Comment of the Week

7/11/08, 4:03 pm EST

Earlier this week, Rock Daily delivered the sad news that due to dramatic sales dips, the multi-disc box set may be going the way of the dodo. But poster Kang is optimistic about the future of career-spanning collections, as he believes an inevitable release may save the format as we know it:

“I am calling it now….Hall and Oates the boxset is going to break industry records and save the boxset.”

Hall…

and

Oates?

Last time I checked the 1980’s were over … and there are legions of Hall and Oates die hards? I’ve GOT to see this! x-P

Hall and Oates are great. I hope this statement isn’t supposed to be ironically humorous, cuz that would be tired.

There’s already a great 2 CD collection out called the Essential Hall and Oates. For most people, that’s all they need.

I hope there is going to be a Bob Seger box set that covers his entire career, including his early stuff with the Bob Seger System.

Box sets were cool for about 5 years. Then they started to scrap the bottom of the barrel. Nirvana box set was a good example of this. The band released 3 studio albums, 1 b-sides album, and a 1 live album. The outtake tracks were not put on the albums for good reasons. They were not like Pearl Jam refusing to put their catchier songs on the albums.

Right now the internet is a box set that keeps on giving. You can pick and choose which obscure tracks you want to purchase with getting 2 or 3 CD’s worth of badly recorded alternate versions of your favorite songs.

Hall and Oates box set, “straight From Philadelphia” a 4-cd is due in late August 2009.

So we will see if the box set revives the format.

The Hall and Oates boxset is now called, “Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall and John Oates” and is now due out on Sept. 29, 2009.

It is supposed to have the hits of course but also outtakes, unreleased songs, live material, etc… There also maybe a DVD of their first concert in London,England back in 1974.
