Toby Keith’s New Film: “It’s Not All Wagon Wheels and Bales of Hay”

7/7/08, 5:28 pm EST

Toby Keith’s upcoming movie, Beer For My Horses, is a classic good-guy-versus-bad-guy tale set in a dusty Oklahoma town, but don’t expect a dialogue rife with “howdy!” and “yee-haw!”

“It’s not all wagon wheels and bales of hay,” says Keith, who penned the flick that draws its story line from his 2003 hit with Willie Nelson. (Willie snags a cameo in the film, which hits theatres on August 8th.) “We don’t always have to look like Hee-Haw.”

Instead, Keith — who stars as a small-time deputy on a quest to rescue his girlfriend (Claire Forlani) from drug-lord kidnappers — promises loads of ass-kicking action, Ted Nugent in a sleeveless snakeskin shirt (he plays a mute deputy) and even some cultural commentary. “The storyline is about methamphetamine use and how bad it is in the South,” says Keith. “Meth-heads here steal liquid fertilizer that’s kept in agricultural co-ops to make the drug. [In the movie], we stake out the co-ops for a bust, and the story is how that blows up in our faces.”

Check back later this week for more on Beer For My Horses, plus an extended Q&A with Keith, where he riffs on gun-control, the Iraq war, gay marriage and PC ethnic jokes. Meanwhile, click above for a clip from the film.

Toby’s endorsement of Obama erases everything I ever thought about him as a patriot! Obama represents nothing that America’s founding Fathers built this Country on and obviously Toby is using His music to get rich not really believing the words he sings!

THE BIG DOG = BIG TALENT = BIG ENTERTAINMENT! I can never get enough of this man. His work product is always top shelf. I’ve been counting the days for this movie’s release and will definitely see it, then see it again, and again, and again. . .
Love you TK!

its amazing how many people get on this site just to rip a true american. if yall dont like the stand up attitude and love for our country that toby has you should move to russia where you dont have to think for yourself. stand up people and say whats on your mind dont let other people say it for you. thanks to the troops we are free to do that. so if your going to blast people for speaking their mind then go somewhere where youre wanted.

I live in the South. I drive a truck. I own a four wheeler. I like straight Jack Daniels. I believe in the 2nd amendment. Ive attended a megachurch or 2. I dont make a lot of money either, but I think Toby and his whole attitude of “we’ll put a boot in your ass its the American way” is horrible. Its that type of backwoods redneck thinking that has to go away. It will never accomplish anything but creating more hate and distrust in the world and the people who agree with it and call themselves Christians or Patriots give people like me a bad name.

He’s also extremely ugly

Toby Keith is NOT a hero or very much of a patriot! He jumped on the Republican bandwagon when are country was in that post 9/11 conservative funk, nearly ruining the Dixie Chicks career (who actually deserve to called artists) and then as his career slumps has the balls to go on tv and say he is a lifelond democrat. He is a talentless HACK!

tkwarriorny | 7/8/2008, 6:30 pm EST

Toby is the reason I became a Country Music fan even though I live in Westchester NY. He has won many BMI awards for his song writing & his sense of humor is legendary. He was the #1 earner for Country singers last year, according to Forbes. BFMH will be funny, as is intended & will sell plenty DVD’s like his first movie. So to all you naysayers, Toby is here to stay!

Being in Iraq is not patriotic. Our soldiers are not over there to fight for us. Wake up and smell the coffee, FOR REAL!!

NaderApplesquinnie | 7/8/2008, 11:09 am EST

I smell an Oscar nomination for Uncle Tedley.

tk4ever1 | 7/8/2008, 10:48 am EST

From the movie trailer I’ve seen, I cannot wait for this movie. I think B4MH has something that’s been missing from movies recently—an actual story line. Toby can do it all. And the little bits of the soundtrack I’ve heard is unbelievable including songs from Willie Nelson, Ted Nugent, Mel Tillis and Mac Davis, not to mention Toby–something for everyone.

Toby Keith is an arrogant tool.

Props | 7/8/2008, 10:19 am EST

I’m not a country fan. But I have alot of respect for Toby Keith’s consistent dedication to patriotism, he is action, not just words. I’ll see this just because of my curiosity
about Ted Nugent playing a mute deputy. I’ve been in the same room with him several times through out the last 20 years, and would have to give him as Oscar vote if he actually stays mute. That is acting, if it is true.

HUGE TOBY KEITH FAN | 7/8/2008, 10:11 am EST

Toby is an awesome entertainer and an even better actor. I loved his first movie Broken Bridges and I can’t wait to see Beer For My Horses movie either. I love song and the video to beer for my horses. Toby is a very patriotic man and has been for a very long time. He has gone to Iraq more times than any other entertainer has to support and sing for our troops, he loves this country very much and supports our troops and everybody who fights for this country.
Obviously you people have no idea what good music is about. I have been a country music fan since I was little and ever since Toby Keith started singing and performing I have been a huge fan of his. He is a great man and I just wish there were more men like him. I think ya’ll should have your heads examined. FOR REAL!!!

Jesus that looks like a dumb movie.

Toby is an awesome singer and an even better actor. I really loved his first movie Broken Bridges. He is the most patriotic man I have ever seen or know. I love his song and video for Beer for my horses and I can’t wait to see the video.

Toby keith represents NO ONE in the middle class! He, like most country artists, exploit that cross section of america. He is a fool and, like his music, this movie belongs in the garbage. Luckily enough if his acting is as good as his singing it will likely end up there.

miguelguitars | 7/7/2008, 10:59 pm EST

I’m a huge Toby fan, he represents the america most of us live in….hard working, liking a good beer after work, trucks. I’m tired of people making fun of folks like me just because I live in a mobile home and may not make alot of money, folks who vote republican and love this country and especially the men in the military !!

Unleashed [DreamWorks, 2002]
With America lighting up one too many places like the Fourth of July, I went back and tried to hate “Courtesy of the Red White and Blue” like I oughta, but it was still too pithy and heartfelt, and the album still gave up a colloquial aptness and easy masculinity I’d overlooked. But obscured by the uproar is a piece of work as immoral as “One in a Million” or “Black Korea”–no, worse. I can forgive duet partner Willie Nelson almost anything, but I’m appalled that he lent his good name to “Beer for My Horses,” which not only naturalizes lynching but makes it seem like fun on a Friday night. True, the horses the mob rides evoke Hollywood westerns. Right, there is “too much corruption,” though somebody should tell these yokels that “crime in the streets” dropped in the good old days when we had an economy. But the racial coding of the “gangsters” the song sends to their maker needs no explanation. And those “evil forces” who “blow up a building” ain’t bomber pilots, now are they? B/E

Most shocking thing about this story ? Toby Keith isn’t illiterate………
