Report: Eminem Working on Fifth Album, Label Says

7/17/08, 1:52 pm EST

Rapper Eminem is officially back in the studio and working on his new album, a label source tells EW.com. Bishop Lamont, another protégé of Eminem and Dr. Dre, said, “Em is excited. He’s been quiet too long, and he’s got a lot to get off his chest.” It’s been four years since Slim Shady released his last studio album, Encore. In the time since, one of Eminem’s closest friends, rapper Proof, was shot and killed, leaving Em emotionally devastated. There were also reports late last year that the 8 Mile star suffered a mild heart attack, thought people close to him said he just had the flu. “He went through what he had to go through, and now he’s been able to take all the pain and stress and put it out in his music,” Lamont added. No release date for the Marshall Mathers’ fifth album has been announced.

Eminem is all class. Difference between him and someone like Lil Wayne is eminem is consistent..He always makes killer tracks he doesnt have to be the hottest thing right now to be the most talked about artist in the game.

Shannagyrl08 | 10/24/2008, 1:59 am EST

I am so excited that he has a new single! The “rappers” out there right now has no sense of what rap is truly about. He is like the Alicia Keys of the Rap world. He can come out w/ a single when eva’ he pleases cuz it’s gonna be the shit. Artist that come out w/ stuff ever year never give the lyrics they sing enough time to sink in or have any depth or meaning. That is why there will never be another rapper like EMINEM!

Mini mc | 10/11/2008, 7:23 am EST

Eminem is the best rapper EVER and i think he always will be and fuck all those out there who say he isnt. Eminem will prove he is the best rapper around when he releases his new album.

Vincent jones | 10/11/2008, 7:14 am EST

I’ve been a fan of Eminem aka Marshall Mathers for as long as i can remember I like his music and I think all his albums and singles that he has made so far are great.I know how Eminem feels because i have lost someone special to but its better to put all of that behind him and move on.I just want to say he is a great man and i hope to hear more music from him in the future as well as now.

Mr.Friday | 9/12/2008, 5:09 pm EST

Lil wayne is definately the best rapper alive. eminem was one of the the best lyricists and story tellers the game has ever seen. he was without a doubt the most impactful. no other rap artist has sold more albums. his ability to tap in to his personal life and connect with his audience in his art was absolutely remarkable and lil wayne, nas, jay-z, andre 3000 and all them would agree with that. they are all great at what they do, and they all do it a little differently. eminem said “i figured this rap shit out, i map shit out strategically, timing is everything and it seems to be the key.” and that is very true. it’s all about timing. the time he came into the game and left the game was perfect. could he do what he did then now? i guess we’ll have to wait and see. i for one am looking forward to it. and fuck solja boy.

All yall clowns soun foolish!!! Who is still lookn 4ward 2 a eminem album. He never waz decent n ma book n half of his fans is prolly white n yall talkn bout wayne wen yall don’t even listen 2 him. All he talked about waz his daughter his mom n his x wife or wateva n dat ish is really corny. I will admit I like his flow n his voice but r we really sayin his lyrics r up there wit waynes. Stop comparin them cuz half yall groupies don’t even listen 2 rap n actually kno who’s da best n da game right now. N wayne needs 2 stop beggn 4 em 2 b on his cd wen he jus recorded a song wit da game dissn em I mean how backwards is dat. But in my opinion wayne is da best n dis industry n yall need 2 listen 2 his underground music instead of da same songs dat com on the radio cuz his best work is in da streets on da mixtapes. So im done wit all yall groupies yall don’t kno wat yall tlkn bout so stop tlkn. Wayne is da best rapper alive n it looks like he’s gonna die dat way ya digg!!!

SMOKE | 7/22/2008, 3:40 pm EST

EMINEM cool finally some real rap to listen too. It’s getting real tired listening to these rappers rap over dance beats and thinking that’s Rap or Hip/Hop. Like Kardinal Official on AKON’s Dangerous Recca.. that’s so POP Kardinal Haha.

Alex | 7/22/2008, 9:22 am EST

Eminem would DESTROY lil wayne. lil wayne is the best right now because he’s the only many standing. Enter: Eminem and it’s over. Lil Wayne will go run and hide + everyone knows lil wayne used ghostwriters for YEARSSS. WEAK!!!

anthony pittarelli | 7/21/2008, 10:49 pm EST

AJ | 7/21/2008, 5:46 pm EST

Oh boo hoo. “He went through what he had to go through, and now he’s been able to take all the pain and stress and put it out in his music,” Lamont added.

Take your millions and go be happy for God’s sake.

He never has to wake up on Monday. What a little brat.

smarterthanyou, you got me. Although, compared to Puff Daddy and Mase being the biggest sellers, Eminem having two years in the 90’s was worth it.

smarterthanyou | 7/20/2008, 7:28 pm EST

Joe, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Eminem ruled the game for most of the 90s??

The Slim Shady LP came out in 98. That means the nineties were almost over.

Ignazio clinton twp michigan | 7/20/2008, 1:08 pm EST

look i like eminem but hes gotta stop whining about kim its ruined his music get back to making fun records .the guys from d12 dont help either, just make an eminem album you know what made you famous i think hes got one more good record in him just have fun marshall good beats good rhymes maybe some dre.

KIM | 7/20/2008, 10:29 am EST

I wonder how many songs there will be about me? His litle punk as will never get over me!!!!

Let's Be Real | 7/18/2008, 10:22 pm EST

How many times have we heard this same news. Not faulting Rolling Stone per say - although your mag should have mentioned the circular nature of this. Eminem’s been ’starting working on 5th album’ for the last 12 months.

Rap, like one of its feeder genres (jazz) is very much a ‘working man’s game’. Meaning, rappers - ones who actually deliver albums rather than promises - are constantly battling, freestyling, trying out new tracks in small venues, appearing on mixtapes, etc. Even the big dudes.

I’m a core fan of the genre and I’m pretty confident when I say: Eminem has been absolutely off the radar for a LONG time now. None of the usual channels that pressage even the most embryonic of ‘album work’ have been buzzing with Eminem news. The dudes voice has been silent in the rap community.

So, I take this most recent ‘album starting’ news with a huge grain of salt. I would not be surprised if dude doesn’t drop again. He was great while he was great, but he’s gone off scene really since 2004.

Slurpy | 7/18/2008, 10:18 pm EST

Lets hope that this CD is better than that regurgitated radio friendly mess that Encore was and that he gets back to the raw emotion that he had for his first 2 albums.
He is so cute; i would eat his do-do.

nessa | 7/18/2008, 8:18 pm EST

good news, i am really looking forward to eminem’s new album.

born beyond | 7/18/2008, 7:27 pm EST

all u people talk as if he’s a veteran or something.. damn.. it seems like yesterday when he became famous with “i’m slim shady”..

anyway, when it comes to lyrical talent in mainstream hip-hop, eminem is second only to nas

Kbenz | 7/18/2008, 2:03 pm EST

Eminem may be washed up, irrelevant, yesterday’s news- but he at least has talent. He can write some badass lyrics and produce his own songs. You know on his 5th LP he wont be rappin about what 90% of rappers put out (bitches hos cars bling cash fo sho) Maybe it’s time for Em to step back in the game, and then you all can attack and criticize him after he’s had the chance to state his claim.

Bopgun | 7/18/2008, 12:03 pm EST

Why does it take 17 rappers to make a record these days - “Bithcin’ Up My Ho’s” - By Lil’ Lawn Spreader, featuring Ice Cream, Lil’ Dawg, Garbage Man, Cabana Boy, Lil’ Ice Tray, OU812, The Ice Pack, Lil’ Dawggy Wee Pad, Tea Bag, Lil’ Mapqwest, Dawgy Sit and Beg, Lawn Man, Weed (featuring Feed), Big Little Big Boi, Eunice Feldstein (AKA Lil’ Mouse Trap), Chiken Liken, Strap n’ Feed Bag, Ho-Ho’s for My Ladezzz, Lil Ice Dog 10-15 in the Penitentary Man……

argh. | 7/18/2008, 9:35 am EST

“now he’s raping his own mother, abusing a whore, snorting coke, and we gave him the Rolling Stone cover?”
You god damn right bitch and now it’s too late, I’m triple platinum and tragedies happened in two states”

He may be a fat washed up rich man now, but god damn, when he was on, he was fucken raw.

jim | 7/18/2008, 1:12 am EST

eminem is back finally and its about fucken time

JD | 7/17/2008, 10:49 pm EST

Isn’t Em just like yesterday’s newspaper? Can you imagine Em rapping 20 years from now or as an old man? I doubt many will care by then.

Joe | 7/17/2008, 8:20 pm EST

Banner, you are right about hip-slop. Lil Wayne did nothing to assuage that belief when he cameo’ed on “We Takin Over”; thankfully, he came out with a pretty darn good solo album. But comparing Eminem’s impact to the genre to Warrant’s in 1993 is just plain shortsighted. Warrant wasn’t good to beging with. Eminem ruled this game for the better part of the 90’s. Whatever he does will be looked at closely. That being said, Encore was a severe dropoff from the Eminem Show.

Sammy | 7/17/2008, 4:31 pm EST

Eminem blows…it’s over

Hip Hop Forev | 7/17/2008, 4:28 pm EST

Banner…Eminem is the man. The world needs some slim Shady. Hopefuly Nelly will release a new album also and we can all rejoice Hip Hop Again.

Banner | 7/17/2008, 4:12 pm EST

Yay…Just in time for the backlash of Hip-Slop. This is comparable to Warrant releasing a record in 1993 up against Nirvana or Pearl Jam. Eminem should stay behind the boards. All these crappy Hip Hop artists should hang it up. It’s overkill already. Talk about beating a dead horse. How much more can you milk it? People need to start burning records again.

Raiden | 7/17/2008, 3:26 pm EST

Eminem is washed up, even Baby aka Birdman is higher up in the food chain, and those Dre beats are all starting to sound the same.

Pskid | 7/17/2008, 3:23 pm EST

SCHWEET!!! Can’t wait. Eminem is the most talented MC in the game.

H. Bomb | 7/17/2008, 2:21 pm EST

Eminem > Lil’ Wayne
