Metallica’s “Death Magnetic” Playable on “Guitar Hero III” Same Day of Album Release

7/15/08, 9:00 am EST

Rock Band 2 may have secured a new Guns n’ Roses song, but Guitar Hero III has acquired an entire album: Metallica’s Death Magnetic. Though the band still hasn’t named an exact release date, Metallica announced on their Website that the day their new album comes out in September, “you’ll be able to download every song from the album for Guitar Hero III!” The band also promises that Death Magnetic will be ready to go once Guitar Hero: World Tour hits the streets in the fall as well, allowing fans to drum, sing and thrash along. “We are so psyched that we’ll be the first out of the gate with this simultaneous release…who knows, maybe a few years from now this will be the norm when your favorite band’s new record comes out,” the band said. While Rock Band 2 is trying to draw new gamers across the board with their wide-ranging track list, Guitar Hero has locked up the Metallica bloc — a full-scale Guitar Hero title featuring Metallica songs (in the style of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith) is expected some time next year.

Well I would just like to say…

Megadeth is a great band

Metallica’s Death Magnetic was a good album

That $2,100 update is a bullshit lie

Fan boys need to shut the fuck up, why hate Megadeth/Metallica all because of a fight that James and Dave had when they were both immature fucks. They grew up, and grew out of that fight, so fan boys on both sides please, stop sucking James’/Dave’s dicks and just admit that boths bands are ownage…

And finally…

Im going to buy and then burn every copy of Rock Band: Beatles
Because that was a garbage idea to counter Guitar Hero: Metallica…

I love metallica but it is hard to deny jr’s comments… I think in some way’s they were right on the money.. and I laughed my ass off!

Rofl | 2/17/2009, 9:22 am EST

Blewflett | 1/16/2009, 9:23 am EST

Arf! I can’t believe how seriously some of you are taking this. If you like it, buy it. If you don’t, don’t. If you like Metallica and someone else doesn’t, that’s fine. Personally i think it’s their loss, but who cares? I’ll be buying the Guitar Hero stuff and enjoying it, and not caring what anyone else thinks. Some of you chaps need to grow up a bit.

TimorLeste | 11/5/2008, 5:57 am EST

dizzane | 9/12/2008, 3:48 pm EST

ummmm why are people trying to put down the greatest and most influential metal band of all time (accept for possibly sabbath)? if you don’t like them don’t listen to them or buy their albums, they don’t force it on you. It must just be some sort of coincidence that they are the best selling and most popular band of the 90’s. And alex, come on man, S&M an ugly duckling? its a live compilation of the best songs they’ve written, how is that bad, you are sorta contradicting yourself. but w/e, overall your are right tho.

p.s. for those of you that think this album for guitar hero would cost $2100, you are on fucking crack. i can’t even describe how stupid JR sounds, what are you like 8?

rachael | 7/31/2008, 4:11 pm EST

Words can’t describe how much it pisses me off when I hear comments like JR’s or others completely trashing bands like Metallica or Megadeth- these two bands have written some of the most amazing material I have ever heard, and I would be shocked if any other true metalhead did not list either of them as some of their main influences. Metallica’s Master of Puppets, Megadeth’s Rust in Peace, these are ground-breaking, epic fuckin records and anyone who doesn’t think so then doesn’t know real metal. People who just go around completely bashing artists like Metallica or Megadeth in my eyes are just posers following stupid fucking trends.

Ben | 7/25/2008, 1:59 pm EST

Can’t wait for Death Magnetic, they have the unforgiven III on it too! should be interesting :) and with all the hype James and Lars and the rest of the band are giving it I certainly have faith in them that it will live up to the early years, yet still have a unique and original feel to it.

Can’t wait for the guitar hero packs - pissed off because you can’t play Kirk’s amazing work on a real guitar? (well, he is like Jimi Hendrix afterall). Well that’s what guitar hero is for! playing the songs you love but are very hard.

JWB | 7/25/2008, 9:16 am EST

Im a huge Metallica fan, but JR’s post was FUNNY!!!!

KG | 7/18/2008, 1:51 pm EST

I dont care about any of those previous comments except that Metallica is good music. Dissect them all you want, i just want to listen and play their music. They have accomplished great things over the years whether they were right or wrong in the process. I know i haven’t been duped b/c i consciously bought the music and i still listen to the music and i still cant get those damn solos down on a real guitar and id love to emulate them on plastic instruments in my favorite black shirt b/c its fun and yes…it sure beats an air guitar.

all in all, you can love em or hate em..try to dissect their career in order to justify how they suck..know this they still are one of the best selling rock acts ever and i will continue to be b/c of the MUSIC! who cares is Lars and co. are jerks, if they went a different route in their music. i dont have to deal w/ them. they still sold records and they continue to rock. that is all…

Motor Breath | 7/18/2008, 12:53 pm EST

Ripping money off of fans? You make it sound like they’re MAKING fans buy all of the album accessories. Last I checked you can just buy the CD or the download. What a toolbag.

JR | 7/16/2008, 4:03 pm EST

Hey Diego…First off I never said I liked Megadeath. Metallica should take some of the money they’re ripping off their fans with and donate to their fans to teach them to read.

I think you guys expect too much. Sure, I have given Metallica a lot of my money over the years, but in comparison to how much pleasure they have given me, it doesn’t mean much. I like most of their albums (with St. Anger and S&M being the ugly ducklings), but let’s talk about what everyone considers the epitome of Metallica. Master of Puppets and …And Justice For All gave me such amazing thrills as a teenager, it’s easily worth hundreds of dollars and I paid $15 or so for each. Yeah, Metallica can act lame, but so can every other band except the Radioheads of the world. Just fucking give it a rest. You know you can download the music for free, so either do that or stop bitching. I’m going to shell out $25 bucks for the album (I have complete faith that Rick Rubin turned their music around after St. Anger and feel that it might be worth it) and if I really wanted to play Guitar Hero, I’d buy it too. I don’t, so I can’t say that I care how much it eventually costs. By the way, Megadeth does not come close to Metallica’s artistry, even if Dave Mustaine did write the Four Horsemen (or whatever he contributed to)

jg | 7/15/2008, 8:12 pm EST

You guys take my comments out, but let some of these other guys say insulting things? At least my comments were constructive!

Diego | 7/15/2008, 5:08 pm EST

Hey, JR. I guess that if someday a Guitar Hero: Megadeth comes out you would be the only loser to buy the only copy to get released. But I guess that would represent more money for the band than any album they’ve sold in their career.

Boga888 | 7/15/2008, 4:15 pm EST

It’ll be funny to see a bunch of metalheads, long hair, black shirt and all with small plastic guitars in their hand, head banging in some metallica concert. No more air guitars! Ha ha ha!

benny | 7/15/2008, 3:43 pm EST

LOL @ JR’s comment.

I’m hoping that the full album of “Chinese Democracy” will be available on Rock Band 2.

Jungleland | 7/15/2008, 2:29 pm EST

bands are trying to get on these games so that players will have to buy the tracks for the game (after they steal the mp3s) so I get why they are going for the money grab…but these are toys….buy a real guitar

JR | 7/15/2008, 11:49 am EST

Thanks for convincing me to go out and buy Rock Band instead. I just heard an update for the upcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica version…It’s going to cost $2,100. After the first level you end up stealing Dave Mustaine’s songs and claim that you wrote them. Level 4 you make the Black Album and gain a huge fan base that you will later abandon and try and gouge but we’ll get to that later. Level 5 you do an album with a Symphonic Orchastra. Level 6 your Bass Player leaves you cause realizes what wusses you are. Level 8 you begin your quest to take kids and your fans to court for downloading your music. Level 9 you put out a shit album St Anger. Level 10 you are found in a corner sulking. Level 11 you put out a documentary film that makes your entire band seem extremely lame. The Last level is the best….You charge outrageous prices for an album cause you know you’re only going to sell 10 of them. I can’t wait to get this game! Better start saving now…
