The Police Plot Reunion Tour CD/DVD, EBay Auctions

7/15/08, 4:11 pm EST

The Police will release a live CD/DVD set documenting their year-plus reunion tour. Drummer Stewart Copeland says two of the band’s Buenos Aires concerts in early December were recorded for the album. The double-disc set is expected out later this year. A documentary about the reunion tour, titled Better Than Therapy, will also be included on the DVD, with Copeland’s son Jordan the director of the doc. The reformed Police will perform their last concert together August 7th at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. That concert will benefit public television stations in New York. As another tie-in, the band will host a number of eBay auctions featuring VIP ticket packages and autographed memorabilia, all benefitting public television. For more information on the auctions, hit up the eBay site here.

Saw ‘em last night at Shoreline (NorCal/Bay Area) and it reaffirmed what is true for me. In the context of The Police, Sting is amazing. I tried following his solo career, and it just left me feeling flat. The Police however, deserve every ounce of legend that gets heaped on them. Oh how I wish there would be a new record.

Ditto on a new album by the Police…that would be insane

Got to see them in a small club (Madam Wongs) in L.A. years ago.. the club was sweaty I was sweaty the Police were sweaty. If the DVD is anything like that show sweat included I’ll be a happy camper….who said you can’t reheat a souffle !!!!

I love both The Police and Sting…especially the live Sting “Dream of the Blue Turtles” premier concert in Paris. That being said, I have to admit that I’ve seen Sting twice and walked out twice, both about halfway through the set. I saw him on his second solo effort and then last year’s with Annie Lennox as the opener.
The first time, the concert was predictable, Branford Marsailas sounded bored, and the kicker was when Sting was actually recreating moves from his MTV video on stage that night. I was like, “I didn’t pay to see a live video!”
Second time, last year, I walked out because of his bizarre songs…some were erotic and risque and totally unappealing. But, there was a light that night! Annie Lennox! I cannot say enough good things about this incredible singer/performer. She is a rare talent that I was blessed to have witnessed firsthand. She was the total highlight of that concert without a doubt!
Oh, and I might add…The Police came through my hometown when I was growing up and I did not go to see them…I hadn’t been turned on to them at that point. Then, Sting appears on Letterman about a week or so after that same concert. Letterman asked him what was the worst place he (Sting) ever played. Literally and before Letterman could finish the sentence, Sting blurted out the name of my hometown! Arghhhhh! What a reputation to earn, huh?

just saw them in Portland and had front row, they played everything I wanted to hear and sounded pretty good musically but man Sting didn’t really exude a commanding stage presence or charisma that’s for sure.I can think of many other shows I would have rather had front row for but those shows most people could afford whereas I am pretty sure my good fortune was only due to the fact I am a concert junkie/snob and am dumb enough to pay $200+ per seat.

By the way when Sting came to sing “Allison” with Elvis Costello, I had to do a double take because he was dressed like a homeless dude and hadn’t shaved for at least 3 weeks.oooph!!

I am going to see them again tonight. It’ll be the fourth reunion show I’ve been to (man, they’ve gotten alot of my paycheck in the last 18 months). But yeah, even when Sting’s kind of mailing it in with The Police, those two guys force him to rock. He can’t help it. I suppose he’ll be back to making lute records and luxury car commercials in a year, completely lacking in testicular fortitude. Note to Sting, a new Police record would be HUGE! I’d buy it on vinyl and CD. If they did a “pay what you want” Radiohead move, I’d send ‘em full retail.

Saw them at redrocks last night, perhaps the best venue in the country. They were worth every penny. The rocked, they nailed every song with an outstanding concert version, and they left nothing on the table. What more could you ask for?

Why not sell dvd’s of the indiviual shows? I saw the last London gig and filmed some of it with my camera but there was a full camera crew filming for the big screen on stage so there must be a copy of the show somewhere. I WANT TO BUY IT, STING – PLEASE SELL ME THIS DVD!

i think a Police record would be a double edged sword..precisely coz Sting would not be enthused for such a project. However if they did record, jeez i’d buy it! Saw them twice on the reunion tour, i wish i’d had the chance in the early days… “truth hits everybody”!!!

disneyanajones1 | 10/1/2008, 1:24 am EST

saw them in los angeles in 07 at the start, they were loud and amazing, we need more police in our lives and if they disappear once again there is no reason to exist, music is a total loss today, not worth ONE DAMN…NOT ONE DAMN..it SUCKS and it needs THE POLICE the POLICE do not need this world…..

disneyanajones1 | 10/1/2008, 1:31 am EST

FURTHERMORE…we do need each individual show…all 96 or however many there are, each one available on dvd, this MUST BE DONE!!! MORE POLICE..more STEWART COPELAND…more ANDY SUMMERS…individually or as a part of the police, STING..not so much…ahem…

Sting is the only good thing that happened to The Police. Without him they are nothing.
Yes, they rocked on the last concert in New York – Sting does every time.
To Sad to Say:
I’ve seen his concert with Annie Lennox in Madison Square Garden and I want to say – he is great. And Lennox is shady compared to him; I love her work, though.
