules. Every song is worthy of being on this CD. I love it and have played every song on GH 3, which is btw, amazing in itself. Good Job guys. My favorite: That Was Just Your Life

BDS | 9/16/2008, 8:44 am EST

you are the biggest fucking morons ive ever seen. you know nothing of musical concepts but you judge one of the most prosporius bands of all time. stfu no one cares your all losers..this albulms good and metallica could care less if you buy because of the other 10 million people will….game over you lose…they win

Metallica27 | 9/17/2008, 1:40 am EST

anyone dissing metallica is retarded just cuz their the greatest band of all time doesn’t me you gotta get jealous and talk shit GROW THE FUCK UP! i love this cd. even the instrumental is really good and usually i hate instrumentals id say my favorite is probly The Day That Never Comes, then unforgiven III, then Broken Beat & Scarred *To all haters: FUCK OFF!

adamTHEharris | 9/17/2008, 3:49 am EST

Metallica is for little girls? Where have you been the last 25 years? One of the top 10 (easily fits in the top 10) quintessential metal bands of all time is for little girls… Wow… Now whether or not you enjoy it, Metallica is one of the few bands that has given inspiration to legions upon legions of heavy metal fans everywhere. They are the source of many of today’s current metal bands. They’ve achieved more than most bands will dream of achieving… People need to stop comparing the albums to the classic great albums that Metallica has put out over the years, and just accept that it’s a good album and worse metal albums have been made. It may not be “Master Of Puppets”, but it’s still DEFINITELY quite a good (even possibly GREAT) album. Plenty worthy of being put in the extensive discography that Metallica has accumulated.

If you disagree, do some research in to the band’s achievements over the years, and bitch at me then. So you actually can have a normal, intellectual “Big-Boy” discussion. And not just a series of FUCK YOU’s and a slew of other cuss words. Learn to proudly announce your opinion in an intellectual, and justified way… MotherFuckers…

Love Adam…

“Let the whiney-ass bitches come”…

Fug | 9/17/2008, 6:11 pm EST

The CD is killer. The only real down side I can see is the mixing. The digital distortion keeps rearing it’s ugly head throughout the album, but I can live with it.
The band itself are playing as tight as ever. Lars’ playing is actually getting faster as he ages! Great songs, great album, GREAT F-ING BAND. Don’t like it? Go back to listening to My chemical romance and cry yourself to sleep. THE MIGHTY MET HAVE RETURNED!

Random | 9/19/2008, 12:35 am EST

I don’t really like the new singing style hetfeild has, but i like the album, it’s quite good.

For the people that think it’s emo, you guys are mentally challened and should stick with
‘My Chemical Romance’ and not post here?

V | 9/19/2008, 3:12 am EST

It’s much better than the previous album “st-anger” but honestly “load” was better, and even “re-load” which I didn’t even like as much, but it had some good tunes.
In my opinion from “ride the lightning” all the way to “load” they were at their best, especially “master of puppets” and the “black album”, those 2 are the best so far. As for “death magnetic” it is well done but something is not right… Too much anger. The black album is heavy but it has power, and that is much better than anger. Perhaps they’re still getting used to being sober.

V again | 9/19/2008, 4:28 pm EST

On second thought, If this album came out when I was in high school I probably would have loved it. They’re still good.

Tony | 9/20/2008, 4:32 am EST

Justice came ot in “84″? Hmmmm. There will always be haters. I’m 33. when I was in Jr. High I was writing Metallica on my schoolbooks and wearing a Metal Up Your Ass T-shirt. Metallica was the best, is the best and will be the best fucking metal band in the world forever. Some people just like to shit on the wheaties of others.

Negative Mind | 9/20/2008, 9:24 am EST

Shout out to tallica, cant wait for their 10th one. yeahhaiir.

Skin | 9/21/2008, 12:33 pm EST

Hammet still sounds like the novice wanker he was 20 years ago. No actually millions of dollars have made him unmotivated, lazy, and suckier. Any other guitarist could fart out a better solo than Kirk on his best day. He sounds like a tuba player trapped inside a flat-chested two-finger typist. Guitar teachers the world over use him as the example of how not to play. He will always be the flat tire, and a drag on this band.

Sacko | 9/22/2008, 3:16 am EST

to anyone who doesn’t agree… kiss my *** but even before i listened to the songs i’d have to give it to the band for coming up with such amazing SHIT years later! you guys ROCK metallica… come to INDIA!!!! QUICK!

MEYSAM | 9/24/2008, 12:01 pm EST

Some times in the world somethings happen that people will never forget , METALLICA is one of those things !!!! now a days when you say Metallica any where in this fucking world people will think about Music, Hard Rock, and specially Metal and its out of their control ,you know why ??? thats because METALLICA knew what to do to make that assumption …………. Rock On Boys!!!

cwolfe | 9/26/2008, 1:47 am EST

I have been a fan for many years, (20 or so) and for awhile a kinda wondered about the fellas for awhile. The last really great album was Justice but with this one I am happy to say that if this doesnt shove metal up your @$$ than what does. I think that the guys have finally gotten back to what they had back in the day and thats heavy metal, Thanks finally for the bomb @$$ album.

livinfame5 | 9/29/2008, 4:24 pm EST

just listened to DM and had some comments. I am a fan and always will be, but there are some tired riffs in there, rehashing of justice main riffs and “my apocalypse” the phrasing sound a lot like “desperate cry” by sepultura (i dare u to listen to both, i have). generally this does not compare to ajfa or MoP. Kirk needs to understand that playing fast and pressing the wah pedal wiith a bend in here and there is not real music. overall better than the last 3, not as good as the first 3…

Arvind | 9/30/2008, 2:34 am EST

How can any body NOT like this album??

AnGeMiiMa | 9/30/2008, 3:52 pm EST

Rick Rubin……nuff said

ec | 10/1/2008, 12:43 am EST

I like the music, but the mixing is bad. The sound is really distorted, and fatigues the ears. I can tell they were really getting into the old vibe of thrash metal when they recorded the album. Even tho it’s a big step up, they probably will never write a ‘Orion’, or ‘Fade to black’ again, but you just never know…

Marty | 10/1/2008, 11:44 pm EST

An excellent return from what I feel was a dark and fugued time for Metallica. While they haven’t returned to their “roots” with this offering, very few bands ever go back to them. That’s what progress and evolution is all about. And this is certainly forward progress from their previous 3 entries. Music is a bit fuzzed, editing’s a bit ‘broken, beat and scarred’, but overall? Good stuff. I rock out to it. That’s all that matters to me. :) -M.E.3

lab~rat | 10/3/2008, 1:13 pm EST

Ya know, just reading the titles in the track list I can tell this isn’t a “dark” album…

Scourge | 10/5/2008, 8:19 am EST

Someone said: they’ ll probably never write another ‘Orion” or ‘Fade to black’. Well i say they already did one, and it calls Unforgiven III which for me brings back the order and does give a great portion of their old tunes. That’s definetely one of the top10 :-) Have a nice day!!

alfy | 10/7/2008, 2:01 pm EST

I know you guys are sick of the critics but come on, I know all of us wish they could make at least one song that could compete with their old albums. In reality, history can’t repeat itself. I don’t mind a few songs in DM but a lot is distorted and doesn’t sound like GREAT Metallica to me, but its not bad. I know these guys have what it takes to make a great album and I think this is a descent starting point. Just watch, in a few years they will knock us out with some crazy shit. Not putting them down, just sayin we all know they can do better

zaki | 10/10/2008, 12:32 am EST

this album is great! don’t compare it with kill em all or ride the lightning…they make this album suitable for our life today.rock in 2008!

Im sorry. I know every Metallica fan out there including me has been waiting in anguish for Metallica to pump out a worthwile metal album since that god awful fuk mess known as St. Anger. Even load and reload were subpar. But that doesn’t mean we should praise death magnetic just because it sounds more thrash and has a facade of Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets. Honestly, Metallica fucking owns and will always be one of the most legendary metal bands to date and for years to come. But come on, Death Magnetic falls far short of their potential and just seems kind of forced in my opinion. I think they’ve gotten tigther in performance and are definitely recovering from the schoolboy bitch fest that surrounded St. Anger, but they are still no Metallica. I definitely think that they can still put out one more masterpiece, but Death Magnetic just wasn’t it for Metallica. Since St. Anger, the riffs have gotten better, James’ singing has gotten better, hell even Ulrich’s drumming has gotten better; but even if it is “evolved” Metallica it is still not the thrash, metal band that made an entire generation scream and churn blood for metal. We dont need to wack off or get on our knees and suck Metallica’s dick for pumping out some standard metal shit, maybe a pat on the back will do but come on. Ive got faith in them though. Overall decent album. Obama for president fools.

no more | 10/25/2008, 7:56 am EST

it is been the next one tht the rockin band can no more stay alive to come up with thr next album pls
dm has no such thing to make thr album to the chart list instead its just abt making some money

Sears | 11/6/2008, 6:17 am EST

Lots of shit talkers on here. Probobly the same guys that were smashing their Metallica CDs when Lars went after Napster. To me there has never been bad Metallica, just different. New Album is great, nice to hear the old sound with fresh material again. If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it and shut the fuck up.

www.myspace.com/tangledinruin | 11/6/2008, 10:30 am EST

Can we cover one of the new songs? We already cover alot of the older ones.
By the way, the snare drum sounds like classic Lars. Quit knocking James vox, I think his vox sounds good. Did you guys like the Krank amps? I tried Kirks new Randall, that thing will shake your balls!!! We have a KRANK amp in our arsenal.

Mariah | 11/30/2008, 10:18 am EST

well i myself hate metal, death metal, or anything associated with a bunch of stupid yelling mixed with so called “music” BUT ive been listenin to Metallica since ive been born, its my dads favorite band and its what i grew up on. yeah many of you try to compare this album to the old “good” albums. reality check. THIS IS 2008! this album is seriously somethin else, its a good combo of their old stuff mixed in with some new style rock. they’re getting older by every album give em a break if they wana try somethin different. they know who they are and what they do. id love to see you haters try and make half the money they do cause of all the great work they put for so many years. idiots i tell you…

Mongoose | 12/20/2008, 12:47 pm EST

This is my 1st metallica Cd and i fucken love it! metallica RULEZ!!!

Beech | 12/20/2008, 9:54 pm EST

To that skin fella, Kirk is frowned upon as a guitarist by some people because he can’t improvise, everything needs to be played perfectly. It is certainly an important skill to be lacking but it doesn’t mean he’s a bad guitarist. I think he’s one of the greats and has written some incredible solos. One for example^^

Anonymous | 1/21/2009, 3:35 pm EST

DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A BAND SOUNDS THE SAME AS THEY DID WHEN THEY FIRST ARRIVED? PEOPLE GET SICK OF IT. AC/DC HAS BEEN PLAYING THE SAME STYLE OF MUSIC SINCE BON SCOTT WAS REPLACED AND NOW ITS HARD TO LISTEN TO EM. ZZ TOP HAS YET TO CHANGE THEIR SOUND AND THEY CAN’T EVEN CRACK OUT A WORTHY TUNE ANYMORE. CHANGE IS GOOD. I HAVE YET TO HEAR A METALLICA SONG I DON’T LIKE THOUGH I AMFED UP WITH ENTER SANDMAN BEING PLAYED EVERY 20 MIN. I LOVE THE NEW ALBUM. ITS NOT OLD METALLICA ITS NEW METALLICA.

Dean | 4/1/2009, 6:49 pm EST

This new album is a great thing. Metallica is picking up where they left off back in the 80s with the earlier albums. starting with the album load and then on, they ventured away from thrash. this album is up there with master of puppets. just my opinion. and jeff shut up. metallica is not emo.

Bobby | 5/1/2009, 11:25 am EST

Meltallica sucks ballZzzzzzzzzz…..long live cobain

Debi | 5/1/2009, 8:32 pm EST

Hey now, children let’s play nice! I have been listening to Metallica for 26 years. It hurts to even say that. I got the Kill Em All album from a friend of mine on a blank cassette tape (no there was no such things as CD’s then). The first song was Seek & Destroy, I LOVED IT!!!! Did I mention that the tape I got was about 1 month before the release of the album. My friend knew my style and the latest shit that rocked the house. When the album was released I literally burned the tape up. I played it so much that I went through about 4 tapes of that album. METALLICA has ALWAYS ROCKED, I don’t care what anyone says, they became my favorite group 26 years ago and remains my favorite group. My 15 year old daughter loves them now and says it’s her favorite group. Pretty good considering I refused to expose her to metal music and would not play any metal when she was around. The high school kids are now listening to old school Metallica. Yeah their music style hasn’t changed much in all these years, maybe that’s why they are still around and the other bands bit the dust.

space312 | 5/2/2009, 9:15 pm EST

wow, i just finally did listen to this album then read read most of these posts. I have to say, I agree that for awhile now Metallica seems to have been wnadering. That said however, even though I’ve not been crazy about the last couple offerings, especially St. Anger, they were still good enough that I bought them. This one though had me bangin my head again, even in my late 40’s. And for those who dis Kirk, have you even seen some kind of monster? If you had you would know that this is HIS band, and primarily his creativity is what drives them. When they were at their flatest, was when he had allowed to much of the others input have to great an influence on the overall sound. And also, there is this, I think Rob has had a BIG impact on the band, and his ballz in yer face style compliments Kirks perfectly!! Rock on Metallica!!! Lookin 4ward to another 20 years!

m8 | 5/5/2009, 10:59 am EST

No matter what Metallica started just about everything that metal is. The heaviest album I think from the guys. I wish they could sound a little more the like the old thrashers that they used to be.
