Kanye, Wyclef and N.E.R.D. Rumored to Entertain at Parties Around Democratic Convention

7/16/08, 9:01 am EST

A trio of hip-hop artists — Kanye West, Wyclef Jean and N.E.R.D.will perform in Denver when the Democrats gather for their big convention. A native of Barack Obama’s Chicago, West was likely included to keep all those politicians’ egos in check. Let’s just hope Obama’s speech doesn’t run long, otherwise Democrats looking for an afterparty might be in for a long night. Wyclef is becoming as well known for his humanitarian work with Haiti as his music, so his appearance makes sense. The most left-field pick is N.E.R.D., though perhaps Dems can view the band’s single “Everybody Nose” — with its chorus of “All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom” — as a shocking indictment of the current administration’s futile War on Drugs. If Obama’s iPod has a say in who performs in the city, we expect Stevie Wonder and Wilco to be added to the bill any day now. On the celebrity front, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening are all planning on appearing. Both Coors and Anheuser-Busch are sponsoring, so a good time will be had by all.

I think they should’ve gotten Mariah Carey (who is an Obama supporter) to perform.

What happened to this country we just did a complete 180? Nearing30 I think I would have welcomed a President nominee who had a chorus behind him singing “You could get this lap dance for free” at his/her convention, but now I am not sure which camp is more ridiculous. McCain couldn’t get a date from a Golden Girl. Obama I am not sure why anyone likes him, he can reiterate the word “Change” like an autistic parrot. Sucks we have to look a either his or McCain’s ugly face for next year. Wish I lived during the Kennedy Years!

But WTF does this have to do with The Dark Knight?

So Cindy McCain is sponsoring? | 7/16/2008, 4:50 pm EST

It is Anheuser-Busch that her family owns, right?

Andrew - sorry.

I admit, I’ve never really listened to the song that hard. I take it back.

I hereby apologize to N*E*R*D.

Mr Kuntz, just so you’re aware, the song does not glamorize cocaine. Instead, in the song, leadman Pharrell calls to the girls in line for their coke fix to leave the drug and go to a different side of the club “where the AC is blowing” — basically deterring young girls from the dangerous substance. Get your facts straight and educate yourself before you make a statement as bold as “fuck NERD”

Peace

n.e.r.d. are about as clean as it gets.. might as well have straight edge tattoos! ;)

KMAC from GA | 7/16/2008, 12:20 pm EST

The connection is that the “war on drugs” is a lost cause and people are not being educated, therefore people stand in line at the bathroom to get their fix.

Mr Kuntz | 7/16/2008, 11:57 am EST

I’m really not easily offended, but a popular group glamorizing cocaine?? Fuck N*E*R*D.

Cocaine is an asshole drug.

Lo-Lo | 7/16/2008, 10:47 am EST

The song is titled “Everybody Nose”, the “girls are standing in the line for the bathroom” to sniff something up their noses. Cocaine’s a hell of a drug.

? | 7/16/2008, 10:18 am EST

what is the connection between “girls standing in line” and the “war” on drugs?
