Metallica Reveal “Death Magnetic” Coffin Box Details

7/10/08, 9:25 am EST

Metallica confirmed the existence of the Death Magnetic special-edition “coffin box” on their official website. The contents of the box pretty much match up with those that a Norwegian music site posted last week: the actual album, an additional disc full of demos, a making-of DVD, an exclusive T-shirt, guitar picks, a flag and a fold-out poster. Plus, the box will come with a “collectors credit card” embossed with a code you can use to download “a special European show happening in September.” Details about the show and the actual release date of Death Magnetic will be announced soon. And as you can guess, the entire package is housed in a box that’s shaped like a coffin. The set won’t be available in stores, so you’ll have to get in virtual line at Mission: Metallica in order to claim the set.

The Coffin Box set was sold out pre-release, and available on the ‘tallica website exclusively. I did hear a rumour that there were to be 2 different box sets released. One for retail, with a sacled down package inside.

Okay. For those haters out there:
Death Magnetic could possibly become the most important metal CD that’s come out this Millennium.

It’s pure brilliance.
The guys took Lady Libery off the Justice album, r**ped her, got her pregnant, pulled out the unborn fetus and buried it alive.
It finally crawled out of the dirt. It’s pissed, it’s looking for blood, and it calls itself ‘Death Magnetic.’

Warning! Listening to this CD MAY cause you to strangle your sister’s puppy.

Metallica is back.

If you think its just to hide any bad songs on the album, trust me, you won’t find any…I’ve listened to all 10 tracks, and I gotta say, they all kick major ass, the worst song on the album gets a B- in my book, thats better than RTL, and how badass is that record

stag | 8/29/2008, 2:48 am EST

im 20 and been listening to metallica since i was a like 5, i have a metallica tattoo on my ribs and would consider myself i “die hard” fan. i for 1, will be trying to get my hands on this coffin box, who cares bout revenue and wat the labels are doing, i rekon its a bit ov cool merchandise, and if u dont want it..DONT BUY IT! simple! stop whining about it on the net, if people actually cared about what u were whinging about, u wouldnt need to spend ur time cmplaining about people who r better than u.

Listen guys if you don’t like Metallica don’t comment. You don’t see me running my mouth about the spice girls reuniting. If you love your backstreet boys and Justin Timberlake so much great for you, but why don’t you leave Metallica alone, wait a second I just figured it out. You all running your mouth hoping Death Magnet sells crap so that you’re right. Well guess what Metallica is in the business to proof you all wrong. I have every Metallica CD, DVD, Poster, Flag hell even a Tattoo As their music help me through the rough times in my life and there are Millions who are just like me. I flew 10000 KM to see them perform so yes I am a hardcore fan and nothing will change that. So my real appeal to every Metallica hater or Slater is SHOOT ME AGAIN I AN’T DEAD YET. As per their lyrics on ST. Anger, The more you shoot at us the stronger Metallica gets. To all my fellow Metallica Fans Lets show these Boys who the real MEN of music are and get Metallica to number one on the charts. Peace out

Luigi | 8/5/2008, 4:46 pm EST

I think this is a cool idea. Yes, it might be expensive but this will attract a lot of people. Metallica Rules!

Dave | 8/3/2008, 8:12 am EST

Aye, and they’re there to make revenue!!!
As a die-hard I will be buying this, if you think it’s too expensive, or just a selfish money making scheme…just buy the standard cd for a quite affordable £8.99…easy!!!

Boss - Poland | 7/28/2008, 7:48 am EST

Isn’t it photo from Chorzów 2 months ago?

Dave | 7/17/2008, 12:16 am EST

i agree that the whole ” coffin box” thing is a scam just to make cash, but lets face it….it’ll work. metallica could put thier album in a dick shaped box with a collectors douche and people would still buy it.

Joe | 7/12/2008, 12:54 pm EST

I mean, how good can they be? They lost a Grammy to Jethro Tull. LOL

locoed | 7/11/2008, 11:35 pm EST

im 40 and still love metallica, since kill em all, always a fan even if they dont sound like kill em all.like the other guy said,”if you dont like it,dont buy it”but you will buy it anyway, just cause you are curious.

nefilim | 7/11/2008, 4:28 am EST

it`s released to hide the bad songs.

Derek Paul | 7/10/2008, 7:57 pm EST

If past experience with Metallica holds true now, God only knows how much those Metallifuckers are going to soak us for the coffin box set! Their box set DVDs are already twice that of any one else! Guess we’ll just have to wait (and save).

from the Misfits boxset

Billy | 7/10/2008, 2:55 pm EST

The coffin box should also have some tombstone shaped gum and skull and cross bones candy and maybe some Metalica action playing cards! That would be neato!

Steve | 7/10/2008, 2:50 pm EST

Maybe when you open it their careers will be inside.

Steve | 7/10/2008, 2:39 pm EST

Maybe when you open it up you’ll see their careers

Swingline | 7/10/2008, 1:48 pm EST

If Metallica wants to attract young listeners, they should tell them to listen to their old albums.
No coffin box is gonna make a 10 year old appreciate “Kill Em All” or “Master”, they have to want to do that for themselves.
The best way to do that would be for them to revive that fantastic 80’s sound of theirs and lead kids back to the old catalog.

Billy | 7/10/2008, 12:52 pm EST

I be 9 years old and I agree with Mike. Theres nothing wrong with Metalica trying to atract the young fans like me. I is the biggest Metalica fan in the whole world and I will be buying this for sure! I think the coffin box will look way cool! :-) Thank you Metalica.

mike | 7/10/2008, 12:25 pm EST

What’s wrong with appealing to young fans? If it doesn’t appeal to you… don’t buy it!

d | 7/10/2008, 11:05 am EST

LOL

depjr | 7/10/2008, 10:43 am EST

MetalliWHO?wheres guns n roses?

morgan | 7/10/2008, 10:24 am EST

Neat…st anger was better than most made it out to be…cant wait for their NEW songs…

Choopy | 7/10/2008, 10:18 am EST

Metallica sure are trying to raise much publicity for the release of their new CD. I mean, is this “coffin box” really necessary? Does anyone really care about guitar picks, the making-of DVD (boring), a flag (wtf?), a fold-out poster (who cares), or a collectors credit card? There was an article here on Rolling Stone just two days ago about the demise and sales slump of box sets. To me it seems this “coffin box” was meant to appeal to young Metallica fans and the very die-hard fans. It’s nothing but a gimmick for the band and record label to make as much revenue as possible.
