Scorched Hendrix Guitar Going to Auction, Expecting Million Dollar Bid

A guitar famously lit on fire by Jimi Hendrix while performing onstage in London in 1967 is going to auction. Experts are predicting the guitar may fetch as much as $1 million. Hendrix used the guitar at the London Astoria while he was living in the U.K. on a temporary visa. Looking to make a name for himself, Hendrix lit the Fender Stratocaster on fire, only to burn himself while performing the stunt. Hendrix was taken to the hospital, but not before he told the venue’s roadies to retrieve the guitar. The rest is rock history, as Hendrix would repeat the bonfire of the guitar at future performances. The guitar was initially given to both Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Noel Redding and press officer Tony Garland, who held onto it for 40 years before his nephew put it up in this auction. The Fame Bureau and Idea Generation will conduct the auction on September 4th. Other notable items up for sale include John Bonham’s last-surviving drum-kit, Jim Morrison’s final book of poetry and a “We Are the World” song sheet autographed by BBruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan.

If that punk who founded Ecko were serious about making a statement, he would leave Barry Bonds’ balls alone and buy the Jimi guitar and donate it to the R and R Hall of Fame, sans asterisk.

My only hope is whom ever buys Jimi’s guitar & John’s Drum kit, would at least loan them to the Hall of Fame or mabye the EMP museum in Seattle ,which has had a great Hendrix display, people should be able reflect on these great pieces of our Rock Heritage.

Hendrix’s guitar, Morrison’s poetry book and Bonham’s kit should be donated to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.

Why don’t they just dig up the grave of Jimi Hendrix and put his casket and skeleton up for auction and see how many millions can be made out of that. Such greed. I agree with Jake, that guitar belongs in a museum or Hall of Fame. Not in some fat stinking millionaire’s home.

ANOTHER Jim last notebook? Either people are selling the same one over and over or he had about 20 “last notebooks.” Not counting the ones in my possession, of course. Caveat lector…

Noel Redding is dead, so no, he doesn’t need a million dollars.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hard Rock Cafe buys some of this stuff. It should be in the Hall of Fame, but they refuse to buy anything, they only take donations.

Ok, sell the We Are the World sheet, but John Bonhams kit and the Jimi guitar belong in a museum. Unfortunetly, both will probably wind up in private collections somewhere never to be seen again until they’re auctioned off years from now. Does Noel Redding really need a million bucks?
