So, John Lydon: Will There Be a Public Image Ltd. Reunion?

7/21/08, 5:24 pm EST

There’s been a lot of hubub today about Johnny Rotten’s fight with Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke backstage at a Barcelona festival. So much talk has been devoted to accusations of racism and details of the melee that few are focusing on what began the spat: Okereke supposedly walked up to Lydon and asked him about the possibility of a Public Image Ltd. reunion. Accounts differ on what happened after this, but who cares? It’s a perfectly legitimate inquiry. The Sex Pistols put on a fine show these days, but seeing as they only have one album to draw from the set list is pretty limited. PiL lasted 14 years and eight albums. Jah Wobble and the many, many other PiL alumi certainly have the time to get back onstage — and who wouldn’t want to hear “Rise” live again? So, Johnny, what do you think? Good idea, or are am I in for a brutal beating now?

I’d pay to see Johnny Rotten on stage only if it involved him getting viciously beaten by multiple blunt objects. What a talentless hack…one of the greatest mysteries to me is how he and his cohorts in The Sex Pistols were ever relevant.

Johnny says to Kele: “When you have achieved as much as I have, come back and talk to me”.

Now, wouldn’t that likely take as long for Kele as it did for Johnny? In that case wouldn’t Johnny be dead, or at least really old?

That’s to say nothing of what Mr. Rotten has achieved, which is basically singing the same tuneless vocal over many many different melodies written by talented others.

Johnny “Rotten”, give it up man. You’re only known and respected for an album that came out 30 years ago. No one cares about your pil project so why attack the one fan of that project? Also, you’re not twenty anymore. You’re an old man whose life has past him by. You’re not making new music so why not embrace the fans that you still have? WHat is there to fight against now, johhny. GUess you just have to continue to portray yourself as a “punk rocker” who is antisocial and opposed to authority. At this point, it’s all an act. If you’re not in it for the money, they why reunite the pistols time and time again? Because that’s your bread and butter man. And it’s all about the money for you. Doesn’t that contradict your “punk ethic?” and to think they put you in the rock hall of fame for one album. You lucky bastard. But you’re ungrateful for what you got and for the last fans you have. Give it a rest man. Don’t being a wanker!!!

Wasn’t his biography called “No Blacks No dogs No Irish”?

He might not be the number 1 bloke in the world, but Lydon a racist - I doubt it.

Lydon said that Okereke should grow up and become a real man.

Really John Lydon? You’re the one who immediately brought race into an issue, I think you should grow up senor. You idiot.

Now THAT’S a reunion I would pay to see. I saw them live at X-Fest in 1989 in San Diego and they simply blew away The Sugarcubes and New Order.
