I sure hope Lil Wayne isn’t #1 all summer. And I sure hope he doesn’t dominate next years’ grammies. I’m pretty sure he’ll be doing reality shows in five years while Coldplay continues to put out great albums.

Anyone who doesn’t consider Wayne an artist should be considered a fool. If rap isn’t your thing thats fine, but if you’re going to say his work doesn’t deserve artistic merit i suggest you examine his lyrical content, closely, and try and wrap your brain around the truely unique way he puts his words together. I could go on and argue why Tha Carter III is a stronger album than Viva La Vida but I’m sure that would just be a waste of time for not only me, but for those below that refuse to open thier minds to something jsut because it gets heavy play on 106 & Park.

Well seeing how Lil Wayne has been putting out records since he was like 14 since the early 90s while holding a large profile in the south all those years and Coldplay just gained notoriety in this decade I think that is wishful thinking JD.

The media promotes rap to keep people dumb. Most other country’s citizens are well informed and intelligent. The U.S. is filled with dumb people that need dumb music. Im surprised coldplay made it to #1. I figured 36 mafia would have beat them out. They are another fine rap act that just released an album with hits like “slob on my knob” and “stay high.”

Lil Wayne is not a new artist… so it’s funny to see comments about seeing him in five years when he has been putting out music since the late ’90’s…it appears the real newbies to the rap game are the ones commenting HERE! STOP HATING!!!!

I agree that the radio stations keep the rap/hip hop/pop force fed down peoples throats. Where I live their is a radio station 94 rock that plays nothing but Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and all the other rappers. I’m not saying they are not talented, they are not my cup of tea. Frankly I think that they come out with one rap song at the beginning of the year and then just remake it time and time again. Also for those who feel that Lil Wayne is more talented then Coldplay I put this before you, who is more talented live? I notice a grim lack of rap “concerts,” and when you do hear about them you hear they only last 30 minutes top. This compared to a band that can sell out arena’s and keep a fanbase rapt with attention for over two hours with their music. Lil Wayne may sound “hot” on record but what does he sound like live? That’s all. Once again don’t care if people like him or not it’s america and we can shut the radio off if we like, I personally always do when I hear him and that freaking ‘lollipop” song.

My all time hip hop faves Public Enemy put on a tepid,lukewarm show at the height of their powers back in 91 Flavor Flav called San Diego “Sacramento”. Hilarious. They closed the show with a completely lip synced version of “911 is a Joke” with a bunch of kids dancing around on stage. I thought I had died and gone to hip hop hell. it would be nice to think of rap artists drenched in sweat, giving their all in a two hour plus show and leaving the audience gasping for more, but its more the norm to have them run through medleys of their most popular hits.
