Norwegian Music Site Possibly Reveals Metallica Box Set Details

7/3/08, 11:17 am EST

Although it hasn’t been announced or confirmed by the band or the record label, the contents of Metallica’s Death Magnetic limited-edition box set may have been revealed by a Norwegian music retailer. According to Platekompaniet, in addition to a physical CD, the box set will also get you a bonus CD of 10 demos, a “Making of Death Magnetic” DVD and an exclusive T-Shirt. There’s also memorabilia like guitar picks, a Death Magnetic flag and a “fold-out, coffin box, poster with pictures of the band members” (We’re not entirely sure what that means either; these specs were translated from Norwegian). Additionally, Metallica may finally embrace your fancy computer by also throwing in a Death Magnetic USB stick. According to the site, the set will cost 929 Euros (just shy of $1,500 American). Additionally, a Finnish Website claims the album’s release date is September 18th, but since we round our release dates to the nearest Tuesday, that would be September 17th in the States.

$1500!! Do they come play at your house too?

Moonshine | 7/3/2008, 12:22 pm EST

LOL @ Gabe. Yeah that $1,500 price tag is such a rip-off.

Jon Harlson | 7/3/2008, 12:45 pm EST

Since that site is in Norway, it is probably in the local currency, Kroner, 929 Norwegian Kroner is about $180 US.

Walmart Records? | 7/3/2008, 1:25 pm EST

$180 makes more sense… but it is still pretty expensive… maybe if it includes about 5 gallons of gas it would be bearable.

Jon Harlson | 7/3/2008, 2:52 pm EST

Also, keep in mind that in Norway, CDs are usually at least $20 US. Compared to $15 in the USA. With the same percentages, that box would cost about $135 in the USA.

Kang | 7/3/2008, 3:42 pm EST

I would rather jab a knife in my ear while taking it in the ass by lars than to pay that much for a shitty metalica cd. I will just download it for free from Kaza, never listen to it, then give it to a crack head to cut up lines on. Fuck you metallica.

notkang | 7/3/2008, 4:01 pm EST

I would rather stick a qtip in my ear while lars gives me a rimjob than to buy a poopy metalica cd. Is that better?

Christian | 7/3/2008, 4:06 pm EST

Gabe: jajajaja

arch stanton | 7/3/2008, 6:07 pm EST

If hetfield starts drinking again i might buy a Metallica album. Long live cobain………

YoYoMa | 7/3/2008, 9:53 pm EST

1992 – “An Evening with Metallica” – Worst concert I ever attended. 40 minute drum solo: Lars, Lars and James, Lars, Lars and Nicko McBrain, Lars…I can’t believe I actually stayed for the whole show. That was the last time I gave these dickheads money. Not even worth my bandwidth to steal it…..

misty | 7/3/2008, 11:37 pm EST

If you don’t like Metallica, then don’t go to the concerts. I think Metallica rocks and always will be. Go listen to your EMO music you babies.

LeDog | 7/4/2008, 5:38 am EST

“IF”

Metallica starts making music like they did back in the 80’s. I’ll check it out…

Jamoid | 7/4/2008, 11:16 am EST

Cmon folks lets just hope it is GOOD or better than St Anger, we would all like to hear them do what they do best.. Break necks..!

(Rim job by Lars? Man only someone who is regularly partaking such activities would even mention it!)

Jordan | 7/4/2008, 12:04 pm EST

Again RS with the “metallica doesn’t get the internet or computers” cutting remarks… DO SOME RESEARCH, again… this is a magazine that gave FUCKING LIL’ WAYNES new album 4 and a half stars, for shame this once great publication…

Dean | 7/4/2008, 2:11 pm EST

May i have your attention please, just two words: Metallica rocks! Thank you!

Craig | 7/4/2008, 3:08 pm EST

Metallica rocked for 2 albums in the 80’s, they have since completely sucked. On top of cranking out one craptastic CD after another for 15 years, their drummer is the biggest duechbag on the planet. I will illegally download this off the internet just to spite them and play Frisbee golf with the CD.

Tk | 7/4/2008, 3:25 pm EST

The problem with a boxset from this band costing that much would be that their only fans left could never afford it on what they make in the kitchen at Waffle House. Instead of giving away a coffin with years of terrible music, they should instead put their careers in it and bury it.

Rick | 7/4/2008, 4:20 pm EST

metallica giving away a jump drive is like rkelly giving away a jar of pee with his boxset. Give me a fucking break, metallica is a joke. Metallica sucks.

Your Father | 7/4/2008, 5:50 pm EST

So, uh, Craig, if you play Frisbee Golf with the CD, I guess that means you’ll have bought it first….

metahz | 7/4/2008, 10:15 pm EST

its not 1500. its 900 something kroner, not euros.

Kelly | 7/4/2008, 11:53 pm EST

Saying that Metallica “Gets” the internet is like saying my Mom “Gets” Facebook. I hate Metallica, I would rather buy a fucking Heavy D boxset than to give these washed up assholes any of my money. Long live Shawn Fanning!!!

Sintro | 7/5/2008, 1:53 am EST

Is anyone going to actually pay for this? I’m a fan and I’m not paying for this. That’s what the internet is for. I’m wondering who will have the better comeback, Metallica or Guns ‘N Roses.

unsearching | 7/5/2008, 5:52 pm EST

GNR will have the better come back. No contest.

Your Papa | 7/5/2008, 6:58 pm EST

God forbid Lars express his opinion about internet file sharing. Look, folks, gain a little perspective on this. Don’t hate Metallica because of their stance on that issue. Either choose to listen to them or not based on their music. Im looking forward to this, but I am MUCH more looking forward to Chinese Democracy whenever it comes out.

tom | 7/5/2008, 8:23 pm EST

If Metallica would have broken up right after the black album, they could be reuniting right now and would be the biggest band on the planet.

But instead, they put out one god awful Cd after another, each one getting worse than the last. Then their drummer decides that he is not rich enough, and wants even more tight white tennis shorts, so naturally he starts to very publicly sue the shit out of his fans.
This is why all the fans of Masters of Puppets and Ride the Lighting hate you, and because of this rep online, no newer generations will ever embrace them. Who’s Metallica, OH yea, they are those old pricks that sue their fans for file sharing their shitty music. Fuck them.

Bop Gun | 7/6/2008, 1:35 am EST

METALLICAAAAAAAAA !! I’m surprised they didn’t name themselves Heavy Mentalzzz. Ole Lars was a teen tennis champ in Denmark, lol, SO metal ! He saw metal as a cynical career upgrade. And is there any form of music stupider than heavy metal ? Yeah, I don’t think so either. I guess someone has to entertain 17 year old boys with mullets in America. It still kills me Dexter Gordon is Lars’ godfather, Dexter must be rolling over in his grave reaching for a bottle to soothe the embarrassment. And remember when these knuckleheads came on the scene and were seen as “real guys” without pretension ? Seems like a LONG time ago doesn’t it ? Lars married a doctor and collects priceless paintings, they go to mother grabbing GROUP band analysis, sheeesh. Nothing dumber than heavy metal…………nothing.

BMac | 7/6/2008, 6:17 pm EST

Dear Bop Gun,

What do you listen to? There’s few genres that can boast such great staying power and loyal fan base. Calling out Metallica just ain’t right, especially with the amount of people they’ve reached and the amount of records they’ve sold. You can probably also count on one hand the number of bands in all of music, not just heavy metal, that have been together as long as Metallica has. They’ve made it through hair metal, grunge, all of this pop rock, pop punk, indie rock, jam rock, emo bullshit and are still going strong even though they’ve had a few missteps music wise, at least in the eyes of critics and fans alike. No one’s going to give a shit about all of these trendy bands like My Morning Jacket, Panic at the Disco(!), and all these fucking bands with stupid names like Metro Station and Gym Class Heroes in the next few years. Metallica’s going to go down as one of the greatest bands in the history of music.

JZ | 7/7/2008, 2:58 am EST

Gee, living in the past, are we?

nawaf | 7/7/2008, 4:05 am EST

metallica box set
with a price like that
i think they need to do another dvd to find a cure for greed

Anonymous | 7/7/2008, 6:39 am EST

sounds awesome. ill make sure to rip any new stuff off a torrent from piratebay

mmw | 7/7/2008, 1:28 pm EST

dont ever bash my morning jacket again. they have been doing it for 10 years now. There is a reason kirk hammet cameoed with them.

True Metal | 7/7/2008, 1:53 pm EST

Not liking Metallica doesn’t mean you are a non metal fan…if anything you are more of one. Slayer’s albums still shred, so take that! Metallica blows. They are the Michael Bay of metal. Slayer are the Kubricks.

Hopefullica | 7/7/2008, 3:31 pm EST

Yep. I saw Metallica play last month at Spain’s Electric Festival. They didn’t play one song AFTER the Black Album! They MADE the concert! All the classics were played and not one new shitty one. Fucking great night. There may be hope yet…

Pergy | 7/7/2008, 5:07 pm EST

If you have heard the new GNR leaked tracks on youtube, then you will understand that Chinese Democracy will blow Metallica’s album away…at least Axl and GNR are reinventing themselves in todays music, Metallica has tried over the course of these newer albums but have failed miserably. Chinese Democracy will have more quality songs on the album than anything Metallica has done total since the black album

Anonymous | 7/7/2008, 5:58 pm EST

chinese democracy!? RTFLOL. axl pose is a joke.
