“Rock Band 2″ Track List: New Gn’R Joined By AC/DC, Dylan and 72 More

7/14/08, 3:32 pm EST

Today at the E3 video game convention, Harmonix, the makers of Rock Band 2, revealed the game’s much-anticipated track list. As we reported earlier today, the track list is headlined by the Guns n’ Roses song “Shackler’s Revenge,” but even without the debut of a new Gn’R song, the list of playable tunes is still jaw-dropping. In all, fans of the game will have 75 songs to jam to, spanning the ’60s to today. All walks of rock are represented: there’s Beck, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Sonic Youth, Talking Heads and Linkin Park. For the classic rockers, the Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead and the Who are all represented. And for the ladies to sing along with, there’s songs by Joan Jett, Blondie, Paramore, and Alanis Morissette. Harmonix obviously feels that in order to set itself apart from the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour, it needs to win the battle of the track lists, and they don’t disappoint. As an added bonus, Harmonix and MTV Games — who initially wanted to put 100 songs in the game — will release an additional 20 master recordings for the game for free. Plus, all those songs that came with or you purchased for the original Rock Band can be uploaded to 2. It won’t really tip the scales, but there’s also nine bonus tracks by bands that include Harmonix employees. To check out the entire list of 75 songs, click after the jump. Your move, Guitar Hero.

Great. When is Chinese Democracy coming out?

I find it very puzzling that Mr. Perfectionist – $15+ million on an album – wants his comeback song heard on a video game where half the notes aren’t audible if you don’t play it right!

Oh well, best of luck to him. Can’t wait to hear the song.

And I want my free Diet Wild Cherry Caffeine Free Dr Pepper!

Why not put in Hammerfall or Disturbia? those are great bands with even greater songs.

ChristianH | 9/14/2008, 4:45 pm EST

A lot of crossover between this and GH4, and yet, somehow, the Guitar Hero list got me much, much more excited. Rock Band wouldn’t have the balls to include a Mars Volta track (it’s gonna be hard enough with just guitar!). I don’t know, I still love that Interpol, Silversun Pickups, and Modest Mouse made the list, but if you’re gonna pick a full band Modest Mouse track, why not something cooler like “Trucker’s Atlas” or “Tiny Cities Made of Ashes”. And, to be honest, I HATE Guns and Roses. This just seems like a safe list to me. They could have done so much more. Still holding out that Radiohead will let them use “Paranoid Android” next go round!

kaela | 9/14/2008, 5:03 pm EST

AFI: “Girl’s Not Grey”, maybe?

MooMoo | 9/14/2008, 8:02 pm EST

Xani | 9/20/2008, 6:01 pm EST

Not the worst list i’ve ever seen, but the truth is that GH:WT is going to win this bout. Why? I’m glad you ask… one band… TOOL. It’s monumental that Tool decided to be anywhere but there own CDs, and Rock Band 2 missed the boat. Sorry, but your going down RB2.

just another brick in the wall | 10/26/2008, 2:44 pm EST

list…ehh…not 2 shabby.
but we need more metallica, nirvana, rage, pearl jam, smashing p’s, sublime, foo fighters,u2, and a touch of godsmack.

LOVE STEELY DAN!!! A real nice change of pace for the real musicians who play the game and have alot of fun. I cant wait for the BEATLES. That should make this alot more than a video game.
