Zack de la Rocha’s One Day As A Lion Unveil First Song

7/16/08, 12:04 pm EST

The first song from One Day As A Lion, the side project of Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de le Rocha, has been posted on the band’s MySpace page. As “Wild International” proves, the years of recording dormancy hasn’t slowed de la Rocha’s flow, as the rapper comes roaring out of the gate and never loses speed. The song sounds like it could’ve been on RATM’s Evil Empire if not for de la Rocha’s keyboards replacing Tom Morello’s guitar wizardry. One Day As A Lion, who get their name from the quote “It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb,” will release their self-titled debut EP on July 22nd.

Audioslave a great band, Rage Against The Machine the best band ever. Just glad i got the chance to see them live whatever the reason for the reunion. Would love to hear something new from the boys they’re needed more now than ever

j: I think Timoteo’s irony and your head are beyond tangent.

In response to Timoteo:

Zack’s rapping and screaming over Audioslave’s music? That already happened. It was called Rage Against The Machine. Moron.

Atleast he's around | 7/24/2008, 12:21 pm EST

It was for a short time there i didnt think we’d see zack again. except for on some where are they now? deal. And at what a better time than now(freudian rage slip haha) guess we’ll have to let the last 6-7 yrs. slide. BUT Atleast he’s here and with a group not some “zack solo deal” he’s always been a band man since his first band “inside out” anyways glad to see hes back in whatever form. As long as he dosent forget about RAGE and touring florida of course. haha. oh and some new rage would be nice.

Timoteo | 7/17/2008, 5:21 pm EST

You know what would sound great: Zack rapping and screamng over Audioslave’s music. It would be such a perfect fit!

Tomas | 7/17/2008, 4:27 pm EST

You’re right arch stanton. Those “liberal hippe morons” are just a bunch of unjustified whiners. Everything is just fuckin peachy, right? Nothing to complain about…

arch stanton | 7/17/2008, 4:19 pm EST

wise points all around. but regardless of Zach’s preaching or stances, the majority of us dont do a damn thing about any of our indecisions. Obama sadly is going to lose and it will provide all these liberal, dirty, hippy morons to complain another 4 or 8 years and the cycle will continue on. in the meantime these young dirty liberal morons will sit in Starbucks on their laptops daddy bought them wishing stuff that will never happen because their to afraid to do anything about it. Zach will still be rich and able to complain all he wants. It provides for more topics to write about. Bottom line….lets hope Rage gets back inaction and blows the Pearl Jam. STP loving dirty hippy morons out of society. Long Live Cobain……

RATM | 7/17/2008, 3:22 pm EST

all you people bashing Zack are retards; because he wanted a solo project doesnt mean Rage sucked, Rage was an amazing band and it was time for Zack to move on and do his own things. And for Tom Morello Audioslave is a good band whoever said that is retarded; Audioslave was a very popular main stream band all over the television and MuchMusic and also Chris Cornell is an awesome lead singer; just cuz he doesnt rap like Zach he has a different style doesnt mean he sucks hes still wicked. And for sanavitis; If uve never heard of Audioslave you must be living in a cave or something; or your just plain dumb

a-jay | 7/17/2008, 2:00 pm EST

Thomas - I agree with you 100%. Seriously, the KKK???

Travis | 7/17/2008, 1:37 pm EST

Hey thomas let me hit you with something so o so smart fuck… Pull your head out of your ass and realize that racism is still alive today and just be cause he talks about the KKK doesn’t mean he isn’t directing it to racism as a whole. Im an Obama supporter as well, but don’t put down Zach cuz he is trying to fight against things that were evident then and now. He doesn’t pick easy targets, he picks targets that personally he sees as a problem in society and what do you mean no one is going to defend the KKK redneck fucks do it all the time and there are plenty of people who won’t vote for Obama simply because he is black. So if i was you i would shut the fuck up. What are you doing to change the world? Nothing. So shut up you fucking moron

thomas | 7/17/2008, 12:15 pm EST

I know, I know..people will take exception but he’s the a lefty Bill O’Reilly. Taking up a cause that is sure to make him look like a crusader. The modern day kissing of babies. Like his lyrics abouty the KKK? Pffft. Since when did the KKK matter??? Yeah, thats a safe topic, who’s going to defend them?? And, its not going to change anything in society. Obama is the real messenger of change (responsibility of ones own actions to change the individual), not Zack’s “ooooo I’m so mad at these easy targets”.

very | 7/17/2008, 12:10 pm EST

Lame…..RATM SUCKS……CHE GUEVARA IS DEAD!!

imsickoftheprimadonnas | 7/17/2008, 12:04 pm EST

RAGE makes me sick these guys don’t practice what they preach, they speak of unity and peace and they can’t get along? pretty soon they’ll be 40 years old and want to do a reunion or something and by then then no one will care.

Arch Stanton | 7/17/2008, 8:56 am EST

Tom Morello is Rage. Zach needs to accept that and put his pride aside and get the band back in tom’s hands. Long Live Cobain….

Timoteo | 7/17/2008, 12:52 am EST

Back in February Billboard reported that ZDLR had completed his solo album and that it would be released this year. So, is the “solo” album his collabos with Reznor, DJ Shadow, & ?uestlove? Or is it this album with Theodore? Sidenote: any band with John Theodore should never be referred to as a “solo” project, this guy’s the best drummer of the decade. Anyway, new song rocks, can’t wait for Tuesday.

sanavitis | 7/16/2008, 8:30 pm EST

zack De La rocha Is RATM,ever heard of Audioslave?

Jeff | 7/16/2008, 7:55 pm EST

Giggles,

Why is the three guys not showing up to a Nightwatchman gig a sure sign they’re playing shows for the money??

Zack has shown up to a few of Tom’s gigs and performed with him. Perhaps they had other things to do those particular nights? There’s a reason why its a ’solo performance’.

H. Bomb | 7/16/2008, 7:48 pm EST

It will be interesting to see how this is performed live. (IF it is)

Will Zack rap from behind the keyboard or will they recruit a 3rd touring member to hold down the keys?

giggles | 7/16/2008, 5:57 pm EST

I was at the Nightwatchman gigs at the Troubadour and its pretty clear by the absence of all the members of RATM that the reunion was about money. I love RATM and its sad for me to see this happen but I can’t really blame them. For the 20-30 shows they played together in the past 18 months or so they have probably made millions of dollars. But the dream of them making a record probably won’t happen. Zack recorded his vocals seperately from the band on The Battle of Los Angeles and Renegades so if they did make a record it would be kind of cut and pasted anyway. Its fucking sad but the new music Zack’s making sounds good and hopefully he tours.

JTheo | 7/16/2008, 5:39 pm EST

don’t forget about the drumming from ex mars volta drummer jon theodore!!!!!

Amanda | 7/16/2008, 5:00 pm EST

Zach is always fearless and inspiring with whatever music he chooses to create. I’m sure this will be brilliant! As much as I love RATM I am sure the music Zach is focusing on now will not disappoint. I am looking forward to July 22nd.

Eric Con Queso | 7/16/2008, 4:29 pm EST

Rather than hear some new Rage, I’d prefer to get my hands on Zach’s solo record that he created with Trent Reznor….that has to be incredible!

AP | 7/16/2008, 4:02 pm EST

Way to not mention Jon Theodore.

what about rage? | 7/16/2008, 3:44 pm EST

Good for Zack but i think i speak for most RATM fans when i say, how about recording the follow up to 2000’s Renegades. Zack de la Rocha and Tom Morello are busy with side projects, then what was the point of the RATM reunion? Let’s hear some new music from RATM man. It’s been too long.
